Friday was Junior's karate graduation (he's now a green belt), and I saw an adult student's face for the first time. He's apparently a doctor and chose this week to finally take off the mask.
I went to church and there's a family I have some familiarity with (Junior and one of their boys were at the same pre-school for a couple of years), and they are all still in masks. Even the little kids. The mother works in the hospital system but not in any sort of medical capacity. She's an administrator.

Japanese Army Arisaka 6.5mm rifles in the first decade of the 1900s were 50 inches long, without bayonet. I expect the Japanese bayonets of that period had a blade about 12 inches long. So, 62 inches overall length, a bit over 5 feet, for the weapon.

When the bayonet charge is still one of your basic assault tactics, having your rifle double as a spear is a feature not a bug.
Most military rifles were looong in that period for the "spear" reason. The basic infantry rifle for the Germans in WW2 was the Mauser 98K, K for Karbiner (carbine), a shortened version of the Mauser 98 rifle used in WW1.

I have a boat dock neighbor who is a doctor. In 2020 in April/May peak hysteric time, as we said hi for the first time of the season, I said I can put one on around you if you want. I was polite that way, figure he is a doctor he must be ultra cautious and shit. And he was like nah fuck that noise man. Masks dont do shit for this.
But funnily enough while doctors I know had that attitude, nurses were the exact opposite. Would not go anywhere without double masking or wearing those visor things. Always found that really interesting.

Years ago I was on a left leaning, but not political board.
Someone decided to have fun by taking a map that showed who voted R vs D per state and putting it on top of a fat map. Haha those Republican voters in the southern states are fat!
Then someone else broke it down by county and supplied the racial makeup of the counties. And it turns out the fat southerners were mostly in minority districts that voted D. Which was racist apparently to notice, and no longer at all funny.
Since covid kills overweight people, and people with lower vitamin D levels, I'm guessing there is the same pattern here with a place like Mississippi.

But as soon as you get a bit away from that Zillow is useless. Like my house is 100 years old in a hood of 100 year old houses. Every house is unique. Some have a new roof, some have a 20 year old roof that needs replacing and will cost $30k. Some have $100k of recent renovation some have a kitchen and bathrooms from 1991.
Zillow has no clue about any of this and so their value is make believe.

Mississippi and Alabama are #'s 1 and 3 because of the very high incidence of morbid obesity among the African American populations there, combined and linked with a high incidence of diabetes, which is a powerful co-factor in many deaths. Diesels work off dumping fuel in mass quantity. The only way to shut off a diesel engine is kill the fuel supply (or air) since there's no spark. It sill amazes me that diesel vehicles don't come with an emergency fuel pump cutoff switch in the cab.

When I saw the video clip of Will Smith/Chris Rock, what I saw was a man who grew balls and went to defend his wife.
The Hollywood Elite (and not so elite - Chris Rock) are nothing but narcissistic, self important, shallow individuals who take every opportunity to push their world view on the rest of us, and tearing down everything that is counter to it. They have been pushing the boundaries of not only what is acceptable, but what is unacceptable, profane and obscene because they can. And this ends up in our society and culture.
I watched Will Smith stand up and say "Enough!". Did it have to get physical? It takes a few broken eggs to make an omelet.
