39 The National Snow And Ice Data Center has the sads.

There is more ice in the Arctic now than there was at this time in 2006. You think this would occasion rejoicing - the polar bears are happy, the seals are happy, and the fragile Arctic ecosystem is preserved.

Yet, somehow, they don't want to discuss this - they glumly acknowledge that:

Average Arctic sea ice extent for February 2022 was 14.61 million square kilometers (5.64 million square miles), ranking fourteenth lowest in the satellite record., without providing more details.

OTOH, Antarctic ice is at its lowest extent ever, and they talk a lot about that. But if you look at their analysis, there is absolutely no trend in Antarctic ice minima over time. Sad!

69 Hmm, wheels or doors. Thats a tough one. I was thinking I had more wheels than doors. 3 cars plus 2 harleys and a car trailer, so thats 20 wheels, but there is a total of 20 doors in the house including garage doors and closet doors, so its even. But then I forgot about the lawn tractor and a couple of bicycles, so thats 8 more wheels, but then there are 12 doors between the cars and trailer, so doors pulls ahead. But then there are car jacks with wheels, and a bunch of dollys with wheels, and tool boxes with wheels, so wheels pulls ahead. But then you got city dwellers with no cars, and apts with doors, so their doors cancel out my wheels, and then primitives in 3rd world countries have a bicycles, but live in yurts with no doors, so they add to the wheels, and....

You know, fuck this question. lol

96 So many people don't have that many years with their parents.

So very true. My biological dad died when I was 35, step dad when I was 45. My sweet mama made it to just shy of her 89th birthday and I was uh... 29. But you are so right. Enjoy those times with your parents.

117 no idea if this is b/c they lied about how easy this would be, or if they were starting to undermine him b/c it wasn't easy and Putin was getting impatient

When you've spent two years in the world's most impenetrable Covid bubble (no one gets near Putin without quarantining for two weeks first), and you conduct all your business via Zoom calls or having your advisers sitting fifty feet away from you, you're not going to get honest assessments.

There is a chance that under normal conditions, one of his senior advisors would have walked into Putin's office, closed the door, pulled out a bottle of vodka, and said "Vladimir Vladmirovich, we need to talk." (Putin allegedly doesn't drink vodka, but you get the idea.)

That obviously didn't happen.

119 Thinking of my house as an example, and based on cars, lawnmower, snowblower and wheelbarrow, my first thought was "more doors". Then I remembered all the grand-kid's toys and said "more wheels". Then it occurred to me that the cars all have doors, so now I'm confused.

Someone should ask Jonah Goldbrick if a car's trunk lid and hood are doors. That should keep him twittering for a couple of weeks.

122 Question of the day: Could a desire to present a united front against the evils of rampant humanism lead to a rapprochement, or at least an alliance of mutual interest, between the Abrahamic religions?

Looking at history it was not so long ago that the various forms of Christianity were locked in violent struggle, but it appears that out of the actual believers (not you Jorge Mario Bergoglio) there is a real willingness to work together now.

And, while secular Jews have joined the enemy, religious Jews are also seeking closer ties with Christians.

But Islam is a tough bridge to cross. Islam is a mix of Christianity, Judaism and...pagan Arabic beliefs. Theologically it is a mess. And politically, well, observant Muslims recently called a Jihad against us. Looking at Saudi and the Arabic world they *might* be reconsidering the logic of that now but it isn't clear.

***
so - the initial thinking would be that doors might outnumber wheels. However, if you think that most houses have at least one car (that's 6 wheels - 4 on the mounts, a spare and a steering wheel and NOT counting any wheels in the motor that, say drive belts, etc.) and one bicycle (2 wheels) usually some type of skateboard, roller-skates or scooter (let's say 2 wheels to be conservative) and at least a few toy trucks/cars/trains for the kids - so lets say 4 wheels to be conservative, then wheels are starting to catch up, and that's just the obvious wheels. Now, add the wheels in sliding doors, the wheels that are on your garage door opener, and the wheels on that movable table in the kitchen etc. and you start to see that there are a hell of a lot more wheels than you think about. Now, think about the average airport. There are not that many doors, but there sure as sh*t a lot of luggage pieces with wheels, luggage carts and conveyer bets that are, essentially nothing but wheels and the answer seems to be leaning towards wheels. We use wheels . . . a lot.

Back in the Jurassic, when the Earth was about 9 degrees warmer on average than today, when CO2 levels were much much higher than now, and when there was not one piece of ice anywhere on the planet, it's estimated that the Earth had twice the total biomass living on it than it can sustain today.

so if anyone wants to pick a perfect temperature, that's what I would pick.

I used to work for a company that thought spelling their name in braille on their logo was cute but no blind person could ever read it since their cards and brochures were all printed flat.

The United States of America hasn't had a military since the Revolutionary War. The Party Military has been defending the MIC and the Ruling Class's position and ability to rule for well over two centuries.

Considering that the current set of rulers and oligarchs are genocidal, plundering mad men, I hope that their military is stacked top to bottom with colossal fuck-ups.

Posted by: AlaBAMA at March 11, 2022 10:50 PM (LKTKP)

Agree - my point was not that there are not a lot of doors, but that the use of wheels was omnipresent even more so than doors. So, for example - I'll spot you your microwave door, but point out that in any average microwave there are at least 4 wheels (the turntable and the wheel that drives the belt that moves it, and the fan and the wheel that drives the belt that moves it). Most machines are that way. Factoring in buildings like warehouses, airports that have few doors but sh*t tons of wheels and the needle seems to move decisively to wheels. Again, in my post above I said the average house has one bike and counted that as 2 wheels, but most bikes have speeds and gears and each gear is a wheel, so, say, a ten speed bike has 9 wheels, technically. When I was a kid I had a toy car collection (Matchbox) of almost 100 cars. that's 400 wheels right there and most of these toys had no doors that opened - so wheels really start to outnumber doors, arguably when you think about it. Now - hot dog a sandwich? Fight me!

Even if you take as gospel the temperature measured at the beginning of the 20th century and compared those to the end of the 20th/beginning of the 21st century, you already have a doubling of CO2. Temp rise? a degree more or less. Sorry, you get another degree rise after ANOTHER doubling of the CO2.

The oceans comprise something like 70% of the earth's surface, yet even now they are pretty much uninstrumented so what ever data records exist are recent, limited in nature, and not historical!

350 Climate Change is the perfect real world Doors versus Wheels example with the constantly changing definitions to have their side 'win.'

That being said....I'm solidly on Team Wheel.

But here is a big one for Team Door. Can you consider a sphincter to be a biological door? It opens and closes to either block or allow the passage of substances.

What the hell. All sphincters of every living creature can be counted as doors...biological doors. I'm feeling generous. Team Door just got a nice boost.

But Team Wheel still wins...

419 I'm kinda bummed this evening. We are trying to plan a family gathering and in the process, certain family members decided to display their lefty credentials. This is awkward because responding to the implied statements further embeds the political aspect into the discussion. So I didn't respond, but I hate letting lying statements stand. It seems some relatives are getting more aggressive about blaming Covid difficulties on those of us who didn't get injected. And the thing is, it's lefty policies that are causing the problems they are complaining about.

Oh, and if you ask them, they will insist that everyone has the right to make their personal choice about the injections. But the pandemic would be over by now if certain people had just done the "right thing."

Again, urg.

432 Re the Muslim \Christian meme...there are always two types of leaders in every religion. The split exists among followers too. In fact, you could say that human life splits this way too. Is your primary motivation to do things for the good of others whether generally, or for your family, or your nation, or humanity... Or is your primary motivation to do things for the good of yourself, your career, perhaps your family? Is your god God or is your god money\power? There is leadership of both types in all religions.

Many other matters I saw upon which I would comment if it weren't log-out time and brain melting. Like surviving diverticulitis, and the return of Willow and.. what was that other thing, Rick Perry? So, goodnighting with a re-post for one last self-plugola.

A) believe that a vaccine that the authorities they trust have admitted doesn't stop the spread of or keep you from getting a virus would have solved the issue if everyone had gotten it.
B) ignore the stats from the authorities they trust that say there is no difference (at best, some say more likely) in people hospitalized that did or didn't get the shot.
C) continue to believe that somehow wearing a cloth mask keeps out viruses that are much smaller than the holes in the mask.

One that surprised me: my uncle (married to my blood aunt) is a hypochondriac. He is the only one of the family who in the before times tested the waters and brought up politics. He has been completely silent about vaccination. Nothing. No masks worn or anything of that nature.

It was a good surprise.

497 The mainline Protestant churches continue to move left. I don't see that changing. They would rather be a tiny few than to reject their new mission. I don't know what Catholics and other Abramaic religions are doing.

I know what I did, I ended it. I tried to do it quietly and kindly. They made it difficult, so I had to be very clear. One thing they will never say is I was not clear about why I left.

Believers should respect each other. My issue is churches that have been skin suited.

My list of today's endurances:
1. Wearing a mask because I'm unclean (unvaxxed).
2. Being nose-raped for my weekly coof test, also due to being unclean.
3. Being spoken to and dismissed as if I were a toddler, making it clear they just don't give one fat damn about quality or production. (I believe I was "managed" by my boss who thinks I need "communication training" like he had).
4. Having said boss walk out a noon without telling anyone or reviewing the documents I needed him to review that were due TODAY.
5. Having said boss double book me for meetings next week and not replying when I asked him to send somebody else to one or two of those overlaps.

Not sure I'm able to tolerate much more.

This! For the purpose of this discussion, I think we should define "wheel" as a rotating disc that allows the transport of itself and the object to which its axle is fastened, and/or allows the transport of a material relative to the object to which its axle is fastened.

Examples of first case: car wheels, caster wheels, bike wheels.

Examples of second case: printer rollers, conveyor belt wheels, pulleys.

Intermediate case: bogie wheels on tanks and dozers.

The one simple question I always want Global Warming cultists asked is: What should the correct temperature for the Earth be? And no guessing but a firm number. Warming makes plants grow, providing us with more food, including grapes for all those whine moms. At one point in the not too distant past, England was known for its wine production. Today? Not so much.

Another interesting item is NYC's Central Park. Inside the park, you can still wee where the glaciers reached there furthest southern reach. Is that what the cultists want, NYC covered by a glacier? Oh wait, that's not a bad idea after all (says the NYC resident).

573 Where do I go to gripe about the "nonbinary" "agender" woke crap that's been shoved down the throats of players of my favorite game for the last two years? Or are we chalking this up to "globohomo Great Reset WuFlu?" Cuz I just finished a two-hour intense event and had to put up with "the mother of dragons" sounding like a DUDE the whole time.

574 Tis time. There's snow for tomorrow anywhere from a dusting to a foot projected depending on who you look at. Don't care.

Goodnite, good people. Be safe, stay warm and sleep well.

I have driven a car, not on the highway, with a pair of Vise-Grips clamped to the steering column. Like a tiller bar, which some early autos did indeed have.

578 Islam means "submission to god".

Israel means "to struggle with God".

These religions do not worship the same God that Abraham worshipped. The first moral lesson in the Bible is Genesis, and that lesson is that man has Free Will. Our God wants us to worship of our own accord, or our faith means nothing. Our God does not seek mindless automatons who submit themselves to His will.

Islam is opposed to Judeo-Christianity, not aligned with it.

From the last thread? I think it is a field of poppies, with the red or orange color altered to blue. The leafy foliage looks more like poppy than it does Nemophila. And poppies are known to grow in vast fields.

When I recall recent periods where Dims were serving as President, what comes to mind most often is how prone they were to offer up excuses or shift the blame when matters went sideways versus facing facts and confessing that they screwed up.
