Monmouth Poll: Republicans and Republican-Leaning Independents Now Make Up the Majority of the Country

Let's Go Brandon.

Four years ago, Democrats had the edge on who seemed more concerned about the "average Americans' economic well-being." 35% of the public said that Democrats seemed unconcerned about the average Americans' economic well-being, compared to 40% of the public saying that about Republicans.

That's now flipped.

Specifically, just 23% say the Democrats in Congress are very concerned with looking out for the economic well-being of average Americans while at the other end of the spectrum 47% say the Democrats are not really concerned. Similarly, just 20% say the Republicans in Congress are very concerned with average Americans' financial status versus 42% who say the Republicans are not really concerned about it.

So the numbers have changed from 35% of the public thinking the Democrats don't care about the average Americans' well-being to 47%. Whereas with Republicans, it went from 40% to 42%.

The edge is now reversed -- Republicans have a five point lead on the issue where they used to have a five point deficit.

"The GOP advantage on the economic concern question is not large as a percentage, but Democrats had a similarly small edge on this metric in 2018 and ended up gaining 41 House seats," said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.

The public feels the same way about Brandon.

The poll finds that opinion of how much the president is concerned about the average American is no better than views of the two congressional parties. Specifically, just 30% feel Biden is very concerned with looking out for the economic well-being of average Americans. On the other hand, nearly half (47%) of the public feels he is not really concerned.

It's rare that Republicans outnumber Democrats. This is one of those rare times.

Just 24% of Americans feel the country is headed in the right direction. Another warning sign for the party in power is a shift in self-reported partisan affiliation. Currently, 26% of American adults identify themselves as Democrats, a number that ranged from 30% to 34% in Monmouth polling throughout last year. Republican identifiers currently stand at 31% of the population, which is up from a range of 23% to 27% in 2021. Moreover, when these numbers are combined with independents who say they lean toward either party, Republicans (51%) have a decided advantage over Democrats (41%).

Brandon's disapproval rate went up to a new high, jumping a substantial 4%:

Screenshot (1367).png

As to preference for control of Congress, Republicans lead 35-33. But, when those who say it "doesn't matter" who controls Congress are pressed to say who they lean to are included, Republicans' advantage surges to 50-43.

controlofcongressmonmouth.png

Actually RCP says the advantage is +8 so it's probably something like 50.4 to 42.5.

Screenshot (1370).png

Are people finally done with Wokeness?

Or is this only based on temporary conditions, covid and inflation?

Let's Go Brandon theme song by Loza Alexander. I'm always in the mood for this song after some good news. He's kind of like a tatted-up, sleazy conservative-leaning Will Smith.

3 Sounds like a great opportunity for someone to take up the mantle of the Republican Party and tell the country what they're signing up for.

Just, please don't be Kevin McCarthy or Mitch McConnell. "Tax cuts for corporations and no tariffs on China," aren't all that emotionally resonant.

Perhaps, "Fuck the left to death with a tire iron"?

Well, assuming polls are accurate and people have flipped, the bigger question is if they flip, do they flip every two to four years or will they at some point wake the hell up and stop flipping? Will they at some point realize while the GOP is useless the Democrats are absolute nuclear waste cancer?

Probably a little of both. What people tend to favor most is *stability*. They want some assurance that tomorrow is going to be more or less like today. They don't like rapid change (what we are seeing now) or wild swings from one end of the spectrum to another. That's one reason why the culture war has been so successful. I don't think we're anywhere close to a paradigm break of Republicans vs. Democrats. For the foreseeable future, it's just going to be the two main parties that have been fighting it out since the 1850s.

So, hopefully the GOP becomes less useless in the near future.

There's a meat pie called a bierock that is essentially soft pretzel dough stuffed with hamburger, cabbage, and a few spices like pepper and garlic then baked. You will not find them anywhere in the world outside of OK, KS, and NE. But they are so good. Good with beer and a little dark mustard. They came over with immigrants from Prussia. Some people compare them with pierogies but I've never had that so I wouldn't be able to compare. If you ever have the opportunity to try one I'd suggest it or go for one of the recipes online.

I strongly suspect the latter, but the longer it goes on the more that might change. If things keep being bad while they keep bleating about "equity" and "racism" and other such bullshit, more people will stop and ask themselves, "why the hell are they worried about that when I can't buy orange juice or cat food?"

So for right now, my bet is on "temporary conditions" (we hope they're temporary, anyway) but the longer those conditions persist, the less tolerance there will be for the noisy bullshit that doesn't help solve change those conditions for the better.

But once the FNM wing of the commiecrat party has an individual to vilify for any specific election the outlook for the D(s) increases quite a bit. So I've become cynical. LIVs get burned over and over voting the way HW and the FNM talkers prefer but at most they wise up for one election if the R is personable and has excellent ads. And then the LIVs return to taking voting advice from commie perverts.

96 Ace, while it's great to see Dumocraps and Joey Mudbrain with terrible polling, I'm not as optimistic as you (and many others like Kurt Schlicter) that it means what you think it means.

First, a material portion of the bad polling is left-wing shitbirds who are upset with Mudbrain and the Dums that they haven't lurched the country fast or far enough to the left. The freeloading "cancel student debt" cockroaches are particularly vocal about being upset that student debt hasn't been canceled. Ditto the "Squad" type fuglies who want full-on communism. Why does this matter? Because this is dragging Mudbrain's and Dums, polling down, but it doesn't represent votes for the GOP.

Second, does voting matter any more? While I'm encouraged by some of the measures being taken to prevent the drunken-sailor-on-shore-leave fraud of 2020, we still have not seen a single post-2020 election that has been secure. Youngkin managed to beat the fraud, but Murphy won NJ with the usual after-midnight mysteriously-found ballots. NJ was stolen right under our noses after we were already bitten in the balls in 2020. Why do we expect 2022 or 2024 to be any different?

110 For the most part, the public is not 'dumb' per se. Most of them have outcome preferences--like not to be robbed, be able to own a car, have their kids educated, not have to deal with a smelly insane bum on their doorstep, feel good about themselves, disliking riots, etc.

They just do not have the information to determine which government policies will bring about those policy outcomes. But, they can acquire a dislike for government policies pretty easily--dislike of inflation, etc. and thus most voters vote based on personal issues when times are bad--easier to just chuck out the lot of them than determine which policies are good and which are bad.

There is probably a hard cap of about 30-35 percent of the population that personally benefits from what the Dems are selling-govt employees, contractor grifters, finance grifters, etc. There is probably a similar cap of 30-35 percent of the population that does not benefit and hates those that do. The battle is for the middle third.

A Fox News reporter somehow scored an interview with one of the moderators of r/antiwork, who is a thirty-year-old male(?) who works twenty hours a week walking dogs (but would like to work less), and lives in exactly the sort of apartment that you would expect him to live in.

Watch this - I promise you this will be the funniest three and a half minutes of your day.

He got clean and sober, got religion (which one, I'm not really sure, but he leans into an odd mix of Christian/Hindu) and I don't think he cares about Hollywood one bit. All his videos and podcasts are about listening to all the sides, being polite in disagreements and remembering that we are all human and treat each other with respect and dignity. He has almost 5 million subscribers, so he is making enough to buy his vegan groceries. And not a few are conservatives.

I couldn't stand him early in his career, but I find myself clicking on his videos almost daily now. Shocking.

Betcha many of you didn't know the Trump Tariffs were still in effect over a year into Brandon. Somehow, that "threat to our Democracy" stopped being a threat once the election was stolen.

safety vs. freedom

kids tend to feel more insecure in general. There's a reason why they are trying to infantilize the world. The safety enculturation of the last several decades has had a big impact on people being willing to discount freedom. Lack of belief in eternal life, discounts the virtues, and overvalues avoidance of risk.

Its the diabolical master plan.

312 Trudeau is going into isolation before all those wrong think truckers show up...

So what? The protest means diddly to POLITICIANS if Biden doesn't rescind the USA vaccine mandate for truckers, also.

As the convoy approached Winnipeg a large group of Hutterites went to the Flying J truck stop with 100s of hot meals in trailers to serve the convoy. The RCMP and Flying J blocked the truckers from stopping so the Hutterites followed the convoy thru to Ontario to give them the meals.

313 >>Actually I can see a party like that getting 100% support.

Then how come they had to cheat wildly in 2016 and still almost lost the House? Why did try so desperately to unconstitutionally change election laws to guarantee them control in perpetuity?

Without mass mail in cheating the Democrats would have lost the House, Senate and president in 2016. They got smoked in VA last fall which many here said was impossible and came close to losing in NJ which would have been an earthquake.

The myth of Democrat popularity is largely that, a myth. They just have a much bigger megaphone.

The NJ maps are being litigated in the NJ Supreme Court.

While the NJ Supreme Court is left-leaning, the "independent" member of the redistricting commission that cast the key vote for the Democrat map basically bungled the reasons why (he said that both the Democrat and Republican maps were good, but he voted for the Democrat map because the Republican map was chosen last time -- that's basically the definition of being arbitrary).

It's put them in a tough spot. By all metrics I've seen, the Republican map is better on all the criteria to be evaluated.

Not getting hopes up (its NJ), but if the Court puts in the Republican map, things will get dicier for the Dems.

Looking at teens and young 20-somethings, I'd say the future looks more "progressive", and this is a temporary setup in the left's long march to domestic tyranny.

Hope I'm wrong.

499 Manchin is still a Democrat, we should have no illusions about that. In fact, if Manchin had switched sides and joined the GOP, he would now be as big a pain in the ass to us as he is to the Democrats, so it's just as well he stays where he is. Unless Biden nominates a complete lunatic (always a possibility) Manchin will vote to confirm.

Our play here is not to block the nominee completely (we can't), but to make the process take enough time that the Democrats are not able to come up with a BBB 2.0 plan, which some are talking about now.

Posted by: Syracuse1989 at January 27, 2022 02:59 PM (exm8+)

513 @ Kurt

That's probably correct. There's a weird disconnect in the electorate. Voters overwhelmingly prefer what Democrats CLAIM TO BE. There's no appeal among the broad majority for Kevin McCarthy or Mitch McConnell. Even Trump was disliked by many who voted for him twice out of pure exasperation at the cozy two-party corruption in DC.

But what happens every time is they see how Democrats actually govern and they think "this isn't what I signed up for! You never said you were going to inflate my currency, be ineffective against covid, prolong mandates and closures, empty grocery shelves, a declining stock market, slowing job growth, and one foreign policy failure after another." They think somehow that if Joe Biden (or whichever empty suit you fill in the blank with) governed as he campaigned, that things would be fine. No trump, no embarassing conversations at coctail parties, no mean tweets. They don't get that the Democrat Party is above all else a party of grifters and liars who hate what America stands for. I'll say to Schumer's face. I'll say it Tammy Duckworth's face. I'll say it to Dick Durbin. I'll spit it into Nancy Pelosi's. But people dont' get it.
