The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Mass immigration into New York City is nothing new. The Dutch, Germans, British all came in large numbers after independence. And the Irish Potato Famine of the late 1840s drove what seemed like to New Yorkers of the time most of Ireland to the city. And then of course the great immigrations beginning in the 1880s from Italy and Russia and Poland (and a few other places) radically changed the ethnic makeup of NYC, but kept its essence, which included the best public school system in America, a sometimes maniacal drive to succeed, and an astonishingly rapid subsumption into the quintessential "New Yorker."

But the seeds of NYC's destruction were sown in the 1960s with the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which shifted American immigration away from its traditional sources and toward parts of the world that simply had no history or tradition of liberty, self reliance, and other attributes that comprised American Exceptionalism.

Anyone-can-vote madness hits NYC, serving up yet another far-left victory

Routine definitions of the word “citizen” include such phrases as a “person who legally belongs to a country and has the rights and protection of that country” and a person “who owes allegiance to a government and is entitled to protection from it.”

The common point is the transaction — a citizen gives something and gets something, as does the government.

One of those rights that has universally distinguished citizens from noncitizens is the right to vote. Unfortunately, we can now add that distinction to history’s trash heap thanks to the far left’s war on the nation’s culture and legal systems.

The author is unnecessarily histrionic, because the damage to New York City has already been done by several generations of immigrants whose overriding goal in life is to suckle from the government teat.

So they get to vote now? So what? Their representatives are doing everything they can to create Venezuela-On-The Hudson, and have been remarkably successful.

Yes, it is a shocking and disgusting thing to subvert the essence of America by allowing non-citizen voting, but the reality is already here. New York City is a 3rd World city with a 1st World revenue stream, courtesy of the finance industry. But that revenue has peaked, and the massive increase in city expenditures that began with de Blasio will only accelerate under a regime that owes its political power to the antithesis of the classic NYC success story.

Here is my entirely obvious prediction: Crime will increase. Poverty will increase. Urban decay will increase. Tourism will decrease. Suburban New Yorkers will spend less money in the city. In 10 years the mayor (a non-citizen?) will go to Congress and ask for $125 billion in emergency funding to stave off imminent default and the total collapse of city services.

And he will get it.

*Maybe* on the last one. I think it's more likely that there is a lot of back-room machinating and deal-making between a lot of parties to put together an "emergency relief package" for all the blue hives to bail out all of them - and maybe even some states, too - in one shot. The press will do their duty in the full-on propaganda push about how vital it is for economic development, for continued supply chain harmony, for our fellow man, for the economy, for energy, for the climate, for everything. After all, qhat's a couple of trillion between friends?

The thing is that if you're going to let non-citizens hang around they do *become* stakeholders in local decisions.

Because that's the end goal. Just like the DNC playing with the government like it was a pinball machine they have up on their toes.

What's funny is that this law is actually unnecessary. NY already allows illegals to get driver's licenses. And, there is automatic voter registration when you get your driver's license.

the fairly new law doesn't allow anyone to ask the person applying for the license and registering to vote for any kind of evidence that they are a legal resident. Instead, the form simply asks the person "are you legally entitled to vote" and assumes everyone will answer that honestly.

If the person doesn't answer that question honestly, they are registered to vote. So, as of now, I'm guessing there are tons of illegals voting in NY in state, local, and federal elections and there is no way to audit it.

I guess NYC passed this b/c they were worried not enough illegals are getting driver's licenses and thus are not getting registered to vote.

She wrote an article in Defense One (a mouthpiece for the defense industry) entitled:

They sent in the dog to worry him so they could close and grab him. Once he started stabbing the dog, they had to do what they were afraid of doing. They shot him.

Seems to me the woke fucks of Seattle killed that dog by making the cops too afraid of shooting a crazy fuck with a knife they knew wouldn't surrender.

In 10 years the mayor (a non-citizen?) will go to Congress and ask for $125 billion in emergency funding to stave off imminent default and the total collapse of city services.
And he will get it.

Agree. There is no precedent for a big municipal bankruptcy in this country. Smaller places have done it, but not cities like NYC or Detroit. Detroit, IIRC, was on the brink, but went into receivership and still got their money. The muni bond market will go absolutely bonkers. In themselves they're not as big as the stock market, but they are massive. It'll be too disruptive to let them fail; they are much too big, and it would force a review of every bond covenant out there. It should happen, but it won't.

Just by assuming you're the dumb one in a group identifies you as likely the smartest. It is those who are smart enough to know how ignorant they are that have the higher iqs.

But even with an above average iq in the group, halving that brings it into average or slightly below average at best. That's about 75 to 90 I think. And that's not dumb but it's not the smartest. The more people there are the less likely a smart person will be present because smart people know that groups with a large attendance don't get much done so they find excuses to get out of going or just flat don't go. Figuring they can fix any FUPs by the group later.

I would bet that unless it is really critical to something you are closely involved with, you don't show up for big meetings and even then you might not as you can change how things work after the meeting.

During the Cold War, there was a firm rule - our troops didn't attack Russian troops, and Russian troops didn't attack our troops. You could use proxies (North Vietnamese, Afghans, et. al.) to attack the other side's troops, but no direct combat.

The reason why that rule existed is that it was obvious that if American and Russian troops started shooting at each other directly, the chance of escalation to the use of nuclear weapons was significant.

But I guess with an inspiring leader like President Biden, we can throw that rule out the window.

I *think* Detroit actually went bankrupt, but like a big corporate bankruptcy it was a restructuring and not a liquidation. The public unions took it in the shorts, IIRC, and a lot of the debt was restructured and a bunch of bondholders got a haircut but it was by no means a total loss.

The biggest side effect of the Detroit experience, in my opinion, is what happened to the local government. The local government was essentially dissolved. The executives were all replaced with appointed officials to cut to the bone and get the books in shape. It was at least pseudo-successful, but it made Detroit an actual dictatorship. The vote was meaningless during the restructuring, because the government was essentially suspended.

In part, this is because Trump was a killing blow. He was not in the manager class, and he did better - and delivered better everyday results to people - than the managers accomplished. Here's an idea
If you've been working for the past 40 years or so and suddenly are not, it's a total adjustment even if you didn't like your job. You had a schedule. You knew what you had to do and did it You do not have a job right now and that's adding to your depression. Try to make up some kind of schedule and stick to it as much as possible. Schedule some time for writing as if it is a job-which it is. The other writers on here can give you some advice on that if you need that. You also might find some ways aside from being a nice and interesting person on here, you can help others. Pack some bags at the local food pantry if you have one nearby? See if you can volunteer at an animal shelter if you like animals? Deliver meals on wheels? Also, and it's a given. Do not look at the news or this site so much, It really helps. And I would guess there are some funny silent films you can watch. Try to laugh every day.

But that being stated, Democrats have used Russia as their favorite whipping boy. They have destroyed any semblance of a relationship for their attacks and quest for power. MPPPP,

Fen's suggestions about a schedule are on target. If you work better in the morning, set a time, say 8 am, when you will be done with breakfast. Then go into your writing room or area, sit, and work. Say, "I will write n pages today," even if n=1 to start with. A page is about 250 words. Once you get rolling on a scene, as you know, you may exceed that.

Here's the other thing that works for me: Stop your daily writing in the middle of a sentence! When you sit down to work tomorrow, you will have the impetus to finish that sentence and to write what you know comes after it (you'll have been thinking about the scene for the last 24 hours, and you'll have a good idea what should follow). That will give you a springboard to the day's work.

I've said a few times here; be prepared for retirement. It won't be what you expect. Have a plan, have another plan. Aim at structure and not getting bored. Money will be in short supply even if you planned for that. Especially now. Everything will suddenly seem like it costs more because it's taking away from a fixed amount that you won't be able to make up in other ways.

This period lasts about 3 years. It's why so many men die in the first 3 years of retirement. Their work was the reason for them living. Women don't have this as they have the family (usually) to give them reason.

Give yourself reason to get up in the morning and do the living stuff that's a bore and tedious. Keep your home clean. It will make you feel better. Meet new people and do new things.

I suspect, though I haven't been through it yet, is that your mind has not yet realized that this is not a vacation of 5-10 days and then you're back at work. You're still seeing it as a break from work. You'll be over it eventually. In the meantime, work up a schedule, not a minute-by-minute or hour-by-hour thing but a solid outline of what you need to do this day, and stick to it.

McCarthy's post and his responses of late are trash. He is weak, feckless and will yield to the donor class. He's also starting to make me think its better to deal with the devil you know. I believe people are fed up and therefore Republicans will take a majority in the House and probably the senate. But that's based on pathos from the beating we are currently taking. Anyone believing that McCarthy and McConnell will fight back and save us from the major challenges we face is kidding themselves.

Seriously, are you getting enough Vitamin D3? In winter, if you are getting insufficient D3, and no sunshine, that can lead to depression. And maybe go to a tanning salon (are any still open) or get a UV light to sit in front of for a while. Lack of UV, Vitamin D3 can lead to seasonal depression.
I have this thing called a Verilux screen on my work desk, that shines UV light on me while I work. Seasonal depression is not a joke. Please take care of yourself.

If it wasn't for the power to shift the census, New York's decision would be isolated. As the Constitution gives the elections to the states, it would be in keeping with that to allow NY to allow whoever they want to vote to vote.

The problem is that no other state should lose a district and NY should gain 0 EC votes by simply being an immigration whore.

But the Constitutional directions for the census allow such a thing, because it was written in a more rational time.

300 Putin and *biden had a conversation not long ago, at Putin's request IIRC. I'd bet Putin told *biden his plans and it'd be best if the US and/or NATO didn't get involved.

I think Putin plans on retaking territory up to the The Dnieper River... that's where Russia stops. Russian troop concentrations seem to support this possibility. It would also solidify Russian claims to the Donbas by providing a security barrier.

Maybe they expect their donor money to overcome things, or have accepted that Trump is going to be the nominee no matter what and are more concerned with coopting his second term rather than fighting it.

1- a small but significant chunk of unvaccinated are leaving (or potentially getting the boot).
2- only fully vaccinated (whatever that means) people can enlist
3- the youth are in worse and worse physical and mental health every year, making many ineligible
4- with schools closed so much, recruiters have little time to interact with high school students (biggest recruiting group)
5- youth are hoping/planning on student loan forgiveness, so education benefits aren't as useful a recruiting carrot
6- more youth are unmotivated, and content with "minimalist" lifestyles, so a 6 year, full-time contracted job isn't appealing
7- continued wokeness in the military turns off more people than it attracts

Wear one of the masks that has a straight out exhaust. You're protected but no one else it. Part of the problem is after a bit of time the amount of carbon dioxide under the mask is very high. With a straight thru exhaust there's no build up.

Most people won't say anything and if they do, you can get wide eyed and say "really! I didn't know I'll fix that right away, thanks" and then walk off about your business.

Going back to the way we were before all this happened? Not gonna happen, not even possible, and thinking that can happen is just a way to aggravate yourself needlessly. Either he goes full-out and it inadvertently blows up into WWIII or nothing happens to them and Russia/China know the ruling junta's muh Russia proclamations are just piss and wind. Lose-lose.

Posted by: irongrampa at January 13, 2022 12:06 PM (KATBx)

This is a tough one, but I'm going to say - possibly - Trump. This is ground that he knows a lot about, actually.

When his real estate empire was threatened with bankruptcy in the 80s, he knew that it was his creditors that had the problem, not him. While they were working out the details, they had to pay him to live his life and show he was successful (I had a friend at Chase that told me the details of this. Very interesting). In time, the Japanese that saw Trump as synonymous with success bought his properties again and bailed him (and the banks) out.

If we get to the feces impacting the propeller stage of economic meltdown, he might be the man for the job.

Most folks believe that about 70% of people have a range of iq from 90 to 115.

So worst you can do is 45 which is fairly stupid but the general pop of the group is probably stupid. The best is 57.5 which is smarter but not by much.

And those groups will most likely get steered by the one with the best iq. So it works out about right as one person can only do so much but just a few people can f**k up even the simplest stuff.

519 this doesn't hold up for normally distributed groups unless you specify the correct sigma range.
That said, if Arkansas annexed southern Missouri, it would double the IQ of both states.

Are you implying that the horde is normal?

We are certainly NOT normally distributed.

521 Yammerings; That's such a great word. You must ne over 29. I don't hear that word all that often.

I use it more often than I should in a scene where the narrator is confused. "I yammered something, I don't know what, and dived for the door."

522 Viewed a certain way, Florida now resembles something of a MAGA megachurch, with Donald Trump as God and DeSantis as the smiling, well-heeled pastor.

"That's retarded, sir."

524 And those groups will most likely get steered by the one with the best iq. So it works out about right as one person can only do so much but just a few people can f**k up even the simplest stuff.

Having worked with multiple board of directors, I will respectively disagree. The dominant personality generally steers and none of those I worked with would have been considered the smartest guy in the room.

525 By and large in general with very VERY rare exceptions, a person who IS NOT a U.S. citizen must be and IS a citizen in another nation. A person who is a citizen of another nation at least has the option, generally, of participating in that nation's elections and voting processes.

So a making non-citizens eligible to vote in the U.S. means making non-citizens eligible to vote TWICE AS MUCH as a U.S. citizen. One person, TWO votes.

Tell me about equity, again... ?

526 I retired two years ago after a career in Broadcast TV engineering. I have many hobbies including, of course electronics (restoring post war TVs, radios, etc), working on my 57 Chevy or my 70 Chevelle, and "playing" with my O gauge model railroad. I keep busy everyday with those activities, excluding the time I spend here. But, that's the trick....find something, a hobby or activity that you enjoy, something that holds your interest. Most of the stuff I mentioned have been lifelong interests for me, so it was easy to transition to a retired life. I use to kid my friends that my job was getting in the way of my hobbies! Find something that you love to do and getting up in the morning becomes easier to do.

527 Greetings:

The Catholic parochial school system also made valuable contribution to NYC in the 19th and 20th centuries.

And the City University of New York used to be a tuition free-zone until the city went into bankruptcy in the '70s.

528 Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which shifted American immigration away from its traditional sources and toward parts of the world that simply had no history or tradition of liberty, self reliance, and other attributes that comprised American Exceptionalism.

Actually, that would be the Judaeo-Christian tradition. Exactly as P J Buchanan said.

529 "But the seeds of NYC's destruction were sown in the 1960s with the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which shifted American immigration away from its traditional sources and toward parts of the world that simply had no history or tradition of liberty, self reliance, and other attributes that comprised American Exceptionalism."

So according to the author of the mid-morning rant, my mother should not have been allowed in this country, for my mother came from a country with no history of liberty. And, according to the author, I should likewise not be inclined to liberty, self reliance or any attributes that comprise American exceptionalism because of genetics. The experience of my family and myself sharply contradicts the author.

Patrick J Buchanan is a demented, sick, evil man. Hell, he thinks Stalin was a brilliant politician.

I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter

maybe you would have some experience with something like this.

Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.
