CDC: We're Not Just Reducing the Length of Quarantine From 10 Days to 5, We're Also Ending the Requirement That You Test Negative Before Returning to Work

Oh? You can return to work even without a test showing you're no longer covid-positive?

That's a hell of change, isn't it?

Not to worry, the CDC's Rachel Wallensky says: This is a change based entirely on The Science, which apparently we just discovered after two years of experience with testing for covid.

The newly updated CDC guidelines don't require testing at the end of isolation because PCR tests can stay positive for up to 12 weeks, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told "Good Morning America" Wednesday.

"So we would have people in isolation for a very long time if we were relying on PCRs," Walensky said.

So people have been testing themselves with these PCR tests post-initial diagnosis for two years and this has been yielding false positives for up to 12 weeks post-infection, and no one bothered to say so until now?

What's really going on here?

Oh, right: "The Science" is lying to us again. Or rather, The Politics: Brandon dropped the ball on ordering up an adequate supply of tests, and now we don't have enough tests to test all the people who are about to get omicron.

So the CDC is telling people they don't need to get tested post-infection, to reduce the need for tests that we don't have because their boss is a senile incompetent.

And that's "The Science" in action!

President Joe Biden is closing out his first year in office facing one of the same problems he entered the White House vowing to fix: a persistent shortage of Covid-19 testing that, if resolved, could provide a way out of the still-raging pandemic.

...

Yet the failures surrounding testing have led to accusations that the White House failed to anticipate the pandemic's course and overemphasized vaccinations as a solution to ending the crisis, even as outside experts warned of a looming test shortage directly to administration officials.

Biden's team insists they took what steps they could in the fall to build up testing capacity but acknowledge that a surge in demand and relatively recent emergency use authorizations from the US Food and Drug Administration have made stockpiling at-home tests a challenge.

And the shortage of tests factored into the administration's decision Monday not to recommend tests for individuals exposed to the virus to emerge from a shortened five-day quarantine, according to an official familiar with the discussions.

"If we require a test, people are going to say, 'What if we can't get a test?' " the senior administration official said, recounting internal deliberations on condition of anonymity. "Rather than letting the perfect be the enemy of the good," the official said, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention opted for less stringent language, noting that "best practice would also include a test for SARS-CoV-2 at day 5 after exposure."

Biden himself has frankly acknowledged that his efforts have fallen short, particularly in scaling up testing, even as he seeks to take credit for other aspects of fighting the pandemic.

"It's clearly not enough. If I had -- we had -- known, we would have gone harder, quicker, if we could have," Biden said in describing his testing efforts this week while meeting virtually with governors. "We have to do more. We have to do better, and we will."

Other top health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, the President's top medical adviser, have similarly acknowledged the testing shortfalls in interviews. And White House press secretary Jen Psaki conceded last week that she could have provided more context when she dismissed the notion of sending tests to Americans just two weeks ago.

Actual scientists are perplexed by the Science Priests sudden new claims about what "The Science" scriptures are telling them, because this isn't science at all, this is all politics and bureaucratic ass-covering and a lot of covering up for the failures of a Democrat.

They're inventing made-up "science" to Manage Public Relations and to Reassure the Public that Brandon Knows What He's Doing.

Public Relations -- the highest form of The Science!

Meanwhile, while the nation faces a major shortage in over-the-counter covid tests, CNN's fat neurotic covid panic case -- okay, let me be more specific -- CNN's Chris Cillizza hoards an entire case of the tests.

Screenshot (1069).png

Binax is an OTC rapid covid test by Abbot Labs which was developed quickly with funds provided by -- checks notes -- oh, right, with funds provided by Donald Trump.

And what did Brandon do? Even as people were urging him to ramp up production of tests in case of a completely-unforeseeable disease-spiking event known as "the winter," he sneeringly rejected those calls to push production of tests. After all, we mustn't let anything interfere with The Message that the only protection is the vaccine and more vaccine and boosters and more boosters.

Experts had in fact proposed to Brandon that he act to surge test production.

Nelson asked about a report in Vanity Fair that Biden had been offered a plan in October by health experts to get 732 million test kits out to Americans before the holiday season hit so that could help reduce the crush of people wanting tests.

The 10-page plan, which Vanity Fair has obtained, would enable the U.S. to finally do what many other countries had already done: Put rapid at-home COVID-19 testing into the hands of average citizens, allowing them to screen themselves in real time and thereby help reduce transmission. The plan called for an estimated 732 million tests per month, a number that would require a major ramp-up of manufacturing capacity. It also recommended, right on the first page, a nationwide "Testing Surge to Prevent Holiday COVID Surge."

What happened to that? White House officials reportedly told the experts that they didn't think they had the capacity to do it and so rejected the plan.

Just before he called A Lid on the week at midday on a Monday to fly off to the beach, Biden lied and claimed he'd never "rejected" the plan.

Screenshot (1072).png

And then, just like that, he disappeared into the rain for another well-earned vacation week.

52 Sorry Ace, but I'm not with you on this. Mass testing of healthy and/or asymptomatic people with dodgy bullshit tests is a terrible idea with no purpose other than to ratchet up hysteria and paranoia.

I swear some of you cannot or will not read.

This is not about asymptomatic people testing themselves.

The policy concerns people who are confirmed to have covid. The policy is about them not getting tested AFTER five days to show they no longer are actively carrying covid before returning to work.

Also, if you'd read the article, you'd see this is not about "science" or "getting it right;" this is about them having fucked up and not having gotten enough tests (remember when they crucified Trump for that for a FULL YEAR?!?!) and now making up a reason for rationing the tests.

I'm really tired of the "Covid is Completely Fake" lobby. You see right there the selective editing they have to do to justify their position.

Can we at least agree that a guy who RAN ON A PLATFORM of accusing Trump of "willful mass murder" and having "blood on his hands" for not having enough tests when he was president should be held to his own standard and have enough tests to not invent new "science" to justify rationing tests?

Or are we just going to congratulate Brandon for his wisdom here?

Jesus.

42 PCR tests were set to be eliminated from use come 12/31/21 anyway. Since, as the FDA and CDC admitted months ago, they cannot distinguish between SARS-CoV-2 and inFLUenza. So part of this "we don't need to do as many tests anymore" narrative is probably due to that as well.

If people were paying attention, they would think to themselves "if the PCR tests we have been using for 22+ months cannot distinguish between SARS-CoV-2 and inFLUenza, then how has anyone confirmed that anyone has had SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 instead of influenza all this time? And does this mean that inFLUenza cases didn't actually drop from a yearly average of 30 million in USA to approximately zero over the last 2 years?"

If we hadn't gone full germaphobe the CDC would come out and say "in these areas omicron is dominant so NO testing is required." Then if there are pockets where the more severe covid strains are still around in significant numbers, they could concentrate the tests there.

72 ... What is the point of waiting up to a week to get the results, particularly if it's negative. And if it's positive, it delays treatment.
Posted by: Lizzy at December 29, 2021 12:29 PM (URNdm)
++++
Because testing has, since the beginning, been to build statistical models and "control spread." Making you wait on a negative is fine (up to a point) for the latter, but not for anything diagnostic. Testing has zero diagnostic value regardless of any delays (all of which are bad in that context) because we don't treat COVID.

If we treated COVID, rapid, accessible testing would be valuable. Get sick, take test, hit positive, begin outpatient treatment regimen. But early response and outpatient treatment protocols for COVID officially do not exist. The protocol for COVID is "go home until you can't breathe, then come to the hospital for monoclonal antibodies if you're lucky. If you keep getting worse, you get put on a vent until you die" - so testing is pointless from a treatment standpoint.

As a very confused actual physician I can say:
1. We've known for 20 months that you could have latency positive testing for 8 plus weeks after signs and symptoms of infection. Which is why we refused to retest; and almost certainly represents false reports of repeat acute covid illness; and almost certainly his contributed to the vastly overinflated death by covid numbers; and
2. Nobody has ever required a negative test for return to work, that was never in the CDC guidelines after they we're formalized (10 days and symptom free later 7 days and symptom free now 5 days and symptom free) and that has never been supported by government agencies (at least in my area of operation). I have seen it required from individual employers who we promptly reported to the state health agency for a spanking.

They lie so much and so often they can't even keep their own lies straight.

All those people who described having "COVID" as "it was like a bad flu". It was like a bad flu probably because it actually was a bad flu and not COVID.

But we'll never know, because just like they lied about "COVID deaths" to include "death for any cause within 30 days of COVID+ test"*, they also likely lied about COVID cases (where some high % of them were likely influenza cases).

*Since it's finally getting into the public that a COVID+ test result has a high false-positive rate, how many of the "COVID deaths" based on those faulty COVID tests were not actually COVID deaths.

There's nothing wrong with that. New information leads to new decisions. Learning you were wrong leads to new decisions. That's fair enough.

It also has nothing to do with COVID policy in any way. That is based not on information, but on corrupt insider dealing, power motivations, fear of their own weaponized base, a self-reinforcing media echo chamber, and various other factors. Data doesn't enter into it, and neither does the scientific method.

Baking is easy enough for a kitchen dunce like me to do.* Proper ingredients, avoid substitutions, exact measurements and then follow the recipe as described. There's a website called Sally's Baking Addiction and she breaks it all down really well with detailed steps. Try it someday, I think you'll be surprised.

They're going to get tremendously bad data if they ask questions like "are you vaccinated against COVID-19" or "at any point have you felt like your job was at risk due to COVID-19?"

They probably will ask those questions, and will get very unreliable data because nobody for whom the answers to questions like that are "no" will trust that the survey won't be used to bludgeon them if they tell the truth.

Exactly. I had an event I'd planned on going to for 2 f*ing years in September. Just days before I was leaving, a client called and said he had a "breakthrough" case along with his 2 year old son. I'd just spent the better part of a morning riding around in his family SUV getting shit at home despot the week before.

So, not wanting to catch it while I was gone - or give it to people I went and got a $150 instant 15 minute test at a test center. I tested positive. I was devastated I couldn't go, canceled my reservations. A week later I still felt fine - went and got a 24 hour test, and it was negative. So, false positive. And THEN I find out that's super common. F* this.

169 Once again...this is the wrong effing test. Unless Pfizer and Moderna have been lying (we'll know in 55 years)...they have identified the spike protein that combats the Covid virus naturally. Therefore, the only test we need is a simple blood test that identifies whether you possess sufficient (and strong enough) spike proteins to naturally fight the virus....eventually leading to a natural immunity.

Those without the appropriate natural defenses are free to secure the "vaccine" and take the appropriate action to lessen exposure.

There, I saved everyone two years of totalitarianism...and stole billions from Moderna and Pfizer to boot.

Yeah, it's clear. And it also exposes the magical thinking of the Biden campaign and his handlers. They were certain that things like this - test availability, drug availability, policy coherence, etc. - were simply because Trump was stupid. I am starting to think that they thought all of this was just because the Wrong Guy was running things, and that as soon as the Right Guy was running things, everything would be fine. I am starting to think that they really did think that all they had to do was say, "we shall have more tests" or "we shall have more medicines" and then they'd appear as if by magic.

They knew the media would not call them on it. They knew they could count on social media to censor anything that challenged their narratives- they're still doing it.

That's before we get to the fact that Brandon continuously lied about things like mandates and every other thing he said in the campaign. It's grotesque incompetence and the only "wins" Brandon managed came because the former administration did as good a job as could be expected.

--

I agree with this as a political stance, to score political points.

But the best thing for the country would be to just come a consensus that COVID is endemic. It's everywhere. Some are going to die from it, the vast majority will not. We don't need testing, or draconian measures. We need only use the basic common sense that people should have to stay home from work when they're sick. We need to get back to normal and mass testing doesn't allow for that.

We need to shrug our shoulders about COVID, put our pants on and live our lives anyway, with no special measures mandated or required.

Posted by: thathalfrican - The One at December 29, 2021 12:22 PM (BmQ4L)

Somebody claimed that test kits contained sodium azide ("a dangerous drug"). Somehow I doubt that it could be found on the swab you stick into your nose. More likely a reagent that "develops" the test. "Toxic" chemicals are harmless, if they don't enter your body.

The airbags on your car contain sodium azide. Feel poisoned yet?
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 29, 2021 12:59 PM (P3gRi)

The agent they're freaking about is ethylene oxide - it's commonly used to sterilize medical tools for the past hundred years. It's supposed to be mutagenic and carcinogenic when inhaled. And they've got a zillion videos showing the little fibers that come off in the swab testing and work their way to your brain. I'm probably a bit more concerned about the presence of graphine oxide in the jab drug, since they can't really explain why that's there in the first place.

307 Seems to be some slight confusion about the testing issue ace.

Mass testing of asymptomatic people *was* idiocy - but the key thing is that it was just PART of an ENTIRE FRAMEWORK that is/was idiocy, extremely destructive idiocy.

That framework being the entire set of assumptions that you can "mitigate" (or my favorites, "fight" or "stop") an already prevalent highly infectious respiratory virus - short of a true, sterilizing vaccine. There has been zero evidence of this in a century of actual scientific research, and now 2 years of massive confirmation that there is no reason to believe we can.

The "Covid is Completely Fake Lobby" has been stupid and tiresome from the start. But the more important error is accepting all or part of the false framework to bash (justifiably) the idiot children now in charge.

The local news said as much last week, I think. The flu vaccine will be less effective than usual this year because the dominant strain is not the strain for which they ramped up flu shot production. You should get it anyway, as it might lessen symptoms for the dominant strain and keep others safe.

There. That took five minutes of my local news broadcast, but the two-sentence summary contains all of the information it did.

322 Could it be down to the idea that flooding your body with antigen makes you less able to fend off simultaneous infection? Is it weakening of the immune system? I don't know. No one knows! _______________

Did you see this?
https://tinyurl.com/4yr5m4pp

Very disturbing. These docs (an immunologist and a pathologist) say that the vaccines cause cells in the body's organs to express the spike protein, which they would never naturally do. Any cell which expresses this foreign antigen (i.e. the spike protein) then comes under attack by the body's immune system. They say this is what is causing the instances of myocarditis or even cardiac arrest in younger people that we've been hearing about.

All the testing and politicization certainly doesn't help to get a clear picture of the data. But we might have some starting assumptions based on past experience with other diseases. These aren't certainties but what we would normally consider to be most likely.

1. Symptomatic people are the ones who can spread
2. The disease mutates to become less deadly over time
3. It's not possible to differentiate from similar diseases with cheap mass tests
4. Being highly contagious and mutating frequently (as the baseline is a cold), vaccination and lockdowns will not ultimately do away with the virus

371 One final point to my comments above which have engendered some controversy: The backing away from mass testing isn't because F. Joe Biden fucked up with ordering tests (which he did). If that was true, then the CDC wouldn't also be revising the quarantine from 10 days to 5.

Something else is going on. I think the backing away from mass testing is an implicit admission that CV19 and its hysteria is hurting Biden and Congressional Dumocraps and they want it to go away or at least dump it on the states. Indeed, Biden made that clear when he admitted there was no federal solution.

I said for a while now that the hysterical Covid monster the gov't created has turned on its creator. Funny how that always happens.

372 Didn't read all the comments, don't know if the other major problem with PCR tests was mentioned - the number of cycles run, which determines the confidence level in the results. Not sure about today, but at various points during The Great Idiocy different jurisdictions had widely varying cycle counts, with many using levels (above 30, forget the exact level) that yielded very dubious results.

Even the eventual, research or academic value that might have derived from mass asymptomatic testing (conceptually, it's there) seems unlikely to be realized, since the quality of the data will be s**t. Apples, oranges, bananas, guavas, and many of these things not even reliable in their own right.

But in my lifetime, they've been much, much more frequent than the past. And in recent years, the last 20, it's just constant. From one to the next and then to the next, with barely any time to take a breath.

I think part of it is increasing penetration of mass communications, and part is carefully cultivated mass ignorance. High-tech dark age intellectual barbarism.

428 Ace, I won't argue whether or not there is Covid, but I will argue that the majority of the death is from neglect of patients, isolation and mistreatment.

A lot of that is due to very bad incentives in healthcare and "public health', by medical practice being taken over by Very Very Large companies who care A Very Much about profits, and the fear of retaliation by a lot of people who have had their lives destroyed for someone else's profit sharing agreement.

The last part is very concerning because demonization of corporations and political people who place profit and power above the health of the electorate has been going on from before when Hillary started trying to push National Health for the US.

From here on it will be patch-patch and trying for a last grab at the fabled brass ring to validate all the lies and death.

Well, actually, the entire country is caught in the middle, has been from the outset, thus the destruction.

And you'll notice who's president, and who isn't. That's all that matters.

434 I've not used the term "pureblood" personally but have never interpreted it that way. Rather, I see it as ironic pushback against the truly Nazi-esque tendency by left-wing totalitarians--both within and outside of govenments--to label anyone who has not been injected with this shit as filthy disease-carriers who should not be allowed to live. But, YMMV.

While it may be ironic or not, that isn't how it comes off. It isn't ironically accepting the label like we took on 'deplorables' or 'flyover country' in the past, its making a new group tag like the other collectivists. That's why those that don't qualify for whatever reason find it less than amusing.

A lot of people are hoarding these things, because they've made them a necessity for people wanting to live a normal life. They been locked down, jabbed, boosted, and rapid-tested for the promise of normalcy ad nauseum. To be fair to the "dogmatic," most testing is bullshit, regardless of the premise of the article being Brandon's failures and magical science.

444 I think there is a radical side like that of "the squad" which is likely aligned with the WEF and Great Reset goals. While there is the more rational side like Joe Manchin which is thinking politics as usual and wants this to go away. I still can't figure out which side Biden's handlers have him as the puppet figurehead. Some days it seems he's a puppet for WEF goals, some days it seems he's out spouting more rational things. Considering many think Obama runs a shadow government, I wonder which side Obama is on.
Posted by: Clyde Shelton at December 29, 2021 01:27 PM (Do5/p)

It isn't a two valued solution. Biden's handlers are a faction, but not a dominant one. So they have to sell his name to other factions on a case by case basis to get what they want. Hence the incoherence of policy as faction X does what it wants until it needs Biden, then they have to horsetrade, one side flipping based off backroom deals.

Posted by: antisocial justice beatnik at December 29, 2021 01:44 PM (DTX3h)

449 Yeah. You don't need to test negative for something that's basically a cold.

And now that they've gotten their foot in the door of mandates and passports and masking they'll back off for a while and let people digest the new normal and get to the point of that dog in the burning room saying "this is nice".

By 2 years there will be a mandate for an app to have that can be displayed for anyone who needs to see your medical record. You won't have to show it to anyone who doesn't need to know it. Of course who that is will slowly change.

Oh and btw just for some more convenience you can bank (this already happens) and pay and receive using your cell phone. And also regrettably everyone will have to have a cell phone. Even those who are poor. (they already get a semi smart phone thru the Life Line program. They're not that bad a phone and it's free so far)

Then in another couple years, "you know that we've stopped paying out in cash? Well now we're allowing anyone who wants to not receive payment in cash. In fact you won't be able to get cash anywhere. It's expensive and no one needs it anymore. Right comrade?

Posted by: jakee308 at December 29, 2021 01:44 PM (6R0HD)

450 Oh and btw you missadded your balance in your checking account but that's okay as we went ahead and corrected that for you.

No need to thank us. Also since tax time is coming up unless you want to be overcharge for your taxes you need to submit to your bank any deductions and payments that were made outside of your checking account? And also submit form 222A-F that explains why you did not use your authorized checking account to pay that guy who does your garden and the money you got from selling some antiques.

So. Cheers comrade!

I was also wrong in 2002-2003 thinking it was realistic to democratize the M.E.--which was far more catastrophic for the world and America's health and self-respect than any belief in the 2020-End-Date-TBD pandemic has been--though the latter is catching up fast

Posted by: Swamposphere at December 29, 2021 02:55 PM (PvaKb)

455 You have the policy wrong. It has never been the case that you had to test negative before returning to work. Schools never bothered if kids tested negative after a ten or 14 day quarantine. I thought this was because people are less contagious at that time, but perhaps this was a CDC lie and the real reason was the tests are unreliable.

This may be more of an issue now for 5 days without symptoms.
