The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“Well, what I heard was what Joe Biden said loud and clear, which is he is already making excuses for why he is going to lose in November . . . That’s what this is all about. Democrats don’t accept elections that they don’t win. I mean, it happened in 2000. It happened in 2004. It happened in 2016. Now, it’s going to be 2022.” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO)

Quote II

“When a channel receives a strike, it is against our Terms of Service to post content or use another channel to circumvent the suspension,” an unnamed YouTube spokesperson

Quote III

“God has been with me from the beginning. My connection with God has grown way stronger. I pray to him every day. He’s helped me through so much and he’s helped open the doors and guide me in the right direction.” Kyle Rittenhouse

The problem with subjective awards is often there is no objectivity.

A Cooperstown With David Ortiz but No Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens Is a Farce
Members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America who voted for Ortiz but not Bonds or Clemens should be investigated for voter fraud

Out of a group of steroid-aided star sluggers including Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa, ex-Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is the only one who ever tested positive for using performance-enhancing drugs during his playing days.

Ortiz, who has consistently denied ever using steroids despite a 2009 report from The New York Times that his name was included in baseball’s Mitchell Report for testing positive for PEDs in 2003, is also now the only member of that group who was deemed worthy for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Spotify Removing Neil Young's Music After Tantrum Over Joe Rogan 'Misinformation'

Streaming music service Spotify is in the process of removing Neil Young's music, depriving tens of fans access to the 76-year-old's song library on the platform.

Young, whose biggest hit, "Heart of Gold" came out 50 years ago, threw a temper tantrum earlier in the week over podcaster Joe Rogan, who the aging rocker says was spreading "fake information" about vaccines.

As of 7:54PM CST "Life" was still not taken down.

Man Who Sold a Gun to the Brit Who Held Four Hostage in a Texas Synagogue Has Been Charged With Federal Crimes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Man Who Sold Pistol Used in Synagogue Hostage Crisis Federally Charged
The man who sold Malik Faisal Akram the gun he used to kidnap hostages in a Texas synagogue earlier this month has been charged with a federal firearm crime, announced United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad E. Meacham.

Henry “Michael” Dwight Williams, 32, was charged Tuesday via criminal complaint with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Renée H. Toliver in the Northern District of Texas Wednesday afternoon. A detention hearing has been set for Monday, Jan. 31.

“Federal firearm laws are designed to keep guns from falling into dangerous hands. As a convicted felon, Mr. Williams was prohibited from carrying, acquiring, or selling firearms. Whether or not he knew of his buyer’s nefarious intent is largely irrelevant — felons cannot have guns, period, and the Justice Department is committed to prosecuting those who do,” said U.S. Attorney Chad E. Meacham. “We are grateful to the many officers and agents who sprang into action as soon as the synagogue hostage crisis began, and who worked tirelessly to track the weapon from Mr. Akram to Mr. Williams. The freed hostages, the Beth Israel congregation, and indeed the entire Jewish community deserve that support.

The homeless are being cleared from the Los Angeles area in close proximity to SoFi Stadium – a move that has been interpreted as masking the city’s huge problem instead of actually tackling it ahead of Super Bowl LVI.

Photos taken on Monday by TMZ near the 405 freeway, which is a couple of miles from the stadium, showed California Highway Patrol officers facilitating the removal of tents and rerouting traffic. Meanwhile, private contractors picked up items belonging to the homeless.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that officers began the cleanup operation on Monday morning.

Companies with 100 or more employees will no longer be required to have employees get vaccinated -- but they can still mandate it on their own terms. Here's what to know.

A naked man attempting to break into a house in Westminster was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 22, authorities announced.

Around 3 a.m., Westminster resident Artem Borodin Aleksandrovich, 37, tried breaking down the front door of a residence near the 6200 block of Apache Road, police said. The residents woke up to the noise and called police.

Aleksandrovich was punching and kicking the door when police arrived. He began charging at the officers when they tried to subdue him, striking one officer with a closed fist in the face before being taken into custody, according to police.

He attempted to grab a cell phone from one of the residents and broke a window panel near the front door before the homeowners were able to secure the door, residents and witnesses told police.

102 A Cooperstown With David Ortiz but No Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens Is a Farce

Members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America who voted for Ortiz but not Bonds or Clemens should be investigated for voter fraud

I understand those folks who think that if you cheat you shouldn't be in the HOF. I would have thought that myself, except that this happened. Bud Selig, who oversaw the Steroid Era in baseball - fully knowing what was going on - is in the HOF. If cheats like this can get into the Hall, then they should let everyone else in as well. Pro Baseball benefitted from all the fans that cheered the home run derbies that were taking place then.

And another thing - I really hate sports journalists, as a group. There are wonderful exceptions, but as a group it seems like they never really wanted to be on the back page of the newspaper, but instead to get on the front page. Mike Lupica was the first that I recall that had this chip on his shoulder that only being a 'real' columnist could get rid of, and I see that many other sports journalists now harbor those same aspirations. Sports suffers, and journalism suffers because of that.

The Amalur IP is back in the hands of game developers now, so you might well get your wish. Or at least a sequel. Bland story or no, it's still better than the crap put out by the likes of EA.

It's really too bad that during his creative involvement Todd McFarlane wasn't able to impart some wisdom on how to build a business that doesn't collapse. But maybe it was too late at that point.

From the root: "chanties". Chants, rendered in melody, heavy on the rhythm. So as to better synchronize work done in unison, such as hoisting sail and the like. Synchronization was deadly serious on those ships, one slip of the capstain while weighing anchor, and the crew could lose control and let it spin free, with enough force to maim or kill any unfortunate crew caught in it's bars.

The anchor windlass (capstain), is a vertical drum, around which would wind the anchor rope and/or chain, depending on each ship's rig. Powered by the crew, one or two pushing a solid ash or oaken stave (bar), which was inserted into one of several evenly spaced sockets or holes installed around the drum. Usually four bars, two crewmen pushing on each bar. Every step and nearly every breath had to be applied evenly and in synch with the others. Or, the weight of the anchor would transfer to an individual crewman, who alone, could not bear the weight. This would start a chain-reaction of all of them losing their grip on THEIR individual stave or bar, and the thing spinning out of control while the anchor plummeted back down to the seabed.

Well. No advice there. In 1985, getting into Canada was easy. Getting into Alaska was more problematic. they basically strip searched our truck. I guess Alaska was tired of young white dudes hauling weed or something. We passed muster.

I happened to be working one early Sunday morning, on deadline at the office. watched the police do homeless sweeps before the fans descended.

Most had no idea how infested, disgusting, feces filled that area was unless you lived it every day. 1990. Watched the homeless dump right on the sidewalk. Even back then. Just step over it.

I left that town after my coworker was murdered in an underground parking lot two blocks from the office. Seattle. A vile horrible place then.

Now? Hell on earth.

They smoked in the dugout and drank after games, and except for the biggest of the big, had off season jobs. Steroids were just another tool to be used to maximize potential earnings.

425 I spoke today with one of redc1c4's friends IRL. He didn't have a lot of information, but he was able to tell me that red was found in the shower, presumably died of a heart attack, not long after Thanksgiving. He was 62.

I haven't heard back from Resident 3vil, as he called her, and I don't expect to. She's been very private and apparently hasn't responded to any of his friends. So, no information on any kind of memorial or even anything at legacy.com, which is a shame.

If I find out anything else, I'll share here on the ONT.

Just for you, I think I managed to find the procedures:
To access the comments on an old thread, you have to fiddle around with the URL. So for example, MisHum's last pet thread, if you look in the archives, has this URL:
http://ace.mu.nu/archives/397060.php#397060
If you want to actually see the comments, you have to make a new URT that looks like this:
http://acecomments.mu.nu/?post=397060
I figured this out a while back by looking at a current thread (such as the one we are on) and seeing how the URL was different from an archived thread, then changing it manually to make it match everything except the actual post number.
I think this works, but I guarantee NOTHING!

Well, try to get her some ivermectin, and/or HCQ, and some zinc supplement.

Over the past two weeks, I have had two close encounters with folks symptomatic with Omicron. Each time, I came back to the shack, and popped an Ivermectin pill. I have not caught the Omicron. Did the Ivermectin prevent me being infected, or was I never going to catch Omicron anyway? All I know is that the IVM didn't not work.

497 483, caligirl, I had same experience. I took quercetin for years along w d3 as anti inflammatories and added airborne supplement which has vitamin c and zinc. Since last coof infection, cannot tolerate that right now due to reflux due to antibiotics. Post coof sinus infection also makes antihistamines a no no.

You can search antihistamines and covid, but many sites will WARN you against using antihistamines to treat Covid.

You know, because then you might treat, get better, and get on with your life. God help our "betters" if that happens.

Keep digging. Ivermectin and HCQ aren't the only early treatments.

505 All of those treatments depend on how far along you are in the viral infection.

Early on ivermectin and zinc/HCQ are good to help prevent viral replication (also monoclonal antibodies).

After that, most of the issues like the pneumonia aren't assisted by those types of treatments because the issues are being caused by your body's own overaggressive immune response.

At that point you need anti-inflammatories, antioxidants, and something to assist with hemoglobin production.

At least that's my understanding from the reading I've done.

Nevertheless, if I were sick with the Coof, I would take Ivermectin even in the late stages, because trying something is better than doing nothing. There was a story, well-reported here, a few months ago, where a woman on a respirator in NY State, and nearly at death's door, was helped by Ivermectin. Took one course, got off the respirator, had a relapse, took another course, and got well, and was discharged.

I don't disagree.

I think that you are correct in that because your body may not have formed a sufficient antibody response, especially at an advanced age. So viral replication may still be occurring.

That's what you see in the sepsis patients. But the COVID pneumonia has to be treated with different methods. As mentioned by Mamma upthread with her father, it's possible to be having both uncontrolled infection and carry-on symptoms simultaneously.

525 More progress on the Jeep. Met the seller at the third-party MVD shop, and got the title transferred, and a permanent plate is on its way. Changed the oil and filter. Bought a new oil pressure sending unit, and the special socket to install it, and got the new sending unit installed. That did not fix the oil pressure gauge. But mostly rules out the cause as a bad sending unit, I guess. Could be wire harness, could be the ECM, could be the gauge cluster. Next step is probably to get a scan tool on the data port.

600 Debbie Doberman.

Now ain't the time for baking experiments? Instead, buy all the canned dinner rolls and other bake-ready breads, rolls and muffins as you can find, buy and freeze.

Thawing time is crazy short on these, and you're hot out of the oven, soon after. Save the baking experiments for when it's NOT a crisis, okay? (it's more fun then, anyway!)

620 Good night, Jim!

Garret is right, Debbie - if you have a digital scale, better to weigh the flour. 1 cup=4.5 oz. But of course, kneading incorporates more flour and that isn't measured. You go by feel at that point. I used to knead until the dough took up all of the flour and didn't stick to the board.

I'll send you a text and you'll have my number.
