The Morning Report - 1/10/22

strangelovefear.jpg

Good morning, kids. Start of a new week and while the bad news is the Democrats are not only not going to let their January 6th Pagan rite go, but are going to be ramping it up all the way to November and beyond, the good news is most Americans (real Americans, not illegal aliens nor the hardcore Marxist Democrat base) could give a rat's ass about it, being more concerned with trivial matters like freedom-killing economic hardship and senseless Chinese COVID mania. The globalists stole 2020 and having done so, what's been the result? One solid year of abject domestic and foreign policy disasters, debacles and catastrophes unlike any single or even multiple years in America's now-concluded history. Every decision, edict, executive order or law that brought all this about was done ostensibly for one reason: to reverse everything done in the previous four years by President Trump that brought about the exact opposite: arguably the greatest domestic and foreign policy triumphs in America's now-concluded history.

But it has to be more than that. Or has it? Doing the same things over and over while expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. And yet this is exactly what the Democrats have been doing since forever. Sadly, 99.5% of the GOP fall into this category as well. The GOP is to opposition and reversal as Ashli Babbit and Roseanne Boyland are to terrorism and violent, white supremacist insurrection. I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter if you're a true believer like Titty Caca Cortez or an Elmer Gantry grifter like Cuck Schemer Schumer. The final destination is still a mass grave for any of us who stand in their way.

So, the Democrats will milk the January 6th, 2021 incident -- where all of the violence and destruction was solely caused by FBI agents, DC cops, and their Antifa/BLM confederates in MAGA gear while the hapless fools who followed them in to the Capitol to do nothing more than gawk at the scenery are now being held and brutalized at the hands of Moloch Garland -- forever. They have to, because that's all they have. They're not going to be winning any elections on $6.00/gallon gas, transexual child rapists and Jive Kampf indoctrination, are they? At least not without the assistance of Dao-Min Yen.

The other reason to ramp up J6 fear-mongering is because all the fear-mongering regarding General Tso's Sickness is not working, especially with the revelations from the CDC itself among other places that the latest Phi Beta Kappa variant is essentially no more dangerous than the common cold. But, in the immortal words of Rodgers and Hammerstein, "you've got to be taught to hate and fear."

Until a few days ago, I had never heard the term "Mass Formation Psychosis." There's a phenomenon when something gets hot that all sorts of experts announce themselves on Twitter, when their expertise is about 24 hours old and an inch deep. . .

The conditions to set up mass formation psychosis include lack of social connectedness and sensemaking as well as large amounts of latent anxiety and passive aggression. When people are inundated with a narrative that presents a plausible "object of anxiety" and strategy for coping with it, then many individuals group together to battle the object with a collective singlemindedness. This allows people to stop focusing on their own problems, avoiding personal mental anguish. Instead, they focus all their thought and energy on this new object. . .

. . . So are we in the midst of another madness coming to an end when we least expect it?

What started me on this post was not Mass Formation Psychosis, or the Madness of Crowds, it was this post by Joel Kotkin at Unherd, which proposes what seems most unlikely proposition that the "progressive" march through institutions we are witnessing in real time may be nearing its end, Is this the end of progressive America?

Over the past several decades, the progressive Left has successfully fulfilled Antonio Gramsci's famed admonition of a "long march through the institutions". In almost every Western country, its adherents now dominate the education system, media, cultural institutions, and financial behemoths.

But what do they have to show for it? Not as much as they might have expected. Rather than a Bolshevik-style assumption of power, there's every chance this institutional triumph will not produce an enduring political victory, let alone substantially change public opinion. . .

. . . So there you have it. Mass Formation Psychosis. The Madness of Crowds. And The End Of The Progressive March Through Institutions. All connected somehow. Hope in the midst of despair.

But first, things will fall apart:

Kind of hard to have hope since the falling apart we've been through in this last year alone has been bad enough. Another year of this, let alone three, will kill me.

13 Morning hordlings - from the other side of the world in Hong Kong - where overreaction in shutting down the city has re-commenced due to a handful of Omicron case. Hong Kong has tried to maintain zero covid. I think they are about to learn that not only is that not possible, but was a counter-productive waste of time. As I have said to everyone who listens: In the not too distant future when we learn that shutting people in, out of the sun and fresh air, making them unhealthy from lack of exercise and fearful, as well as making them repeatedly touch their faces due to ridiculous mask guidelines, was the opposite of what should have been done. I expect the Fauci-troll to swing from a lamppost that day. Nay, I demand it!

20 We haven't proven any fraud, but that last election was sketchy as fuck. States need to do everything they can to tighten up election security and prevent what we saw in fall 2020 where state officials made unilateral decisions to alter election law outside of their authority, which left them open to these claims of widespread fraud.

"Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."

News Flash: We are already dead. The Constitutional Republic ended on 2021 Jan 6. The "long march" was a death march.

SCOTUS is really going to flip a coin to determine if those of us dwelling here are human beings or are the State's chattel? I think that is a clear indication that we are no where near the propositions of humanity in any of the founding documents.

The foundational concept that We the People are made in the Image of God has been replaced with the principles of "Life Unworthy of Life" is a complete rejection of Consent of the Governed, human dignity and God-given/Natural Rights.

76 we are finally able to articulate Gramscii's error, the fatal error that he and the rest of the left could never see. Yes, they could take over the institutions, and they have done that brilliantly - but what do they do once they take them? Gramscii and his followers thought they would produce a Brave New Generation of Leaders, who would install the Marxist Utopia - but instead, they're producing mob of inarticulate, irrational simpletons. What's the good of controlling anything when you turn everything you touch into garbage? Now of course people may bring up Foreign Powers, but the truth is that we, and I include the american Gramsciians here and all of our politicians for the last 80 years or so, have done this to ourselves. We can't blame this on anyone but us.

but the astounding, hope raising part is to realize that having won everything, they have won nothing at all.

Every decision, edict, executive order or law that brought all this about was done ostensibly for one reason: to reverse everything done in the previous four years by President Trump ...

Sort of. I think there is more to it than that, JJ, and it goes back much longer. The world they're now working to build so obviously - a technocratic oligarchy with a massive dependent class of pseudo-slaves - has been in the works for a few generations now. Trump was a setback, and a dangerous one. He reminded people that they are people, citizens and not subjects. His official changes and progress were important but modest, but his unofficial changes - the changes in perception - are the real danger.

They're trying to erase Trump, but far more than that they need to beat down the people to make them take it. They have to do much more than erase his policy changes, they need to erase his message. They need to redo maybe 15 years or so of erosion in spirit, and they have to do it fast.

105 The conditions to set up mass formation psychosis include lack of social connectedness and sensemaking as well as large amounts of latent anxiety and passive aggression.
++++
I hadn't heard this expression when I started thinking about this, but the lack of connection - the "atomization" we've been seeing for a decade or so, with serious acceleration over the past couple of years - has been an obvious problem. I have described this is a a social-scale anomie.

Per Wikipedia, which does a serviceable job in this case, it "is a social condition defined by an uprooting or breakdown of any moral values, standards or guidance for individuals to follow. Anomie may evolve from conflict of belief systems and causes breakdown of social bonds between an individual and the community ... E.g. alienation in a person that can progress into a dysfunctional inability to integrate within normative situations of their social world ..."

This has usually been an individual concept, and came to the fore in (and the term was invented for) the study of suicide. But the last several years have struck me as a form of civilization-scale anomie, an increasingly-complete unmooring.

It's likely a censorship game. The concepts underlying "mass formation psychosis" all already exist like the "anomie" concept. There's nothing new there but the combination. And it seems to fit, which means it is likely a partial or possibly (though I doubt it) complete explanation for what's going on.

And what must *not* be permitted is an explanation, because an explanation - even if incomplete and low-resolution - might make people start thinking about solutions, and anything that might reduce atomization is unacceptable to the technocrats. The notion needs to be suppressed to stop people from thinking about it possibly getting uppity and recommending changes. It's a nice, easy term to censor, and they *will* censor it.

Is it correct? Probably, at least to some degree. But the real problem is that any solutions coming from that problem statement will be inimical to the technocratic planners' ambitions and desires. Even if it's *wrong,* it has to be suppressed.

120 JJS quotes a writer at Unherd, which I heard of only recently, and another article at Unherd is also worth reading, "America Is Controlled By Secrecy". The author argues that the Deep State bureaucracy is maliciously abusing the classification process to keep everyday oversight out of the public view.

What does it mean when President Biden declares an event in which four people died, all of them Trump supporters and only one by violence, the "worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War," and The New York Times marks the anniversary by proclaiming that "Every Day Is Jan. 6 Now"? The implication is politics as permanent crisis, which sounds strikingly like a definition of war.

This obvious threat inflation, which should be familiar after September 11, is used by governments and private corporations alike to award themselves more unaccountable power. To work, it relies on the public being cowed by the expertise and authority of institutions that operate in secret. These methods have proved to be highly effective for defending the power of America's bureaucracies.

Sure, but it doesn't matter. A charismatic and popular leader is hugely helpful and they'd like to get back to that, but they can hold the line without it. They have all the institutions and their base ideas of postmodern nonsense are worshiped adequately by virtually everyone with a public voice.

Biden is a joke and everyone knows it. Even his supporters likely know it (at least largely so). But the power behind the throne isn't, and the proxies with name recognition can hold the line for a bit. A cult of personality is very useful to get things started, but you can survive without it. The USSR is a prime example. The leader is always "strong like bull" and other such inanity, but the Politburo overcame weak leaders.

So have the conservatives on the Court. Oral arguments are pretty much last stage in it all, and even in the minds of "honest" justices that wait for everything, they have something like 98% of what they need by the time oral arguments start.

The problem isn't that Sotomayor made up her mind, it's that she's a barely functioning retard with immense power, placed there with the help of 9 Republicans, 7 of which are no longer in Congress. The last 2 (Graham and Collins), should be asked hard questions about her.

Statewide, a total of 11,737 potential non-U.S. citizens were identified as being registered to vote. Of these, 327 records were identified in Collin County, 1,385 in Dallas County, 3,063 in Harris County, and 708 in Tarrant County. So far, Dallas County has canceled 1,193 of these records, with Tarrant County canceling one. Neither Collin nor Harris have canceled any potential non-voting records.

Unless they're starting a rollout. It starts with some academic papers (usually) and then those get translated into press articles. Then come the thinkpieces. Then come occasional references in the TV news. Then come the hour-format exposes on the "surprising roots of X." Then come the open discussion on the "dangers of X and those misinformed by it" by the politicians. The overall volume of coverage ramps up. Then it will be the subject of some grotesque monologues on late night for their handful of viewers. Then comes it being the butt of the joke in throwaway lines in sitcoms. Etc.

Sure, the AP has limited reach anymore, but if it's just the early stage of a rollout, everyone will know the term within six months as it is treated seriously and then lampooned. No one serious could consider it seriously.

155 76 we are finally able to articulate Gramscii's error, the fatal error that he and the rest of the left could never see.

Name anyone in the Dem Leadership structure today who has those qualities. I see the Bully Pulpit as a force multiplier. If the President has the people behind him, he can use his power as the leader of the executive branch to lean on the legislative branch to do his will and, by extension, the will of the people.

With the dominance of large money donors over the past decades, the power of the pulpit has diminished overall. Lawmakers are less likely to be influenced by their voters now than ever, it seems.

Biden planning an "angry speech" to get legislation done means that he's lashing out. Polling isn't on his side, so he's quite literally, in terms of how Congress works, just an old pundit.

They have most of the structure they need. They don't have a strongman at the front of it all. I suppose we'll find out whether that's necessary.

But another problem, I think, is that their catastrophic policy failures last year means they didn't advance the ball much - but they haven't retreated from anything. Perhaps the line has been held, but not pushed back. And that means they can (and will) try again. And again. And again. Not a single one of them has been removed from power, not a single agency executive fired, not a single press organization destroyed. Their power base is unchanged.

198 Brandon's SEC going full Marxist. They want to try and force private companies to comply with all the public listing rules. Hint: They don't have the authority. Sound familiar?

They are doing this because private companies dont have to comply with their "climate change" garbage, invasive disclosure rules, woke boardroom rules and the entire Democrat Left Wing Marxist agenda. In fact they've chosen not to go public usually because of that nonsense.

Even though IPO's remain relatively strong some of the best companies have decided to stay private. It's easier for them to keep control of their company and use private investment to fund their usually very profitable operations. We call this "capitalism".

210 Going on two years of virtual "schooling." I took live video remote learning classes in college 20 years ago and can tell you it's near impossible to learn. Millions of children have had untold amounts of vital education stolen from them in the most fertile learning years ....

Help me understand the form of remote schooling a score of years ago. How much of it was simply watching videos and scratching out answers on a form?

Given the amount of technology dumped into podcasting and generating watchable video content by lay people in the past few years, I was sort of hoping that a merger of expert systems, quality video with animations, a level of interaction (like when messing with CAD systems), introducing elements of gaming and challenges all of that psychological stuff that draws people into Farmville and MafiaWars... would be part of computerized curriculum.

We have the technology and with billions of people on this planet, likely can find someone with skills to pass on.

High-latency failures are a big problem and are hard to deal with. I've dealt with any number of them myself over the years - things that fail only after a year or more of operation, or fail in really unexpected ways but only after time has passed and usually with other conditions to confound diagnosis.

When it's a street light or a network switch, it's expensive and embarrassing but not particularly dangerous. For some other things, though, high-latency failure can be much more dangerous.

As you see time and again throughout history. My favorite example of this because it is so easy to understand is Korea. The Korean written alphabet is interesting in that it is phonetic and follows fairly strict rules. This is extremely odd for Asia, especially back when the alphabet was created.

And that's the key. It was created. The emperor was having a problem with the clergy. Almost everyone was illiterate because Korea (not unusually) used Chinese as a written language. It's hard and complicated and requires years of study and was inaccessible to the peasants. The clergy usually had to go tell the peasants about whatever was written down. So the emperor sends out an order that the clergy doesn't like, and they can just say whatever they want.

So he ordered a new alphabet and then went on a literacy campaign to break the other power center by bypassing them.

Democrats have destroyed the equity markets. Almost Nobody wants to put up with their Left Wing rules which rob them of their independence and profitability. There are now over 950 private companies valued at over $1 billion and up. Companies that choose to do an IPO are mostly trading below the offering price in the first year. Public Companies with ongoing operations get stripped of a fair chunk of their profitability complying with all the SEC garbage. They also are getting decisions taken out of their hands and are continually bombarded with gadfly lawsuits. For what? Access to the public market? That's why many of the beat companies are saying no thanks, we'll go private. It's just not worth it.

This SEC proposal is garbage and it's just going to chase people further out of the markets- maybe even to foreign jurisdictions.

Communism is the triumph of laziness and complete lack of character because its underlying presumption is that someone else (e.g. Centralized Government) will cure all that ails you. Because Communism has no expectations of individualism or individual achievement, everyone mails it in. "They pretend to pay us, we pretend to work".

The school systems are riddled with Communists who view their gigs as sinecures. The pay is not on competency but on the number and quality of post graduate degrees and certifications (but mostly on what the union can negotiate for you).

So of course the schools will crank out absolute garbage because one teacher in Elementary school is responsible for only 1/12th of a given student's education, and even less when that kid moves to high school.

Not My Problem attitude prevails.

Everyone knows no one survives those camps, their organs get harvested and then the remainder is shot. Nice people, those CCP types.

Republicans should push for returning to the Constitution in regards to presidential elections. On the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, the election is held. Get back to basics, regain the trust, then work from there.

Right. It's been a popular thing in PC peripherals for years, to the point where you basically can't build your own system without getting at least some parts that light up in programmable colors.

As I've said above, I've seen older components with that feature lose the ability to change to the entire color range over time.

Fortunately, my wife and I gave my son a week with two of his buddies at a ski resort in VA so he missed Jordan's attempts to contact him. My son returned only to find out that Jordan had gone full stupid. Quite a lesson. Oddly, Jordan and Keb (the kid killed over shoes) had visited our house the night before around 2:00 AM. Heh. From NPR:
"Mass-formation psychosis" is not an academic term recognized in the field of psychology, nor is there any evidence of such a phenomenon occurring during the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple experts in crowd psychology have told Reuters and the Associated Press.

That is actually a fascinating little blurb. It isn't a term that is "recognized in the field of psychology" and therefore it doesn't exist. Despite its non-existence, though, you don't have to worry about it because experts say it isn't happening. If it isn't real - and if it's not a mainstream academic term in their own language, then it doesn't by definition - then why refute it? Why go to your cadre of academic experts to debunk something that isn't real?

LED failure is usually binary, but there are a ton of LEDs in those bright light arrays. You see this all the time with LED traffic signals. It goes from a full circle to a circle with several dots missing, to a circle with many dots missing, to a circle with only a few dots left. This is easiest to see in the early phases during dusk, when there's enough ambient light to provide contrast, but its low enough to make the signals really stand out.

This is one of the reason roads departments love LED traffic signals. They cost less to operate but they also don't fail all at once like a traditional light bulb, so they can schedule replacement as they start to go out and do so pretty predictably, rather than having to send a truck out whenever a bulb blows. The major downside is that they run fairly cool and so snow can much more easily obstruct signals in areas that get a lot of snow.

344 That is actually a fascinating little blurb.

NEWS FLASH: Each and every psychological term, at some point in history didn't exist!

Before Malone pushed it, the term was "Mass Delusional Psychosis". I think the "Delusional" part is too easily recognized and characterized by hoi polloi to be offensive so the "Delusional" was replaced by "Formation".

So that will make it all better.

352 More to the point on the NPR article, there's another internal contradiction I didn't see in real time. If "mass-formation psychosis" is not an acknowledged academic term or phenomenon, how can their cadre of experts refute it? By their own admission, they have no expertise. The term and condition aren't real, acknowledged or understood by academic psychologists and so how can academic psychologists be expert enough to refute it? They can at best describe their opinions, informed by related study, to explain why they doubt it is a thing - but they can't conclude that it isn't, either, because by their own terms they're not experts in mass-formation psychosis.

So, if they make an exception and allow him in sans jab, they have to acknowledge natural immunity as a government. Now that a judge has freed him, the government must either allow for natural immunity, or deport the #1 tennis player and effectively ban him from the Australian open for the next 3 years. 379 The face diaper nonsense is not dead yet among businesses. I went to a small independent shoe repair shop that I've used in the past with success. "Mask required" sign on the door I ignored, as a lot of places still have that up but don't bother me. And the N95-masked lady behind the glass-shielded counter didn't seem to mind for 5 minutes. Then, suddenly, she "remembered." "You need to put on a mask." "Why? I've been here for 5 minutes already, and you have your face diaper and shield. Speak up, I can't hear you." "We have to! It's Going Around!"

"Fine, if you don't want my money," I said, and strode out. Later I left a Yelp review of the shop, warning sensible people about the policy. Then I called some other places, and they are okay with no muzzle. Ha.

There are many plausible reasons including certain intelligence agencies letting the Chinese and Russians know we still have a hand to play. Both of those countries have restive and often suppressed ethnic minorities or bordering nations they spend a lot of time keeping in line, and who are not predisposed to their authoritarian rule.

You are right, the Aussie government has an internal contradiction to deal with. I think they allowed 26 players to make the same argument, and most were permitted entry on that basis. So, the federal authorities were stretching a point and allowing natural immunity for the tennis players, but Australians themselves do not get the same break (as you say). Djokovic became the focal point and the Karen blowback embarrassed the hell out of the government. Even a few players revealed themselves Karen-ish (Andy Murray's brother for one), and started whining.

The Movie Chinese Communists Hate the Most?

Reading this article and the description of how the CCP operated with Falun Gong makes me realize that the American government, intelligence community, mass media, social media have all gotten their training from the CCP. And are using CCP techniques to smear and harrass Americans. Scary shit. Though it makes sense, since every institution in the USA is now controlled by the left. But now it seems that they are all controlled by either the CCP or leftists trained in CCP tactics. Again, scary shit to realize that instead of America trying to help the world depose cultures like Communist China, America is becoming more like Communist China.

Only a racist would think that the black guy who was directing people into the capitol with ties to antifa was a black guy in white makeup.

415 Sure, the AP has limited reach anymore, but if it's just the early stage of a rollout, everyone will know the term within six months as it is treated seriously and then lampooned. No one serious could consider it seriously.

Yep, just reference what they did with turning HCQ into "fish bowl cleaner" and turning Ivermectin into "horse paste". They will work to do the same with mass formation psychosis.

Yep, and then Twitter took that and trended it with the message "experts say 'mass formation psychosis' does not exist".

418 Douglas Murray - The Madness of Crowds
seems to tie in with the current mindset of the West

Dr. Richard Swensen - Hurtling Towards Oblivion examines the possibility that it's too late for America, but we won't care anyway, since we're awash in "bread and circuses," immersed in technological trinkets, games, gambling, movies, fine dining and sports.

Stolen election? Snore. Aborted baby parts for sale? Yeah, whatever. Shacking up? Gotta be free. Blow your ears off with ubiquitous trash rock music every damn place on the planet? Don't be such a square. High heel marches for military men? Well, why not?

Where was I...? Oh forget it...time for The View.

419 Dr. Strangelove is one of the greatest films ever made. Certainly one of the most timeless and most quotable!
