46 What I find remarkable about works like this one is that the artist had to just make it up. You can see waves everyday if you're near the sea and you can make a study of ships and practice painting both waves and ships, but the artist is going to have to fly solo to make something like this. There aren't pictures of shipwrecks in progress and you can't ask the sea and ship to take a break and hold position while you paint it.

Do people who render shipwreck scenes have prior bodies of work in maritime subjects?

58 What a really dramatic work! You have the massive, jagged rocks and the huge, breaking waves. The storm clouds in the background mimic the powerful forms of the rocks and waves. The best part, for me, is how as the eye goes from foreground to background, the work moves from calm to violent, and the lighting goes from sunlit to dark. You don't usually see the wreak happening. Many works just depict the tragic aftermath.

78 A wonderful depiction of the power of the ocean. The maelstrom of the water, ever changing and moving, contrasts with the solidity of the rocks and mountain in the background. I like the way he captured the subtle shades of greens and whites in the breakers. Also, the web of the ruined sails that remain as the ship is torn apart.

If there is a statement being made, beyond the scene, it is the courage of those who go to see pitting frail vessels of wood against the power of water and rock. It's a hugely effective painting.

Not so fast.
I love the beach when it's storming out. My favorite beach, Rialto, out on the coast is rocky and stormy. There are huge beach logs that get tossed around like toothpicks. The mountains don't end at the shoreline, they challenge the surf and venture out into the waves and are beaten mercilessly. The BEST time to go to Rialto is in the spring when it's stormy. If you're stupid, and don't read the tide charts and listen to the maritime weather reports, you WILL get in trouble.

112 104 When out on the ocean in a 30 foot craft, and the rollers alternately allow you to see the mountains in the distance, then you are surrounded by walls of water, you know you are a helpless ant ready to be smote at it's whim. I have seen or read a theory somewhere to the effect that the legendary Trojan Horse may well have been a metaphor for an earthquake that damaged the city's defenses enough to let in the Greek army. Supposedly there's some archeological evidence to back this up. Dunno if it's true, but I like it anyway.

We were near Green Bay, in Door County, on a high overlook looking out at Lake Michigan, as a huge stormfront was approaching us across the water. Although it was still sunny where we were standing, I remember being able to count 7 different waterspouts on the stormfront as it approached us. Well we didn't stand there gawking at it for much longer.

267 I remember watching a video of the moon landing broadcast. Walter Cronkite had surprise guest LBJ, and this spoiled the moment for me.

Johnson reminded the audience that the return journey would be very dangerous, and to not celebrate just yet. This was sour and wrong of course ... they were the first to walk on the moon, and would be remembered by history whether or not they returned.

The democrat party is allergic to success and glory, and particularly American victory. Moreso now than 1969. It is painful for them to watch.

There is a quick scene in Interstellar where the daughter's teacher says that the moon landing was a CIA op to humiliate the USSR. The audience assumes correctly that this is national curriculum. I'm sure it came across as kafkaesque to LIVs. But look at the garbage they have been teaching.

Yeah -- just before Christmas! The late '80s or the '90s? He slammed into the Riverwalk mall, or I should say the walkway outside it on the river. Nobody was hurt, I think. The odd thing was that I'd been considering going down to the Riverwalk to do some Xmas shopping that day.

But I ran into him by chance several years ago while in town, and he's now a big time righty MAGA guy and a fireman. We hit it off and still stay in touch. His social media is a hoot. He'd fit in perfectly here. So, ya never know.

I didn't mind the people I went to HS with because I had little to do with them. I don't seek to stay in touch with anyone from my past because I never left them with any reason for them to remember me kindly. It would be, at best, an embarrassment for them and humiliating for me.

Dolley talks about going to a reunion to show me off and how she's kept her figure. It's in no small part because her high school boyfriend cheated on her and married a girl who ballooned a bit.

But the town is tiny and the high school graduating class was about 15 people, almost all of whom still live right there.

She probably needs a musk in her life as much as he needs a grimes. I actually do hope they work it out for them and their kids someday.
