The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information (MDM) introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors. These threat actors seek to exacerbate societal friction to sow discord and undermine public trust in government institutions to encourage unrest, which could potentially inspire acts of violence.

Gigabyte's new Aero laptops are on their way with Alder Lake chips. (Tom's Hardware)

The current models are interesting because they combine solid CPUs and graphics options with 4K AMOLED displays. A lot of the time laptops with solid graphics go for low-resolution high-refresh display panels. Since I spend far more time working than gaming I'd much rather have a high-res low-refresh screen.

The 16" model has a 3840x2400 60Hz AMOLED panel or an optional 2560x1600 165 Hz LCD - still pretty good, up to a 12900HK CPU and 3080 Ti graphics, up to 64GB of RAM, and two M.2 slots so in theory a maximum of 16TB of SSD though that gets pretty expensive.

Where the old models had a broad range of ports, the new ones are simplified: Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort support - so three outputs that can drive monitors without needing a dock, and a headphone jack. Wired Ethernet seems to have disappeared. On the other hand, it looks like they have the Four Essential Keys.
Intel lost half a billion dollars on its Optane business last year. (Tom's Hardware)

Optane is a technology similar to flash, but about ten times faster and ten times more expensive. Since flash storage can already be very fast, and is much, much cheaper, that leaves only a small and stagnant market for Optane. Which is a shame because on a purely technical basis it's kind of neat.

12 On the tech front I purchased myself a new monitor in December and I do enjoy it. It's an MSI 27" the one at Walmart. Well I decide I want to have my second monitor be that as well since they will both be display port then and the color match will be good. Well my local Walmarts are out of them but I can get it online. So I've been waiting for a week for an Ohio to Ohio delivery from FedEx, with them claiming weather delays. But it got shipped to the wrong FedEx spot and the label was supposedly unreadable, and so sent back to the original FedEx pickup for a new label. I'm not feeling good about this arriving in good condition.

I'd make a guess that "mis-information" could be construed as "the person made an honest mistake." But "disinformation" implies a deliberate attempt to deceive, as used by intelligence agencies. "Mal-information" implies deception too, but with actual malice intended?

mis- is from the old English/German, mal- is from the Latin/French and they both mean the same thing.

dis- allegedly comes from Russian and because the Left is obsessed with anything Russian, of course it is a form of Projection and means to willfully deceive.

The Left is also famous for deconstruction of the language and converting defined words into emotional triggers, often completely redefining a word so that the preferred response/reaction is made.

So it is ironic that they are blaming others of mis-/mal-/dis- information when it is they that are lying pretty much all of the time.

I remember the good old days when a person would whip out the map, chart their course, maybe ask someone at the destination what sort of landmarks to anticipate.

My team war gamed that scenario a while back and concluded rather quickly that it was complete bullshit.

The first few months was chaos as people were queueing in lines to get shots in the Walgreens parking lot and were given hasty index cards with stickers or barely legible scrawlings on them.

The second shot was also performed in an uncontrolled manner. Two weeks later at some random location.
No one asked what for the lot-number of the previous shot and no one said "no, wait, you absolutely need to go to location-X and ask for Betsy for your second shot".

Dittos with the booster. It was madness. And given what I know about medical record keeping these days, that process would be a complete Cluster Foxtrot.

Yes, I may already have dragged this out a little longer than necessary. Every day or so he would seem to improve enough that I thought, "Okay, he feels pretty good." And then he'd slide back. HIs quality of life is not much now.

Miss Linda has always insisted his name be spelled "Chekhov" like the playwright, instead of the spelling which is on his papers, "Chekov." I've told her for his little brass plaque he can have his extra "h." (I wanted to set his epitaph as "Lampkiller," his nickname from years back, but it's not very respectful!)
