I'm just enamored of Japanese depictions of the Madonna and Child. There are even Nativity scenes including St. Joseph, and they are just simple and sublimely beautiful. They make their point without getting all treacly. Posted by: kallisto at March 23, 2022 07:38 PM (DJFLF) 26
I once spent a summer working for a Japanese man who had an incredible garden in his back yard. Mostly pulling weeds, grass and whatever he didn't want growing there. It was the most interesting "yard" I've ever been in.

Shopped for new fridge, result, modern fridges are ridiculously overpriced, seem to all have ridiculously low cubic ft and poor design and layout unless you splurge for the ludicrously expensive models. I've seen both LG and Samsung 'fridges opened up on the repair shop's workbench. There is no comparison, the Samsung is nearly 100% breakable plastic, even the DRIVE on the ice augur which moves the ice from the storage to the dispenser. Not "if" it'll break, but when.
The LG has a lot more stainless steel in the stress areas of moving parts, even molded into the plastic where hinge points occur for various internal doors n' such. Is an LG equal to a Whirlpool? I don't think so, but I'm happy with the LG here for the past three years. But if I were buying new, I'd be looking at commercial gear from the Restaurant Supply industry. Buy Once, Cry Once. Bonus, NONE of the commercial stuff is weighed down with "Internet of Things" chips, cameras, microphones and Report to Big Brother-ware. This parish (or at least its business office) covers the only 4 churches I consider within easy driving distance. (I'm old enough that these days I really hate driving "Texas distances", given limited peripheral vision, slowed reflexes, and the truly insane speed limits.) The diocesan office is in Tyler, about 2 hours away, the next closest is in Houston, I think -- maybe an hour and a half, but probably in the city itself, which is not something I care to risk. (I'd probably just get lost, anyway.) Which is why I'm in a bit of a quandary. Posted by: Ann Wilson, aka Empire 1 at March 23, 2022 09:29 PM (y0zVi) 288

I have a stick blender. I may be using this to put my cat on a raw meat diet (which means grinding chicken bones). But I've read about them for years. They can turn stuff into soup and heat it up as it grinds it. You can make frozen desserts. I might get the dry goods base and see how fine it can grind wheat. They are very powerful blenders and made in the US.

Reacher is so good if you read the books, because it's a tiny bit accurate as far as the books are concerned. You might find it mediocre if you haven't read the books because the production values and script aren't perfect. Bottom line it's a huge step up from the Tom Cruise films. Reacher is basically a giant pissed off Sherlock Holmes. It's a very strange character, and difficult to capture on film. This otherwise imperfect version of the character is the best you are likely to get.
