Unintended Consequences, a Morning Rant
[Dave in Fla, Guest Monkey]

Monkey.png

He is led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention.

- Adam Smith

Rich Baris is polling nationally again and has released a March poll. You've all heard me talk about his results ad nauseum, so I won't get into the typical discussion about how Biden's approval is in the tank and that Democrats are going to take a beating by voters in November. Yes, he is reporting all of those results. But he pointed out to his Locals community an interesting result that can be seen in the raw data.

Raw polling data always returns a significant partisan advantage for Democrats. This is because sampling heavily favors Northeast and West Coast responses, and urban liberals are much more likely to respond to pollsters. What reputable pollsters, like Rich, do is weight the results for region and demographics. With proper weighting you can get a true understanding of voter sentiment. Of course the disreputable pollsters don't weight, because they want to show those heavy Democrat advantages.

What this raw sample is showing is that Republican identification is now higher than Democrat. The results were 37.2 Rep, 37.0 Dem, and 25.8 Ind. The Independent result is unchanged from his previous poll and is showing an 8 point shift from Democrat to Republican.

Unsurprisingly, the media is lying to you.

The media spin on this affiliation shift is "The Rise of the Independents". They are trying to explain this away as a "pox on both sides" phenomena, and voters are abandoning the Democrats to identify as Independent. I noticed this tidbit in Ace's polling post last week:

Why it matters: The survey does not show a mass defection to the Republican Party.

- Axios

Again, this is a lie.

The net partisan shift is definitively from Democrat to Republican, whether it is Democrats switching, or Democrat movement to Independent being matched by Independent movement to Republican. Rich's raw results are heavily from the Northeast, where Democrats have enjoyed significant political dominance for generations.

And this is where the law of unintended consequences has come to bite the Democrats. They have spent generations promoting Hispanic immigration and Black dependence with the intent of bolstering their existing advantages with working class whites. They intended to have an unassailable voting block to ensure permanent majority status to implement their policy desires.

The problem they have brought on themselves is that their policy choices are social Marxism coupled with a mythos of Wokeness that does not play well outside of upper-class liberal enclaves, academia, and the laptop class. They have succeeded in turning off their own political base. Consider the political poison that is transgenders in women's athletics. This issue is becoming a religious tenet for the Democrats like abortion. However, it is deeply unpopular within the voting public. Baris' polling finds that nationally voters oppose transgenders competing when scholarships are at stake by 55% to 28%. In blue Virginia this opposition rises to 59% to 23%.

Political maturation is a process where new immigrants come to a country and vote as a block for a single political party that is viewed as being "on their side". This is not something that happens just in the United States, there are examples worldwide. Over time, the immigrants become more aware of the nuances of their new country and stop voting as a block. Their choices become much more diverse dictated by regional and class affiliations, among other issues.

From 1830 to 1930 over 4 million Irish immigrants arrived in the United States, the majority of those were Protestants fleeing religious discrimination or famine. Many of the Northeast political machine figures from the Democrat party trace their lineage to Irish Catholics, including Joe Crowley who lost to AOC in 2018. When the Irish Protestants arrived, they moved into Irish enclaves and worked with other Irish in factories and mills. The Erie Canal was built by the Irish. They also voted as a unified group, with common national identity being what bound them to the Democrat party. This trend continued through the 1930s and 1940s. But over time, political maturation took hold and the Irish Protestants stopped voting similarly to Irish Catholics. For example, Irish Protestants in New York State voted 68% to 32% for Reagan 1984, while Irish Catholics in Massachusetts voted 56% to 43% for Mondale.

A similar process is now occurring with Hispanics, and at a much faster rate. Second and third generation Hispanics are abandoning the Democrat party to the point that some polling is showing a majority of Hispanics supporting the Republican party and especially Trump. To a lesser extent, this is also happening with Black males. In Florida, the Democrats are generationally locked out of winning statewide office because of the strong shift in South Florida within the Cuban and Venezuelan communities. The Cuban community, in particular, had been trending toward the Democrat party up to 2010, but that has changed dramatically since 2016 across all generational demographics. These changes in political affiliation appear to be generationally permanent, and the white liberals in the Tampa and Orlando areas do not have the numbers to overcome this change, regardless of turnout.

Beware the hubris that power is permanent.

And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

— Percy Shelley

8 The Cook Report, that Democrat rag, has an interesting note today. Even though Democrats will lose big in November, say they, the damage will be contained by gerrymanders and pure luck. That's right, luck will save the day.

More specifically, the CR says the specific Democrat House seats at issue this midterm are, by pure chance, seats that are pretty much already solid D. Relatively few are
moderate D (defined by them as D+7 or closer). So what might be a 60 seat loss, CR thinks will be a 25-30 seat loss.

Seems mighty thin to me, but hey, what do I know.

The two-party system isn't set in stone, but it is just a convenient vehicle for simple Boolean responses to political reality.

Until something comes along and makes one of the two current parties irrelevant to the electorate (like the Federalist Party simply offering nothing in the face of Democratic-Republican successes and hegemony) we're simply going to be in this mode for a while.

The Democrats survived the 60s and Republicans survived the 70s. Looks like they both could survive the 2020s.

It's hard to tell what the GOP actually stands for because it's in the middle of a very long and public fight about that very question. Chances are, I think, that in a decade it will be fully some kind of populist, America First party having left behind the corporatist mode of the past few decades. It's not there now, though.

Democrat Party, though? There's so little pushback on any higher level to the wokeness that there seems to be little question about what the party itself stands for. I don't think the largest bloc of their base (Dems who live in Midwest and have been Dem for generations because FDR saved granddaddy's farm, or whatever) are on board, hence the party's move towards a more regional party.

81 The difference between R's and D's:

R's do worry about getting re-elected, so, once in a while, they do something for their constituents.

Democrats, however, have the equivalent of cannon fodder and will sacrifice them and control of government for their agenda, knowing full well, R's can be trusted to do something incredibly stupid so Democrats wind up back in power.

But not in the same form, particularly the Democrats.

The Democrat party of today bears little resemblance to the Democrat party of the 60s and 70s other than the name. They have gone so far left I struggle to come up with a single policy the two have in common.

Republicans seem to be going through a transition now into a more nationalistic and middle class focused party. Not overnight but definitely changing including the demographics.

100 I'm of the opinion that the Democrats will gain seats this November. Not a lot, but enough to push their agenda through.

1. They stole a presidential election, they aren't going to hesitate to steal a congressional one. To those who say "It would be too obvious if they did that" I'll say that the Media will gin up the "You can't question the results unless you're committing treason" bit.

2. The GOP doesn't want to win. It wants to sit there and take donations and whine about how much they could do, if only they were in power. They'll be among the very first to congratulate the Dems on their victory.

I am hoping to eat those words come November, but I am not planning on it.

If Trump lost the primary in 2016 and the GOP had lost with Jeb as the frontrunner to Hillary, I think we'd be in a very different place within the party. 161 FWIW, Cook Report is directed more to media and donors, not to ordinary people. More or less they are a trailing indicator and not leading because for the most part they use fundraising, normal political voting ratios, media coverage, and nationally polling to make calls.

Formula works well enough for normal years, less so for wave elections. To do more, you have to pore over the Almanac of American politics, have some local input from party officials on candidates, look at fundraising and cost to run, nationalizing issues, and preferably private polling by candidates. Senate is easier than house races, governor races are wildcards, and state legislative races are off the radar screen.

Trump succeeded in rebranding both parties. The Democrats in their hubris couldn't help but go along with his branding of them as un-American, hateful, authoritarian scumbags. Because it's what they are.

But the Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to be the same old loser silver spoon lying CoC commie-lite scumbag assholes they've always been, instead of strong, patriotic, forward looking, culturally "conservative", and honest.

Also, I think as much as they may be itching for it, I don't think the Dems have the nerve to go YOLO on the Russia thing, given the anti-war sentiment of many of their voters.

I suspect the same. There is one giveaway that a colleague might not be a woke idiot, though: they don't talk. They talk business, but not politics or social stuff. Those on the Left *always* signal their opinions. Silence isn't a guarantee that the person is non-left, but it is an indicator of the possibility.

The mandatory CRT training was the last straw though.

Problem was every time there would be budget shenanigans the temps would get "laid off" a week or so before the continuing resolution expired because we could not continue their contract without any budget authorization. It was a mess because back in the day DOD was getting CR's that would last a month or two at a time and then expire. That went on for almost a year.

IMO, McD should go back to the basics and eliminate most of their menu.

I think it's the flatness of the filmed terror elements. The implied terror, like just that hyperspace drive spinning, is creepy. Sam Neill walking around with clawed out eyes ends up looking kind of hokey rather than terrifying.

JackStraw posted the filing on the ONT. I'm waiting to hear from Margot Cleveland or Technofog as to their take, but what I noticed was that Durham didn't have to for this motion, but he made clear that there were two lies by Sussmann, one to the FBI and one to the CIA, and they were different. It takes two predicate acts in furtherance of a conspiracy to prove a criminal enterprise. I may be reading more into it than is there, but I think Durham calling out two distinct lies is a shot across the bow that there is more than mere conspiracy in play.

"About how many cookies do you get with the master pack of six?
"Answer: Each master case of Hydrox Cookie has six packages. We have two sizes. The 8.6 oz package has 18 cookies per pack and the 13 oz, has 27 cookies per pack.
By Leaf Brands, LLC SELLER on June 5, 2019"

So with the smaller you get 108 cookies, divided by $24, which yields a price per package of $4.50. The other 162 cookies, divided by $34 gives $4.76/pkg. That's not a whole lot more than a package of Oreos, and these don't have the corn syrup junk. Hmmmm . . .

469 I am surprised that the protestant Irish outnumbered the catholic irish in all those hundred years of immigration 1830 to 1930.

My great grandma was one, a protestant from county Cavan, one of the ring counties. She experienced the famine, but came to NY or Maine (we aren't sure which) ten years after the worst famine year.

Her parents were born in Scotland, so that makes her Scotch-Irish. She married a carpenter from rural main, a guy from a lineage of Welsh New Englanders that came before the revolution. He had some high school, and became an elevator inspector in Jersey City, NJ.

They sent their two kids, a girl and a boy, to Vassar and NYU.

Frank Hague ran the democrat machine in Jersey City from the mayor's office, for 30 years beginning 1917.

I remember my dad, who was born when Hague was first elected, saying of his first voting experience in New Jersey, the poll worker thug saying to him, "you already voted, and so'd your old man."

This is worth remembering when you look at what's happening now. Companies conspiring together to harm or damage a certain group is not new, this didn't just start lately with wokesters. All that's changed is the target. All the stupid, evil, racist stuff being done to white people now was done to other groups in the past.

537 Unintended Consequences, Part Number too many to count

I cannot find a definition of "woman" or "man" in the United States Code. I'm not a lawyer and I searched for only 20 minutes, so I may have missed the boat.

To me this means two things:
1. US Code (and Congress, that passed the Code) is written with the common sense definitions of man and woman implied.
2. The no-definiton situation means there is a loophole as wide as Whoopi's butt in US Code as to what a woman is in every paragraph of the US Code.

This can be very convenient for the Deep State, the courts, and the Biden Junta. For example, this is from a story on DailyMail today:

Five of Biden's federal agencies refused to define the word 'woman' days after Ketanji Brown Jackson did the same because 'she isn't a biologist'. The DOJ, Dept of Education, HUD and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, all of which fall under the Biden's purview, were asked for a definition of the word 'woman'. However, none of the five agencies were able to provide their definition for what constitutes a 'woman'.

625 From 1830 to 1930 over 4 million Irish immigrants arrived in the United States, the majority of those were Protestants fleeing religious discrimination or famine.

I dont think this is accurate.
The majority of those displaced by famine in mid 1800's were the poor Catholics.
And the 'know-nothings' here in US railed against the Irish immigrants precisely bc they were Catholic.

651 I watched a YouTube documentary thing about Gary, Indiana yesterday. The premise was that 'America' looted the city.
Had some former mayor's talk, and other local politicians.

Apparently Trump had his Miss USA pageant there in 2001, and these people complained that it was a failure because no one stayed in town, bought shit, or are in town. WELL, in the next breath they admitted that there were no hotels, decent restaurants, or shops in the vicinity. (WTF? duh) But it wasn't Gary's fault.

They also bitched that the town of Merrillville (just south) killed Gary. Well, the fact is that while Gary was turning into a shithole, people who had initiative moved the fuck out and made their lives better elsewhere. I remember the joke that Merrillville was 'the city that Gary built'.

When people tolerate the shitholes they have created for themselves, then they deserve what they get. You either make it better, or failing that, you leave.

668 There was one creepy spot some years ago where an adult rolls over in bed, and there's the King in crown and robe in bed with him.

That whole "breakfast with the king" ad campaign is a clinic in what is wrong with advertising today and yet businesses simply do not learn.

The campaign won all kinds of awards and the ad company that did it became more wealthy and got bigger contracts. But it didn't make Burger King money, they didn't see an increase in sales or interest. It was a huge waste of money; they'd have been better off just burning a big pile of cash like the Joker, at least they could have kept warm with the money.

But the ad company was able to point to all those awards and say "see, buy our services!" Ad companies rarely advertise for the product any longer. Their ads are for their ad company, its a huge scam.

669 So on the protestant/catholic error. The source I was working from was confusing about the demographic makeup. But the basic fact does remain that Irish voted as a bloc (also a grammar error that was pointed out) until the 1930s, then began to vote differently based on denomination and region.

Also, I'm finished apologizing for 2020. Democrats hardly needed me as an operative when they were able to generate millions of fraudulent votes.
