You Can't Be Mad At Me I'm Cute Video of the Day And before you ask, yes, they're always like this. Party Like It's 1980 Video of the Day Huh. I could have used this last week - it charted in 1980 but it was recorded in 1979. Anyway, welcome to the 1980s. Happy New Year Down Under... Traveling in a fried-out Kombi On a hippie trail, head full of zombie I met a strange lady, she made me nervous She took me in and gave me breakfast And she said Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover I'm pretty sure I've had a head full of zombie. That's much better than getting head from a zombie. Posted by: GnuBreed at January 01, 2022 04:16 AM (F0YaR) 5

Looking thru the VPN deals, #7 offers a lifetime subscription on a whopping 120 servers for the low low price of whatever.
Some troll will buy this service to post here, and all 120 servers will be banned within a week. As Tony The Tiger sez, greeeaaaat. I like server numbers to be in the THOUSANDS. But that's just me. Posted by: GnuBreed at January 01, 2022 04:26 AM (F0YaR) 7
Happy New Year Late Night and Upside Down hoard members.
The "poor" in the US now get pretty much free or hugely discounted everything now, especially luxury items, and they'll still bitch and moan about wanting more. It's better to make $45k a year than $60k because you'll pay less in taxes and can cover the difference with all the free shit you can get. I'd say they can offer the poor a discount on a limited internet that gives them an email, connection to edu or gov sites, and a limited number of other sites, as we know 100% of the use will be tiktok and porn. Also almost through with Is it Wrong....Season 2, and I sure as hell didn't have "Bell getting repeatedly sexually assaulted (by someone other than Hestia) " on my possible plot bingo card. Too bad this season appears to be complete useless shit. Posted by: Rbastid at January 01, 2022 04:29 AM (DC2KL) 8
They beg you to let their ads onto your screen. But they've loaded up on so many ads and some of them that don't behave that they make the website impossible to use, especially if you have low powered setup, that you can't browse the website with any kind of linearity that you give up and go back to blocking ads.
They bring the lack of revenue on themselves or at least the people they let put ads on their website. I can't tell you how it felt for the first time using an adblocker. It was a long time ago and ads were less trouble back then but it was like taking a breath of mountain air. The experience was so clean and straight forward and fast. It was like buying a new computer. I've hardly ever not used one since. Greed will be the death of us all. Posted by: jakee308 at January 01, 2022 04:38 AM (PppPF) 9

honestly the best part of the show is the season 1 ending credits.
Posted by: Pixy Misa at January 01, 2022 04:52 AM (MqQvv) Yeah the chibi ending was cute and the closing song was good. The closing animation for the second season is basically just show clips. I still have 2 episodes to go, but season 2 feels basically like a bridge season, with pretty much no real plot or important information given, but made so that they can start season 3 with the characters in a completely different place from where season 1 ended (i hope that's the case and season 3 isn't also pointless) This could have easily been a 2 or 3 part OVA, but they needed to squeeze fans for the money while selling what ended up being softcore hentai. Today is Turkey Dinner with my younger brother and his wife. (They were at her family's for Christmas)
It's his idea for dinner today, and he had a turkey he wanted to cook, so here we are. Family dinners at mom's used to be 'the thing' but I'm pretty much over all of that. Especially since the workload now falls on me, and mom gets anxious over any change in routine. Akso, we're supposed to get a ton of snow today so daughter and son in law don't think they want to venture out with the grandbaby. Sad, but understandable. But, one more time to make put the leaves in the old dining room table, haul out the "good" dishes and use the silver! At least the house is still clean from last week. On the plus side, with said snow on the way, I finally made room in the garage here to fit my truck in. Took a bit of ingenuity, the garage is one of the things that still holds a bunch of dad's stuff that needs to be gone through, but i got it to work.
I really hate scraping windshields and moving vehicles around to be able to shovel! The streets in this village are narrow, no parking on them when it snows, and mom's driveway is one car's width wide and only two car lengths long. Needed to fit the truck in so brother and Mr. I have parking spots today. Posted by: My Life is Insanity at January 01, 2022 06:04 AM (Z/jzm) 30

I'm up with coffee, planning to greet the first dawn of '22 with a walk/run along the riverfront. Theoretically we have one more day of sticky heat, and we should get rain later and much cooler temps tomorrow morning, but I'm skeptical. Finishing up the second Dr. Gideon Fell novel, The Mad Hatter Mystery, John Dickson Carr from 1933. A couple of P. D. After trying half dozen I found one that was light, simple to use and minimal leakage (Sigelei-VPE). Once I committed to the vape (at first I was bumming a smoke or two a day from coworkers) for a solid two weeks the increase in endurance and smell and energy was incredible. 7.5 months now with no cigarettes. NY State has another brilliant idea...ban foam containers. Hardiest hit will be churches and other organizations like that. They have the drive thru chicken dinners. They will switch to plastic, which will cost more and probably use much more plastic. Restaurants of course will just raise prices, what other choice do they have for takeout.

Pixy, my question is, where can I get a SMALL android phone? I currently have a Sony Xperia Z2 compact. It's a little big, but I wouldn't mind using it forever except that its chipset doesn't play nicely with any of the US carriers (doesn't work with Verizon at all and kinda iffy with TMobile), so the phone part of it doesn't work reliably. But whenever I go looking for new phone candidates, they are all enormous.
(The best form factor of any phone I've had is still the HTC Rezound. Perfect size, and a curved back meant it fit comfortably in my hand. Who likes totally flat phones?? So uncomfortable to hold.) Posted by: Mrs. Peel at January 01, 2022 08:29 AM (8548M) 200

I am going to look for a new church. I went to church on Christmas Eve and almost cried because it was good to worship with the Body again. I'm still so angry and disappointed with basically every church other than John MacArthur's, because I believe they abdicated their temporal and spiritual responsibilities by yielding so tamely to being closed, but it's time for me to get over that. Maybe if I can get more involved, I can be in a position to influence the church away from cowardice in the future. Posted by: Mrs. Peel at January 01, 2022 08:35 AM (8548M) 214

Question for the vapers. Do all vape devices create large billowy clouds of smoke on exhale? Are there any that look more like a cigarette when exhaling? Posted by: olddog in mo at January 01, 2022 07:38 AM Visit a vape shop. They'll have a large selection that either crank out a Bob Marley worthy cloud (for the kids) or less powerful units where the vapor is almost invisible on exhale. I have some Chinese knock-off freebie tablet in my garage. The screen is delaminating so only about 2/3 is readable.
It has some personal identifiable info on it and currently it will power up, but is unusable... so I can't simply delete the data on it. So, I'm going to take it out back and use a 12 gauge eraser on it. Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 01, 2022 08:39 AM (BFigT) 224

The Israeli military's top-brass convened on Saturday for a situation assessment following rocket fire launched from the Gaza Strip, with senior officers examining different response scenarios, including retaliatory attacks.

-- It's more true than not, sad to say. Speaking of that evil company, I used to do AdWords or whatever it was called back then and it was as if a vacuum had been attached to my wallet and I could hear the money flying out. With very little return. I didn't do it for long, or I would've gone broke very quickly. There used to be a directory that you just had to be listed in for Google to find you. It was hard to get listed in it too, because if you were a reseller of any kind, you wouldn't get listed unless you brought something new to the table. I can't think of what that directory was called now! I managed to get listed in it and it did help me a lot. But here again, that was a long time ago. Things have changed dramatically, I'm sure. My guess is that most college grads today couldn't pass a 1940 high school exit exam.
Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at January 01, 2022 08:51 AM (bKdTl) 238
Part of the reason a high school diploma meant more 100+ years ago than it does now is that back then, not everyone graduated high school. When you mandate that everyone graduates high school, the result isn't that everyone magically gets smart enough to graduate. It's that school gets dumb enough for everyone to graduate.
Similarly, "educators" notice that kids who voluntarily take extra math in high school do better in college. So they mandate more math. But making everyone take Algebra II doesn't magically change students who take only the bare minimum of required math into students who voluntarily take extra math. All it does is destroy Algebra II, because you have to make it easier so everyone can pass. Posted by: Mrs. Peel at January 01, 2022 08:52 AM (8548M) 239

Of course, that's separate from the larger problem of math education, which is that math is taught in a way that makes it much harder than it needs to be. Math is really not hard at all. People think it's hard because it's taught so horribly. Almost as horribly as history, which is an endlessly fascinating subject but is taught as lists of names and dates.

See how, where we are here in some comments, the URL starts off with acecomments.mu.nu before the slash? Remember that. Now, click any old thread via the Archives (front page sidebar list), click "access comments," and notice that the URL hangs--and starts with minx.cc before the slash. Replace minx.cc with acecomments.mu.nu and voila. Posted by: m at January 01, 2022 10:54 AM (Pk5po) 250

I have a buddy who put everything he could into bitcoin when it was $60,000 and climbing every single day. He got mad at me because I didn't take all of my money out of savings and invest it in bitcoin like he did. He told me he was going to make over $40,000 in profit by the end of the year.
bitcoin ended the year at $47,000. Posted by: Mister Scot (Formerly GWS) at January 01, 2022 08:08 AM I've been doing bitcoin trading for most of a year now. It's actually a special case of an automated trading scheme that I've been working on for some years. Right now, I'm making just over $0.02 per transaction, which works out to 0.0015% of the stake. It does a LOT of transactions, though, so I expect to be in the 10% per year range. I can say my actual balance is up about $200 from where I started, about half of which is due to the increase in price from when I started. From where I sit, VPNs are rapidly becoming worthless, because every hosting service, like Cloudflare, has mapped out all their IP address blocks and won't let you through the firewall unless you either disable the VPN or install their own spyware IFF so they'll let you through "protected".
