170 People just don't do this anymore, at least not around me. It's ironic. It used to cost big, big bucks to get a painting done, back in the day. Then we figured out photography. But still, even though it was cheaper, everyone used to put on their best stuff to do a group pose in a studio. And those prints were handed down like valued antiques.

Now ? Nobody cares. Hell, I don't care. And before folks start chiming in with the typical screed about the progs killing the nuclear family, let me get my counter in here. Progs seems good at killing shit that nobody really wants. But they weren't able to stop college football during the 'Rona. Because people really wanted that.

Family bonds - not so much. And again, its not like I'm all that fond of half of my siblings, a good part of my elders, and one of my own kids. Hence, why this painting caught my attention. Because it shows all the disparity, in one image, of family. And frankly, how forced the gatherings usually are.

They did not see how much dominion was going to make a difference by the Dems being able to reset the vote count with new ballots being run thru.

Face it we all weren't shocked that the dems cheated but we were surprised at the extent of the cheat and how visible it was.

I think they themselves were surprised they got away with it. And that we can lay off on the Courts for refusing to even look at the evidence of fraud and claim they couldn't for whatever reasons they made up to fit. The courts failed us as a last resort to prevent the fraud and they blamed the people for it and wouldn't do anything. I hope Roberts goes down in history as being a feckless smarmy wimp who took his marching orders from those New England Texans.

Got a vote for Governor coming up this year so it is important to get things running correctly. Glad they did this and the court went along.

Now if they can just put some teeth in the observer statute then we might be okay. Also some real penalties for failing to follow the rules and letting observers observe. Most ridiculous thing to watch them kick the observers out, the police refuse to do anything and the taping of cardboard over the windows so the observers can't even see anything going on. Right there in front of the whole world we watched them steal the election. Pitiful.

291 The painting brings my grampa to mind. Dad's dad, born Jersey City 1885, son of a carpenter that rose to elevator inspector, and an Irish immigrant mom, who arrived age 6 and alone when her uncle, the only living relative, died in the crossing, and was put into an orphanage, well, they sent him to NYU and his younger sister to Vassar.

And gramps graduates in 1906, I have his Phi Betta Kappa key, and decides to go to Europe. He packs up his view camera and developing kit, and goes to Hungary, and gets a job teaching English in some small village not far from Bucharest. He could speak Latin and German, and learned Hungarian to fluency.

He spent five years there, returned to New Jersey to teach high school chemistry, got married in 1915, and had a by-mail subscription to a Hungarian newspaper his whole life.

I have a box of his glass negatives, showing pastoral scenes of the village and farm life from around 1910 Hungary. Gramps had a skill for composition.

I wish he'd done some more portrait work. People are small figures in the scenes I have on glass.

I imagine all state governments are thoroughly corrupt. Very little oversight with most public attention going to national matters.

It's mostly a question of how well that corrupt institution actually does its core jobs of maintaining the state's proscribed responsibilities, I think, about whether it gets noticed or not.

The survey, conducted by Marquette Law School, found that 43 percent of adults nationwide would support Biden if the 2024 presidential election were held today, while 33 percent would vote for Trump in a one-on-one match-up.
Sixteen percent said they would choose a different candidate, while 6 percent said they would not vote.

In a hypothetical race against DeSantis, 41 percent of adults nationwide said they would throw their support behind Biden, while 33 percent would support DeSantis.
Eighteen percent of respondents said they would vote for a different candidate, and 8 percent said they would not cast a ballot.

Yep. As long as trash is picked up on time and businesses are allowed to prosper (more or less), state governments can do whatever they like and get away with it. The key is that the people perceive that things are functional. The more corrupt states lack that perception by the people and are therefore seen as failures.

It puts us in a difficult position given our volume of trade with Canada. It could also have knock-on effects with domestic truckers to do something similar. The big corporate fleets probably wouldn't get involved, but there are enough owner/operators to cause some pain if they do it here. Success in Canada will seriously crank up the pressure on this side of the border.

That's like saying Texas should always look to Mexican Law before changing their own. And it's a pretty convenient excuse for Trudeau to do nothing.

If the shoe were on the other foot, I would not give a damn what Canada thinks about trucker mandates in the United States. We have borders for a reason.

Depends on the state--some specifically have the modern bestiality language, others with more archaic laws have the crimes against nature language which was broad enough under common law to include anything other than straight vaginal penetrative sex.

State criminal codes vary pretty widely on language and often are used to codify past court decisions and common law where ambiguity in previous laws existed.

It is because the Uniparty elites hate this country and its citizens because it constrains what they can do. They literally believe themselves to be Supermen who actions are above mere good and evil.

Our elite institutions have promoted the self regard of these socalled elites as representing an aristocracy of talent, morals, and merit. Accordingly, anyone not of the elite is considered subhuman and inferior. So, if the great reset to save the planet for the elites requires elimination of 90 percent of the population; then it is worth it to them.

I think GHWB's reaction to Tienanmen Square and GWB's reaction to our surveillance plane being forced down to a Chinese military base indicated that.

This family also sold itself to the Saudis as well.

His campaign donors have probably told him to lay off. Maricopa Cty has a GOP majority on the county commission and so this happening was not an accident. It was intended.

My belief is that the GOPe has been playing games for years with party primaries to exclude outsiders. It is all about the grift.

Go back and look at some of their moves right after the Tea Party Wave. It's a fact. But it's not about the grift. The GOP really is a good ole boys club. They'd rather lose than accept the wrong people.

Ironically a late 1992 NYT hit story about Poppie and a floozy aide having an affair was correct and verified by later sources such as Bab's autobiography.

Both dad and son at Yale were Skull and Bones and apparently some of the ritual involves just what you say.

No, I would argue it is about the grift, look at Mitch's payoff via FIL after becoming GOP Senate leader. Look at the net value increases of the Senate Intel committee.

The simple fact is that multinational corporations see the world as flat and all politicians as rent boys. This goes from the local, to the state, to the federal level. Pence's betrayal of RFRA as governor of Indiana is an example as was Kemp's and Ducey's betrayal in Georgia. Seen it on the local level as well. The GOP campaign apparatus depends on corporate donors and candidates that are willing to play ball get the golden handshake. Those that don't best have their own funding set up like MTG, Rand Paul (and his father in the past), etc. or they will be taken out by a GOP corporate clone.

535 > You prove the phrase I say constantly - for most people, it's all about the store shelves. As long as there is shit on those shelves, you'll embrace whatever it takes to keep it that way.

My original comment about the convoy was that imo both countries would have to make concessions regarding the trucker mandate, I did not mean to suggest that the 2 countries should not protect their own sovereignty.
I want some form of success for the convoy as it is protesting MANDATORY vaccinations.
imo, That success will probably not be in the form of the mandate being reversed.

Your assumption regarding me proving your point is wrong.
