Nights in the 20s? Da Swamp doesn't see that ever in March. Hardly ever in January, for that matter. 'Twill be something like 75 this afternoon, and while it's less humid than it will be shortly, that's still reason to run the A/C.

I'm off to the grocery in a bit, so I don't have to fool with it tomorrow and can work out without hurrying. Later, a trip to the library, a couple of other errands, and then a nap!

The big discount place in Fort Smith was down to 3.39 with their membership card, whatever that is (it's not Sam's or the like, just a gas station and beverage store) and 3.49 without the card. I like going to the local place where I wave and they turn on the pump without having to go in and pre pay.

108 My wife went into town yesterday to look for some outdoor cushions and "stuff." This is interesting; she went to a joint called "At Home." They sell cheap home d�cor. Previously they had a lot of empty shelving and limited merch for sale. It's a warehouse type place so it was very noticeable. She told me they were overflowing with stuff yesterday.

Same for a department store called "Belks." They sell cheap clothing and some other junk. Previously their racks and shelves were pretty bare, but yesterday they were fully stocked... she said.

What's going on? Personally I think they might have had the "spring" stuff all along and are just now putting it out. What you see is all there is.

PS - Looked up VA fence laws...seems that since it was technically a boundary fence, I could have been stuck paying half when he replaced it if he'd have given me written notice, so he must have used the "doesn't care about a boundary" part of the law to do and pay for it himself...

May dig a little deeper, but at least this one seems like a "not as big a deal as I thought" issue.

I guess it helps being here...putting up boundaries seemed to be very important in the law (hello 1600s colony building), but not so much defining them exactly with fences...

Hey, this last week I looked into getting SSI payments as well as Social Security, once I no longer have earned income. I figured, why not. Problem: The SS is counted as unearned income, and I get too much to receive SSI. At least according to my reading of the rules. Anybody know different?

Though, even if I don't *see* any SSI because my SS reduces it to 0, maybe I could get on food stamps?

I thought so too, but I think from my reading of the SSA page, if your SS is low enough -- and you're over 65, OR blind OR disabled -- then you can get SSI. The latter gets reduced by $1 for every buck you receive in SS. In my case, the supplemental thing would be wiped out before I saw a penny. I'd get denied right off the bat, I'm sure.

221 I just learned of a horrific dog attack story in my area. A 38-year old woman was out walking in Honea Path, SC and was attacked by 3 dogs, two of which were pit bulls. She was mauled nearly to death and her injuries are unbelievable. Both arms have been amputated up to the shoulder, she's had her colon removed, she has a hole in the back of her head and they are saying she's in danger of losing her esophagus. She's been in a medical coma since the attack. I can't imagine what she'll go through once she's awake and aware. The dogs' owner was arrested and released on bail. The only thing that stopped the attack was a resident who got his gun and fired it into the air, making the dogs scatter. It's just so ghastly, I can't imagine what this woman will go through recuperating and living with these injuries.

285 No coffee thread? Do any of you dislike what cream does to the taste? I used to drink coffee with cream and sugar like a fucking idiot until Doof steered my in the right direction (and eventually to King Harv) and the joys of Ethiopian beans. Anyway an extra pound of other beans which tasted fine with cream. Anyway when that pound was gone I tried cream with Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and the results were not good, as in a struggle to finish the tasteless mud. It seemed counterintuitive that the cream would do that. So back to black and the citrusy taste is back. I guess that makes sense in an acid versus base kind of way but wanted to poll the Horde on it.
