THE MORNING RANT: Tennessee County Dumping Dominion Voting System Due To Vote Tabulation Discrepancies; Voting Shenanigans in Houston

This is a straight news story from The Tennessean, Nashville’s far-left daily newspaper. What’s peculiar is that this reads pretty much like those “conspiracy theories” about Dominion’s voting system that I’ve read at conservative news sites.

Here’s Why Williamson County Is Switching To New Voting Machines After State Review (The Tennessean – 3/04/2022)

Williamson County [suburban Nashville] will use new voting machines in its 2022 election cycle following vote tabulation discrepancies found during the October election.

Oh really? Vote tabulation discrepancies? What voting system were they using?

In August 2021, Dominion Voting Systems programmed machines for the county's upcoming elections. But the company did not account for the new voting centers, so the Williamson County Election Commission asked Dominion to reprogram the machines.

Hold on just a moment here. I’ve been reliably told – ad nauseum in fact - that it’s a paranoid right-wing conspiracy to believe that Dominion voting machines can be programmed in any way that might not properly count and tabulate ballots.

Following the election that October, vote tabulations on the printed tapes from seven of the 19 scanners used did not match up with the tabulations that were electronically transmitted.

Wow. So votes in Williamson County were cast on Dominion machines, the printed read-out of votes cast at each machine were all totaled up, and that grand total did not match the grand total that Dominion’s system reported from its electronic tabulation of vote totals.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but that should not be happening in our elections.

Election reviewers attempting to replicate the error suggested that the seven faulty election machines were running on older firmware, which likely caused the error.

I wonder if any of those massive, middle-of-the-night, rounded-to-the-nearest-100,000 ballot dumps we saw on Election Night 2020 were simply caused by “older firmware.”

Meeting minutes show commissioners were concerned Dominion had not been forthcoming about why seven of the 19 voting machines were not fully updated, with Election Administrator Chad Gray saying the company was "evasive and unresponsive in identifying the root cause.”

Maybe, just maybe, we shouldn’t be allowing an “evasive and unresponsive” company with a flawed voting system to tabulate ballots.

Yes To Paper Ballots, But They Open The Door To Voting Suppression

With the risk of fraud associated with electronic voting, and the accompanying lack of actual ballots to hand count if necessary, there is an emerging consensus on the right that we need to move back to 100% paper ballots. I agree.

But that doesn’t mean there should be any less diligence in fighting ballot fraud. Paper-only ballots invite the possibility of voter suppression by not having enough ballots.

Until early voting and electronic voting machines came along in the late 20th century, it was effectively a policy in Travis County, Texas (Austin) that the Democrats who ran the county wouldn’t provide enough ballots for conservative precincts.

If you recall, this was the same corrupt Travis County political machine that had its District Attorney regularly bring bogus indictments against prominent Texas politicians who were adversaries of the state’s liberal Democrat establishment. Republicans Kay Bailey Hutchison, Rick Perry, Tom Delay, and Democrat Jim Mattox (an adversary of Ann Richards) were all indicted, without any convictions. But the process was the punishment. Those bogus indictments had a political impact on every one of them.

The way the vote suppression in Travis County worked was that the county elections administrator was only required to provide enough ballots to each precinct in accordance with historical countywide turnout. So, if countywide turnout averaged 50%, a Republican precinct that averaged 70% turnout would only get enough ballots for 50% of its registered voters. Meanwhile, a South Austin precinct that only averaged 30% turnout would have an abundance of excess ballots.

On election day, the TV stations would consistently report on Northwest Travis County precincts running out of ballots due to “unexpectedly” heavy turnout in those precincts. Those voters still in line would have to wait hours into the night until some more ballots arrived. A great many simply gave up and didn’t vote.

Another technique that was employed to suppress Republican votes was to provide too few voting booths. I recall one time in the late ‘80s waiting hours in line to vote, because there were only four voting booths at my precinct. Watching the news that evening, a local TV journalist reported on light voter turnout, while standing in front of a Democrat-leaning polling site with about a dozen voting booths in the background.

This Republican voter suppression was routinely discussed on at least one morning drive-time radio show at the time, and plenty of people wrote letters to the editor about it, but it persisted until early voting and electronic ballots came along, making it impossible to run out of ballots any longer.

Don’t misunderstand, I am strongly in favor of paper-only ballots, and also eliminating the fraud-riddled mess of mail-in ballots for those who can vote in person, but there is still plenty of opportunity for fraud with paper ballots. The good news is that Democrats can suppress fewer votes with paper ballots than they can create with digital ballot box stuffing.

Speaking Of Republican Voter Suppression in Democrat-Controlled Texas Counties

The elections administrator in Harris County, TX (Houston) found many ways to suppress Republican votes in the recent primary election.

Harris County GOP files new lawsuit against Isabel Longoria after learning of uncounted election night votes [KHOU – 3/07/2022]

The Harris County GOP said this was the most "egregious" and "mismanaged" election process ever and blamed it on Longoria, the county's elections administrator.

Some of the issues the GOP point out, according to their lawsuit, include:
• Issuing of incorrect ballots to certain polling locations, preventing voters from being able to vote
• Providing ballots on the wrong size paper
• Failing to complete the counting of the ballots within 24 hours of the polls closing
• Failing to deliver the required number of working voting machines and adequate supplies

The good news is that the lawsuit (along with viral posts on social media) have resulted in Ms. Longoria’s resignation.

Harris County elections administrator announces her resignation after 2022 primary election problems [Houston Public Media – 3/08/2022]

Longoria came under fire after her office took more than 24 hours to tally votes, and missed 10,000 mail-in ballots in the final unofficial count. Longoria has also been sued by the county GOP.

How in the world was this person in charge of an election? But of course:

The Democratic majority on Commissioners Court created the Elections Commission, which appointed Longoria.

He's going to donate hundreds of millions again, but the avenues to use again are limited, much moreso than in 2020. Democrats are going to cheat like hell again in 2022, but I seriously doubt they'll be able to overcome what's coming. And with voting integrity regularly polling as one of the most important issues to the electorate today, I foresee many up and coming state level Republicans trying to make their names by cheerleading voting integrity efforts in state house and governor's mansions.

We shall see.

The opposition party is in the middle of a very long process of change. The GOP of today is already very different from the GOP of 2010. This election could be a very large ratchet in a good direction for the party. It probably won't be able to change leadership in Congress, but that's not all of the Party. All I want from the federal Congress is a bulwark against Biden. I expect more from the state governments.

29 I think in Wisconsin the special counsel (who was appointed by the legislature) does not have indictment authority but can only refer to the county DAs. The county DAs in places where the vote shenanigans occurred are Democrats, so they will not prosecute. I believe someone (governor, maybe?) has very limited ability to fire a DA who will not do his or her job and the governor then appoints someone as interim, but the Governor is a Democrat. There is not going to be any Zuckerbucks prosecution in Wisconsin.

40 they cheat in so many ways, we tend to lose track. Especially since even when caught cheating, almost no one ever pays a price, they keep doing it.

Bannon has covered that CO woman that retained an image (copy) of a drive because Dominion was coming in with an update. She suspected they would wipe the old data, which they did. (which itself was criminal I think)

So they arrested her for ? trumped up something, and set her bail as cash $500K ... unheard of, as if she was a dangerous flight risk and had committed murder or something. It's not so much corruption, as far as I can tell, as it is incompetence. The County Clerk's office had a lot of people who did county clerk duties in non-election time and then did election duties at election time, so they were experienced. The new department didn't use them (different department and Democrats love to spend money), so they hired a bunch of new people and they hired a bunch of temps who, judging from their ethnicity, were likely employees of a Democrat contractor who fit some ethnic set-aside. 63 I have read that there was a trick used to steal elections in big cities years ago: the people counting the votes would put a pencil tip under the thumb nail. If it seemed that the wrong candidate was getting too many votes, the vote counters would quietly check off a second box for the same office, making it look like the ballot had votes for two candidates. Bingo (there's a suggestion for a monkey), ballot is invalid.

64 Ballot and equipment turn-in in November 2021, the first run by the new Election Department, was a disaster, and March 2022 was even worse. Pre-election training in November 2021 was bad and in March 2022 was even worse. The handbooks got worse from November to March. Most of the problems could actually be fixed onsite by the volunteers with a little common sense and understanding how computers, printers, and scanners work, but the elections staff completely failed to anticipate some things. For example, it was a long ballot that took 2 pages. What happens if the first page prints or scans, but the second page doesn't? You can't cancel the 1st page that the voter's already voted and it's scanned and in the ballot box, but you can't let the voter revote the first page a second time. It was a huge charlie foxtrot.

71 I wrote a program in BASIC that served as our voting software. OK, so a school election is much less complicated than a national election, but still, the basics of vote counting are the same.

And if asked, you'd have been happy to show and explain the code to anyone. There is no good reason for vote counting code to be considered proprietary or trade secrets. If Dominion or anyone else won't release their code for public scrutiny, the default assumption should be that it's crooked.

87 I voted early in Harris County this time. I am a prior Election Clerk but chose not to work after 2020 election because of growing Dem incompetence in running elections since 2016 when straight-ticket voting in the county for HillsBeast lost us our competent R County Clerk.

You are given a blank ballot sheet on specialty paper. After making your voting selections electronically, you feed the blank paper into the machine and it prints out your selection and a scannable barcode thingy. Then you go to another station and feed the printed ballot into a scanner which also stores the paper ballot.

Even in training on the new machines, there were constant problems with failure to feed without jamming. I think the texture / coating on the special ballot paper screwed with the ramp feed mechanics on the machines. It's a significant unaddressed problem.

Her actions, which didn't involve any actual data changes or electoral count fraud (rather just attempting to show Dominion's data manipulation) were rather bizarrely characterized by Colo Secy of State Jena Griswold thusly:
The secretary of state had harsh criticism for the clerk in response to her alleged activity. "What happened in Mesa Co. in 2021 was one of the nation's first insider attacks where someone elected to oversee elections worked to compromise elections from within.'

I figured out at my polling place that you could just pull the paper out and re-feed it and it worked fine (the problem was almost always that the voter didn't put it in straight), and if got so far in that there had to be a code and an election worker unjam it, then you could reverse feed and get the paper out, but then you had to forward feed for just a second to get the machine ready to accept the paper again. It was totally solvable, but no one anticipated it and no one trained election workers to deal with it. Please work in November, Count. We need you.

109 Another excellent reason to get rid of Dominion machines and return to paper ballots: Eliminates the Democrat's slow roll implementation of Ranked Choice Voting.

This is particularly prone to vote count shenanigans as well as a break from the concept of One Person = One Vote. How do you double-check how fractional votes were applied? How could you swing an election by manipulating the algorithm used to apply those fractional votes? This needs to be stopped.

Shenzhen -- a Chinese city nicknamed "the world's factory" -- is entering a lockdown of at least a week after daily Covid-19 cases nationally doubled to almost 3400. All non-essential businesses are being shut as Beijing battles to control the worst wave of infections since early 2020.

On the one hand, China's "zero Covid" strategy is very different from the "living with" policy being pursued in the West. Beijing wants to stop Covid in its tracks, rather than rely on vaccines to de-fang it. An outbreak similar to the one seen in China wouldn't provoke the same reaction here.

142 Good Lord!
I have received an email from the university where I don't teach anymore, but am teaching this term because I need the beer money, about how to engage with the students in this, yet another trying time of transition.
- This pandemic has been deeply disruptive to our peace of mind, to our connections with each other, and to our previous safe places.
- ... yet another transition is likely to bring confusion, uncertainty, and challenges to communal trust.
- We invite new investment in our value of showing care demonstrated through choosing to engage one another with empathy, co-constructing brave and humble conversations with one another, and continuing to take personal responsibility by staying home when sick and masking up when exposed.

And there goes my breakfast.

Which differs a bit from what we were hearing last week. It's possible the Ukrainians are just trying to pre-emptively spin concessions as a win.

Notice the deal terms they specific as must-haves, ceasefire and Russian withdrawal, would also occur in a surrender.

152 Throw out the voter rolls. Start over. Re-Register voters up to 45 days before an election. Issue paper ballots to each Precinct for the number of registered voters. Each ballot is to be accounted for via sequential serial numbers. Use only mechanical tabulation for vote counting.
No computers.
Posted by: Brewingfrog at March 14, 2022 11:22 AM (9sa8G)

Agree No Computers! Paper Ballots!
Issue them to precincts in sealed packs of 500 or 1000 ballots. Each pack has a unique tracking number printed on it. When it gets to the precinct, the partisan election judges initial each individual ballot and count them. Then as people vote, spoilt ballots are marked with a big red X on them witnessed by partisan judges. Good ballots are put in the box, and after voting ends, all unused ballots are marked as spoiled w/ X witnessed by partisan judges.
Count all the good ballots, plus spoilt ballots should be the same as the number the judges signed and totaled. Any ballots w/o all the correct unique tracking number AND the judges initials are obviously phony. Any number of missing ballots? Obvious theft occurred.

Yes. There was an $11 million "COVID community outreach" contract that went to one of Commissioner Adrian Garcia's cronies in defiance of the bid reviewing panel that selected another firm. It was cancelled after a few days when the word broke in the news, but the AG is presumably interested in the process of how the panel selection was thrown out and the county awarded the contract to a less-qualified firm. The Comandante said the raid was for show and they would have just given the AG the documents if he had asked for them. She says it was all on the up and up and Garcia (the former sheriff) says he had nothing to do with it, yet there you have it. Somebody who knows something needs to whistleblow before it gets pinned on him or her (and probably already has, and they just need the documents for evidence). I predict we'll see indictments on this one.

I'm not so sure. Boston, supposedly 90% clot shotted, recently got rid of their vaxport for restaurants because they were going out of business.
Either the 90% is a lie, or the reason to get rid of the vaxport is a lie.
And Boston is COVID Karen ground zero.

207 Canadians may have a ridiculous government, but that's the fault of the voters, not the election machinery. It's no accident that voting machines, even the Canadian Dominion machines are not allowed in Federal elections. Cardboard box ballot booths, single election ballots, scrutineers from all parties seeing all actions, simple paper ballots, hand counting and everyone has to be satisfied with the procedures before votes are sent by phone to the riding. But most of all, you must have at least ten times the number of polling locations compared to what Americans are used to. Every apartment building, every school, every big box store should have a polling place. No more than 500 voters per polling location. Americans are a) wedded to stupid and easily manipulated technology; and b) incredible cheapskates when it comes to elections. It's bit you in the butt too many times. It's time to advance to appropriate 19th century technology and don't trust anyone. By the way, amend the civil rights act to divorce fed elections from state and local ones. Let the states be stupid on their own dime.

Yep, not just Houston, basically every major city across the country.
This is why it is important to do your bank reconciliations monthly -- if you don't bring an error to your bank within 30 days from receiving statement, you have no recourse.

Banks are also offering businesses/government agencies (i.e., places that write a lot of checks) a service called "Positive Pay." For a fee, you send a list of all your checks to the bank daily (check number, Payee and Amount) so the bank has a running tally. If a check is presented and it is not on the list with everything exactly as you sent it to the bank, then the bank declines it/refuses to honor it.

220 I think I see a small flaw in their thought process.

Requiring programming isn’t the problem; requiring programming that can’t be understood by anyone—and is probably proprietary to begin with—is the problem.

Adding numbers together is not a difficult or hard to understand process (one of the reasons, I suspect, that the left is so enamored of things like Condorcet voting—they want difficult and hard to understand processes to obscure cheating). The code should not be hard to understand either, and should fit in less memory than the constitution.

Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at March 14, 2022 12:10 PM (U+Oxn)

221 @Methos, Biden is the President. The process in the Constitution is that states select their electors, the electors vote, and the winner of the electoral votes is the President. The states don't even have to hold elections, although all of them do, of course. The state legislatures are completely in control of the process according to the Constitution. It's over as far as Biden is concerned. Where we need to focus like a laser beam is on making sure the state legislatures are good and cleaned out in this election cycle, because they will be in charge of the 2024 Presidential election process.

This is why computerized voting with printouts is not a bad idea. During the primaries, I took a human-readable printout from the voting machine to the vote-counting machine. This technically(*) makes the vote totals easy to verify using human-readable data.

(*) It would help a lot to have unique identifiers on the ballots attached to the counts, with a timestamp for when the ballot was cast (kept on the vote-taking machine) and when it was counted (kept on the vote-counting machine).

D. The firmware allows the date to be manipulated as it is stored or transmitted.

Media along with the Left are pushing against bills, such as Florida's (as they dubbed) "Don't Say Gay" bill in order to continue their grooming of young people. One example of this involves Pete Buttigieg's husband, Chastin.

Chastin Buttigieg, was featured in Amazon Prime's documentary "Mayor Pete" leading a group of young children in a pledge of allegiance to the LGBTQIA+ Pride Flag. The video shows Buttigieg replacing key words in The Pledge Allegiance of The United States of America with phrases such as "with affirmations and equal rights to all."

The good news is that 2020 was the last straight-ticket election. As county offices are at the bottom of the general election ballot, even after the judges, it will favor voters who are willing to work their way all the way down the ballot. We'll see in November, but the presumption is that the voters who will just vote the top of the ticket and not go any further will be predominantly Democrats. I look forward to telling many Democrats at my polling place who are looking for how to vote the straight ticket that it can't be done in Texas any more.

287 We've gotten to the point where this will all be immaterial. Without any repercussions the cheating is emboldened. The activists are mostly in place such that it will no longer matter whether a voting machine works or whether the ballot is paper.

It will come down to the individual responsible for reporting the results. If that person is an activist, ideologue, with no real threat of repercussions...he/she will just misrepresent the results.

We've seen how far the press, our DOJ and the Left side of the aisle is willing to go. They are under no threat to be fair.

You have to hack paper ballots one at a time. And you have to be up close and personal to do it.

Posted by: rd at March 14, 2022 12:32 PM (Z32m1)

301 My voting reform suggestion: no same-day registration, ever. All voters who want to get on the roll must register in person at a designated site within their district. Registration opens 6 months before the date of the election, and closes two weeks before the election, no extensions. Registration is valid for the election for which it was obtained, and for any runoffs, special elections, or recalls resulting from that election. Registration must be renewed for the next regular election. You need photo ID and proof of residence to be registered. Those who lack photo ID can get registered if they provide two guarantors who will vouch for their identity, and who themselves have photo ID and re registered to vote, and can show an ongoing relationship with the applicant (friends, family, teachers, storekeepers, pastors, etc.). 1/2

Broward Miami-Dade Palm Beach
Voting precincts 609 613 516

With MD have a voter pop of around 1.2 Mil
So less than 2000 voters per precinct.
With the polls open 12 hours they would only need to be able to service around 150 voters per hour.

Seems reasonable.

306 On Voting Day, registered voters shall visit a polling place in their district, present their Registered Voter card, which shall bear their photo, and be issued a ballot. Ballots shall be a two-layer form, with the back layer being carbonless copy paper. Both layers will bear the same unique serial number, and each tranche of ballots delivered to a polling place shall be scrambled within a range of serial numbers. Say George Washington Middle School gets ballots numbered 12001 through 13000. Those would be scrambled and lightly bound into pads, with the numbers facing down to make it difficult for poll workers to see them as they are handed out. Voter marks ballot with a ball-point pen, tears it off the counterfoil, folds the ballot, and places it in ballot box. Voter retains the counterfoil to prove his own choices. If fraud is suspected, parties can canvass their supporters for counterfoils to audit against ballots. 2/2
