I have yet to figure out what Krak's sentence means above, but never mind, he's rolling.
Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat is really doing better. He's purring here with me on the living room floor, instead of retreating to his den, the bedroom, after breakfast. It's amazing how much brighter and energetic he seems in the morning. The new nerve pain pills (gabapentin, crushed into his Rx food) are really working. Hard to remember that we thought he might not even make it to Halloween this year! Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at December 04, 2021 06:10 AM (c6xtn) 8

Am more convinced than ever they had to drive up the death rate of Covid as the fear factor to implement all their machinations. Making nursing homes take in Covid patients was just one, turning every possible death with Covid as a Covid was another. They act like Covid is Ebola with a %80 -90 death rate.

Have to head out in a bit to wash and wax-as-I-dry the car. Later, Miss Linda wants to go to a local thrift store, so I'll drop her off there, pick up some car stuff at Walmart, and swing back. I already have the oil for the car's Dec. change, so I need the filter, plus new wipers, some more spray wax, and a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner. I run that through before the oil change.

Interesting list, smh. My mom fits the "other" list better, but doesn't fit either completely. But my grandfathers' alcoholism definitely affected my parents. My dad was closer to his mom, which was hard for him (he cries at Field of Dreams), and my mom married the opposite of her father. They are both teetotallers. My sister married into an alcoholic family (now divorced and remarried), and I married a teetotaller and I'm one myself.

Yesterday we set up our new heated birdbath on the rail of the deck. Looks like it works fine, because the water is a nice tepid temperature this morning, even though it went down to 14 F last night. The birds are spooked by it, though. They haven't been around at all to the usual feeders. I expect they'll scope it out from a distance for a while, then will come back. Eric Knight, I think, wrote the novel that became Lassie, Come Home. Damon Knight was not only a critic, but could actually do what he was critiquing, write and sell memorable SF short stories. There's a collection of SF/fantasy stories called The Third Level by Jack Finney. The stories in there, including the title story, would have made excellent original Twilight Zones, but his stuff never was adapted for the show. Re the bridge design flaws - it's least partially a product of how students are taught these days, there is an over reliance on models and simulations. I started seeing this in the late 2000's where engineers could design anything in front of a screen but only a handful could do the calculations by hand to support it. Some very interesting problems kept the design managers and head engineers up late most nights.

Clyde - sadly, no, it was his way of saying he's a shit supervisor. I'd been on rotation, so he'd gotten input from the supervisor I was working for. He told me in general terms that everything was great. I asked for specifics - things I should keep doing, any areas of possible improvement. That's when he said that.
I found out later that the rotational supervisor wrote a detailed review providing valuable input on both of those points. Glad I took the initiative to follow up with him. Posted by: Mrs. Peel at December 04, 2021 08:59 AM (8548M) 239

Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at December 04, 2021 08:57 AM George Marshall's attitude is shared by the management team of my project. We have numerous issues we are always trying to solve. But we are told that we should not escalate them for management review until we at least have some concepts or proposals that could potentially resolve the issues. And I have faced the "work it out by myself" issue on my current project as well. With the company's all-on move to "electrification" and no long history of that within the company, I've had to do a lot of my own research and benchmarking. Posted by: Mrs. Peel at December 04, 2021 08:59 AM I remember you sharing the part that your other supervisor provided a detailed review, but your shit supervisor did not bother to put that in the official review. Sounds like the guy is lazy. Good supervisors though will do everything they can to (1) praise their employees for what they do well and (2) provide constructive criticism of how they can improve. Because no matter how good someone is with something, there are always areas to improve. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at December 04, 2021 09:07 AM (Do5/p) 252
207 One might think the climate has changed.
At one time I gave serious thought to becoming a meteorologist. I even took some college level classes in remote sensing (how to read satellite data) along with physics. Chose another path, but I've had professional/consumer quality weather stations everywhere I've lived for about 40 years. The only climate change I've noticed is when I move from place to place. Kentucky is way different than the central coast of California. It's not because of global warming. Posted by: Martini Farmer at December 04, 2021 08:43 AM (BFigT) I read a story years ago that about 6 out of 10 weather stations used by NOAA violate their own rules for location and placement. A scientific abstract published on November 8, 2021 concludes that the mRNA vaccines:
"dramatically increase inflammation on the endothelium and T cell infiltration of cardiac muscle and may account for the observations of increased thrombosis, cardiomyopathy, and other vascular events following vaccination." _____________ Chronic inflammation often leads to cancer, which is probably why so many docs have been saying the vaxx could eventually cause a lot more people to get cancers. On the subject of bridges, I read an article once by Henry Petroski in his "American Scientist" column that stated all new (for their time) bridge designs usually had a hidden design flaw that would eventually was revealed by a catastrophic failure of one or more completed bridge(s) that used the new design. Trussed bridges and suspension bridges had passed through that phase; today's cable-stayed bridges have yet to do so.
