"But the advice that party leaders are giving members of Congress - to 'correct the record' when Republicans criticize them on schools and culture - isn't going to cut it," he added.

Bloomberg also writes that swing voters "will decide the 2022 midterm elections," adding that "polls show they are swinging away from Democrats."

"The earthquake that shook San Francisco needs to shake up our party, before voters do it themselves in November," he writes.

The current claim that the shot only reduces severity, not risk of getting COVID is not what was claimed originally (and supposedly backed by SCIENCE!) and its also what the current laws are based on.

If the clot shot only reduces severity of the disease then the line of argument the Junta has been making for forcing the jab has no basis in logic.

183 Lagging behind per usual -- can't keep up with you'all (perhaps reading every comment is doing it wrong?). Re-posted/quoted for elegant truth from prior thread:
-------
There should never exist in any Western nation even the concept of "Emergencies Act".

Inalienable Rights are just that. No one but God (who doesn't change) has the authority to define Rights, nor no human being has the authority to void them whenever - especially when it is just politically convenient.

It isn't just Consent of the Governed (it is), but that how one person can unilaterally declare that any human right is void during a time of chaos and uncertainty is absolutely insane. Very few people make good decisions when in a highly fluid, volatile and life/death situations when there is very little information, time for soul searching, analysis and sober reflection.

The Emergency Act is putting liquid oxygen on a fire. The concept alone is profane and an enemy of reason and experience.

Hammershoi is a form of competitive ballet where each dancer has an Olympic track and field throwing hammer, the object being to take out the kneecaps of the opposing team of dancers.

Tonya Harding made a lateral move into hammershoi after leaving her figure skating career.

"The key to proper anion design for the second component requires that the anionic complex is labile and stable toward reactions with the cationic metallocene in the final catalyst species. We have discovered that anions which are stable toward reactions with water or Bronsted acids and which do not have acidic protons located on the exterior of the anion (i.e. anionic complexes which do not react with strong acids or bases) possess the stability necessary to qualify as a stable anion for the catalyst system. The properties of the anion which are important for maximum lability include overall size, and shape (i.e. large radius of curvature), and nucleophilicty."

272 Hi! So it seems to not be making the news, but down here in SE PA there has been a big stir about a VERY intrusive (and long!) political survey a lot of local high schools and middle schools are giving their students (without notifying parents!). It's about parental political leanings. I put a link in my sig to the actual University of Michigan (the asshats who made it and pushed it out to schools) documentation, but these links keep getting knocked down. For now this one works. If I had a news story to share I would! so far this isn't breaking thru.

276 The overseas data is showing that getting the clot shot makes you more likely to get COVID.

I presume the CDC data will show the same thing.
__________

IIRC, that Israeli study showed that the vax provides a couple of months of protection against whatever variation it was developed for. IOW, if a person got the shot for delta, they'd be protected against delta for a short time, but they would then be MORE susceptible to infection from other variations than the un-vaxxed.

That's why when omicron came along, all those delta-vaxed people started getting infected.

And that's just one of the short-term consequences of the vaccines. We still don't know the long-term consequences, although we do know that the CDC has been secretly studying reported cognitive problems caused by the shots. But they're not telling us about that data either, because . . . shut up, peons!

But, after about a month of asking, we started film version of The Fellowship of the Ring a couple of weekends ago. Being 7, he could only sit for so long and we got through about 2/3 of it. We finished it last weekend. By the battle at Amon Hen he was swinging a pretend sword around with the action. He's excited about continuing into The Two Towers next weekend.

Probably. But even if he wasn't, the city and state leadership who could have "reformed" police methods were donks and had been for years. But Trump was conveniently blamed, which led to the insurrection attack on the WH that followed, along with burning and looting in cities with nothing to do with the police procedures that allegedly helped along, though did not cause, Floyd's demise. Do you recall any prominent GOP making this case? I sure don't.

I have a collection of the joke / anecdote books he put out in the 1950s and 60s. Great clean jokes and good stories, but Cerf is a consistent name-dropper - 'when I was driving with Gershwin,' 'when I was having dinner with Moss Hart,' 'Heywood Broun told me' - that sort of thing.

A legitimate technique when you're introducing a book by one of your writers, but not so much at other times.

I have Cerf's Modern Library edition of Three Famous Murder Novels, with Before the Fact and Trent's Last Case in it. Cerf mentions, I think, that the famous student of human sexuality Havelock Ellis was a big fan of the third novel, The House of the Arrow -- but Cerf admits it was Ellis who told him about the novel in the first place, so that's legit.

I saw the first episode and have recorded (but not watched) the second. Good production values, IMO, and I like the actor who plays Lincoln, especially how he eschews the sonorous baritone voice for a more realistic (so we have been told) higher-pitched local yokel accent.

I have a problem with some of the talking heads, but I'd rather keep that to myself. Overall, I like it so far.

Junior has decided that he is interested in The Lord of the Rings. I have no idea why or how because I haven't pushed it on him at all.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least. I do not trust any politician or talking head to be free of graft and influence. And since every time we discuss the Convention here, people bring up how easy it would be for the left to subvert the Constitution and replace it with some nebulous Federation charter,* a Convention would be a Soros wet dream.

*trivia: in the original Star Fleet Technical Manual, the "Federation Charter" was a direct copy of the UN Charter.

360 I've read Goldman's Princess Bride, but never seen the entire film. According to what I've read about it, all the actors loved working on the film and didn't want the shoot to end -- much like Mel Brooks and his cast during Young Frankenstein.

William Goldman is an author any aspiring writer should study. Not only did a lot of his stuff get turned into movies, he adapted many of them himself, and kept his trademark: The One Line That Changes Everything. See in Butch Cassidy, when we think Sundance is about to rape Etta Place, making her take off her clothes at gunpoint . . . and then she murmurs, "Just once I wish you'd be on time!"

401 Members of the NSW (New South Wales) Nurses and Midwives Association went on strike for the first time in more than a decade on February 15. The demonstration saw thousands of nurses and midwives walk off the job in NSW last Tuesday. Many strike participants traveled to the state's capital city, Sydney, to rally in front of the NSW Parliament building. They hoped NSW legislators meeting for the first time this year would hear their demands for better wages and staffing ratios. Other striking health care workers staged rallies "in regional parts of NSW" on February 15, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

The strike was originally scheduled to last just 24 hours but was still active as of February 21, according to reports by both the South Coast Register and the Australian Associated Press (AAP). The NSW Nurses and Midwives Association on Monday had made little to no progress in achieving the changes it advocated for through last week's strike, according to South Coast Register's report on February 21.

-------

That's the reason for a lot of the overreach. They could have ended this simply by arresting the truckers, on whatever trumped up charges. But they went for "we'll freeze bank accounts, revoke passports, sell trucks, etc."

That's to terrorize the rest into compliance, with the knowledge that there are no longer any legal restrictions on the regime, and it could just as easily break a strike by these same means.

425 The White House on Tuesday began referring to Russian troop deployments in eastern Ukraine as an "invasion" after initially hesitating to use the term -- a red line that President Joe Biden has said would result in the U.S. levying severe sanctions against Moscow. Several European leaders said earlier in the day that Russian troops have moved into rebel-held areas in eastern Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin's recognized their independence -- but some indicated it was not yet the long-feared, full-fledged invasion.

But the racial repression is not perpetuated by the white majority or "white culture" itself, but only by the powerful minority of white liberals who control the key institutions that dominate and exploit black people and black culture for their own corrupt ends. We shouldn't be denying the reality of systemic racism in the communities where most black people reside; we should instead be exposing its white liberal perpetrators and purging their racist ideas and practices from our society.

I like it. It's a deeply compromised production (the rotoscoping was largely a late-stage cost cutting technique), and the lack of "Part 1" in the title apparently confused audiences, but I find it entertaining enough.

No. I do not concede that white people are holding blacks back. People who refuse to push the kids to do well in school, who encourage a culture of "baby-daddies" and who promote "don't act white" are holding themselves back and knee capping their kids. Shifting "blame whitey" for your ignorance and entitlement, doesn't solve anything, keeps the myth alive to be tossed around like a hot potato, and guarantees more affirmative action and destruction of educational standards.

497 Bringing Gabbard to CPAC is nothing more then a veiled attempt by the Chamber of Commerce Republicans to bring back their failed brand of George Bush Republicanism. It's another "meet them in the middle" attempt to hoodwink the voters and ignore a principles based approach to governing.

I have no interest in saving the Democrat Party or standing up a rival. I am interested in someone with the courage to finally stand up for the people and govern based on what THEY want, not some inside the Beltway bunch of think tanks and their benefactors.

You want my support CPAC? Get up off your fat asses, out of the cloak rooms and grow a pair of balls. There is a very clear agenda the people want, and it's being ignored by every elected Republican coward in Washington.

In my opinion, LoTR requires/ed a traditional approach to bring it to life.

There was no budget to make the film appropriately in those days. Even if there had been the budget, not even Disney could have brought it off.

Had there been a director with the vision and balls to attack the books, the technology wasn't there to make it work.

LoTR was , and is best as Theater of the Mind...

I don't mind rotoscoping. Remember Vaarna the hot swordswoman in Heavy Metal?

Some of the rotoscoping there is quite good. The orcs at Helm's Deep are bad.

581 I had the chance to attend a con where Peter S. Beagle was a GoH. It was interesting to learn about his gradual acceptance of the fact he would forever be known for writing The Last Unicorn.

Yeah, he wrote several good novels, and I really liked The Folk of the Air. But yeah, he's always going to be The Last Unicorn, and at least he could take some consolation in the fans' love.

That was on Weathertop, when Frodo got stabbed en route to Rivendell.

I loved the movie, as somebody said, it was the only film adaptation in existence. Still have it on VHS, lol.

594 We shouldn't be denying the reality of systemic racism in the communities where most black people reside; we should instead be exposing its white liberal perpetrators and purging their racist ideas and practices from our society.
___________

Blacks have been willing partners in creating -- and sustaining -- the systems that have kept them down. Sure, white leftists originated the ideas for exploiting blacks (LBJ's "I'll keep them n---ers voting for Democrats for the next hundred years," Margaret Sanger's dreams of eliminating blacks through abortion, etc.), but their schemes could never have worked but for the active participation of blacks themselves.

I think I read that it was really just a cost cutting measure. It's why they're almost uniformly black. They were running out of time and money and just made it as simple to animate as possible.

Blacks in this country have the same exact opportunities as everyone else. They mostly choose not to pursue those opportunities. It's self inflicted for the most part in my experience. I went to High School in an inner City HS and I saw that play out in real life.
