Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Wednesday Morning Guest Rant [Joe Mannix]So misinformation is wrong, disinformation is a lie and malinformation is merely derogatory even though it is true. And it is now a formal definition of a Very Bad Thing per the government and is targeted for destruction. Not being wrong, not lying, just being opposed to whatever the state wants. Last week, the DHS jumped on board to exploit the framework put into place by CISA. In their terrorism threat bulletin, they call out that the threat in the US is "heightened" due to MDM: The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information (MDM) introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors. These threat actors seek to exacerbate societal friction to sow discord and undermine public trust in government institutions to encourage unrest, which could potentially inspire acts of violence. So the CISA defined it and called it out as a risk for elections (no doubt inspired by those six-figure Russian ad buys back in 2016), and then the DHS exploited the new lingo to generalize it against the American people. Anything that questions public institutions, the government or - by extension - the official narrative is now a terrorism threat. Any derogatory information that could "undermine public trust" is now terrorism. In other words, your speech - even if truthful - is now a targeted "threat." And the government isn't shy about recruiting the private sector - in this case, it's likely Big Tech and the telecoms - to help make sure this dreadful MDM risk is contained: DHS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) continue to share timely and actionable information and intelligence with the broadest audience possible. This includes sharing information and intelligence with our partners across every level of government and in the private sector.Good thing they're just "sharing information" and not formally acting against free speech that might be derogatory to the government complex's messaging. I'm sure everything is still just perfectly fine and this isn't at all the tremendous escalation against civil rights by a tyrannical government that it appears to be. Misinformation is false, but not created or shared with the intention of causing harm.
Disinformation is deliberately created to mislead, harm, or manipulate a person, social group, organization, or country. Posted by: Sponge - China is Asshoe! at February 16, 2022 11:08 AM (Zz0t1) ++++ Yup. Especially that last one. At least with the first two there is some degree of objectivity in that the information is incorrect. The difference between misinformation and disinformation is intent, but the fact remains in either case that the information is wrong. The last one is the real escalation. It's truthful information that is being "misconstrued" or "taken out of context" or whatever other crap they want to attribute to it, but it still makes you a terrorist. And all the state has to do is project some intent onto truthful but derogatory information and BOOM - you're now a terrorist. This particular monkey looks like a monkey in a movie about an old past his prime monkey prizefighter. He still has some of the muscle definition but it's starting to retreat and mornings are hell on the joints and tendons. He groans a bit when he gets up and is on a doctor-prescribed diet with lots of fiber.
He meets up with a down on her luck young monkey that was scammed out of her meager life savings by a group of petty criminal monkeys. So they are on a "coming of age, last hurrah" generational buddy trip to catch up with the bad monkeys and get her money back. These definitions are spreading to government-affiliated private companies now. Social networks like Twitter are banning accounts falling into these categories. Witness Twitter yesterday banning "Defiant L's" who merely posted true (but derogatory) meme's. Next up are mainstream companies spreading these themes through HR staff memos, as Corporate political commissars like to do.

I know people have threatened free speech in one form or another for most all my lifetime.
I never would've believed I would see it actually come to pass and by the very entity that specifically was enjoined to be unable to do so and that they were acting illegally if they did so. And the courts after decades of the usurpation of the role of interpretation of the Constitution even tho they were not explicitly named as the final arbiter have failed for the most part in putting a stop to it. And the blame for that resides mostly with the Republican party. Lately joined by the Democrats in that they are utilizing the illegal laws against many of our bill of rights under the guise of protection from terrorism as happens so many times; a law will be passed that on the face of it seems reasonable and it is if it is kept within the original parameters and against those it was originally meant for but LE will always distort the usage of the law and find other means and targets. And the Roberts court has been especially weak in defense of the Bill of Rights. Posted by: jakee308 at February 16, 2022 11:19 AM (/P0gj) 113

So, if I understand this, in order for the Canadian "Emergency Powers Act" to go into effect, the Federal legislature has to vote to approve it within seven days of it being invoked. But when asked about this in Parliament, Trudeau refused to answer, per CTH. Is he planning to just claim its powers, but never complete the process of implementing it? I'm thinking of governors in this country claiming temporary emergency powers for COVID, but never getting the powers extended, yet using the authority permanently. We've already seen Orwell in action with the FIB.
We've already seen the riff on "Spying". Comey said that the FIB does "Court-ordered surveillance". As Chris Plante pointed out, the court is not ordering anything more than what the FIB requests, so it's really court-reviewed surveillance, provided it's being reviewed at all. The Page FISAs looked more like rubber-stamps, from dinner guests (the redacted dinner guest of Strzok, e.g.). All the official stuff was forgotten. In order to get a renewal, they were supposed to show that they had solid evidence of their original claim, i.e. that Page was an agent of Russia. Even if what Clinesmith did wasn't something that you put people behind bars for, having exculpatory evidence when trying somebody ex-parte and simply whoopsying it, really, when it all comes out, doesn't speak well for the review of the process. The nice thing is DHS and FBI analysts are mostly lazy, time serving bureaucrats, so we can expect them to be about as successful in this endeavor as any other.
The bad thing is these lazy DHS/FBI analysts will all just take their cues on this from CNN/WaPo because it's the easiest thing for them to do. And then you remember CNN etc. are basically just laundering Prog NGO and DNC flack talking points and press releases, it would probably be more efficient just to hand badges and guns to every Southern Poverty Law Center summer intern and close down the FBI/DHS. So, if I understand this, in order for the Canadian "Emergency Powers Act" to go into effect, the Federal legislature has to vote to approve it within seven days of it being invoked. But when asked about this in Parliament, Trudeau refused to answer, per CTH.

351 So, if I understand this, in order for the Canadian "Emergency Powers Act" to go into effect, the Federal legislature has to vote to approve it within seven days of it being invoked. But when asked about this in Parliament, Trudeau refused to answer, per CTH. Yes it needs Parliament's approval. And he didn't just refuse to answer, he walked out. Posted by: kallistx at February 16, 2022 11:54 AM (DJFLF) Yes, Parliament must vote to CONTINE the powers. But until Parliament votes, he has those powers apparently. My smoking story: I was big time into sports all through HS and college and never smoked. After college in the Navy, I started to smoke - I could be wrong, but I think that smokes were $.10/pack at sea. That morphed into smoking until age 40 when I quit during a 60 mile canoe trek through the Adirondacks. I thought I might die from cravings, but I was able to quit. now at 65 I'm glad I did. It is never too late to quit.

"Malinformation" is the most pernicious of the categories. As we all know from social media, and their "fact checkers", virtually anything can be labelled "malinformation" -- even if it is true -- provided that it contradicts the mainstream narrative.
The mainstream narrative is the "missing context". Posted by: Revenant at February 16, 2022 12:10 PM (Q+K8B) 436

The latest poll finds 48% of the state's voters approving, with 16% approving strongly and 32% approving somewhat. However, nearly as many (47%) disapprove, 31% of whom say they disapprove strongly. At present, 36% now believe California is moving in the right direction, while 54% feel it is on the wrong track.
