The Atlantic Publishes a Piece Stating that Covid Is Over, and Its Readers React Insanely

The leftist media keeps publishing pieces like this -- you'd almost think it was some kind of, I don't know, coordinated propaganda messaging campaign.

I wrote yesterday about the New York Times publishing an Op-Ed -- that's their own editorial board's opinion -- that it's time to stop panicking about covid and treat it as an endemic disease, like the flu, that will be with us seasonally, and live our lives as we live them with the flu. That is, normally.

As I wrote yesterday:

This is hurting the left -- it was this issue, specifically school closures at the behest of the teachers unions, that flipped Virginia to the Republicans -- so suddenly the New York Times is counselling those it instilled panic in for two years, entirely for crude, cynical political purposes, to not panic so much.

Again, for crude, cynical political purposes. They just want to blunt the Red Wave.

Covid Panic had been a useful political tool. Now it is politically harmful.

Democrat politicians seem to be realizing this. Colorado's Democrat governor Jared Polis says he won't mandate masks, because "the emergency is over."

'The emergency is over,' according to Governor Jared Polis, who explained on Colorado Matters on Friday that vaccines have changed the COVID-19 landscape, rendering masks useful but not required in the state's fight against the pandemic.

...

The Governor spoke about why he favors vaccination over mask mandates, despite many metro counties having implemented their own mandates to help control the spread of the virus. "Public health [officials] don't get to tell people what to wear; that's just not their job," the Governor said.

Even the witch Gretchen Whitmer is now... criticizing Biden's vaccine mandates.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, in her strongest public remarks to date about President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for employers, said Monday that the requirement is "a problem" for her and state government, according to a published report.

The Daily News in Greenville reported Whitmer as telling business leaders in Montcalm County that she had the same concerns as some of them that the mandate, if enforced, could lead to workers, including those in state government, walking off the job.

"We're an employer too, the state of Michigan is," Whitmer was reported as saying. "I know if that mandate happens, we're going to lose state employees. That's why I haven't proposed a mandate at the state level. Some states have. We have not, we're waiting to see what happens in court."

Whitmer is, get this, up for reelection in 2022. And not only did she impose draconian lockdowns and close the schools for a year and force nursing homes to accept covid patients, killing thousands, but she did all that while also overseeing one of the worst covid infection and fatality rates in the country. *

Biden gave his second big signal of the year a few days ago that covid needs to end. That they need to declare victory and move on.

It's not Republicans he's pleading to. It's the media. "Please stop reporting on cases and new variants every day. I need political capital to pass BBB, and I don't have that if my key campaign promise of 2020 is a pile of smoldering ashes."

So it is time to tell the brainwashed left that the war with Oceania is over, and it's time to resume the war with the country we've always been at war with, Eurasia.

Again, this isn't about Science, this isn't about Health, this isn't about Freedom, this isn't about America.

This is solely about the Marxist front organization called the Democrat Party and its electoral fortunes in 2022. The left has finally realized that the majority of the public has had enough of the constant covid panic and will punish whatever party is pushing that constant panic.

Tucker Carlson claims it's The Atlantic, maybe more than the New York Times, which now tells Establishment Media Liberals what to think and what to tell their audiences to think.

So this is The Atlantic now issuing a coding update to the NPCs.

Where I Live, No One Cares About COVID

Outside the world inhabited by the professional classes in a handful of major metropolitan areas, many Americans are leading their lives as if COVID is over.

by Matthew Walther

In November, my wife asked me whether I had seen an article with the remarkable headline “Is It Safe to Go to Thanksgiving Dinner?”
“Is that from last year?” I asked.
“No, it’s a few days old,” she said, her voice sinking to a growling murmur. “These people.”

I am old enough to remember the good old days when holiday-advice pieces were all variations on “How to Talk to Your Tea Party Uncle About Obamacare.”

As Christmas approaches, we can look forward to more of this sort of thing, with the meta-ethical speculation advanced to an impossibly baroque stage of development. Is it okay for our 2-year-old son to hug Grandma at a Christmas party if she received her booster only a few days ago? Should the toddler wear a mask except when he is slopping mashed potatoes all over his booster seat? Our oldest finally attended her first (masked) sleepover with other fully vaccinated 10-year-olds, but one of them had a sibling test positive at day care. Should she stay home or wear a face shield? What about Omicron?

I don’t know how to put this in a way that will not make me sound flippant: No one cares.

Literally speaking, I know that isn’t true, because if it were, the articles wouldn’t be commissioned. But outside the world inhabited by the professional and managerial classes in a handful of major metropolitan areas, many, if not most, Americans are leading their lives as if COVID is over, and they have been for a long while.

....

I don’t mean to deny COVID’s continuing presence... What I wish to convey is that the virus simply does not factor into my calculations or those of my neighbors, who have been forgoing masks, tests (unless work imposes them, in which case they are shrugged off as the usual BS from human resources), and other tangible markers of COVID-19’s existence for months—perhaps even longer.

He makes two points: One about the bizarre spectacle of outdoor masking, something you only see it blue cities, which he finds especially strange as people put on their masks to go outside after not wearing them indoors at a restaurant.

Another good point is about the absurdity of "public health authorities," who make pronouncements that no one takes seriously like "having one unit of alcohol per day" is dangerous to your health.

He points out that almost all adults are capable of dismissing this crap as pure CYA bureaucrat busywork bullshit.

Except in the singular case of covid -- where blue state progressives take every similar hypercautious, ultra-alarmist claim about the perils of jogging maskless perfectly seriously and perfectly gravely.

Now this is written from a conservative point of view and is published more to stir discussion than to convert progressives to this way of thinking.

But yet it is published in The Atlantic, which would have been unthinkable just six months ago (LETHAL DISINFORMATION!).

And it does seem as if it's being positioned as an "extreme" which will allow leftwingers to "triangulate" around, to find a more reasonable mode of living. In other words, by offering this "extreme" (spoiler: it's not extreme), leftists can then say "well maybe we can move away from our own extreme overreaction to covid, and find someplace more reasonable in the middle."

Again, a push to deprogram the left from the hysteria the media-political complex had previously programmed into them.

Not for any noble purpose.

Just out of terror for the coming carnage of 2022 if the Democrats go to the polls with more Lockdowns Forever and Masks For Toddlers messaging.

But it's very hard to deprogram a cultist. It's even harder when the cult itself tries to deprogram the cultist -- say, isn't this the exact opposite of what you were saying about the Cosmic Omni-Squid Gleitzuraq and his All-Connecting Astral Tentacles just five months ago?

John "pro-norms" Ekdahl has been retweeting the Faithful reacting violently to the Science Priests issuing these new heresies.

Here is a sampling. I will omit names and handles unless it's blue check or something.

I mean, thanks for keeping us informed that people are still huge pieces of shit who will keep this pandemic going for far longer than it ever had to. What an utter "common man" fuckwit.

He means "will keep the pandemic going by not keeping on their masks during sex and giving their toddlers nineteen boosters." Not "keeping it going by seeding constant panic about it."

Please get this fake bible thumper moron off my timeline. He lives in a little uncaring bubble, good for him. Next.

Love when deranged cultists accuse others of being too religious.

I'm cancelling my subscription, this is ridiculous!!!!

1, tolerance for free speech and all that, 2, no one on Twitter reads anything not on twitter. Who you foolin', dum-dum? The four exclamation points are a dead give-away that you do not read anything on paper.

What is this garbage? I expect articles like this in Redneck MAGA fan weekly, not The Atlantic. Seriously rethinking my subscription. Ew.

"Ew." Push "X" to doubt she reads anything.

At least this guy admits it:

And this is precisely the type of BS garbage article why I don't bother subscribing to this magazine. Its like those so-called antivaxxer conspiracy FB friends/acquaintances I've blocked & got rid of. Good F*@kg riddance.

If I've learned anything in my almost 29 years on this earth, its that anyone who brags about blocking "friends" on FaceBook as one of his major accomplishments is totally Winning At Life.

Do better Atlantic. Publishing this Rightwing AstroTurf cult-driven propaganda only harms the vast majority of REAL Americans trying to save lives and mitigate mass death, at 800K dead and counting. Please take this down.

Do Better, I love it.

I think The Atlantic might just take it down -- and I will love that.

people just keep dying when you publish irresponsible, badly thought-out, badly written pieces like this from people who already have their own outlet. You should be ashamed of this kind of article. It's beneath you. It's dangerous.

They already have their own schools, I mean their own outlet.

Note the ever-reliable justification for censorship and the stifling of debate: "It's dangerous." It "causes harm." It makes people "feel unsafe."

Why the f*ck did you publish this drivel? Seriously, why?

Super-emotive language. This person has a male name.

Shame on @theatlantic for publishing this anti-science screed.

The Science Priests shall enter your names in the Book of Woes!

How the f*ck can you publish incredibly insightful and clear-eyed pieces on COVID from the likes of James Hamblin and Ed Yong ... and then run THIS wildly insulting and irresponsible take?

Two key words there:

1. "F*ck." Leftwingers really love cursing, especially those who live on Twitter. They think it makes them seem "authentic" and rebellious. To be honest, that's why I've really reduced my own cursing. They've made it seem really uncool.

2. "Insulting." He makes it pretty clear that his worldview, his identity, is all about covid panic, and this article insults his identity as a proud Hysteric-American and Person of Neurosis.

What in the actual Jesus f*ck is wrong with you people?

It just goes on and on and on and on. Check his timeline for more.

Screenshot (982).png

A search for "@theatlantic" and "subscription" yields a lot of returns of people cancelling or threatening to cancel subscriptions.

Or pretending to have subscriptions which they then pretend to cancel.

John 'pro-norms' Ekdahl

@JohnEkdahl

AllahPundit should start a Substack with all these people cancelling subscriptions.

* But see also Gavin Newsom, who, fresh off his recall win (if you can call it that), feels invulnerable and has imposed yet another statewide mandate.

But he now knows he is King of California and has nothing to fear from the peasants. Not every blue state governor enjoys that privileged position.

12 I've said this before but worth repeating....

A poll asked Democrats, what % of people with Covid do you think are hospitalized? The result was 41% of Democrats believe this.

The actual number is less than 1%.

So if you are a CNN watching Democrat and you think 4/10 people with Covid are in the hospital, then yeah you'll freak out when someone says it's over.

I had the most ridiculous thing happen yesterday. Had a company over doing some work on our house. Some dude in a fancy Escalade did a slow roll by our house, then stop. Dude with a mask then rolls down the window and corners one of the workers to try to get him to ask if we'd sell this guy our nearly 2 decades old pickup. Worker comes back in laughing (he's working sans mask all day) and told me what happens. I told him basically "fuck that guy" and we both had a good laugh. Watched him sit out there in the middle of the road in front of our house for a while waiting like a tard until he finally gave up and left.

Pretty sure it's just a continuation of their war on meat.

Make it hard for them to do business (vax mandates harm staffing, new taxes, expensive regulation, general supply chain issues), demonize them for global warming, and then when they have to raise prices to deal with Biden's stuff, they will point and call them greedy. Win-win for Biden team.

A few choice quotes:
1. Maybe in rural Michigan, but not in the semi-sane parts of the country. Here the majority of people wear masks.

8. They might think they are done with covid, but covid isn't done with them.

16. Just sounds like the usual GOP jackass going on about "the elites" Really, he doesn't know anybody who had Covid? He doesn't know anyone who was ever concerned about it? He doesn't know ANYONE who had a booster shot? His kids see masks so rarely they are frightened by them? REALLY?...I don't buy this dude's garbage, at all. I think it's fiction.

They would have been lower; improper treatment killed a ton of people, as did bad infection control advice. I happen to know for a fact that while the media was blathering on with incorrect info, nursing homes that did NOT have a ton of deaths were taping up sheet plastic and segregating wings and changing cleaning methods - treating it as an airborne and fecal problem months before the media came clean.

Vitamin D would have axed nearly all of it from the get-go. Not using vents and a proper regimen of certain antioxidants or other treatments would have handled most of the remainder that got through.

Back in September they published an article based on research that showed about half of hospitalizations coded with a COVID-19 diagnosis were probably not for COVID treatment. Over a million deaths will be laid right at his feet, and he'll have no way of escaping the trap because of his history of bragging about Operation Warp Speed.

It's like steering a supertanker. Once they've flooded the zone with panic, you can't just turn off the spigot. To get people to do as they were told their children were masked and threatened with death for noncompliance. That sticks in the lizard brain for a long time.

The media had a chance to help with this when septuagenarian Trump showed up on that balcony after he was supposed to be dead from COVID any day now, back in October. That was their chance to break the spell, but they couldn't because Trump. The next opportunity isn't coming for a long, long time.

The witch hunts were historical examples of this. Nazi and Stalin show what the modern state can do with this. And we're seeing now what the really modern state can do with it.

Ten days ago, I attended the wedding of a relative in Los Angeles. The groom is an up-an-coming professional, the bride from a well-off Mexican family; there's money on both sides. The wedding was lovely, the food was excellent. Among the guests, I saw one or two with a mask on, otherwise we were all bare-faced. However, all the "help" were ragged up. But the actual hospitals that are overflowing? All illegals using the ER as their family clinic. Baby with colic, grease burns, pink eye, herpes, knife wounds all don't really do much to enhance the narrative.

A digital meat thermometer is your friend. As is starting the grilling over direct heat then finishing it on foil.

My preferred method is derived from Alton Brown. Direct high heat for 2 mins, rotate 90 degrees (for the diamond shaped grill marks) and flip after 2 mins. Repeat the 2 min, rotate, 2 min method on the other side. Then move to foil and check temp. One more flip on the foil after a few mins, then bring it up to approx 7 degrees below final desired temp. Wrap the meat in the foil to retain juices and remove to rest for at least 5 mins to reach final desired temp.

Part of the exodus from blue cities has got to be the strengthening of rural and suburban county populations. People moving out of the cities because of covid restrictions and deciding that enough is enough. On balance, it should lead to a greater red tilt in state legislatures over the coming years, especially next year.

Suddenly...state level mechanisms for things like voting integrity get easier because the suburbs are sending more Republicans. Not easy, but easier.

486 This is what they are saying around here:

The Vaccines have always been a "Plan B" for those that fail at protecting themselves and get exposed to the virus.
The first and best thing to do is to NOT GET YOURSELVES INFECTED TO BEGIN WITH.

Again, vaccination always been the backup plan so that the immune system can be prepped and ready to do it's job and fight off the virus in the blood and cells. It's always been wrong and foolish to run around thinking "I'm vaccinated" and not wear a mask or keep distant at costco or anywhere else for that matter.

Again, it's always been the backup plan if the first tier of defense fails and the person gets exposed / infected and it's allowed our society to keep itself marginally safe against those that fail to understand or care enough to help protect others in our society.

Agree. While C19 wasn't going to annihilate our population, the panic absolutely had the world economy on the ropes. We needed to do something to break the panic, and Operation Warp Speed did that. What should have happened was that once it came out, we ramp up production and get it to everyone who really wanted it, declare it defeated, and move on.

Of course, that didn't happen. Trump has nothing to be ashamed of here; he wasn't responsible for distribution in 2021, Biden was.

505 "Most people, when not bombarded by propaganda, make rational decisions constantly when it comes to evaluating risk."

Are you sure? Most studies I've seen say that people are pretty bad at evaluating risk. We tend to over-weigh risk and under-weigh benefit when making any risk analysis. For example: I hate to fly. I'd rather drive hundreds of miles than get in an airplane. Rationally, I know that flying is far safer than driving - that, in fact, the riskiest part of any flight is the drive to the airport. But that little voice that resides in the base of my brain keep steering me into my car, and I find it really tough to ignore it.

537 We are now in an age of endless psychosis.

They will fix on a new psychosis. There will always be a "Next Psychosis."

Reminds me of how Rush Limbaugh called the media the "drive-by media". Now the drive-bys are psychoses, instead of bullets or media news stories.

You got a bunch of renegades in a car and they drive into a crowd and they start spraying bullets around and they head on down the highway and make a total mess of things. They ruin some people. They kill some people in the case of Drive-By shootings. Then they head on down the highway and they do it again. Meanwhile, other people have to clean up the mess. The Drive-By Media is the same way. They come in with their cameras and their microphones and their news reporting, and they create an absolute mess. They scare the hell out of people. They literally cause carnage. Their actions sometimes are destructive and ruinous to individuals. They kill the reputations of people, or try to. And then they get in the convertible, they head on down the highway and they find the next group of people to do the same thing to while there are those of us who have to go in and clean up the mess.

Great stuff, really filled the corners. But it was a once-a-week thing for a night with the guys. I shudder to think of their prices now. Probably cut back on the peanuts, too.

581 Cooking a pork chop without drying it out, is a skill.
Posted by: Hope and Change my sweet a$$

That's it, really.

I just don't have enough "time" cooking pork to know how to grill it perfectly.

I have a pellet grill, and have been in love with reverse searing, it works incredible. For steaks (or chops) prep as you normally would, then throw on low 220 smoke. A chop depending on size is about an hour fifteen, a flat iron steak about 45 minutes. Then, put on the hottest grill setting and sear the crap out of both sides. Steaks are perfectly "cooked" rare all the way through, chops are moist and juicy perfect. Plus, a nice smoky taste. Beef is best with oak or mesquite, pork a blend is nice and not overpowering. I've been on a flat iron binge lately, because it's cheap, and since few people buy it it's often discounted because getting close to the best by date (pre packaged). Tasty cut and super-tender cooked this way.

582 "Why are ribs and bacon so delicious, but pork chops are kinda meh?"

Two reasons, IMHO. First, fat. Fat tastes good, and ribs and bacon are loaded with the stuff. Chops, not so much.

Second, preparation. Because they're leaner, chops needs to be marinated or basted, then cooked more slowly over a lower flame. I usually baste my chops with olive oil that's infused with rosemary and garlic, then cook them very slowly in a ribbed pan. Leave just a hint of pink in the middle. I serve them with home-made pear sauce: delicious!

583 555 Kroger first went woke about 3-4 years ago. Thats when I quit shopping there. Then Walmart got woke, stopped shopping there. Now I shop at a little mom and pop grocery. They remember me and seem happy to have my business, without any mask bullshit.
Posted by: Xipe Totec at December 14, 2021 04:36 PM (o2MD2)

I don't think there IS a mom and pop grocery near me. It's all major brands. We end up choosing where we go based on certain foods each place has that is better - like the salmon cuts are better at Safeway than at Fry's. We do have a statewide local grocer that we prefer, so they're in the rotation. The crunchy groceries are 100% off the list, though. Bunch of mask nazis. They will never get my business again, not even for the superior ketchup and sausage.

590 "Boomers most certainly did, and do, think about mortality. This is the problem. In the same way Boomers were the first on the planet to discover Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll, and had all the answers to Everything, they also discovered they are the first generation to get old and die."

Speaking as a card-carrying Boomer (born 1952), you're absolutely right, as were our parents. I well remember my mother, who grew up during the Depression, exclaiming: "You kids! You think your shit doesn't stink!" Yeah, we were *that* in love with ourselves. Though for sheer narcissism, the current batch of kids is giving us a run for the money.

Keep in mind The Clot Shot has all the same possibilities for immune system dysfunction as the real virus, and immune dysfunction is part of how it kills.

597 "That's why I haven't proposed a mandate at the state level. Some states have." -- Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer

----

That is why the mandate needs to be challenged as a 4th amendment violation. Medical decisions are a private matter at least as much as phone calls and text messages -- which have long been recognized as protected from warrantless searches by 4A. A state legislating that citizens arbitrarily show proof of vaccination is a warranteless search of a citizen's person and effects (medical records). State laws mandating vaccination need 4A challenges. The federal mandate was stayed because it violates separation of powers, but the court did not rule on privacy violation.
