My completely uneducated guess is that the vaccine prevents too many "small sniffle" low viral load infections that provoke natural immune responses. Theoretically keeps the virus from spreading like doomsday wildfire, but, oh boy, watch out if you are exposed long enough to creep over the artificial protection threshold.

Down a 32 oz. Gatorade and eat a banana. I find that that usually does cramps in, which I get majorly (hands, feet, legs) when I am dehydrated after long hot sweaty day of work. Happened a few times this summer working on the house. That seems to knock them out quick. Sometimes two Gatorades.

I am not blaming the Horde. At all. I am with y'all. I am so. fucking. tired of this. I see cow-orkers wandering around with maskeses, even at the end of the day when there are maybe two or three people in a fairly large office. I basically carry my face diaper in my hand and pretend to put it on if I run cross certain individuals (we have a few karens). Until the afternoon. My office gets really dead around 1600. I often work until 1800.
20 fucking months. I am beyond sick of this shit. One thing I'll say about my office: not a fucking peep about the jab. So, that's a good thing.

I won the genetic lottery on the reflux front. Probably something about the lower esophageal sphincter. My dad had epic reflux and sleep apnea. Bear in the woods type snoring where you could hear him stop breathing and snort himself back to normal every half hour. At least I didn't get that from him. I keep a bottle of Rolaids on my nightstand, eat them like candy when half-awake, but the real trick is avoiding any big meals after 4pm, otherwise I can't roll onto my side in bed without getting a wave of acid about 30 seconds later.

it is a nice eggless form of cake, and can be made without much sugar. The old recipes I use don't use much sugar but will call for molasses and hard sauce to bring out the sweetness.
When you blow a recipe though it turns out greyish and the texture is nasty. But that is from not boiling long enough

I remember in our electronics shop a new piece of test equipment for one device. So we had the old set and the new set. And we found out the hard way that both sets used the same keyed cannon plug for power, but they had swapped the hot and ground leads.
Was a tingle one never forgot so we promptly tagged which cable went to which set. About a month later ACC sent out a TCTO to tag the cables. We were a field unit, not a test and eval unit that should have caught this.

Eh, bad dude? He was extremely competent. Very intelligent. Charismatic. Utterly convinced his way was the right way. The Tetrarchy is such a clusterfuck of an idea that only a brilliant person would think it might work.
He did bring stability, and the Romans had given up on 'Freedom' a long ways back. The problem is the system of feudalism he instituted meant that local landowners (lords) could act independently of the state and be self sufficient and in turn it was in their interest to withhold workers from the legion press gangs.
In bringing stability he created a system that sewed the seeds of the fall of the western empire. It did not HAVE to be so (see Eastern empire or the feudal empires of the middle ages) it just worked out that way when you also threw in all the other shit.

Carlo Cipolla, an historical economist, pointed out once that since these state controlled prices were the same everywhere in the empire, the chances they were obeyed anywhere outside of Rome were negligible.
Barter probably came about because of the collapse of the money but would have been that way whether or not Diocletian set prices.

The Tyson game hens I bought had a guide on the back. I believe they recommended an hour at 375 (don't trust me on that temp, since I can't recall). If the bird weighs more than 18 oz, give it another 15 minutes. I looked up a trussing video, and basically salted and peppered the birds inside and out, and basted every 15 minutes with butter.
I usually like to make a wild rice mix to go with it, but for Thanksgiving, I'll make a bread stuffing and some turkey neck gravy to go with.

The old General Stores in this country operated on three basic methods of payment. Actual cash money or specie, credit, and barter. The Romans (and everybody else in history) probably operated similar. Sure was. It was a used engine from some car I parted out. I honed the cylinders with a 3-stone hone, picked my best set of used pistons, having numerous sets from which to pick. Selected the best used rings, and scuffed the O.D. of each ring with a sanding drum in a Dremel tool to deglaze it. Hand picked the best main and rod bearings from several sets, and Plasti-gauged them to ensure they were in spec for clearance. It was a deliberate experiment to see what could be done with essentially junk parts. Really, only two of the six cylinders failed badly, and most of that I would attribute to the oil rings having lost all tension.
The engine was really only intended to be a placeholder until I could build a really good overhauled (with new parts) 185 flathead six. But the car ended up being a daily driver both last year and this year, due to Covid border restrictions. If this rering job gets me through until April, it will have be a success.

I never represented it as a "rebuilt" engine. It was a cleaned-up, patched engine. And I deliberately painted it garish colors so that nobody would mistake it for either a stock engine or a rebuilt one. Block is bright red, head is gray, oil pan is dark metallic green, timing cover light metallic blue. Valve cover original Studebaker yellow, and it still shines, a little.

what in the world is *icing*????
I ask because it's mentioned in a classic Peanuts strip about hockey fans. I looked it up and never knew it existed. It sounds as if, if a puck hits the opponent's net from the "wrong" angle, the goal doesn't count??
Makes no sense to me. I always thought that in hockey, the object was to get your puck in the opponent's net as often as possible by any means necessary. Anyway it's no biggie, I don't understand American football either. :-)

The crease is the small rectangular area in front of the net. The goalie's domain.
Icing is shooting the puck down the ice to get it out of play. I think it has to cross at least two lines, the center line and one blue line, to be called as icing. But, if it is a shot on goal, it's not icing.

A frankenbaker, lol. yeah I had a feeling it was a piece together. Nice crank and bearings, but a few smoked pistons with huge spaces in the ring grooves, which takes some miles to do. And then there's...you. lol I used to pull those stunts on old harley engines just to see what I could get away with. A friend had a really, really tired engine and he had the brain storm of experimenting on it. I knurled a set of pistons to make them slightly bigger, knurled the guides, used valves from god knows how many different motors, and probably a dozen other "fixes". I think we used to new rings. Damn thing ran fine for a few years, then we redid the whole thing. We still laugh about that one.

No, it's not that. If the play is in front of your goal, and you are hard-pressed, and fear you may lose control of the puck, and allow an opposing player to score, you ice the puck. Play stops, the referee or linesman calls for a faceoff in your zone, drops the puck, and play resumes. The "price" for icing the puck is that the faceoff is in your zone, and if the opposing team wins the faceoff, they could score a quick goal. The payoff is that the stoppage of play gives your team a moment to regroup, and takes the momentum away from the opponents. Usually happens many times in every game.

Watch a few hockey games on TV. It's pretty good entertainment, and you will see plenty of instances of icing, and probably many actual penalties, too.

That intrigued me. I looked it up. Supposedly, back in the day, a Youngstown College coach, Dwight Beedle, invented it. Previously, a whistle was blown to indicate a penalty, and that was confusing, as a whistle was blown to indicate the play was over. Beedle supposedly asked his wife if she could come up with something colorful to be used. She sewed together some "flags" might out of old Halloween costumes.
He asked the referees to use, thrown them down, to signal a play. One of the referees, George McPhee loved it, and started using it. A commissioner of one of the college conferences loved it when he saw McPhee using it, and in 1943 adopted for whatever college conference he was over.
The NFL adopted it in 1948. The flags were originally white, but were later changed to yellow. They were originally weighted with BBs, but there was some unfortunate incident where a player was struck with the flag and the BBs got in his eye. They've been weighted with sand ever since.

Hockey actually has very few "line" rules, compared to most sports. Basically, just offsides, and icing. AOP covered icing. Well, more complete answer is a team, while at even strength with the other team, firing the puck from *their* side of the center ice red line, beyond the opponent's goal line (outside the goal, of course, that would be a score), without any opposing player touching it, or being in a reasonable position to do so.
Rule prevents a team just killing the clock by firing the puck to the far end, without a disincentive.

That BB incident occurred in 1999, and the player was Orlando Brown, who played for the Cleveland Browns. A ref threw a flag, and it went right above his face guard and hit him in his right eye.
He then shoved the ref, and was ejected from the game. They suspended him, but lifted it after it was learned he was temporality blinded. They used sand to weight the penalty flags ever since.
He sued the NFL for $200M, saying that incident ruined his career. It was settled for some undisclosed sum.
Brown was found dead in 2011, age 40. The coroner determined he died of diabetic ketoacidosis.
