More alleged rumours of leaks of AMD's new Rembrandt chips have surfaced. (Tom's Hardware)

It has 8 Zen 3 (or possibly Zen 3+) CPU cores, 12 RDNA2 graphics cores - by comparison the Xbox Series S has 20 so this isn't bad at all for a laptop chip, a 128-bit DDR5/LPDDR5 memory interface - not clear if this is backwards compatible with DDR4 and LPDDR4 but probably, dual USB 4.0 ports, dual USB 3.1 ports, dual 10Gb Ethernet ports which probably aren't going to see much use in laptops, and 20 lanes of PCIe 4 - enough for a chipset, two SSDs, and dedicated graphics.

It's built on TSMC's 6nm process, which is really just a refresh of 7nm, but does provide worthwhile benefits on power, performance, and size.

This should make for some really nice laptops this year.
All the remaining Alder Lake parts have leaked as well. (VideoCardz)

Hmm. I just ordered a Netgear Nighthawk router, but I went much higher up the food chain because I want my WiFi network to just work. Maybe I should have gone Asus again. After all, my fingers have grown back after last time.

Update: Okay, the Asus model they recommend is 10% faster than the Netgear I have on order and 80% more expensive, so no.
Azure is half the size of AWS. (Thurrott.com)

That's honestly not too bad. AWS owns 40% of the cloud space and Azure 20%. I'd rather they all crashed and burned and were never heard from again, but at least no-one owns half the market.
Intel's thread director is coming to Linux. (Tom's Hardware)

The problem with Intel's new Alder Lake chips is that there's a huge difference between the performance and efficiency cores, both in speed and power consumption, and the operating system has to keep track of which cores should be running which programs.

I'd prefer not to have to deal with this at all, but the efficiency cores truly are efficient - for suitably multi-threaded tasks they can deliver twice the throughput per watt.
Threw some more money at GOG. Didn't know there was DLC for Grim Dawn, for example. It's rather refreshing to see reviews for DLC and instead of 2/5 It's a cash grab but it does add a couple of useful things it's 5/5 The developer has hit it out of the park yet again.

Plus War for the Overworld, which looks like the true successor the the classic Dungeon Keeper, Stellar Tactics which looks like the work of a single developer, the classic Emperor of the Fading Suns, and some more Stellaris DLC.

Also, GOG's order history page is weird. If you got to the checkout and then decided to go back and change your order it creates an entry marked "pending order" that I sure hope goes away after a while because I did that a lot and the page is full of them.

7 Happy New Year Late Night and Upside Down hoard members.

The "poor" in the US now get pretty much free or hugely discounted everything now, especially luxury items, and they'll still bitch and moan about wanting more. It's better to make $45k a year than $60k because you'll pay less in taxes and can cover the difference with all the free shit you can get. I'd say they can offer the poor a discount on a limited internet that gives them an email, connection to edu or gov sites, and a limited number of other sites, as we know 100% of the use will be tiktok and porn.

Also almost through with Is it Wrong....Season 2, and I sure as hell didn't have "Bell getting repeatedly sexually assaulted (by someone other than Hestia) " on my possible plot bingo card. Too bad this season appears to be complete useless shit.

8 They beg you to let their ads onto your screen. But they've loaded up on so many ads and some of them that don't behave that they make the website impossible to use, especially if you have low powered setup, that you can't browse the website with any kind of linearity that you give up and go back to blocking ads.

They bring the lack of revenue on themselves or at least the people they let put ads on their website.

I can't tell you how it felt for the first time using an adblocker. It was a long time ago and ads were less trouble back then but it was like taking a breath of mountain air. The experience was so clean and straight forward and fast. It was like buying a new computer. I've hardly ever not used one since.

Haven't watched season 2 yet, though I did watch Sword Oratoria. I like it well enough but honestly the best part of the show is the season 1 ending credits.

Yeah the chibi ending was cute and the closing song was good. The closing animation for the second season is basically just show clips.

I still have 2 episodes to go, but season 2 feels basically like a bridge season, with pretty much no real plot or important information given, but made so that they can start season 3 with the characters in a completely different place from where season 1 ended (i hope that's the case and season 3 isn't also pointless) This could have easily been a 2 or 3 part OVA, but they needed to squeeze fans for the money while selling what ended up being softcore hentai.

25 Today is Turkey Dinner with my younger brother and his wife. (They were at her family's for Christmas)
It's his idea for dinner today, and he had a turkey he wanted to cook, so here we are.

Family dinners at mom's used to be 'the thing' but I'm pretty much over all of that. Especially since the workload now falls on me, and mom gets anxious over any change in routine.

Akso, we're supposed to get a ton of snow today so daughter and son in law don't think they want to venture out with the grandbaby. Sad, but understandable.

But, one more time to make put the leaves in the old dining room table, haul out the "good" dishes and use the silver! At least the house is still clean from last week.

29 On the plus side, with said snow on the way, I finally made room in the garage here to fit my truck in. Took a bit of ingenuity, the garage is one of the things that still holds a bunch of dad's stuff that needs to be gone through, but i got it to work.

I really hate scraping windshields and moving vehicles around to be able to shovel! The streets in this village are narrow, no parking on them when it snows, and mom's driveway is one car's width wide and only two car lengths long. Needed to fit the truck in so brother and Mr. I have parking spots today.

Some of the recent Linux phone hardware looks reasonable, but there's still work to do on the OS.

Other option is to find an Android phone supported by one of the open-source forks and re-flash the OS on it.

I have an aging Samsung Galaxy S6 Active cellphone. Not overly impressed with the new offerings, but I am impressed the manufacturers think they're worth upwards of a grand.

So far, more or less, every time Bitcoin is valued around 60K, it sells off.

That isn't to say it won't climb some day to outrageous heights. But, bubble.

And that isn't to say that, I wish I'd put every cent into Bitcoin when it was "worth" $10. Cuz exploiting teh suckers for jackpots seems to be what cryptocurrency is all about, if you can time it properly.

Comment a lot on forums related to your site. So if you're selling say, specialized jewelry tools, go to the jewelry forums. Once you make a few sales with happy customers, they'll spread the word.

In sales, there are no shortcuts, although SEO marketing companies would disagree.

It's a little big, but I wouldn't mind using it forever except that its chipset doesn't play nicely with any of the US carriers (doesn't work with Verizon at all and kinda iffy with TMobile), so the phone part of it doesn't work reliably. But whenever I go looking for new phone candidates, they are all enormous.

(The best form factor of any phone I've had is still the HTC Rezound. Perfect size, and a curved back meant it fit comfortably in my hand. Who likes totally flat phones?? So uncomfortable to hold.)

I am going to look for a new church. I went to church on Christmas Eve and almost cried because it was good to worship with the Body again. Yes. I use Sigelei VPE. It's similar to the RJR gas station brand except I buy my own juice for a steep discount in comparison.

It's more true than not, sad to say. Speaking of that evil company, I used to do AdWords or whatever it was called back then and it was as if a vacuum had been attached to my wallet and I could hear the money flying out. With very little return. I didn't do it for long, or I would've gone broke very quickly.

There used to be a directory that you just had to be listed in for Google to find you. It was hard to get listed in it too, because if you were a reseller of any kind, you wouldn't get listed unless you brought something new to the table. I can't think of what that directory was called now! I managed to get listed in it and it did help me a lot. But here again, that was a long time ago. Things have changed dramatically, I'm sure.

When you mandate that everyone graduates high school, the result isn't that everyone magically gets smart enough to graduate. It's that school gets dumb enough for everyone to graduate.

Similarly, "educators" notice that kids who voluntarily take extra math in high school do better in college. So they mandate more math. But making everyone take Algebra II doesn't magically change students who take only the bare minimum of required math into students who voluntarily take extra math. All it does is destroy Algebra II, because you have to make it easier so everyone can pass.

This is why I really liked O'Reilly's 'Killing' books - they put the events in context with what was happening at the time. His 'Killing Jesus' gave me a much better understanding of what the early church had to deal with - and gives me a measure of hope for today that Truth will endure.

I've been doing bitcoin trading for most of a year now. It's actually a special case of an automated trading scheme that I've been working on for some years. Right now, I'm making just over $0.02 per transaction, which works out to 0.0015% of the stake. It does a LOT of transactions, though, so I expect to be in the 10% per year range. I can say my actual balance is up about $200 from where I started, about half of which is due to the increase in price from when I started.
