CNN Contributor: "The Single Biggest Misconception [About the Media] Is That We're Lying," or "Politically Biased"

Of course she made this claim on Tater's Human Centipede Buffet.

She further claimed the media's bias actually redounds to the favor of conservatives.

The two biggest misconceptions about the legacy media are "that we are lying" and that they manifest "political bias," according to CNN's "Reliable Sources." The media's bias actually benefits the people journalists are biased against, the show insisted.

...

"The single biggest misconception is that we are lying," guest Mara Schiavocampo told host Brian Stelter on Sunday's episode, which tackled alleged common myths about the state of American journalism.

"There is a lot of media mistrust," she said accurately. Schiavocampo said she frequently encounters media misconceptions "when I'm at a cocktail party."

...

Mistakes are "almost always innocent," Stelter said. Schiavocampo asserted, "We do not have malicious intent."

...

CNN continued enumerating the common lies and errors about the media, with Shiavocampo saying "another big" misconception about the legacy media is that reporters suffuse their coverage with their own "political bias." She said it seems "really ironic," but "journalists are aware of our own political bias," and so "we'll overcompensate to make sure the other side really gets a fair amount of coverage and really gets explained properly."

"So in my view, when we do have a political bias, it's the other view that actually benefits from that because we're trying to counter our own human impulses," she claimed.

"That's very interesting," replied Stelter, who said that mistakes often creep in because of the network's "crazy workflow."

Meanwhile, Tater's show has lost 68% of its viewer since the first quarter of 2021.

Tater will not survive the Discovery purge.

He'll be a YouTuber soon enough -- attempting to make a living as one of the uncredentialed internet gabbers he's spent the last six years attempting to deplatform and demonitize.

CNN's "Reliable Sources" with left-wing host Brian Stelter wrapped up a dismal 2021 with a nine-month streak of failing to crack the one-million-viewer plateau as the program has struggled for relevancy during the Biden era.

Stelter, who spent years nitpicking former President Trump's every move, saw his audience erode throughout the year with President Biden in office. "Reliable Sources" averaged 1.4 million viewers during the first quarter but dropped to only 846,000 during the second quarter.

The program that claims to cover the media industry hovered in that range until the final three months of 2021 when it shed 50% of Q1 viewers to finish the fourth quarter with only 696,000 average viewers.

"Reliable Sources" lost even more viewers as the year went on in the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults age 25-54, losing a staggering 68% of its Q1 audience by Q4 by dropping from 299,000 demo viewers to only 95,000.

Stelter' program finished 2021 with an average audience of 947,000 to land outside the top 200 most-watched cable programs behind a variety of cartoons, reruns and niche programming, such as HGTV's "Wasted Space."

...

Stelter spent much of the year criticizing social media companies over "disinformation" and fretting about conservative media coverage. Along the way, he developed a reputation for ignoring or downplaying media stories that cast liberals and Democrats in a negative light.

53 Mistakes are "almost always innocent," Stelter said. Schiavocampo asserted, "We do not have malicious intent."

Those two statements are contradictory. If they are 'almost always' innocent, then there are necessarily and inevitably 'mistakes' which are NOT innocent and done deliberately. By her own admission, they have at least some malicious intent and do lie.

And, of course, every year, there are dozens of examples of that very thing happening: Deliberate lies, distortions, manipulations, and omissions for political bias.

I will buy that they generally are just trying to report the news, and try not to have any bias, because they are reporting on things like plane crashes and overseas disasters, etc. They don't mean to have any bias when they report on, say, an earthquake in Chile. They're trying to just get the facts out.

But for most of the news, they spin, distort, and worse, simply omit some things that are politically uncomfortable or counterproductive.

Everyone knows this is true, especially the people working for places like CNN.

I'm gonna have to throw a flag on this. Join me on a journey through time, back to the turn of the current century. As the internet started encroaching on the legacy media and the whole "citizen journalist" thing got going, this is precisely the argument that the legacy media used to delegitimize the talented amateurs who were putting out better work product. Essentially"
"News - especially breaking news - is fluid and usually full information is not available. The structure and accountability of the traditional newsroom helps improve accuracy because we have validation, confirmation, editors who cross-check, and an editor-in-chief who rigorously enforces accuracy and fairness. The citizen journalists don't have any of that and so while they may be faster, they are worse."

Stelter just threw that fiction under the bus. Hell, he threw it under an entire Trailways fleet. If you aren't accurate and your structures don't permit accuracy, and if you aren't fast, and if you aren't fair, and if you aren't honest, then what is it you do here?

I'll bet she isn't lying here. It is entirely possible that she actually believes this. She probably also believes the bit about biases favoring the parties they don't like.

Journalists tend to be both stupid and committed ideological agents. They believe that they are right and doing the right the thing to drag the rubes - kicking and screaming if needed - down the shining path to enlightenment. Their mistakes are in the name of rightness and justice and are innocent. Giving the opposition any airtime at all - even to pillory them - is more than they deserve.

Eventually this will get so big the media will have to take note and when they do the entire deal is going to blow up big time.

Once Rand Paul gets this he will be on it I would imagine quite quickly. Him and Robert F. Kennedy jr.

Excellent summation. He just admitted incompetence and sloth at the organization. CNN is huge, bigger than all three network news organizations combined back in 1970 and yet somehow they managed to bring us the news every night, in a shorter package.

CNN's gargantuan world network of 3000 employees plus thousands of stringers, contributors, interns, volunteers, and affiliate station workers enhanced by computers cannot keep up with the work load?

Pretty rapid rise, there. Lot of fortunate turns of events.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

If you're wrong and honest, you will probably have a good distribution of wrongness. You'll get things wrong across the board and along the entire political spectrum. Yet they don't, they're "wrong" only in one direction. This is, shall we say, unlikely.

This is *exactly* like the various reports during Russiagate that found all of these "mistakes" made by the various agencies. And yet those mistakes all went one direction. They were all mistakes *against* Trump, without a single mistake in his favor. It's statistically impossible for those to be mistakes.

92 Biggest news to get behind is an Insurance exec over the weekend stated that they've seen a 40% increase in Deaths. And an increase in disability both long term and short term.

Dr. Malone emailed this out and a couple others who are following the covid vaccine and the virus are also talking about this and one guy is looking for insurance whistle blowers (not really blowing any whistle except on the CDC and media's silence about it) to get him some more data that he can get analyzed and write about.

Eventually this will get so big the media will have to take note and when they do the entire deal is going to blow up big time.

Once Rand Paul gets this he will be on it I would imagine quite quickly. Him and Robert F. Kennedy jr.

169 I've been fascinated by the sudden hysteria among the Left to get Covid tested - emergency rooms in Vermont being swamped by healthy people demanding Covid tests, people in Portland waiting hours in the rain to get Covid tested, Oregon ordering twelve million at-home Covid tests for a state with four million people, etc.

If you're not sick enough to require medical attention, why bother?

I think that the key is that leftists were convinced that if they take The Correct Actions - being triple-vaxxed, wearing masks everywhere, etc. that They Were Safe From Covid. Even more intoxicatingly, they were the Good People, as distinguished from the unvaxxed, non-mask-wearing Bad People, who were entirely responsible for the epidemic, and deserved whatever happened to them.

And now, with Omicron, it appears that the vaccinated are more likely to catch it, that cloth masks don't work - i.e. all the ritual behaviors that leftists have been relying upon to Stay Safe have turned out to be largely useless.

Frequent Covid testing is a displacement mechanism - it is a way of demonstrating that you are still one of the Good People, even if the testing is largely pointless.

I think it's fear.

It's been shown that a very large percentage of Democrats (pretty sure it's around 40% of them) think that the likelihood of being hospitalized by covid is around 50%. They're convinced that covid is a death sentence.

So, they test all the time because they fear it so. They can't go without knowing whether they have it or not. And then, when they get a positive test, even without symptoms, they run to the hospital because they "know" that half of all covid people end up there. They need hospital help even fi they feel fine because the test said so.

These people are broken. You ever wonder why Biden can't simply declare victory over covid? It's because of people like this.

They were careful to not report some things and absolutely rigged events to get a story. They didn't get busted as often because the info was tough to get and almost entirely controlled by the media, but it was bad then.

A business that has to go on the air and claim innocence and well-meaning is one that is in trouble with the public.

Yeah, they're scared of catching the black plague. The perception is that death totals are higher than reported, because people misunderstand the data. For example, Oregon has a running total: cases and deaths. As of today, in Marion County (where I live) its 42126 total cases and 547 deaths.

But the Branch Covidian reads that and thinks its a recent total. Not "everyone in the history of mankind over the last 3 years" but like weekly or even daily.

Or is it just journalists that have the magical ability to completely ignore their biases? What about voir dire in jury selection - can't we just sit the first 12 people and expect them to put aside their biases? Or again, is it only journalists with the magical ability to completely ignore their own biases? I could go on and on . . . .

Yeah partly that, and partly "I gotta obscure enough of this so that Rome doesn't kill me and everyone who gets the letter". At least part of Revelation is about the upcoming horrors when Israel was wiped out and the Roman persecution of Christians really went hot.

The ancient city of Megiddo is now called Tell el-Mutesellim.

Zechariah 11, 12, 13, and 14 talk about all nations gathering against Jerusalem to battle. John says the kings of the earth and the whole world will gather to the battle of that great day of God almighty into a place called Armageddon, then Christ will come "as a thief" (unexpectedly).

You reminded me of how Pliny the Younger described the eruption of Vesuvius, which he witnessed from across the bay of Naples. He wrote a very detailed account of it, including stories of the rescue attempts made by the Roman navy at the time. He spoke of a cloud over the mountain that looked like a huge trunk of a tree stretching to the heavens, where it branched out and spread wide. I realized this was the first time any man in history had the opportunity to witness and describe a mushroom cloud. Let's us know how big the eruption at Vesuvius was.

Why is it always so vague? And why is it always something that's "about" to come out, yet never does? How many years are you folks going to play this game, with nobody ever coming out to make these "grand" pronouncements, and the data never seeming to actually back your claims?

40% increase in deaths? Meaningless, unless you can prove the vax did it. Didn't actually happen, because death stats don't support it. I could go on.

Not hard at all, considering that the agency reporting this has been operating since the 1800's, and said the 40% figure is "unprecedented" in their history.

What has changed in the last 125 years?

mRNA gene therapy injections worldwide, using humans as guinea pigs, and a million adverse reaction reports from people having no negative health conditions prior to taking the jab.

Dr. Zelenko, Dr. Ryan Cole, Dr. Mike Yadon, Dr. Peter Mccullough, Dr. Robert Malone, numerous nurses and signers of the B Declaration.

441 "The Single Biggest Misconception Is That We're Lying," or ...

This is a common problem, that people in a lot of different fields face. I myself have had to deal with women that I've met in bars that think I'm lying and just trying to get in their pants.

You might think that would be an instant strikeout, but you just have to realize that your intended demographic is the woman that wants someone to lie to her, so they can get into her pants.

CNN just has to set their expectations for attracting an audience so they realize they're only going to get the audience that wants to be lied to and have their misconceptions reenforced. Then realize that they are going to be alone a lot and come to terms with the fact that their few successes will be fleeting and empty.

My self help firm is just getting in to corporate consulting but contact me at.

I wonder why the .con domain scheme never too off, but I'm comfortable with it.
