Welcome to my world: Everyone is burned out. That's becoming a security nightmare. (ZDNet)

I started working from home back in 2010, when long hours and frequent illness made it impossible for me to keep up with the demands of my job if I had to commute every day. (Later that year I was diagnosed with celiac disease and the illness mostly went away, to be replaced with being very annoying in restaurants.)

Anyway, the first thing that happens when you start working from home is that you don't have to go in to the office.

The second thing that happens is that you realise you can now never leave the office.
The research suggests that 84% of security professionals are feeling burned out, compared with 80% of other workers.
That's not a big difference, but if only one in six IT security specialists are actually functional - less than that, because a lot of the ones who aren't burned out will be idiots - we're basically doomed.

All of us, not just QNAP and Ubiquiti.

Tech News

Chinese companies are recycling old laptop and server CPUs as gaming systems. (Tom's Hardware)

The example shown is a 16 core AMD Opteron. AMD's current 16 core systems are great. This one is not current, though; it's from 2010, and its single-core performance is worse than a cheap Atom-based laptop, despite using 20 times the power.
Speaking of AMD server CPUs, there are new benchmarks of the new Milan-X chips, (WCCFTech)

It is, um, slightly slower in these tests than regular Milan.

The only difference here is that the X parts have three times as much cache, so the performance gain will be very much application-dependent, but it shouldn't make them slower.
Details of Intel's new laptop chips continue to trickle out. (WCCFTech)

A maximum of 6 full-sized cores, down from 8 in the previous generation, plus up to 8 low-power cores. Overall they will be faster in most tasks, but I'm avoiding these for a while because I'm worried about how well operating systems will handle the different core speeds.

That was the issue that broke DRM on more than 50 games, and I don't think that's all it broke. Certainly not eager to combine Intel's new CPUs with Microsoft's new Windows. I'll let millions of other people do that.

Meanwhile, my second Inspiron 16 Plus has shipped from the factory and is due to arrive before Christmas. They might need to deliver by submarine though.

Microsoft got back to us to say that a fix for this issue is in a preview build of Windows 11 issued on November 22nd.

This preview includes a fix which states: "Addresses an issue that affects the performance of all disks (NVMe, SSD, hardisk) on Windows 11 by performing unnecessary actions each time a write operation occurs. This issue occurs only when the NTFS USN journal is enabled.
NTFS USN journal? I didn't enable that.
Note, the USN journal is always enabled on the C: disk.

Have you guys seen all of the reports regarding the hourly attacks on American satellites by Russia and China? From electronic jamming, to cyber attacks, to physical, hostile maneuvering in close proximity to simulate an attack, we are apparently seeing it all here lately.

Happily, we have Grampy Poopy-Pants looking out for us, so I'm sure it'll all be fine. Yep.

That is a little unusual, to say the least. I know Windows 11 Pro can come set up with an option to roll back to Windows 10, but I haven't heard of Windows Home coming that way.

26 It sounds like Dell re___d a bunch of exiting Win10 machines in stock and didn't test things properly. Or some attempt at clever that ran afoul of the minimum system requirements, regardless of the actual hardware.

I'm thinking back to when some OEMs tried to use a single image for both AMD and Intel systems, and other installs made critical decisions based on what HAL showed up first in a filesystem scan....

I know Eric Clapton's "Lay Down, Sally" came out earlier than 1979. More like 1977. I was working in radio in Lafayette, LA, at the time, and LD,S was new then. I agree, though, that it would still have been getting airplay as a "recent" oldie in '79; oldies stations still play it today.

Up early to sip coffee preparatory to working out, with Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat out here with me. We got his meds into him last night, and he seems to have more energy this am.

All I knew was that everyone said Windows 11 was really slow, so I wanted a processor faster than an i5. This probably makes zero sense to those who know something about computers.

I've never tried it; I only got into the old standby pipe leaves this year, and never have been able to find PA in a pouch (yeah, yeah, they stopped making the can years ago). 'Tis good mild stuff with a great aroma and pleasant taste. This year I've discovered why the old standbys like PA, Sir Walter Raleigh, Carter Hall, and Half & Half are still around: They're good, and fairly inexpensive to boot.

I got me an early Christmas present, a Casio G-shock "atomic watch", what supposed to synchronize itself with the atomic clock radio signal for Ft. Collins, CO.

It wouldn't sync inside the house, so I go outside at 4:30AM and manually sync, facing West. It is successful.

I brag to Miley about my success in synchronizing, and she says, "How do you know the govt. isn't lying about what time it is?"

I have no answer. What if the govt. is lying about what time it is? My God!!!!

I synched my computer clock with the Windows Time Server. It agreed with that Nyoocular Time Signal from Colorado to a fraction of second. You can see a bit of difference when the seconds change from the computer display vs the Casio watch display, just recently synced with that Nyoocular time.

So, if the govt. is lying, Bill Gates is in on it too.

A lot of math for early in the morning, but I get it. Doctors don't want to spend any un-reimbursed time punching in data on 'Adverse Events' into the VAERS database. There's some statistical multiplier that the writer came up with to achieve that number.

If he's correct the vaccine should be referred to as 'the deadly vaccine' and pulled immediately. But if the pharmaceutical companies do that they will feel as if it's an admission of guilt, and know the trial lawyers are one step behind them with a noose in hand.

69 I've seen a figure of 41 for the unreported VAERS data, meaning that whatever you do see in there should be multiplied by 41. I'm not sure how they came up with that number. But we can be sure there are lot more injuries and deaths than are reported.

As for tobacco, pipe tobacco is sort of the redheaded stepchild -- it doesn't get the notice that cigarettes and vaping do, or even cigars. But I've stocked up on the stuff I like. Since I smoke only about 3 times a week, I fugre I'm good well into '22.

83 Prince Albert is still in a can, afaik, although it's plastic. And smaller. And not exactly inexpensive anymore, though nothing is. I used to like a good smoke - roll yer own US grown American Spirit was 30 bucks for a 150 gram can. I saw some the other day. $76 a can. Good ciggie tobacco therefore is well north of $200 a pound.

What I noticed is there seems to be nothing much in between. Either cheap cannon fuse ciggie, er, "pipe" tobacco for $20 a.pound, or the American Spirit that is excellent, yet arm and leg.

The logic behind the 140,000 number is that it has been stated that only 1% of actual severe adverse events are reported in VAERS. So, for example, if VAERS shows 1,400 deaths, that's only 1% of the actual number. He calls this an "underreporting factor" (URF), which would be a multiplier of 100.

He states that VAERS reports the number of deaths related to vaccine as 19,532. He adjusts that assuming that some of those are not actually caused by the vaccine. So the adjustment brings the number down to 3,906 deaths. He then uses an "underreporting factor" (URF) of 36, to be on the conservative side (as opposed to the 100). 3,906 X 36 = 140,616.

This is another thing that is going on the last couple months. The narrative is being pushed that all the severe adverse effects that we're seeing from vaccines, are actually being caused by anything other than the vaccines. Some are saying omicron side effects are blood clots and myocarditis, some are saying that blood clots are normal due to cold temperatures, some are saying myocarditis is normal in kids and it's also no big deal, etc.

They are no longer covering up the fact that hundreds of thousands of people - including children - are suffering severe adverse effects from the vaccines, they are simply lying and saying the effects are from either COVID or some other cause. And of course the lie that even if someone had side effect A, "you're lucky! had you *not* gotten the jab, you would have gotten side effect B which is much worse!" Which they cannot possibly prove.

It's evil.

Yep, understood regarding no control group, so not an actual proper study.

All I know is the narrative has never been truthful or transparent. They have lied about everything, censored anyone who dares to present contrary data or info and incentivized the nation's "healthcare" industry to fall in line (or threatened them with job loss and medical license loss if they do not).

None of the actions over the course of the last 22 months during the Plandemic have been logical or about health or science. None of them. As such, by the time they started pushing the jab, I knew not to trust them. And I never will again.

Shutting down the computer at quitting time was vital to my surviving to a comfortable retirement. I realize that crises aren't inclined to wait for business hours; but it's important to limit out-of-hours work to true crises, rather than working into the small hours to make up for some manager's bad planning or laziness.
