20 Same with the naming of the Tappan Zee Bridge and the renaming for a sexual predators father.

The "Tappan" part of Tappan Zee was for the local Tappan Tribe who were part of the Lenape. Tappan Zee, was meant to honor both the tribe and original Dutch settlers who arrived in the 17th century. By the way the bridges full name was The governor Malcom Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge. Cuomo just stripped the former governor's name to put his disgraced family name on the bridge.

Whoops. Whoopsie. He trampled a former governor and native Americans to make a vanity bridge for himself.

There are now two bills pending to rename the bridge "Tappan Zee".

21 Regarding the meme, it made me think of this: "O do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers; pray for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of your work shall be no miracle, but you shall be a miracle. Every day you shall wonder at yourself, at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God."

I needed that reminder today. Been lacking powers equal to my tasks lately.

I, and all my colleagues in my department, have been working from home since 12noon on 03/13/20. Going on 20+ months now. But they specifically stated in their documents that even those working from home need to be "vaccinated".

Their reasoning they give out to salaried employees is "we need to use all the tools to fight the pandemic and vaccination is a great tool blah blah blah". Meanwhile, a designer colleague who is part of the UAW sent me the 6-page document their leadership sent them. It outlines all the legalities of different government mandates out there. It also states that those union members who are working from home would not have to be "vaccinated". In the documents we (salaried) were sent, it states that union members are not subject to the company mandate we are subject to. "But we're still in negotiations with the UAW on that".

61 In other news. I had my midterm review this week. I was on rotation for the beginning of the performance period, and I just got a new role. So, Good Supervisor (from the rotation) provided inputs, Bad Supervisor (still my supervisor on paper, as the change to the new role is propagating) conducted the review, and New Supervisor signed off on it in our online system.

Bad Supervisor called me to do the review. He told me he'd gotten tons of input from Good Sup. and that I was just great, doing a great job. That was it. I asked him if he could point out any specifics - what should I keep doing, are there opportunities for improvement - and he said I was a great employee because I never ask him for help. I am not making that up. He actually said that. He then submitted my midterm review with no inputs.

Still kind of curious about specifics, I reached out to Good Supervisor and explained what had happened and asked whether he had anything he could share with me. Turned out he'd written 4 paragraphs of inputs and sent to Bad Supervisor. All that asshole had to do was copy and paste and he couldn't even be arsed to do that. What the FUCK.

Also, if my employer accepts my religious exemption, the "accommodation" is weekly testing. I hate going to the doctor so much that I have gone only twice in the past 22 years. So I am really not looking forward to weekly visits for a bullshit "test". Especially if they are PCR which, per the FDA and CDC, do not work and have ridiculously high false-positive results. Granted, they will be discontinued 12/31/21. But I have not read anywhere what the new test will be and how good it actually is.

I have worked successfully the past 20 months at home with zero illness and zero issues with job performance. But now I am faced with weekly chances of having a "positive test result" popping up and then having to face whatever stupid-ass "protocols" that come with that.

If I hadn't gotten this new role, which is a promotion, I'd have left without promotion bc I hate working for this guy), but we now have a pass/fail system for performance, which means the supervisor's writeup is really important. Also, if I get terminated due to shot refusal, I want that review in there as evidence that I'm an outstanding employee. So I'm trying to get New Supervisors to reverse the approval of my midterm review so we can go back and put that data in there.

Anyway, Bad Supervisor SUCKS and I'm so glad I don't work for him anymore.

The left has believed that since the beginning. (Rush voice)The Reverend Jackson once stated he got to the age where he was relived the footsteps behind him belonged to white people. And most of the media blacks immediately move into affluent and majority white areas.

So they can say that about "their people", you just can't notice that that is what they are saying.

85 In other news.

The new thing is your managers and bosses are too busy to evaluate you so you do your own performance review from now on. They then take those, throw them in the trash, and evaluate you based on quota guidelines from HR and salary budgets. This is becoming quite common now.

Our Performance reviews were due yesterday. Coincidentally, at 9:30am yesterday, the "COVID-19 Task Force Team" sent out their e-mail with the "ACTION REQUIRED" for the company "vaccine status" (Due 12/04) and "vaccine" requirement (Due 01/05). I don't think that was a coincidence.

I have excellent reviews from my supervisor and dept manager for the work I have done over the past 2 years alone, but also going back over my entire 10 years with the company. I also am lead on our project and have weekly report out meetings where I share project status with upper management and program management. All have expressed to me numerous times they appreciate the great work that I do. But... that is all work of mouth. And, in the end, we all know that HR doesn't give a damn about any of that, they just follow their woke orders. So I am going to be maximum stressed out until I find out if my exemption is approved.

That is what has been in place at my employer since at least the past 7 years or so. If we want to get any credit at all for all the work we do, we have to make sure to list it all out in our self-assessment. Because our supervisors "can't remember everything that you do".

In addition, the system is setup where each department gives out the grades (1-9) based on a quote, bell curve. Fives are basically what everyone gets, but they "have to" hand out fours to a certain number of people. Four means that you are on probation and will have extra attention given to you during the next year. If you get 2 fours in a row, you could be terminated. Also, with a four on your record, your options for moving to another department are limited, because the four looks bad. You also get less in yearly bonuses.

Posted by: PaleRider, waiting on farrier at November 20, 2021 09:34 AM (3cGpq)

121 Then it's also all about politics. If a certain manager does not like you, even if you kicked ass in performance for the year, that manager will argue against you getting anything over a 5. Nevermind that that manager was never in any of the meetings you lead, nevermind that manager was never in the upper level program meetings you contribute to weekly, etc.

I had that happen to me a couple years ago. Our new dept manager said she thought I had a bad attitude and was always negative. Which was true. But it was because I was busting my ass to try to get things accomplished and was getting no support from anyone. So I ended up having to do my job plus the jobs of about 4 other people.

I found out later that a colleague I had worked on regarding an important side project stood up for me in the "negotiation of ratings" meeting. But knowing I regularly work my ass off and some manager who doesn't follow my work whatsoever was going to rate me lower simply because of her impression of me... pissed me off.

Thanks, PaleRider. There is some question on the form I need to submit for exemption that asks about accommodation. I think I may answer that with what you stated here.

Reading that article Mrs. Peel posted, they have good advice on saying to make clear that you enjoy your job, have good performance reviews and you want to keep your job. Basically make it clear that even though you cannot accept the "vaccine" mandate, you're not trying to be a disgruntled employee. I am hoping what they said in the article is true too. That most companies are just doing this because it's the law and most will accept all religious exemptions.

134 We used to have a five point system. In practice, everyone got a 4. Very few 3's were given, and 5's were limited and had to be agreed to by higher-ups. So if your supervisor was willing to fight for you, you could get a 5. (I have a long string of 5's thanks to my supervisor before Bad Supervisoror.) So I'm actually glad they went to pass/fail because we effectively already had that anyway. But it means the supervisor writeup is really important.

Bad Supervisor just plagiarized my inputs, when he did a writeup at all, but Good Supervisor collected inputs from a bunch of people I was working with and consolidated them into his own words. Which was great because he called out a bunch of stuff I had taken for granted. (challenges I was facing, etc.) I should tell him again how much I appreciate the effort he put into it.

That was my workplace too, though not because the managers were busy but because upper management hired people to be daycare managers for the floor.

I would give myself "exceptional" for all checkboxes except for "Above expectations" for the "follows instructions well" box.

The explanation for the marks got the sentence, "I have performed at exceptional levels of performance in the last period"

Really, it makes the whole process much quicker and I could go back to things like actually doing my job. Dumbasses that didn't like what I put down could do something like actually doing their jobs too.

148 I've lived through it with two large companies. It creates a lot of cynicism, and eventually gets dropped. But HR will never admit " my bad, that was a dumb idea"

Posted by: 2009Refugee at November 20, 2021 09:43 AM

That is where we are now in my large company. It was brought in with a merge years ago. Some think it may be changing soon, since the company just had a new merger this past year. We all know the system is BS and is actually setup to make you compete with your colleagues, instead of work together. No one takes it seriously and we all put minimum effort into our self-assessments*.

Luckily for the company, at least my department is full of people with integrity and who work hard regardless of the stupid performance review system. But anyone without that integrity and who wants to get a higher rating, they would be not helping their colleagues and only looking out for themselves.

*I actually went all out one year with listing out pretty much every single accomplishment I could remember, put it all in a nice format, put in more details than just a simple summary, etc. Then still got a 5 and found out later about the manager who thought I was negative.

I appear to be switching sides from enemy to ally with every time an opposing child opens his or her little mouth. I shall stand here and make appropriate noises. With coffee. And then take them out to breakfast.

May you all have good days, too!

====

We still do this, but with the clear expectation that most people are 3s. 1s and 2s are for people who are already in PIP territory. 4s and 5s are supposed to be reserved for star performers.

It seems to work okay.

The obvious flaw is that the middle tier on a team of strong performers gets penalized relative to the top tier of a team of weak performers. I can only hope the execs are smart enough to correct for that when they're discussing comp/bonuses.

The complaining witness, a BLACK WOMAN, had called the Kenosha police complaining that Blake was trying to forcibly take her rental car with at least one child in it. If that had been true, one could descibe Blake as a "carjacking kidnapper".

Asians have taken over first with whites holding firm in second place, Hispanics coming up fast on the outside, African blacks showing strongly, and American blacks locked into last place since 1965.
The latter group really needs to change both it's front office people and it's coaching staff across the board. MLK was probably their last good coach.
Left out of the ranking is the native American groups. Unfortunately, of the 80%+ of the population who live on the coasts and of which I'm one, we don't ever hear shit about them.

____________

I've seen some of the testimony in that case, and I'm not convinced it will be a guilty verdict. In fact, I'd say there is a decent chance of acquittal.

McMichael wasn't trying to make a citizen's arrest, he was simply trying to follow Arbery. That's not illegal. McMichael testified that he never touched Arbery, never tried to block him with his truck, never pointed a gun at him, and was standing on the road, with his truck parked, looking around to see which way Arbery had gone when he saw Arbery running at him. That's when McMichael got his gun out of the truck cab and pointed it at Arbery for the first time. Arbery ran around the back of the truck, then came to the front and jumped at McMichael and tried to grab his rifle. The neighbor's video shows Arbery coming at McMichael and trying to grab the gun, right before he gets shot.

274 Austin defunded the police, I mean reallocated funding to have a more holistic approach to policing. Then we had an election this month to refund the police. The leftist screamed that would take money from libraries and parks and "mental health" resources. Austin shot it down 2 to 1. Those funds were taken from the police to begin with and they were trying to restore it.
There is starting to be regular shootings on the weekends in the downtown entertainment district. One guess on the demographics of who is doing the shooting... interestingly they also seem to be under 21 or minors...so no charges/ prosecution. Like that kid that shot 6 people a few months back and was out on bail in less than 24 hours and you hear nothing about.

290 165 Hmmm, is this true?

FUN FACT: The US government murdered 10,000 Americans during prohibition when they poisoned alcohol to try and stop people from drinking.
]]]]]]
It's true, confirmed by a social history of the Prohibition I purchased recently. Industrial alcohol at that time was raw ethyl alcohol (hence the "paint thinner" jokes), so people naturally raided supplies for a baseline stock for bathtub gin, etc. By order of the Government in support of Prohibition, wood alcohol was added to industrial alcohol to act as a deterrent. A number of people were poisoned before this was known, and even after it was known. Get your shine only from the proper sources, Horde.

I haven't followed closely, but I thought their defense was that it *was* an attempted citizen's arrest:

"The judge ruled Friday afternoon that under Georgia's old citizen's arrest law, the one applied in this case, the arrest would have to occur right after any felony crime was committed, not days or months later.

The defense argued that the ruling guts their case."

I thought the three were patrolling the area because there were current reports of a prowler scoping out house builds in the neighborhood. And that Arbery was toting a hammer while "jogging".

Besides, just got an offer to go for a walk with my grandson so no contest.

Maybe so (and I am not a lawyer) but I think the problem here is that the law in GA says you can't legally attempt a citizen's arrest unless you reasonably believe that a felony has just been committed, and they didn't argue that this was the case.

(And if they were not attempting a legal citizen's arrest, then what they were doing was attempted kidnapping or unlawful detention or something like that. And if the killing was a consequence of one of those crimes, it's felony murder rather than self defense.)

323 165 Hmmm, is this true?

FUN FACT: The US government murdered 10,000 Americans during prohibition when they poisoned alcohol to try and stop people from drinking.
