The Saturday Night Joke

AN OLD WOMAN WALKED UP AND TIED HER OLD MULE TO THE HITCHING POST.

AS SHE STOOD THERE, BRUSHING SOME OF THE DUST FROM HER FACE AND CLOTHES, A YOUNG GUNSLINGER STEPPED OUT OF THE SALOON WITH A GUN IN ONE HAND AND A BOTTLE OF WHISKEY IN THE OTHER. THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER LOOKED AT THE OLD WOMAN AND LAUGHED, “HEY OLD WOMAN, HAVE YOU EVER DANCED?”

THE OLD WOMAN LOOKED UP AT THE GUNSLINGER AND SAID, “NO,… I NEVER DID DANCE… NEVER REALLY WANTED TO.”

A CROWD HAD GATHERED AS THE GUNSLINGER GRINNED AND SAID “WELL, YOU OLD BAG, YOU’RE GONNA DANCE NOW,” AND STARTED SHOOTING AT THE OLD WOMAN’S FEET.THE OLD WOMAN PROSPECTOR — NOT WANTING TO GET HER TOE BLOWN OFF –STARTED HOPPING AROUND.
EVERYBODY WAS LAUGHING. WHEN HIS LAST BULLET HAD BEEN FIRED, THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER, STILL LAUGHING, HOLSTERED HIS GUN AND TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK INTO THE SALOON.

THE OLD WOMAN TURNED TO HER PACK MULE, PULLED OUT A DOUBLE-BARRELED SHOTGUN, AND COCKED BOTH HAMMERS.THE LOUD CLICKS CARRIED CLEARLY THROUGH THE DESERT AIR, AND THE CROWD STOPPED LAUGHING IMMEDIATELY.

THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER HEARD THE SOUNDS, TOO, AND HE TURNED AROUND VERY SLOWLY. THE SILENCE WAS ALMOST DEAFENING.

THE CROWD WATCHED AS THE YOUNG GUNMAN STARED AT THE OLD WOMAN AND THE LARGE GAPING HOLES OF THOSE TWIN BARRELS.THE BARRELS OF THE SHOTGUN NEVER WAVERED IN THE OLD WOMAN’S HANDS, AS SHE QUIETLY SAID, “SON, HAVE YOU EVER KISSED A MULE’S ASS?”

THE GUNSLINGER SWALLOWED HARD AND SAID, “NO M’AM… BUT I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO.

THERE ARE FIVE LESSONS HERE FOR ALL OF US:

1 – Never be arrogant.
2 – Don’t waste ammunition.
3 – Whiskey makes you think you’re smarter than you are.
4 – Always make sure you know who has the power.
5 – Don’t mess with old women; they didn’t get old by being stupid.

The ONT Is Always Looking Out For You.TM

This year’s Big Game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals here in LA’s new stadium has football fans super excited across the City of Angels and beyond. Let’s be honest, though, this unofficial American holiday is as much about the food as it is about football. Planning a healthy menu for the Big Game is easier than you may expect and will make your home team fans go wild.

Why be mindful about food and drink when the Big Game happens just one day out of the year? Overindulgence on Sunday leads to as many as one in four employees calling in sick on Monday. Heartburn and blood sugar problems are just a few of the unpleasant side effects that can occur when eating in excess and deviating from your usual meal plan.

Here are some healthy Game Day menu ideas to fuel your football-watching:

This looks like fun both as a spectator and participant.

It seems like some people have all the luck. Other people are born with a Lucky Rabbit's Foot up their ass.

THIS is the shocking moment a woman is run over twice after a driver apparently mistook her for a snowdrift.

The 77-year-old pedestrian miraculously survived without a scratch after the motorist ran her over while reversing from a parking spot.

Musicians are certainly some thin skinned individuals. Contracts obviously don't mean anything. I'll take my microphone and go home.

Nope. No inflation in the pre-owned vehicle market.

InIn December 2014, I bought a Honda Fit right off the lot. It had 23 miles, and I paid $20,814.80, including accessories and an extended warranty. This December, a buzzy startup called Carvana drove away with my car, cutting me a check for $20,905 — leaving me with a profit of $90.20.

Not only that, but Carvana’s offer was $5,000 higher than Vroom, $6,000 higher than TrueCar, and $7,500 higher than CarMax. Carvana’s offer changed day by day, too: the final one I accepted was $1,338 higher than its lowest quote.

I knew I had everything going for me — low mileage, no accidents, and desirable trim at a time when car prices are going through the roof on a model that Honda discontinued. And yet, it sounded ludicrous. Used cars almost never sell for more than their original price, and the company knew next to nothing about me. Yet, Carvana’s algorithm had agreed to pay $20K for my car sight-unseen, even bring a pre-printed check to my door, before any inspection took place. The online quote arrived so fast, I knew a human couldn’t have been involved.

Do you remember Fingos? Not quite as classy as Kaboom.

Fingos
A classic business failure. In the early 1990s, the marketing team at General Mills came up with the idea of a cereal that could be eaten without milk any time of day. Despite spending millions to promote it, hardly anyone bought the stuff.

Geography Lesson.

FROM BUTT HOLE ROAD TO CLIMAX, PA: THE HORNY ART OF VULGAR GEOGRAPHY
The age-old practice of ‘vulgar geography’ involves giving incredibly sexual names to otherwise uneventful places. But when it comes to naming mountains and streams, how much can you really get away with?

For decades, English-speaking tourists have made pilgrimages from around the world to visit a tiny, Austrian village once known as Fucking. No doubt chuckling the entire time, pranksters have stolen the town’s official road sign on countless occasions (at one point it had to be chained to the ground), whereas local residents have long complained about having to shrug off constant, shitty jokes made by visitors. In late 2020, frustrated citizens rallied together to campaign for an official name change. They succeeded, and soon afterwards, the local mayor announced that Fucking would now be known as Fugging, although the nearby Oberfucking and Unterfucking still exist in Austria.

Reason #242 not to live in Madison, WI. This guy ought to be receiving a medal instead of a felony charge.

Wisconsin man is facing a felony charge after using his truck to T-bone a vehicle carrying two people who had just stolen a snow blower from his family’s garage, police report.

According to cops, Corey Sanderson, 29, intentionally plowed into the driver’s side of the getaway car as it turned onto a street a few blocks from his Madison residence.

The vehicle’s occupants, a man and a woman, suffered “serious, but non-life threatening injuries” and were transported late Monday night to a local hospital, investigators say.

Sanderson (seen at right) told Madison Police Department officers that he “saw two people steal a snow blower from his garage and began following them in his truck.” He reportedly admitted intentionally t-boning the other vehicle, prompting cops to arrest him on a felony reckless endangerment charge.

Whenever I see a story like this I think of Heinlein. "Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded - here and there, now and then - are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck."

"When confronted, cops say, Meader admitted to “doing ‘stupid stuff’ and admitted that he had ‘nutted’ on the Olaf stuffed animal.” As seen above, a store surveillance camera recorded Meader engaged with the Olaf doll, which he returned in its soiled state to a pile of other stuffed animals."

88 Another heart-healthy option for the super bowl is to take a roll of hot breakfast sausage, a can of Ro-tel, a block of Velveeta, and half a can of Miller Lite and throw it all in a crock pot.

Get some of those scoop shaped Fritos and eat the entire crockpot and drink a fifth of liquor.

It will reduce stress levels, and stress is the silent killer.

94 Robert the Cat (TM) update.

He is becoming more and more the "cat" that all of us who love cats want. He rubs more, he jumps on chests more, and he even "meowd" once tonight.

(Not sure why, usually when silent cats meow it indicates distress, but he seems fine. Maybe he just wanted to wake me up.)

Anyway, he's great and keeps getting greater. He's still working on the "snuggling" bit, but he's a fast learner.

From what I've seen, the thorium is not used to power the reactor but to cool it. It's more properly referredd to as a "thorium cooled" reactor.

167 The war will start on Wednesday, as Putin does a Nazi-style blitz into Kiev, slaughtering tens of thousands of civilians as he does so.

This is the conclusion of the US "intelligence community", so you know that it's true.

Our only hope is that one steely-eyed man from Scranton can stare Putin in the eye, and get him to back down.

Thank God, that at this moment of supreme crisis, we have Joe Biden at the helm. He's toughness personified.

236 The War Party has come out with a new angle. Terrell Jermaine Starr has written an article in Foreign Policy explaining why we should go to war in Ukraine. His schtick is that he is a black, very left-wing "foreign policy" expert who allegedly speaks Russian, Ukrainian, and Georgian.

He explains that one of the reasons why we should defend Ukraine is that "vast regions, such as Siberia, the Caucasus, and the Arctic, were all colonized during the Russian Empire. Minority peoples were trampled by Russian armies and targeted for genocide by Soviet rule."

"Russia's history, like the United States, is built off the back of settler colonialism."

Nuke 'em!

Not to worry though:

But at this point, it is clear that Putin is getting fat off the West's diplomatic carrots and needs a few whacks of the stick - none of which includes sending U.S. troops to do the whacking.

Whew, that's a relief. US troops won't be involved - at least on Day One. Give it a week. He hates Israel too - we should boycott Israel, and defend the corrupt oligarchy in Ukraine. Interesting set of priorities.

He may have decided that given how weak Biden is, that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

OTOH, he's already done an excellent job splitting France and Germany off from the United States. Launching a major military campaign in the Ukraine would tend to push the NATO countries back together.

That has been my attitude all along, that the current flag is a political construct that was foisted on the people without any meaningful consultation. If I were to fly a flag, it would have been the Red Ensign, with the green maple leaves on it.

But I am now beginning to think that Freedom-loving Canadians are taking ownership of that flag, much to the chagrin of the Liberal assholes.

My first decade or so as a young adult was full of self-loathing and recriminations for the past. It's pointless. You have to learn to turn that voice off and fill your head with something else.

At one point I saved emails with nice things that people said about me. Sometimes it came in handy.

Unless you're some kind of psycho murderer, those recriminations are just the kinds of things we all feel from time to time.

435 According to this page, thorium is abundant especially in US, India and Australia. Looks like it also has some large deposits in Canada, South Africa and Brazil.

Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 12, 2022 11:12 PM (dNqv+)

That article plays very fast and loose with the term "reserves". An ore reserve is a deposit of minerals that has been sufficiently well defined by drilling or underground development to become a bankable asset. What they are really describing is "inferred resources", i.e.: "we know we have X trillion tons of rock in this formation, of a type that usually carries 1-3 ppm of thorium minerals, so if we mined and milled it, we might get 400,000 tons of Thorium concentrate, which would cost a metric fuckton of dollars, but you aren't supposed to ask that".

Problem with Thorium is that there are no geologic processes that are known to concentrate it sufficiently to be a mineable resource in ots own right. It tends to form tiny sand-size grains that are widely dispersed in certain igneous rocks, and as minor constituents of certain deposits of rare earth minerals. Most of the world's supply of thorium comes from beach sand in India.

Posted by: browndog Official Mascot of Team Gizzard at February 12, 2022 11:31 PM (BgMrQ)

Destructive internal dialogue is a good thing.

It often dissuades your from doing things which you almost certainly would have f^cked up royally, because you lack ability and just generally aren't a good person or competent, contributing human being.

Just imagine how many fewer tranny, furry, green-haired TikTwitter videos we'd have if more of the freaks had an inner dialogue saying "You are a weird, deviant loser and no one cares what you think".

Publius has often told me how he wishes I could have known his father in his heyday.

I fixed dinner for him the other week while his wife was out gallivanting with her girlfriend, and we sat at the table and talked a good while. The longest conversation we've ever had, one-on-one.

With footnotes by various miscreants of the ONT Horde, and I'd hope you'd honor me by going completely over the top, good, bad, up, down or sideways. Go nuts, and make sure that no one reading the thing would ever know whether to doubt or believe, no matter how hard they tried.

Were Hunter S. Thompson to look at your words, and think his life as thin soup in compare, well, I'd rest easy with smile in my soul. Walter Mitty should read, and wonder.. "hey, why didn't I ever think of that?" And my highest monument, would be the launching of the Weekly Obit Thread, with each week's star being some deserving Hordian, still among the living. In the style of a Dean Martin Roast, of course.

Not that I know, but to me, anyone, including me, can ask a question (or make a comment) that is, or might appear to be, dumb.

A troll is generally a destructive persistent presence that tries to mask its true nature, think "agent provocateur", malevolent "thread disrupter", or an agent of potentially harmful content that might damage this site/AoS.

669 I had a cordless circular saw for a short while. It didn't start out that way, but I was careless.
Posted by: Blanco Basura[-i]

I have one of those, too! It has been a steady performer for me for several years now!

Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars at February 13, 2022 02:25 AM (pNxlR)

I have an older makita circular saw like that. The cord is taped up in a few places. My father, after hammering it for some years on the job, handed it to me and says "see if you can do something with this". Somewhere around that time he hands me a 4" bosch belt sander that the cord got sucked up into and mangled. Same deal, see what you can do with this. He was one talented craftsman, but damn he knew how to explode tools.

One day I'll spring for the SnapOn, or Mac. Maybe. I'm getting too old for this stuff.

I would do the ICON, and this is from somebody who has snap-on. The ICON is very nice, comes with the calibration test certificate, and is made well. It was around $100.

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at February 13, 2022 02:40 AM (VwHCD)

675 Well Horde, it is getting late here, I have obligations in the morning, no time to shop on Amazon. I am purchasing either the cough drops or the gummy bears in the morning. Thank you all for the outstanding medical advice and for wishing me a shitty day, I love you all.

676 Tell Ms. Bunny Suit that it's Wabbit Season. And tell her to put it on your bill. As it spins around, of course.

Humor would be lost on the ward, and I'll not gamble this. Wouldn't be an honorable wager, when the outcome is so very assured.

I don't plan on an armed assault. I feel confident that I can spring him without the use of lead.

Friggin masks, too. You know they wouldn't even let me inside the ER? This world has gone crazy. It's been two fucking years already.

God bless those truckers who began what appears to be a swell of resistance around the world. And Castreau Junior's gonna get the blame at the next Schwab gathering.

685 Good Night everyone.....no comments tonight - just lurking.

Prayers for those in hospital - and for all of us. We live in interesting times.

On a lighter note - wife and I went looking at Airstreams today - maybe the 22' Caravel. Note - we have never so much as set up a tent in the backyard together, nor have we ever towed anything so this is an adventure. I did camp and RV as a kid with my parents, and camped with my son's scout troops but wife never did. My plan is to retire, load the thing up and drag it around the country....maybe stop and see some morons in western Colorado and NSD Texas and Wisconsin and Brattleboro Vt and...and... and....

Sometimes I have to look words up because I am lost. So... torque wrench... is Chinto a Japanese Brand name for tools?

Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 13, 2022 03:17 AM (dNqv+)

692 Lift?

LUXURY!

Seriously, though... had to replace motor twice anyway.
Bought a reman, took it to bro's garage (overhead hoist) followed all instructions, yadda yadda-- think a ring broke-- one cylinder bad compression dry/wet. Called up shop. They sent replacement.

Bro was then being a dick, so redid it all at my place with cherry picker only. Had to pull whole front end because not enough height w/picker. Ugh! Grrrrr.

Anyway. Lol. My oil pan is custom painted with "smile if it's JUST an oil change" by the drain plug.
