Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Los Angeles Ports Are Now Handling Less Volume Than Before Biden Announced His FixDo you remember three short months ago when President Biden boldly announced a White House plan to fix the bottleneck at Los Angeles County’s two big ports. You’ll never believe what happened next. (Teaser: It got worse.) White House plan aims to help key West Coast ports stay open 24/7 to ease supply chain bottlenecks (CNBC – 10/13/2021)As supply chain bottlenecks around the world threaten to hobble the U.S. holiday shopping season, President Joe Biden will unveil a plan Wednesday to try to ease West Coast delays at the ports of Long Beach, California, and Los Angeles by expanding round-the-clock operations. So what happened in subsequent months? Port of Los Angeles Confirms Cargo Dip in November 2021 No. Way. I won’t bore you with all the links, but I’ve put together this little table showing how many TEUs* were handled by the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in October 2021, the month when Biden unveiled his plan to fix the bottleneck, and in the two months that followed. (*TEU is an acronym for “Twenty Foot Equivalent,” or one standard 20-foot container.) • Unit volume for the Port of Los Angeles was 902,644 TEUs in October 2021. November 2021 TEUs of 811,460 and December 2021 TEUs of 786,589 were both significantly lower than in October 2021. • Unit volume for the Port of Long Beach was 789,716 TEUs in October 2021. November 2021 TEUs of 745,488 and December 2021 TEUs of 754,314 were both lower than in October 2021. Not only has unit volume in November and December 2021 decreased from October 2021, but year-over-year volume also declined. November and December 2021 TEUs at both ports were down significantly from the volume recorded one year prior in November and December 2020. Inexplicably, after President Biden unveiled his plan last October, the situation got worse. Almost as inexplicably, the same media that heaped slobbering praise on Biden for “fixing” the backlog has suddenly stopped reporting on the worsening situation at these ports. The supply chain problems go much deeper than the mess at the ports of Los Angeles County, but the fact that Biden’s plan to fix those problems only made them worse bodes poorly for us all. ++++ There is an alternative. Did Brandon and Mayor Pete's response to the bottleneck and problems make them worse, or were they merely ineffective? I actually suspect the latter. More important, can the California ports problem even *be* solved through administration policy even if those policies are good? It's a multi-faceted problem. What if nothing you use to push on the problem will work if you're pushing from Washington instead of from Sacramento or Los Angeles? That's perhaps worse. "but the fact that Biden's plan to fix those problems only made them worse bodes poorly for us all."
Just from the above data, I don't think it is clearly "Fact" the Biden Fixes (not Hunter's) made the problems worse. The other factors that have increased are more shutdowns, perhaps in China, or in the US with the mandates for the Vax on normal workers. General economic slowdown could be another factor. So there is correlation, but it would be much harder to show direct causation as Fact. (of Biden policies being the cause reduced volume). But idk exactly what those Fixes were ... but it probably involved Hunter getting cash and hookers to get Daddy to do China a favor or ten. 31 What about other US ports. Did they get the increase from LA's decrease?
Posted by: Anti doesn't matter at January 31, 2022 11:09 AM (4v2Bk) That would only be an issue if there was no longer any backlogs at the LA ports. Instead, they continue to set records for the number of ships waiting to be unloaded, even if it's not as visible from shore since they've been ordered to drop anchor further from the shore. You could also argue that a drop is expected when comparing October to November or December since because of Thanksgiving and Christmas (and since, in normal years, most goods would be imported well before Thanksgiving). However, that's where the year-to-year numbers are important. The decrease in unloading compared to previous year shows that the nothingness that Biden or Mayor Pete proclaimed certainly did nothing to help the problem. I doubt, however, that they paid enough attention to the logjam to f' it up further. Posted by: Virginia SoCon at January 31, 2022 11:15 AM (a/dOO) 73

Just from the above data, I don't think it is clearly "Fact" the Biden Fixes (not Hunter's) made the problems worse.

Well, I can tell you that the whole supply chain problem is just more mass hysteria.
I can tell you that because as a retired toff who is spending the winter abroad there are no supply chain issues in countries where people are willing to work. Since November I've been in North Macedonia, Turkey, Greece, and now Cambodia. Things seem normalish, except for masks. But all the shelves seem stocked and things are pretty much normal. Because people need to work to eat in these countries, which of course I find foreign and exotic. But if you live in a country where people don't want to work, and the government seems willing to do it's damndest to keep people from having to work, then you are screwed. Oh, RedState has an article up on tough-guy Trey Gowdy titled Gowdy Goes Gowdy on Democrats, Republicans, and 'Government Competence' I think it was written with the Horde in mind, considering the opening paragraphs:
Fully aware that former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy is among a 'select' group of Republicans that the hardest of diehard Trump supporters immediately throw under the bus every time they happen across virtually any news about the guy, I'm going to write this article nonetheless. Why? Because, as was the case in 2020, selective support (or lack thereof) for whatever reason(s) between Never-Trumper Republicans and Always-Trumper Republicans, if it occurs in 2024-make that continues to occur-will again not prove to be a winning strategy. Yeah, you dumb Trumpthuglicans! Vote Red no matter who, or you're not a real conservative! The actual article itself is basically retarded: Gowdy said both sides need to work on messaging and present what they're FOR, and not just AGAINST. Profound stuff. The CA port issue is like everything else these days. A few days or weeks of squeeeee and then no one is talking about it anymore. On to the next crisis. See Afghanistan and all that went with it. It was long rumored many ships were taken further off the California coast, out to sea, to await off loading someday, or to be abandoned. Warehousing - lack thereof - is always part of port problems. And I also have serious doubts Customs & the USDA Food Service Inspection Service has been staffed (or adequately staffed) in most ports as required through the last 22 months.
I so greatly admire the Canadian trucks and farmers making a stand for freedom. But I'm also concerned it might work well into cutting exports & imports to/from Canada & the USA that coupled with west coast port situation, will place us at the start of a major trade squeeze that will further rock the pocketbooks and jobs of average citizens and many businesses. They kid about Canada being the 51 state. The NGOs actually running the US may be way ahead in planning, ready to make us another Australia soon. They're not backing off The Reset. >>One of the things I liked about Fixer Upper, particularly in the beginning, is that they worked with people who had realistic budgets. Many were under $200K, which was a nice change from "This couple only has $800K to get the house of their dreams!" week after week.
Yeah, one the blue state transplants started showing up the house fixes got bigger and much more expensive. One thing that always bugs me on these shows are that in a lot of the houses toured, you can see that the current owner fixed up the kitchen, bathroom -- not high end, but. . .it's like a renovation scam. First, the owner is told by the realtor they have to redo these spaces to attract buyers and increase sale price. Typically, not high end, but take it from, say, 70's and 80's to current style. Then the shows with the potential buyer(s) show them, usually the woman, taking a one second glance at the kitchen and exclaiming "this of course has to go!" -- it's an obviously new, if not fancy, redone kitchen and it's going to be trashed immediately. Joe Rogan is part of the new Amorphous Political Blob with no continuity of thought or logic. It's increasingly popular among younger people that are products of post-modernist education.
It's partly rejectionist ideology, part utopian dreamer, part lethargy. You will see inconsistent thought like "The government has covered up alien existence and imprisoned people for using homeopathic treatments, it can't be trusted. But I still think a communist society could work." It's populated with people like Rogan, Tim Pool, Russel Brand and others. There basic talking point is "I'm not left or right" and they talk all the time about getting along and stopping arguing and stuff that basically appeals to kids that grew up in broken homes where their moms and dads fought all the time. It's flash promise is that we can all stop arguing and then the world will be grand. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at January 31, 2022 11:55 AM (dbs6Z) 273

As near as I can tell, truckers are in short supply, and, therefore, are able to pretty much pick and choose their work.
So, of course, our so-called "elites" have decided disparaging truckers is a great idea. My house was built in the 70s and the last renovation (kitchen) was done, if I had to guess, in the early or mid 90s. It's "dated" as they say, but it's a *very* good kitchen. They did a great job with layout, cabinets are solid wood, drawers are all nicely dovetailed and assembled, the sink is good, etc. On HGTV, this kitchen would be promptly ripped out and replaced with something more "current" or fashionable. But to replace my kitchen with a new one of equivalent quality would be very very expensive. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 31, 2022 11:57 AM (DU+/6) 282

Like, maybe that cheap house with the not high end but new stuff is affordable and acceptable to a number of potential buyers -- but HGTV is selling us on people with means buying up that house and then throwing $10's or thousands, 100's of dollars even, because the new owner doesn't like the news stuff. Say he pisses off the port unions? So what? Where do these people in CA go to vote? Are they going to start voting Republican? Would it make the state in play? Of course not. 421 Trudeau really is a little shit. I can't watch him anymore. He just went on a rant about how uniquely terrible the trucker protesters are. It's incredible. There was one guy with a southern battle flag who was very obviously a plant. There was a small group of about seven guys who were carrying around a couple of flags. They were probably plants, who knows? But that's all I saw on Twitter. Now Trudeau is using these very very few people to smear the entire group. What a little shit.

NotTheBee has a pretty good rundown of some of the ridiculous narratives being pushed against the Canadian Truckers, and some great pushback against them. Several are from Canadian Sikhs sauntering the "truckers are white supremacists" bullshit. And there's one video of a Chinese lady who climbed up onto a truck's running board to thank the black driver for standing up for her rights -- which she earned by escaping the grip of the CCP only to find once again constricting around her by Nancyboy Trudeau.

Last June the American Journal of Therapeutics published a meta-analysis of 15 different clinical studies on ivermectin.
That AJT analysis concluded: "Moderate-certainty evidence finds that large reductions in COVID-19 deaths are possible using ivermectin. Using ivermectin early in the clinical course may reduce numbers progressing to severe disease. The apparent safety and low cost suggest that ivermectin is likely to have a significant impact on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic globally." Now, a new study by Japanese pharmaceutical giant Kowa concludes that ivermectin has an "antiviral effect" against covid variants. But yeah, keep listening to the "mainstream" experts who've been telling everybody that ivermectin is dangerous horse de-wormer and can't help treat covid. They can't get Emergency Use Authorization for the vaccines if there is an effective alternative therapy. They have to pretend that nothing else works and actively not gain knowledge of the therapies that actually do work, because if they know, they can't justify the vaccines. I was at the Port in Long Beach this past Saturday... no one was there and almost nothing was happening. Over four hours we saw exactly one Container Ship make its way into the port. There was one other ship being unloaded, but while each berth has something like a dozen cranes available, only one crane was operating. No line of trucks waiting to be loaded with containers. And there were a ton of tugboats, which guide the ships into port, tied up to the quay and one of the tugboat captains was fishing off the back of his vessel. Yes it was Saturday, but they promised us 24/7... I was there. this is a lie.
