  • Just want to make it clear that the crew of The Incomparable network are definitely probably not communists and their D&D podcast Total Party Kill in particular is great fun.

Unless they've switched to 5e in which case I will be duty bound to declare it anathema. Honestly it's been all downhill since they removed level names.

  • Also, Tucows is still not dead.

  • This way to the egress: Save 99% on your Amazon Cloudfront bill with this one simple trick! (Fleet)

    Don't use Cloudfront.

In this case Fleet reduced their monthly bandwidth expenses from $2457 to $41 by delivering content from German hosting platform Hetzner rather than directly from AWS. Amazon - and Google and Microsoft and IBM - charge absurd rates for bandwidth.

I posted an item not long ago about Amazon reducing their bandwidth charges except that I couldn't find the price reductions listed anywhere. Turns out the reason is that there was no reduction.

They increased the limit of the free tier, but all the paid tiers remained exactly the same. Instead of the first dose being free, now the first two doses are free.

I remember thinking "are those any good, how to compare with real hams". There were all these hams hanging from the branches. I figured I'll check the internet on that.

Then I got a parking spot at KFC, except there was this weird slick walkway entrance, 2 stories high, with no guardrails. I was thinking "this must be terrible in the winter" and sure enough somebody slipped and fell going in and got smashed up in the parking lot. Even rumors of very old folk remembering taking a spoon full of 'coal oil', which would have been kerosene, I believe.

On the other hand, our cat's hairball remedy from the vet contains petroleum jelly as an ingredient.

My ex was odd, I found out she was having my daughter eat a dab of Vicks Vapo Rub when she was putting it on her chest.

I doubt it's harmful because the petroleum is inert and passes through the body without being changed or absorbed. But what's therapeutic value of VapoRub in the stomach?

Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at January 25, 2022 06:42 AM (/U27+)

99 Mineral oil was used for constipation, maybe still is. Vaseline isn't going to hurt anything. I don't see the point though.

What was Vick's Vapo Rub good for? Other than Mom's were expected to rub some on our chest or something.

My Mom was an old school RN. Couldn't fake her out for anything. If she was worried, then we knew for certain we were sick, however.

Yes I do. But drivers here in Da Swamp have always been bad, and driving instruction non-existent. When I got ready for my license (1976) and asked for study materials for the written test, the clerk blinked at me. "Y'wanna study for it?" On the driving test, the employee sent me around a quiet neighborhood block or two, right turn, left turn, stop here, go, you passed, $25 please. No parking or highway merging, oh, no. Annual safety inspection is a wink-wink joke, too.

Actual *citizens* are not much better at handling their vehicles than the illegals, and sometimes worse.
