I added this as a late update to the Supreme Court mandate story, so some of you may have missed it:

Ron Klain retweeted Stephanie Ruhle commenting on the fact that Biden's OSHA mandate was a "work-around," meaning, a way to get around the pesky little fact that Biden was doing something that Congress had not authorized and therefore was without legitimacy and was an illegal presidential action.

Justices Alito and Gorsuch both referenced Ron Klain's admission-against-interest that he knew he was executing a "work-around" the law and the Constitution in their reasoning for upholding the injunction against the OSHA mandate.

Heckuva job, Acting President Klain.

I intended to include this in the filibuster story but couldn't find it when I needed it (I literally have 300+ open tabs).

Any reason why Kamala Harris -- Who was put in charge of voting rights -- was not with the president on his trip to Capitol Hill today?

Well she delivered so hard on fixing the border...

This might be a case of Kumala refusing to out and play the sacrificial lamb for a lost cause.

A twenty-sixth Democrat House member, Ed Perlmutter of
Colorado's 7th district, has announced he's resigning. The district is D+7, which makes it technically competitive, particularly if Republican are having a big year. Which they are, of course.

Noted "Healer of America's Whole Soul" Jerkoff Brandon said that you're either on his side or George Wallace's, without disclosing that for most of his political career, he himself was on Wallace's side.

In 1975, [Jerkoff Brandon] was an undeniable fan of George Wallace. "I think the Democratic Party could stand a liberal George Wallace--someone who's not afraid to stand up and offend people, someone who wouldn't pander but would say what the American people know in their gut is right," he told the Philadelphia Enquirer.

Biden remained a fan of Wallace through the 1980s. In 1981, he praised Wallace's positions on various issues and told a black witness during a Senate committee hearing that "sometimes even George Wallace is right." Later, during his first attempt at running for president in 1987, he bragged that in 1973 Wallace considered him "one of the outstanding young politicians of America," and while campaigning in Alabama, he said, "we (Delawareans) were on the South's side in the Civil War."

Imagine if any Republican had ever said such things.

Biden also actively cozied up to Southern segregationist Democrats for help and support for his anti-busing legislation--which Kamala Harris used against him during the 2020 Democratic primary to suggest that he was a racist. Biden also praised former Ku Klux Klan "Exalted Cyclops" Robert Byrd and referred to him as a "friend," "mentor," and "guide."

Biden also opposed forced school busing, using the colorful metaphor that -- and I do quote here -- "Unless we do something here, "my children" are going to grow up in a "racial jungle."

Unless we do something about this, my children are going to grow up in a jungle, the jungle being a racial jungle with tensions having built so high that it is going to explode at some point. We have got to make some move on this.

Well isn't that just special?

A lot of leftwing propaganda organs attempt to claim that this quote "requires additional context," but no, he's against mixing white kids with black kids because it will create "a racial jungle." No one doubts what the media would say if a Republican objected to integration, and especial objected to integration using such a racially incendiary metaphor.

Even Snopes admits the quote is real and says what it says and means what it clearly means.

When even the dirty filthy weakling coward cvck NeverTrump grifter liberal Ben Sasse is calling the man he supported for president "senile," you know Brandon's got some political problems.

John McCormack
@McCormackJohn

Sasse on Biden's comment likening Republicans to Bull Connor & George Wallace: "The president of the United States called half the country a bunch of racist bigots.... He doesn't believe that. This was a senile comment of a man who read whatever was loaded into his teleprompter."

Brandon's only truly rabid fan-base were NeverTrumpers, and now they're all "distancing" themselves from him.

By the way, Sasse is absolutely beloved by the National Review crowd. If you thought they had an unseemly boycrush on Jake Tapper, you don't even want to know about their homoerotic yearnings for Ben Sasse.

They want Ben Sasse to make cvck-babies in their butts.

So I guess at National Review, it's now permissible to say that Biden is senile and bad and oh yeah we always opposed him even when we were supporting him.

Even Mark Zuckerberg is now leaving California for Texas.

Why does Texas insist on luring these very undesirable people to their state? I know they can't forbid them from coming, but they also don't have to offer special breaks to these companies to lure them, either. Especially not to bad actors like Zuckerberg.

I'm not sure that's what happened here, and searches are unavailing on this point. But that's what Rick Perry was always doing.

Moreover, there is a certain irony in Mark Zuckerberg, a stout liberal who has previously criticized Texas's politics while spending millions of dollars to influence its elections, relocating his company to the obviously better-governed state. Liberals who savage Texas for everything from its abortion laws to its handling of the COVID pandemic can't help themselves from relocating there.

Unfortunately, this also represents another troubling development. Liberals such as Zuckerberg work to create an ideological utopia in which their own companies evidently cannot survive or at least cannot thrive optimally. Then they abandon the places they helped destroy and move on to start the process all over again somewhere else.

As Agent Smith observed in The Matrix, this is the behavior pattern of a virus, not that of a mammal.

Locusts.

Never forget that Zuckerberg spent $350 million of his own money to get out the vote in the bluest of blue districts -- including in Texas -- in order to swing the election for Biden.

floridahospitalizationrate.png

As someone on Twitter pointed out: They sound genuinely saddened to hear that Florida has one of the lowest hospitalization rates in the country.

Look at the picture they chose to accompany the story-- it shows a nurse in anguish and despair over the news that DeathSantis isn't killing as many people as she'd hoped.

With COVID cases skyrocketing, Florida is experiencing one of the worst waves of the omicron variant in the United States.

Yet Florida's death rate over the past seven days is the second lowest in the country, after only Alaska. What's going on?

Even as record COVID cases in the U.S. were reported last week, deaths dipped slightly, and still, Florida's death rate is distinctly low, particularly in a state with a large, vulnerable elderly population.

Experts say several factors could explain the currently low rate: Florida's horrific toll from delta and its acquired resistance and vaccination rates may be buffering the state at a time when others states are contending with two variants. Or, because of the way Florida reports COVID deaths, which already tend to lag infections and hospitalizations, the true death rate from this recent wave may be too soon to know.

This is amazing: Fat, ugly demented Twitter-addict losers say, "People should ignore the real consequences of the Brandon presidency -- continued covid misery, soaring inflation, real wage losses, a humiliating withdrawal in Afghanistan and likely coming setbacks in Ukraine and Taiwan, soaring crime rates and soaring murder rates, chaos and incompetence at every turn, met with more division and more anger and more autocracy and authoritarianism, and instead focus on what's really important, which is supporting Brandon so I can post W's on people on Twitter!!!"

"Because that's all that matters! Me getting dunks in on my Twitter Enemies!"

59 the thing thats' really amusing is that the military didn't discharge guys cause they dressed up in dresses and such. If it got too flamboyant and if it was done on duty then they'd be disciplined and it's this lack of discipline that the discharge was for.

Also being gay wasn't necessarily a discharge offense. There would have to be direct knowledge by a witness for one thing and for another again it would have to have been done while on duty and then it was a discipline thing as you're not supposed to be having any kind of sex while on duty.

Two faculty members at Berkeley were teaching physical chemistry. One guy's course was packed, and the other guy's barely had any students. The latter complained that his course was scheduled for earlier in the morning.

MegaRoy enjoys watching the birds from his ambush hide location inside the porch. the red tailed hawk enjoys the hawk feeder that the bird feeder has created. at least once a week he gets one, usually a dove because they are too stupid to take cover and too big to fit the feeder shelf, so they just hang out and coo sadly.

I had the meatloaf plate. the two pieces were 1/2 the size they used to be, smothered in some sweet ketchup sauce (which used to be baked on the top like real meatloaf). there was maybe a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes instead of "omg, I can't eat all this" serving and the veggies were almost cooked.

184 In retrospect, the biggest disaster to befall the Democratic Party was that they "won" both Senate seats in Georgia.

Had they only taken one seat, the Senate would have been 49D-51R, and the Democrats would have had to propose a legislative program that could get at least a little bipartisan support.

Instead, with the Senate 50-50, and with Harris potentially casting the tie breaking vote, the D's convinced themselves that they had a mandate to fundamentally transform the United States, by spending trillions on the Green New Deal and much else, and by having the Federal Government seize control of local elections.

So, instead of being able to act triumphant over a series of small victories, they managed to brand themselves with an "L" for this Congress.

Excellent fire starter

-------------------

I melted old crayons down and poured them over the dryer lint. Let it cool and cut it into blocks. This fits even better in a pack, and provides a better, longer-lasting fuel for starting fires. It's an old Boy Scout trick.

I carry some of this in my laptop pack along with a boo-boo kit, Bic lighter, waterproof matches, and some basic drugs - aspirin, magnesium, and omeprazol. This is turns my laptop bag into a small "get home bag" in the case things turn ugly out there.

The drugs I keep in these little plastic tubes that are water-tight. I bought a case of "ZipFizz", which are powdered energy drinks you mix with water. The tubes they come in are completely reusable and make handy stashes for all kinds of stuff *wink wink* for if you find yourself in a survival situation.

195 I think it is important to always use the term "monetary inflation" as creditable economists always have, in order to more clearly indicate what is happening.

For decades, unscrupulous types just sort of imply that ever increasing prices or the natural order of things, or that this is a good thing in general. Don't be fooled. Even "targeted" rates of 2 percent annual that all the cool kids on Capitol hill claim are beneficial are smoking their socks. It is corrosive and punishes savers. Real rates are extremely negative and have been for a long time and create distortions in the market.

Tinder, meaning something that will catch with just sparks - dryer lint will likely leave you disappointed. And cold, wet, hypothermic.

One thing genuine firestarting exercises will teach you - never, ever, go out into the sticks without at least 3 or 4 guaranteed ways of making fire. Bic lighters, matches, are convenient but a magnesium bar to shave and a flint stick are gonna always work in the extreme. Zippos are excellent in high winds for people who smoke. 245 Frank Burns was a cartoon villain, and that was self-limited from a plot perspective. Winchester was a much more interesting character. He was often a foil for Hawkeye and B.J., but never a true villain.
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at January 13, 2022 06:44 PM (llXky)

------------------------------

I can think of one episodes (and only one) where Frank was treated with anything other than derision (the episode where he had a kidney stone or a burst appendix or something, and was delirious).

Winchester gave as good as he got, and even managed to best Hawkeye and BJ on more than one occasion.

My favorite episode subplot revolves around Winchester and the Christmas chocolate. The short interaction between Winchester and Klinger has always stuck with me.

I had a burger at a place in town that used to have great burgers and the best damned french-fries on the planet. I couldn't believe the nose dive. It looked the same, but the ingredients were definitely sub-par, and the fries were such a disappointment.

I think that unfortunately these poor restaurants have to balance the cost vs. cost - what they pay vs what you pay. Would you pay $18 for a burger and fries that was $9-10 a year and half ago? Or does the restaurant try to keep the prices so people will still come thru the door? I wouldn't throw a $10 at this again, but neither would I drop a $20. Biden is killing small businesses.

I watched a hilarious youtube thing with the guy who figured out how to counterfeit the new "uncopiable" currency. This was the first iteration of the stuff, where they had special pens to see if they were the real bill or not.

He tried out hundreds of different types of paper until he found out that... just old crappy newsprint like the use in the phone book showed the pen. Several layers of that and some UV ink and very careful plates and he had a winner.

This was back when high end photocopiers did not have special software and micro printing in them. He printed up hundreds of millions of dollars before he got nailed.

394 That fuck bastard Zuckerburg needs to rot in CA. TX, do not let him in!
Posted by: Drink Like Vikings at January 13, 2022 07:11 PM (CEVra)

Does anybody know where in TX he's planning on soiling? I'd guess Austin, but he'd probably prefer some virgin territory.

I know a lot of folks are freaking out about CA residents moving to their red states, but a recent survey showed that FL has had a surge in republican registration and a drop-off in dems - going from magenta to red. Something similar could be happening in other states. A lot of people are leaving because they get it.

What I don't get - is why the market is on fucking fire here - at least in the bay area. It's a total seller's market. New homes going in like mad, and dumps, and I do mean dumps are going for close to $2m in San Jose. Where are these people coming from? Or is it a stealth buy up for investment property?

398 Here's my thought on hospitals getting swamped.

If one has WuFlu symptoms, mild ones, like as reported for this Omigod variant, MUST a hospital admit you if you insist you need a bed?

'Cause I think not only does the hospital HAVE to admit you, they WANT to admit you for the $$.

And all these weenies that are testing positive with Omigod are so spooked, most of them, that even WITHOUT symptoms many will be wanting to go to hospital.

409 Every now and again, I like to check out what the lefties say on-line at DailyKos. Bidens decline and political defeats are pushing them over the edge, and now the check-the-block nature of Harris's nomination is coming home to roost and they just cannot believe how incompetent she really is. But it can't be her fault. No, not her fault. It's because of the well-known pro-GOP press bias. And racism. This is good stuff.

But there is also, 100%, no contest, an offensive amount of extra scrutiny and criticism applied to Harris because she is the first woman vice president and the first Black vice president and the first Asian American vice president. Harris is being hit with a toxic combination of sexism and racism and the media's established tendency to defer to Republicans while trashing Democrats.

Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at January 13, 2022 07:07 PM (VmY0m)

It sounds like COVID Joe really will set-up a program to send three N95 masks to everyone who requests them. Terrific. It will be a total waste of N95 masks. When people receive them and learn how hard it is to breathe in a properly fitted N95, 99.9 percent will cut holes in them or intentionally not fit them properly. They'll handle the masks with bare hands many times a day, and wear each one for many days, both no-no's for maintaining N95-level filtering.

All it will accomplish is giving the Karens another thing to scold people about: Wearing a non-N95-labeled mask where masks are still required by the local Blue Covidiot politicians

427 The "How to survive for five days in the woods" stuff is fun, but if we are really at that point, we have lost. Maybe they cut off or "throttle" (restrict/reduce) electricity or fuel oil for heat ... they already do that.

But surviving in the woods is not winning. We have to win now ... that takes a more aggressive approach against the commies in our midst. The initial action is maybe taking back the school boards ... good start. "gee, please stop raping our children, mentally and physically".
