Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | CNBC Poll: Republicans Lead by Ten Points for Control of CongressFirst, Brandon's numbers are bad: President Joe Biden's overall approval rating stabilized at a low level of 41%, according to the CNBC All-America Survey. Biden's approval rating on handling the economy and dealing with the coronavirus both declined. At 46% approval to 48% disapproval, Biden’s approval rating on the coronavirus is now underwater for the first time. His economic approval sank more deeply underwater, with 37% approving compared to 56% who disapproveThe nasty senile r@pist demagogued the virus and and took advantage of the virus that his Chinese Business Partners created to take out his Chinese Business Partners' enemy: "We gotta beat it back before we shut it down. Look, this is gonna take time worldwide. In order to beat COVID, we need to shut it down worldwide," Biden replied when asked if he still intended to "shut down" the virus during a Dec. 3 press conference.Back to the poll: Can it get worse? Indeed it can. The approval rating among those who voted for him has dropped from 80% to 69% in the April survey. There have been notable declines among Americans 18-34 and suburban residents, both of whom, in dramatic swings, now register net negative views on the president. As bad as Biden's number may be, the polling data for Democrats in Congress is far worse. Republicans now sport a historic 10-point advantage when Americans are asked which party they prefer to control Congress, holding a 44%-34% margin over Democrats. That's up from a 2-point Republican advantage in the October survey. In the past 20 years, CNBC and NBC surveys have never registered a double-digit Republican advantage on congressional preference, with the largest lead ever being 4 points for the GOP. "If the election were tomorrow, it would be an absolute unmitigated disaster for the Democrats," said Jay Campbell, partner at Hart Research Associates and the Democratic pollster for the survey. There's an interesting thing that happens with highly gerrymandered seats. The point of gerrymandering is to spread your voters out so that you don't have as few very safe districts as possible. You don't want too many very safe districts, because it's better for you to spread your voters out and have more districts which are safe, and fewer districts which are very safe. You spread your armies over more territory -- but thinner in ranks. You hold more territory. But you are less able to withstand an enemy surge. The point of this is that highly gerrymandered seats are designed to withstand a bad year but not a very bad year. It's like a dam that was built on the cheap -- tall enough to contain the waters of an above average storm, but not a big storm. A big storm will wash the dam away. And a once-in-a-generation storm? Forget about it. The dam was never even contemplated to be able to withstand such a storm. Republicans should start recruiting candidates for D+5 to D+10 "safe" seats -- they might wind up picking up a good number of those for which they can recruit decent candidates. The President is making a real effort to end this virus and get back to normal, but he is being stymied at every turn by an uncooperative populace, courts working counter to the Constitution and hostile corporate board rooms.
The science on this is clear. We won't defeat COVID until everyone is vaccinated and everyone maintains a booster schedule and everyone needs to wear a mask, engage in effective social distancing and support each other in our public health requirements until we reach full compliance. Because of our regressive and backward political and legal system, the President has inadequate authority to enforce these commonsense and necessary measures. The way out is clear, but the road is blocked by retrograde MAGA types and their controlled opposition forces in the courts, in the board rooms, in the police departments, in the press and in the churches and schools. Want Biden to keep his campaign promises about COVID? Great, so do I. So quit obstructing and start working toward the common good. Only together can we can be guided by science to achieve victory over this scourge. Posted by: Your Kid's Health Policy Professor at December 10, 2021 01:32 PM (DU+/6) 47

However, even with a big sweep win, a GOP-led Congress still has to deal with three things.
1. President Placeholder has no power to be curtailed, he is a puppet for the Deep State junta that acts in his name. 2. The Deep State has openly betrayed a presidency. A GOP Congress they won't fear until an actual budget is made & passed. 3. Too many GOPe members are on the take from corporate, activist, and foreign sources. Expecting honest, firm, and determined conduct for them is questionable. Before we win the election, we win the primaries first, or watch the Turtle and his ilk waste more time. Darrell Harris, I think this Trump as Speaker thing *could* be more than just an amusing mental doodle. It would be one more barrier Trump would help break - having a non-member as Speaker would stun much of the public, which of course has no idea how their constitution or government are actually defined in law and words. But even more helpfully it would exactly as you say.
Imagine the House GOP caucus with Trump as Speaker. Now for that to even happen, of course, that caucus would already be either sincerely or tactically in support of it, to vote him in. But thus would end all the pathetically transparent play-acting on key issues. Even "anti-GOPe" people probably don't appreciate how bad it is. Even on one of Trump's most successful and important policy triumphs - trade - there were GOP senior people desperately trying to find a politically survivable way to gut his executive authority. As bad as the public face of the GOP is, the full reality is nearly implausibly bad. Posted by: rhomboid at December 10, 2021 01:50 PM (OTzUX) 153

One of the reasons that Republicans traditionally have only fielded candidates in balanced or nearly balanced districts is because they have political strategists telling them Republicans only win by being mushy and running in heavy D districts simply causes more trouble for statewide Republicans by boosting Dem turnout in marginal districts. The Dems, on the other hand, run everywhere as that boosts total party vote at the state level.
So the Karl Rove and McConnell strategy is to run candidates that have no strong ideological preferences, spend gobs of business cash so that they are vulnerable to leadership, and that are status quo. Posted by: whig at December 10, 2021 01:52 PM (9hXN1) 161

Tammany Hall was corrupt, but TBH the streets were mostly paved, the bridges were being built, the crime was tolerable, buildings were built, businesses mostly could operate.
What got them in the end was that they excluded too many from politics and decision making. And the Locofocos were loud and organized enough to make the machine try to squash them, and they lost a lot of prestige that way. Posted by: Kindltot at December 10, 2021 01:52 PM (ZMraq) 163

I wouldn't be reaching out today if it wasn't urgent. I JUST got news that we are far short of hitting our critical end of month fundraising goal. There's still time to turn things around! But you need to chip in before it's too late and our odds of taking back the House are greatly reduced. Whether or not we hit our end-of-month goal has dire consequences. If Democrats continue to outraise and outspend us, it will mean: -Even higher prices and increased taxes on working families, and tax cuts for billionaires -Defunded police departments and out of control crime -Parents pushed out of their children's education -A wide open border policy I refuse to let the disastrous policies of far-left Democrats become the reality of everyday Americans, and I know you do too. As a former resident of Maryland, I can confirm that the Democrats are super-gerrymanderers just as described. Some cities and towns are in two or even three of the 8 districts. The one Republican, Andy Harris, has as his territory the entire east side of the state, from top to bottom, and half of the north side. The Democrats are now trying to redistrict him out of a seat by moving bits of various areas (such as Baltimore City) they dominate into the district and moving out some of the Republican voters into the other seven.

One of the things to look out for in this apparent flood of GOP gain is the wave of suspect "conservatives" who will run for office in the primaries. Sure, suspect conservatives (and candidates in general) is always a risk, but even more so as those who no one would ever support will get early traction because "Republican".
Lots of candidates who would under normal circumstance not even dare run will because the road is so much easier at the moment. Just declare "conservative" and watch the opportunity cascade. This could be a very good movement sabotaged, like the Tea Party era, into actual failure. Posted by: AnonyBotymousDrivel at December 10, 2021 02:03 PM (aXxgO) 242

There are two views of COVID and disease in general*.
1) There isn't much the president or federal government can do. And therefore you shouldn't blame them for an outbreak. This was more or less Trump's view 2) The president and federal government can stop a disease in its tracks and it is only a lack of will or vision if they don't. Biden literally ran on this, and if he won legitimately (note he didn't) it was because people believed him. So, not only should Biden be turned out based on his own statements as the disease has supposedly killed more people under his watch now, he should get the fill Wicker Man treatment. *outside of not creating new diseases of course Posted by: 18-1 at December 10, 2021 02:14 PM (ESjRY) 298

McConnell won't leave, but will Thune be kept on? If Louisiana's Kennedy were to get the Whip job, I'd be encouraged. Kevin McCarthy has Trump's cautious support, for reasons I cannot explain. The GOP suffered terrible midterm losses in 2018 and yet McConnel remained at the top of the ladder in the Senate. In time past, a loss like that would mean a change in leadership. Even in the house, after losing the Majority, look who remained at the top of the GOP, ready to become speaker: the RINO from California.

The rot is deep in our elite class as there is a wide gap between what is said and what is meant. Every statement made by our elites becomes a Schrodinger's cat statement--both alive and dead at the same time.
Consider the perversion of the word 'conservative' that would cover the positions of Goldberg, Kristol, McConnell, Matt Lewis, Justice Roberts, etc. Such a definition is so broad that anyone including Pelosi could claim to be a 'conservative' if she wished. After all, she wants to promote status quo of Democratic dominance. One might well call Stalin a conservative as after all he simply wanted to consolidate Russian power which was a goal long sought by czars. When words get divorced from common meaning, as in law, in politics, in the economy, in social discussions, it becomes elites and the people separated by a common language with the elites using their coercive power to force unnatural definitions of words to describe reality. 306 McConnell is getting a lot of help in the senate. Look at the 14 who voted for that Debt Ceiling surrender. Every one of them needs to go. Posted by: Marcus T
There is a common misunderstanding of the role of leaders in the House and Senate. They do not exist to actually promote policy nor even their party--they exist to service existing members. The reason that Republicans have more or less consolidated on doing nothing aside from tax cuts is that they do not agree what is to be done among themselves. So, the leaders happily oblige by raising gobs of money and use that spigot along with floor control to tamp out any dissidents. McConnell persists as leader because he shields his members from tough votes, raises a bunch of money for them, and simply relies on Democratic mistakes in office to get new members. McCarthy is without a spine which means that he tries to encompass all possible party members including Kinzinger and Cheney so as to keep the money coming in. To him, a nominal leftist Republican is as good as a staunch conservative. Trump probably continues to deal with him as McCarthy has no principles to get in his way of swaying with the political winds. Posted by: whig at December 10, 2021 02:34 PM (9hXN1) 377

a contrarian thought in favor of a GOP Congress: Democrats, just like now, always want to DO something, which means changing things, spending lots of money, screwing things up in every conceivable way. They can't stop, that's who they are.
Republicans, on the other hand, have shown that they have a genuine talent for doing Nothing At All. They have worked on this talent for a very long time, and they are very good at it. I have actually gotten to the point where I will be quite content with a Congress that I know is going to do Nothing, Ever. It's all I ever expect or want out of them. 13 WE just need the presidency and THEN we can take the baby steps necessary to institute REAL change across the land... and a few more state legislatures too
We need changes in the legislatures (national AND state) but that means we need to WEED OUT THE RINOS in the process. Then the presidency again, and come midterms then, we can start holding enough seats to keep majorities and then get some serious sweeping legislation going. Sadly we needed Biden to bring enough pain to wake up some more of the masses (and there's still plenty more to red pill) There's an image for you Biden as the Red Pill America needed to choke on... I think it was Jacob Would that I watched, during all the hysterics about the Jan 6 rowdies -- when my competent MSM assured me the GOP was "now finished to the dustbin of the right side of history," etc. -- who pointed out that R candidates had done really well in D+5 races the previous year. They even outperformed 3012.and 2016 on the West Coast. Of course, we have all enjoyed the hair-on-fire festivities after the D's were battered in "safe seats" in south Texas, but there was an attenuated version of that across the land.
So I guess when their candidates are old, drooling and/or bimbo-ish, the proverbial "natural Democrat voter" doesn't feel much like showing up to pull the lever for that. Really, they ain't feeling it. Not exactly the picture of party/brand loyalty. Hence, duffel bags of mailed ballots. Posted by: Le Swampon at December 10, 2021 04:44 PM (p221o) 417

Yep, gerrymandering is tricky math-wise.
If you have 10 districts 1000 voters and a 50/50 split? What do you do? How do you split the 100 per district? 9 at 55/45 districts and 1 at 5/95 district is generally the play. You usually get 9/10 wins that way. Biggest gain. And your opposition usually gets a crazy, which doesn't hurt you. But if you're down 10 in any election cycle? It's going to be tricky to recover from that one. Posted by: ertdfg at December 10, 2021 09:26 PM (I388C) 420
Am from United States. I was diagnosed with Herpes early this year in 2021 and the doctor told me herpes has no cure. I kept searching for any possible cure. While searching, I came across lots of reviews on facebook about how doctor DOUGRAY used herbal medicine to cure different people from Herpes and other diseases. I made an order for the herpes cure eraser and I received it 5 days later, I took the medicine for 9 days as instructed. While taking the medicine, I noticed some changes in my body. I used the medicine during the outbreak and the outbreak stopped completely. all the itching and pain was gone completely. When I was done taking the herbal medicine, I went for a test and I was confirmed Herpes negative "totally cured". Before I made an order for herbal medicine, I promised Dr DOUGRAY that if his product actually worked for me I was going to share the testimony through all social media so lots of people can be aware that Herpes is curable. you can contact dr dougray via Email: drdougray@gmail.com
