Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Looming Losses for House Democrats [Dave in Fla]The 2022 election season is not going well for Democrats. Historical trends already point to significant losses in the House, where the Democrats only hold a 5 seat edge (as of last week). On historical trends alone, the Democrats would lose their majority. However, current polling is showing that if the election were today, the Democrats would face losses worse than the 1994 and 2010 losses. Congressional generic ballot polling is a recent trend, only being conducted as a key part of election polling since 2012. Prior to that only a few polling firms, such as Washington Post/ABC and Gallup, polled the question. Prior to 1980, it wasn't polled at all. The table below shows both the historical trends in the first year of a presidency, and the generic ballot results prior to the elections. With the exception of Bush in 2002, a president in his first midterm always loses seats in the House. Of the seven examples since 1970, the minimum loss has been 8 seats. Even without the current political climate, the Democrat hold on the House is almost certain to be lost. The other thing to note about these polls is that they skew Democrat. It is very rare for them to show a Republican preference. The one time that they did, we had the 2010 blowout of 63 seats. I took a look at the historic performance of the ABC poll. After stealing the election, they really thought that the policies they were going enact would result in economic improvement, and that the world would settle down and love us. And the voters would then forget about 2020 and just return to pre-2016 voting patterns. To be fair, the voters were willing to do so, all the Biden Administration had to do was continue the Trump policies. Instead, they botched Afghanistan, we have unprecedented inflation, never ending COVID emergencies, massive supply chain disruption, and vaccine mandates threatening the jobs of millions right before Christmas.
========= Their policies didn't work not because they're wrong but because of wreckers and hoarders. Give them total power and it'll work for sure. Is it a problem that their policies don't work when they only have partial power? Not at all. It just further proves the obviousness of their righteousness. In the past, we could also expect major swings in other states like California. However, with the institution of legalized ballot harvesting and universal mail-in ballots...
The best part is maybe 10-15% of people know anything at all about ballot harvesting. I can't tell you how many people I've mentioned that to, and get blank stares. Then, they don't believe it. This is very welcome news in a year in which so much has gone wrong.
I have to constantly remind myself that we got here gradually, and that the correctives will take some time. You don't replace all the RINOs in one fell swoop, but you eat away at the problem, and, over time, you find that their ascendancy is over. The other cheerful thought is that the Dems have become so obviously toxic and incompetent that, despite the best efforts of the media, regular people are finally noticing. Red team vs. blue team was always going to come back post 2020.
Always was. The two parties have dominated American politics for 150 years through massive changes in society and policy. They simply absorb changes and move on because it's easier to co-opt an existing party than to create one anew and have it be a success in our first past the post system. It'll break at some point because nothing lasts forever, but the ineptitude of Democrats just simply made it too easy for people to fall back into the pattern, helped none at all by Trump refusing to break from the GOP. Now, with that in mind as how things are going to play out, what are best next steps? The House of Representatives is much harder to steal on a large scale because they're so local, running up the total in LA won't help that much. The Senate is somewhat easier to achieve majority control with a few cities.

Two thoughts: 1) DJT should run for Congress in 2022. A Repub majority could make him Speaker of the House (Yes, He might not be good at that job, but the majority of the work can be delegated. His being Speaker would cut off Dr. Jill's likely plan to disgard Que-mala and insert someone else (Dr. Jill??). Hah, he could end up as Acting President until properly re-elected in 2024!
2) A Repub congress should *immediately* pass a law to discard all existing voter's rolls and require registration with proof of citizenship and photo ID. That would immediately remove the thousands of ghost voters from the rolls. Require that every poll state the number of votes case, verified by the clerk, Dem and Repub monitors at close voting: no more 'found ballots in the middle of the night'. See the problem is that we used to go "well the elections are the poll that counts, then we'll be heard as a people".
Well that's not true is it? We don't have that trust any more. Nobody saw the Virginia elections and knew confidently it was going to turn out with a Republican win, because everyone knew the left would cheat as hard as it could to get that win. We breathed a sigh of relief that for once they didn't cheat the win (but did in other states like New Jersey). Its like watching movies now. We used to go to a movie expecting it to be fun and entertaining. When it wasn't, we were disappointed. Now we go to movies expecting them to suck, like a beaten child cringing as they walk past dad, and we're surprised and happy when they aren't preachy leftist crap. The worm has turned, nobody really trusts elections any longer. The fact that we see an exception to this rule once in a while does not somehow reverse this or erase 2020. The battle for control of the house is in 20-30 districts not 435. With the right targeted fraud, the Dems can easily pull off a steal.
The reason the Reps came close in 2020 is because their focus was on the presidency. In 2022 they will have all their focus on the house and senate. Posted by: Joe XiDen ---------- The idea is right, but the math is wrong. The gerrymandering only resulted in 55-45 districts at best. There are actually 100 districts that can swing. Keep in mind that the country on a district my district level leans conservative. The Dems can't win if they stick 70% of their voters in core blue districts. If House Republicans actually get what they are whispering about, 50-60 seats, it will be both historic and a little sad. Their probable response will be to gleefully start grifting, even while passing watered-down Democrat policies into law, claiming "centrism!!". Well that's not true is it? We don't have that trust any more. Nobody saw the Virginia elections and knew confidently it was going to turn out with a Republican win, because everyone knew the left would cheat as hard as it could to get that win.
Two points: 1) The potential for cheating is overstated. They won't be able to get away with what they did in '20, because people now know what they're capable of, and because, as others have pointed out, it's hard to cheat enough to influence Congressional elections. 2) The GOP has a vested interest in tightening up the voting rules. They're stupid and corrupt, but not suicidal. That, and they've been told in no uncertain terms that a repeat of '20 will be the end of them. Thanks Dave, as always good work and analysis and putting of knowledge.
Quick glance seems to show most of the obvious comments have been covered. Will reiterate that the "stolen election" thing, while very plausible, really needs to be documented in detail, and then some, to leave the "climate change" category of something (in some circles) routinely assumed to exist but never quite shown to exist. A sub-chapter of this is the mostly silly idea that CA elections would turn out differently without fraud. Prior to the ridiculously outrageous idea of ballot harvesting, CA elections reflected the ignorance and practical stupidity - and self-dealing - of an electorate that marinates in the cartoon propaganda of the "press" and is now decades into corrupted "education". Look at the issues, look at ballot propositions, from before harvesting. Steady downward line into idiocy, on every issue. Also, "discouraged" voters is a factor in many areas, as I think research has confirmed (and I know from real life). More "conservative" voters who just gave up a while ago. The premise is correct -- many, many House seats are not competitive (gerrymandered either red or blue). However, the places where the Dems can pull big time fraud, big enough to matter, are only in a handful of deep blue counties. Those can affect the Senate elections, but not the House. They are already gerrymandered blue, so piling up the vote in races they're going to win anyway does no good. The competitive races are likely to trend red, and this may be a wave election where some unexpected blue seats will go red here and there, like Tom Foley's seat did in 1994. Or throwing the border open and shipping COVID+ third worlders into red states while trying to shut down American-owned small businesses. Or pushing a vax they've exempted themselves from, knowing that it's killing more and more people. The people actually calling the shots have a plan, and that plan is deliberate economic destruction to help cement a totalitarian state, followed by a slow genocide. It's already been noted above - biggest value will be negative, as a block to the most insane vandalism. Which is not nothing. I disagree wholeheartedly on your Gerrymandering take. Look at Ohio for example. It has 16 seats. In 2020, 12 of those 16, the winner got over 60% of the vote. There were only 2 seats where the winner won by less than 10%. And this is in the ultimate swing state in a very close national election. And still 12/16 seats weren't even competitive and the other 4 were pretty much a done deal long before any ballots were cast. Then you look at Alabama that has 7 seats. Every single one of those was won by 15% or more. Very few seats are competitive. Democrats don't prioritize winning over all else. They prioritize making full use of their power no matter the electoral consequences, and then waiting until they have another shot at it. Republicans cower in perpetual fear of being criticized by the NY Times editorial page and do nothing. Democrats knew they were going to get hammered after passing Obamacare. They didn't care, they wanted to fundamentally remake healthcare. And they don't care that they are going down in 2022, they will just use the power for all its worth, and there is nothing the Republicans will do to repeal that when they are in power. It's a classic game of "heads I win, tails you lose."

Chris, I love traffic circles. They're amazing. I was introduced to them in New York. Although I admit, they were huge and in low traffic areas. 216 Democrats don't prioritize winning over all else.

We have entered the era of abnormal politics so the old trench warfare approach to political analysis is probably not appropriate. Using the past to extrapolate what will happen in the future works until it doesn't. There is always the possibility of some massive realignment if public distaste blames a lot on the party in power. There is also the possibility of some sort of unrest that makes political action outside of elections dictate the terms. Past predicts the future is also discounting that some sort of massive policy or natural catastrophes will occur before voting begins.

Look at point #2. They were unable to secure a steal in VA because of new safeguards.
The goal here isn't to punish them for '20 (although that would certainly be nice), it's to prevent a recurrence. Posted by: pep at November 23, 2021 12:51 PM How were those safeguards put in place in VA? Do they have a conservative GOP state legislature that put those policies in place? Is it something that can be done in the 5-6 states that stole the election in 2020? Do those 5-6 states also have conservative legislatures which can put those same safeguards in place in their states? Michigan is one of the states. I think we have a GOP-majority legislature, but not sure if it is conservative-majority. I'll have to look into whether anyone here in Michigan is leading the effort to get these safeguards in place. Dave I assume you were just tossing that part out there, but the stuff about the Dems thinking their policies would work out just fine ...... not so sure.
I personally know/have known, well, several Dem officeholders (Senate and House). None of them really had much in the way of understanding actual issues. They all had very fervent NPR/Beltway mindset/dumbest think-tank/media "understanding" of major issues. That is, not much, to absolutely zero, actual understanding. In any case, the Trump years stand as the most spectacular, and decisive, settling of the question on major areas, especially economic, in my lifetime. That a president whose policies were materially responsible for the best economy in the lives of almost all living voters (heh) could be displaced, by literally (as Trump himself rashly pronounced on the campaign trail) the worst and weakest candidate in modern history, *even with fraud*, is the central reality nobody seems comfortable facing. Trump's margin in 2016 was about the same as Joe's alleged one this time. That it could be anything but a 30+ state blowout is really a key point of 2020. A lot of the dashcam channels now use footage from a webcam at a big new traffic circle in, I think, Milwaukee. Seemingly multiple times a day people drive off the sides or through the center and destroy the lights, shrubbery, utility poles, and their cars. In one case the work crews were just finishing up repairing the carnage from a previous incident and car went off the side of the circle and destroyed the light fixture they'd just installed. Sucks in major metro areas. Missoula, close to the university has these circular pieces of land in their intersections. PITA as it reduces the width of the lanes since they are in residential areas. Posted by: neverenoughcaffeine at November 23, 2021 01:19 PM (2NHgQ) 366

It's not fucking rocket science, I mean come on. Total accidents, and more specifically serious injury accidents have fallen by significant numbers where they replaced intersections. Roundabout accidents are usually fender benders since it's at low speeds and there are no 90 degree angles, so you can't have the T-bone type accidents. The one I posted the video of is just insane, but it still works pretty well and if you watched the video, it says there has only been 1 fatality in that intersection in the past 5 years. Given the number of cars that pass through every day, that in and of itself is pretty damn amazing. Sort of tangentially watching the Lin Wood conversation. I know some of the back story, and my understanding is that Wood's organization put up the bail, so is legal entitled to it. David Hancock is controlling the Rittenhouse family right now, who used to work for Wood.
So this is Hancock and Wood fighting over who gets to keep the money. Kyle isn't likely to get any of it, no matter who wins. BTW, Lin Wood was one of the principles who fucked up the legal challenge to the 2020 election. They went down the Dominion rat hole, that was always going to be a dead end. The question is if he did it on purpose or was suckered into it. The 2020 legal challenge needed to be against the canvas not the count. Once they accepted the canvas, the legal challenge was toast. Politico:
In the days after the Democratic Party's collapse in the Virginia governor's race, party strategists descended on the commonwealth to figure out what went wrong and understand just how bad the national outlook might be next year. What they discovered, largely through focus groups and polling, was even worse than expected. The problems cut far deeper than the failings of their gubernatorial nominee, Terry McAuliffe, or President Joe Biden's flagging approval ratings. Rather, the Democratic Party's entire brand was a wreck. "Voters couldn't name anything that Democrats had done, except a few who said we passed the infrastructure bill," the center-left group Third Way and its pollsters said in a report, obtained first by POLITICO, on focus groups they ran in Virginia. Wo wo wo.
Last comment on the topic, but no, my point about "racial" impact of flawed criminal justice system was absolutely not about where people lived. It was about individual behavior. The wildly disproportionate "blackness" of serious crime (vs. % of population) is a reality, criminal justice outcomes (convictions/pleas/incarceration) simply reflect that. Flaws in the system = those outcomes are probably much worse than they should be, but the underlying reality is what it is. On this topic, the other day I saw an incredibly stupid twat by Don Jr, who used the ridiculous term "mass incarceration". This is one of the most poisonous and vile lies of the racist-authoritarians, and like a good GOP type, Don Jr just picks it up, to throw at his opponents. Unless I missed those mass trials, where masses of people were convicted due to their skin color, and then incarcerated, en masse. Posted by: rhomboid at November 23, 2021 01:28 PM (OTzUX) 411

Question for you ... now that purple FL is pretty much red (you agree?), which of these following purple states do you think is most likely to become permanently red (as happened in OH)?-Wisconsin Posted by: Forheremenaremen at November 23, 2021 01:20 PM (GMR0L) == I'm not Dave - but Wisconsin. Posted by: Black JEM at November 23, 2021 01:23 PM (V6xwG)01:20 PM (GMR0L) Madison and Milwaukee are too outsized in terms of votes available for WI to become permanently red. While some of the other communities may swing more to the Rep side, Milwaukee is to into "Vote a certain way cause of...certain issues" and Madison is by and large Red in the Marxist definition, and getting more so over time. I doubt many/most there see Kenosha as any more than proof Capitalism fails. I'd like to be wrong, but I don't bet but I'd wager that the last years events aren't going to significantly change either area's voting habits. Note how "doing something" was the basic concept in VA voters' impression of the Dems (as reported by Politico).
And what was the *sole* data-point in the Dems' favor? The "infrastructure" bill - which would be nowhere without Mitch and the Senate GOP. This was what I was referring to earlier. And this is AFTER the nightmare that was 2020, and the phenomenon that was/is Trump (true outsider taking over a major party presidential nomination and actually being elected). Thank God we will take back the house and pass sweeping Troon legislation. Then we will do a great big amnesty to let all the squatalamalan indios to rape and murder White children and drive drunk. Then we will cut taxes to enrich all the billionaires who hate us so we can get back on social media. Then we must let all negroes out of prison so they can prey on White women and children. Up next MAP legislation to make pedophilia legal getting the jump on the dems real racists by using dems real heterosexual thereby turning GOP into hive of sodomy. G.rand O.le P.inworm forever. Sodomy required bigots. We will never lose another election with our coalition for Troons, negroes, Goblinos, Sodomites, and pedophiles. Remember demsrealheterosexual is the new demsrealracist .

First you said,
"There will be more Marjorie Green's and Lauren Boebert's next year." This already got me super excited! :-) Then you had to follow up with this gem... "Back in March a question was asked regarding the Democrat plans to win the midterms. The Democrats had planned to run on a booming economy and world stability. Let that sink in." I'm letting that sink in, like me into a hot jacuzzi...with a beer in one hand and my wife in the other arm... ohhh that feels soo good! On a more serious note, how in the eff did the Dems plan on a booming economy and world stability?!?! Even those in power know their crap doesn't work! They are just catering to their power bases of mishmashed grievance groups, which are all at odds with anything close to a productive functioning environment. m advice to Republican candidates----don't talk about fraud and the last election at all. when questioned, say, "That election is over. This election is about the future of America" and then pound home the points you are running on.

I'm thankful that Dems are taking on water big time in swing states in the early polls for '22. I'm also happy that my thankfulness is putting a great big pain in the media's collective lying ass on this upcoming Thankful holiday.

What I'm worried about is the cheat, specifically the GOPe doing nothing to stop it, and the emergence of Moochelle Obama as Kamala's replacement right before the midterms. She'd re-energize the listless dems, and go in the 24 election as the sitting 1st Black woman president. Because Joe will tragically stroke out right after Moochelle is sworn in as Veep.
