If you don't understand completely the character of the Lord, consider this, though I am no scholar or expert.
He came from the smallest town, from which nothing good can come. He was born in scandal, in the poorest of circumstances. Those that heralded his coming were lowly agriculture workers. His childhood years were spent as an enemy of the state, hiding in foreign lands. He had no home, no possessions. He discipled those that were despised by society. He marched into scoffing and persecution and faced a gruesome death. God does not esteem what the world esteems. He suffered every way imaginable. If you are suffering in this world now, you are closer to Him. Take heart, a nothing, nobody by worldly standards, changed the world forever and here we stand 2000 years later still praising His name and celebrating His arrival. President Biden got a visit from a Christmas troll Friday when a father participating in the annual White House NORAD Santa-tracking call used the phrase "Let's Go Brandon," the slangy stand-in for "F* Joe Biden."
The dad, identified only as Jared from Oregon, wished the president and first lady Jill Biden a merry Christmas before adding the anti-Biden phrase at the end of his family's portion of the call. "Merry Christmas and let's go Brandon," the father said as he signed off. "Let's go Brandon, I agree," Biden said without missing a beat. Boss Moss (#350):
Yes, many (most? just about all?) Chinese restaurants in the U.S. are open on Christmas. I walked by my local 'China King', across the parking lot from the local cheap motel (Howard Johnson) today, and they had a sign on the door saying just that - New Year's too. If you're not Christian, or not religious at all, it's a good day to make some money feeding Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Satanists, and other locals with unChristmasy attitudes. 416: Yes, it's a good thing to know for Christmas emergencies: e.g. if your stove dies just before you start cooking the turkey and none of your neighbors is home, you can always order Chinese takeout. Or if you don't make it to grandma's for Christmas because your flight is cancelled or you're caught in a snowstorm driving there, and you have to stay in a hotel by yourself on Christmas, you don't have to sit in your room eating the expensive crap in the mini-bar. If there's a Chinese restaurant in town - and there usually is - you can get something quite nice, though not very Christmasy. And meet the local Jews and Satanists, too, if you want company.

Back in the day there used to be a Christmas-time only bock bier (think it was bock bier) by Moctezuma, the maker of Dos Equis. Noche Buena. Beautiful decorative foil label.
At least here, it wasn't in wide distribution, you had to know where to get it. This was long before the craft beer explosion and the general explosion of stuff and choices and variations and special this and seasonal that. So, more special. Other SoCal'ers of the correct vintage may remember this. Posted by: rhomboid at December 25, 2021 01:31 AM (OTzUX) 529

Miklos I semi-recall something about that, probably my parents, describing how a small crate of oranges was a very big deal/gift indeed when they were young (northeast USA), as citrus was not always easy to find.
One time I jumped in a line in Leningrad before knowing what it was for (trying to be a good russki), turned out to be US oranges. Got a few stern looks (well more than usual) but didn't feel too guilty buying the limit and sharing with the others back at the dorm. Cold War is hell, after all.
