The Morning Report - 1/26/22

whataboutrapaport.jpg

Good morning, kids. Wednesday and I just have to laugh. Many years ago in my show business days, I had the distinct displeasure of encountering Michael Rapaport. To describe him as a crude lowlife is insulting to crude lowlifes. What made it worse was his insufferable egomania. But, as the song goes, "that's entertainment." As with most no-talent has-beens, when your 15 minutes is up, you still crave that spotlight like a penniless Skid Row alkie craves his own vomit. Like such other glittering gems of self-inflated vanity, Debra Messing and Alyssa "Cookie" Milano to name just two, Rapaport has spent the past decade or so spewing truly horrendous profanity and invective at anyone and anything that is non-Leftist, in a desperate attempt to remain recognizable, if not relevant.

So, Monday, Rapaport walked into a drug store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and was shocked - SHOCKED! - at what he witnessed.

In the video posted to his Instagram on Monday, Michael Rapaport films the masked thief casually walking through the front door past the security guard while carrying several bags loaded with stolen goods in broad daylight.

"I can't believe I'm seeing this shit!" the True Romance star exclaims in the video. "He's walking down the street like shit is Gucci, he looked me in the face like 'what's good.' I was watching him the whole time! My man just went Christmas shopping in January . . . "

. . . "These criminals know there are no ramifications. We have to put more of these motherfuckers in jail," he said. "You see all these videos on Instagram of people shoplifting like they're going for a walk in the park. 'It's pathetic that this is happening in the greatest city in the world."

The security guard seen in the video allegedly told Rapaport that the Rite Aid on 81st Street and 1st Avenue has been robbed on almost a daily basis and will be closing on February 15 along with 63 other locations due to the spike in thefts.

Michael Rapaport blamed the spike on former New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio for his soft-on-crime stance hoped that Mayor Eric Adams will change course.

"I think Eric Adams knows what's going on, he knows how to deal with crime. I'm just hoping he lives up to our expectations," he said.

Rapaport lamented that he relies on the neighborhood Rite Aid for his mood stabilizers and will have to travel further to another pharmacy now that the location will be closing due to theft.

RUFKM?! Where to even begin? First of all, how absolutely stupid do you have to be to actually film someone who is no more than a few feet away from you and glaring right in your face while committing a crime? He's damned lucky this goof didn't pull out a shiv and jam it in his eye. But that's beside the point.

What is galling in the extreme is his incredulity at all of this. Meh, he's a recovering alcoholic and admittedly on prescription mood stabilizers. But his violent, pornographic rants against people like Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani and even Melania Trump cannot be blamed on chemicals and booze. No doubt he supported BLM in the wake of George Floyd's death while resisting arrest. That makes his rant about the lawlessness in NYC risible given his protestations over what happened to George Floyd which we now know, regardless of the optics of the knee on his neck, was caused by Floyd's drug abuse and poor health.

Surely, while Minneapolis and scores of other cities were burned out and looted - including Rapaport's beloved "greatest city in the world," where the hell was he and his Instagram account? Where was he when Andy Ngo got a hate-shake to the head or when Kyle Rittenhouse had to use deadly force to save his own skin in the act of preventing the wanton destruction in Kenosha?

Meh, I'm conflicted; should I be so hard on Rapaport? After all he is speaking the truth here and it's not to the best of my knowledge a one-off; he went after Titty-Caca Cortez for her hideous, insulting "Tax the Rich" dress and more importantly her blaming gun violence in 2020 on people supposedly having to steal bread to survive. I guess the question is, is there really such a thing as being "red-pilled?" We broached this very subject yesterday vis a vis the vaccine and mask mandates, among other things. While I must say, I was heartened by the scales seeming to fall from some peoples' eyes, I'm brought back to earth by the fact that some still don't quite get it. Rapaport included. The fact that he blames DeBolshevik is spot on, but voting for Eric Adams thinking that he's going to bring NYC back to the glory days of Rudy Giuliani - who Rapaport went after with a cruel and disgusting vengeance in the wake of the 2020 election theft - is yet another example of doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result.

One has to wonder what Rapaport thinks about communist NYC DA Alvin Bragg who is openly telling his staff that he will not be prosecuting violent criminals. Or even this charming NYC pol:

Cops blasted the Democratic socialist city lawmaker for looping together the two slain officers with their alleged murderer. "How could she mention a coward, cold-blooded murderer in the same sentence as two heroes," said a Bronx cop.

"I find it very disturbing to see the perp's name in the same sentence as the two heroes who are not even buried yet," said a Brooklyn detective.

A Manhattan cop added: "She put the names of our dead cops with their killer in the same breath she wishes condolences." Jordan couldn't be reached for comment on Tuesday night.

The council member also created an uproar on Friday night for tweeting concerns over a community garden just two hours after the deadly shooting in her district.

Yeah, Eric Adams is going to save the day. If you believe that, I have a few bridges over the East River you can have cheap. Unless they've already been shoplifted. (Link is at Frontpagemag.com, "Enter Valerie" - Pixy doesn't like accent marks - jjs)

Catching up on these latest developments in the French presidential race, I realized that the situation sounded oddly familiar. Why? Then it came to me: the face-off between Pecresse and Zemmour brought to mind the recent mayoral contest in my hometown of New York, a city that in the last couple of years, under the poisonous reign of the vile socialist Bill de Blasio, has gone to hell in a handbasket faster than anyone could ever have imagined. The Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa, seemed the perfect choice to clean things up: he's spent his adult life as the outspoken, often obstreperous, but undeniably brave and dedicated leader of the Guardian Angels, a non-profit volunteer organization whose members walk the streets and ride the subways to protect innocent citizens from violent thugs. But whom did New Yorkers elect? Eric Adams, a Democratic hack whose promises to restore law and order never rang true and who began to break them the day he was sworn in.

I hope I'm wrong, but Pecresse appears to me to have every sign of being a French version of Eric Adams - cynically campaigning on positions she doesn't really believe in and making promises she has no intention of keeping. Why do voters - in France, New York, or anywhere else - keep getting bamboozled by such people, especially in a time when so much is dependent upon their decisions?

I guess old habits and old prejudices/perceptions die hard. While Bill Maher and Bari Weiss may be blind squirrels, they seem to be finding more and more nuts these days. As execrable and loathsome as Michael Rapaport may have been, he has been speaking some truths that are not going to ingratiate him with the hard left crowd. And for an actor whose career, such as it is, is on the downslope, that is an invitation to career suicide.

If someone like David Horowitz, who was in with the Weathermen and whose parents were card carrying Communists, can become one of the strongest voices for freedom and liberty, perhaps there's hope for someone like Michael Rapaport. And millions more people who are less strident in their views. I guess it will take a little more time.

Posted by: sven at January 26, 2022 07:28 AM (Lzpvj)

In my earlier screed on that thread, a chief cause of failure is due to us mistakenly thinking that people have honest intentions. Self-interest without an Imago Dei world-view is dystopian and highly corrosive. You can't tell me that the "self-interest" in Big Tech overlords is benevolent in any way except to their cronies (who if a buck could be made, would throw them under the bus too)

The original Capitalism = Greed claims from hippies and ne're do wells was based on them being out of power and projecting their Life-Unworthy-Of-Life world view on to every single CEO and corporate leader without distinction.

They communicate in terms that they understand, and that is the amoral By Any Means Necessary principle. Self-interest, by the amoral, places power, brutality and sex with children above most other objectives.

When, for God's sakes, do we stop parroting this line that the Left wants or values "equal results?"

That is the last thing it wants. Nor does it unselectively care about "harm prevention."

It wants unequal results and harm infliction.

It wants power for itself and subjugation if not destruction for all who oppose it. Period.

While I generally despise Legal Eagle on YT, he does a good rundown on how Taylor Swift pulled a legal trick and got her rights back from her former record company. Basically there are copyrights to the song and copyrights to the recording. She had the song copyrights, but not the recordings of her first few albums. She simply re-recorded the albums. And there ain't a damn thing her former label can do about it.

It never blew up before. People have been warning the Left that their ideas are bad and will result in poverty, crime, violence and despair. These warnings have been flowing for generations now.

And that is likely a part of the problem. Those warnings never came true. They did by degrees and things got slowly worse, too slowly to pin on one thing or one problem or one choice. But even as they got worse, they got worse within the margins of the system and the system could survive it. Now we're breaking through those margins. Whether those margins collapse remains to be seen.

I almost don't blame them for ignoring the warnings. And then I remember that they are men and can think and were just like any con man: trying to put one over on people. Unlike the comparatively-honest con man, though, they are also trying to put one over on themselves.

Cities are becoming more like Philadelphia. Philly surprised me when I went there because it was so different from other major cities. In most cities, there are good parts of town, marginal parts of town and bad parts of town - and the good outweigh the bad. Most cities are seas of good (or good+marginal) with islands of bad.

Philly is not like that. In Philadelphia, it was inverted and distributed. Philly changes block by block. You can go from good to awful to okay to good to awful to murdered to okay merely by crossing a few streets.

131 It never blew up before. People have been warning the Left that their ideas are bad and will result in poverty, crime, violence and despair. These warnings have been flowing for generations now.

Another example is the death sprint to Climate Change. There were more red flags to this than a Soviet era May Day parade.

We are now at the place where the grid is so hopelessly compromised with "renewables", plus no real investment in thermal energy (gas, coal, nuke) in the past decade or so, plus the deliberate destruction of existing infrastructure (eg. dismantling nukes before expiration, stopping the Michigan pipeline).

We are literally going into an age of Darkness. India and China are still chugging along, but the West has decided to commit suicide. No energy, no industry, no wealth.

Without energy, there is no industry. Forever reliant on countries that can lay a siege on the West in the blink of an eye. Got a headache? No industry in the former US makes it, totally dependent on China. They can and have slowed the sales into the former US and it is not possible for us to resume manufacture of aspirin.

Now multiply this by everything.

142 "Philly is not like that. In Philadelphia, it was inverted and distributed. Philly changes block by block. You can go from good to awful to okay to good to awful to murdered to okay merely by crossing a few streets."

Baltimore is exactly the same way.

Little Italy sets across the street from some of the most run down and violent areas of the city.

The Inner Harbor is less than two blocks from the same thing.

Yet for decades these areas were an oasis of safety in a sea of predatory violence. Strong rumors and court records associated the relative safety of Little Italy to a strong organized crime presence, ensuring safety for tourists and restaurant goers.
The Inner Harbor was heavily patrolled by city Police, as much of the cities tourist dollars were generated there.

Now?
Somebody is declaring war on those areas, and the organizations which provided safety to the community.

166 Being unable to talk to their teachers is probably a vital component to pulling them back from the brink. The teachers were probably instrumental in grooming these kids into this condition.
_____________

Whatever happened to learning about sex and cultural taboos from your friends? In years past, you talked to the teacher if you had a problem with long division or diagramming sentences. If you wanted to know something about sex or you were trying to figure out how to fit in better with other kids or had some problem like that, you talked to your friends. If you were so screwed up that you had no friends, you could talk to the school psychologist.

When did school teachers become psychiatrists and start counseling kids on their emotional problems? This seems very ill-advised. Most school teachers are barely qualified in the subject matter they're teaching; they certainly are not qualified to counsel troubled kids about sex or surgical options for changing gender or suicide prevention, etc.

283 I've said this before, but regarding the hellish situation in NYC, I don't place (all) the blame on De Blasio, or even ineffective Eric Adams. I blame Mike Bloomberg.

Giuliani, even though he had a shambolic personal life, and a tumultuous relationship with his subordinates, was the perfect mayor for a disintegrating NYC in the 90s. Bloomberg, while a brilliant businessman, was at best an adequate manager of a city that Giiuliani restored by the force of his personality.

At any time during De Blasio (who was always honest about who he was), Bloomberg could have weighed in on what was happening to the city where his immense fortune is based. He had the gravitas to mobilize real reform from without. Instead, he was silent. Trump was a bigger problem for him than the destruction in his own backyard. This is on Bloomberg as much as anyone else.

Why?

Posted by: rickb223 at January 26, 2022 09:15 AM (uXonU)

378 Just by the evidence of the story itself, it's notable that "Moses" is a name from Ancient Egyptian, not Hebrew. (or proto-habiru, or whatever language they were speaking) If you were inventing a story, it's an odd name to give your greatest leader.

You also have internal consistency. For example, how exactly would Moses have access to The Book of Adam for the genealogy and narrative of the antediluvian age?

I submit that Noah and company brought with them artifacts of their age on the Ark, post Babylon those materials found their way to Egypt and likely within the Pharaoh's household. Behold! God made a way for a Hebrew slave to have full access to the antediluvian treasures by being adopted into the family.

I would love to know what language the Book of Adam was written in - prototype of Hebrew? During the confounding of languages, the line through Abraham preserved the original?

382 A white man in the U.K. caught a suspected serial burglar in his Bristol neighborhood, grabbed him and knelt on his back for nine minutes while waiting for police to arrive. The suspect twice complained that he could not breathe, to which the man replied "I don't give a shit." In court testimony, the man said he didn't believe the suspect's complaints, and thought he was just faking so that he could escape.

The suspect was hospitalized and died of cardiopulmonary arrest two weeks later. The post-mortem found diazepam and methadone in his blood, and also a pre-existing heart condition.

The man who caught the suspected burglar was tried for manslaughter. A medical expert testified that the suspect would have had a better chance of surviving if he had been allowed to sit up or roll over once he started complaining of difficulty breathing. The jury deliberated for 4 hours, then acquitted the back-kneeler. It is still not known if the dead man was actually the neighborhood burglar or just an innocent victim.

There won't be any world-wide protests or riots or statues erected for this victim, because he was . . . white.

And drama queens. People who say they "contemplated suicide" are like people who issue death threats - The ones who are serious about it just do it. The verbal ones just want attention.

445 Rappaport was in a season of Justified. He played a dude from Louisiana but only attempted an accent a quarter of the time.

He's such a waste.

Will Rapaport find that the problems of two little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this old world? Who knows, if you bump into him again, maybe it could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

453 I'm just wondering how you "threaten the power grid"

I was once accused of it while foraging for black raspberries at the edge of a forest near a power-line field (the long-distance ones.) The asshole cop accused me of being "one of them crazy right-wing survivalists" and noted my Winchester cap. I was wearing generic tan hiking pants and an Under Armor t-shirt. Nothing "survivalist" about me other than wearing a cap advertising one of America's great firearm companies, and collecting raspberries, which is very common for people to do in that area.

The ass said he was concerned about me being a "terrorist" who was "doing something funny near them there power lines."

Doubtful I run into him again. He'd have to get on his knees and issue a public sincere apology to everyone on our side he's ever slimed.

Still, I'll take him going after lefties, clueless or not.

460 I think wings of angels = vocabulary at the time to indicate something inexplicable or very difficult to describe. Genesis 6:4 mentions some very strange stuff. I lean towards inter dimensional beings, UFOS and powers and principalities of the air.

462 Rappaport can piss up a rope. There are occasionally people who have a come-to-Jesus conversion when it comes to Left-Wing politics. I can think of two: David Horowitz and Thomas Sowell.

But it's genuinely rare. Leftism provides a basis for so many things that feel good, that satisfy. Self-righteousness, the belonging to cause, the excuse to hate people you resent, the behavioral freedom that comes with believe there is no God. The belief that you're owed something. They don't give that up. Instead, they have occasional "moments of clarity" as addicts describe it. They hit bottom or glimpse it, and think "man, this is fucked up" but inevitably they'll return to the bottle or the needle.

It's like these women voters who are shocked to discover Biden isn't a nice guy. They'll return to the fold in the next election cycle as the media strokes their egos and tells them how enlightened, and moderate, and caring they are for voting democrat.

Posted by: SMFH at January 26, 2022 01:27 PM (u/7wY)

463 The old saw "people tend to be liberal when it's other people's money being spent, and conservative when it's theirs" seems to hold true, yet again, only instead of "money" it's "consequences".

It's easy to dictate to others how things should be, when those changes don't effect you, directly. The laptop class, behind their gated community security fences, don't give two hot shits about this sort of thing until their gates get broken down, and then it's "won't somebody DO SOMETHING??!!!"

Never seem to understand that somebody DID do something. It was them that did something, when they created the problem in the first place.

Posted by: Goober at January 26, 2022 06:47 PM (Hgvgt)

464 Furthermore, I'm a little amused to consider the recent hue and cry about "food deserts" in urban communities. One wonders why shop owners would be reticent to open a shop in a community that has tacitly legalized blatant theft like this.

Mark my words, you heard it here first: within the next year, we'll be reading lots more stories about the injustice of "food deserts" and now "drug store deserts" in the same urban communities that made policing petty crimes essentially illegal.

The short-sighted, "that's tomorrow's problem" thinking that leads to looting stores until they close in your own neighborhood, is only rivaled by the short-sighted, "that's tomorrow's problem" thinking on the left.

We have to do away with this idea that people are inherently good and will choose to do the right thing if given a chance. The majority of people are. There's a substantial minority that simply aren't, and people on the political left need to recognize that.

Posted by: Goober at January 26, 2022 06:52 PM (Hgvgt)

465 And finally, I am not suggesting that we need to accept police brutality, and the tendency to escalate at all costs from the police. We can address that problem without just hand-waving away crime and accepting that as a part of life.

You absolutely can have it both ways. You can enforce the law without murdering people for petty crimes. Police reform is absolutely necessary. But essentially "deleting" petty crime laws from the books by choosing not to enforce them is corrosive to civilization.

Laws, and law enforcement, exist in no small part to actually PROTECT the criminals. Allowing crime to run rampant absolutely WILL NOT reduce the death toll, it just won't be cops killing these people.

In a world where the police won't protect a person and their property, lots of folks are happy to do it themselves, in their own way. This creates a far less "safe" environment for petty criminals than we ever had even in the absolute WORST days of bad policing.
