The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I have one consistency, which is being against the totalitarian – on the left and on the right. The totalitarian, to me, is the enemy; the one that’s absolute, the one that wants control over the inside of your head, not just your actions and your taxes.” –Christopher Hitchens

Quote II

"We're here today because we need immediate relief at the gas pump and the place to look is the Strategic Petroleum Reserve," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (Dumb Fuck-NY)

Quote III

"The hardest part is going to be the leaving, not the being. So it's the ripping that I dread, not so much the presence because I think once I'm there, I'll be OK," Deana Martin

Quote IV

"..... because "the woke" have no sense of humor and, therefore, take everything literally and then judge it against their own very-questionable (double-)standards. Let's face it; you have to be a humorless, dumb-as-dogshit, non-contextual, hypocritical fucktard to be "woke", otherwise it don't work. Matthew Noto

Quote V

“Things are a lot better in this country than they were a year ago.” White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain

Being the fair and balanced Cob that I am, I won't speculate if the dead bomber and 3 others taken into custody are practicing members of "The Religion of Pieces".

A taxi driver apparently locked a suicide bomber in his car after spotting explosives before a blast ripped through the vehicle outside a maternity hospital in Liverpool on Sunday.

The explosion, reported at 10:59am, came moments before the nation fell silent to mark Remembrance Day and killed the cab passenger and injured the driver, named locally as David Perry.

The car passenger, a man, was declared dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified. Mr Perry was injured and was tonight being treated for 'non-life threatening' injuries, which friends said included burns and shrapnel wounds.

The incident took place as a remembrance service involving more than 2,000 military personnel, veterans and civic dignitaries, was happening at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral less than a mile away.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed it is aware and actively looking into reports about tens of thousands of fake cyber-attack warnings sent from one of their official email accounts.
The emails warning of a “sophisticated” cyber security threat were first flagged on Saturday by cyber security experts on social media, forcing the FBI to publicly confirm the agency was “aware of the incident this morning involving fake emails from an @ic.fbi.gov email account.”

“This is an ongoing situation and we are not able to provide any additional information at this time,” the FBI said in a statement to Nexstar, adding that the public should report any “suspicious” emails from “unknown senders.”

Government Begins Investigation of Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta Crash

Earlier this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation of Tesla’s Autopilot program. Why? Well, it seemed as though a significant numbers of Teslas running Autopilot had a tendency to crash into the vehicles of first responders — which is not a great situation for anyone involved. Now, the NHTSA is investigating another one of Tesla’s features — though in this case, the scope of the investigation is limited to one crash.

As Reuters reports, the crash under investigation involves a Model Y that went into the wrong lane while making a left turn — and was subsequently struck by another car. The car was in Full Self-Driving Beta mode, and according to the report, the driver attempted to take over control of the Model Y. At that point, the account of the crash continues, “the car by itself took control and forced itself into the incorrect lane.”

Is there hope for the Stupid Party Republican Party?

A group of former U.S. Navy SEALs who are now running for Congress dressed down the Biden administration for foreign policy decisions, including the tumultuous Afghanistan withdrawal.

Retired Navy SEALs – Ryan Zinke, Eli Crane, Morgan Luttrell, Brady Duke, and Derrick Van Orden – appeared on Fox News this week. The Navy SEALs turned congressional candidates ripped President Joe Biden for leaving Americans in Afghanistan.

Ryan Zinke – former Secretary of Interior – called for congressional investigations to discover exactly how many people that Biden deserted in Afghanistan – which is estimated to be as many as 14,000 U.S. legal permanent residents.

If you paid a couple of thousand dollars for a piece of exercise equipment: You should be able to use any f*cking #hashtag you desire in your profile.

"Let's Go Brandon!" has become a political rallying cry among conservative-Trump-loving Americans to show their defiance against President Biden. The phrase has gone viral since Oct. 2's NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, after a reporter interviewing racecar driver Brandon Brown quickly spoke over the crowd who was chanting "F@ck Joe Biden!" She said, "You can hear the chants from the crowd. Let's go Brandon!"

The "Let's Go, Brandon" movement is a unique public response that shows their discontent for the Biden administration. Billboards, bumper stickers, yard signs, rap songs, guns, memes, and trending hashtags continue to go viral. But one place that has banned the phrase is fitness equipment company Peloton.

According to PJ Media, Peloton members used the tag "#LetsGoBrandon" in their profile to connect with other like-minded users. Not too long after they tagged their profiles, Peloton immediately banned the use of it.

Former "Conservative pundit" and hallucinogenic consumer Matt Lewis gives us the Chris Christie/Liz Cheney ticket. What did they say at Woodstock? "That the brown acid that is circulating around us isn't too good. It is suggested that you stay away from that. Of course it's your own trip."

Lewis should heed that advice.

Could Chris Christie and Liz Cheney Take Trump Down?

Liz Cheney and Chris Christie could pose a more formidable challenge, and be less convenient foils, than the candidates Trump rolled over on his way to the presidency in 2016.

What if Donald Trump has to fight a grudge match against Liz Cheney and Chris Christie on his way to a second term? This scenario is probably more likely than you might think—one with significant consequences.

Go ahead Fat Boy. Run Waddle for the White House and see what happens.

On "Axios on HBO," former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took a tough opening shot at potential 2024 candidates who plan to decide whether to run based on what former President Trump does:

"Those people who say that they will defer to Donald Trump have disqualified themselves from being president," Christie told me during a wide-ranging interview in New Jersey. "Because if you're not willing to stand up to someone, ... how can you ... be standing up for everyone when you're president?"
Why it matters: Christie, who's gaming out a possible run in 2024, is signaling he has no fear of tangling with Trump, a friend of 20 years from whom he has been estranged since 1/6. And he's painting more cautious Republicans as cowardly.

Well I paint him as a Lard Ass mealy-mouth politician.

The good old barber shop, home of outdated periodicals, embellished stories and Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

BALTIMORE — An off-duty Baltimore police officer who was getting a haircut Saturday became involved in a fatal shooting of a suspect believed to have been behind a weekend shooting spree in the city that left two people dead and one critically injured, police said.

Responding officers arrived at the barbershop and “learned that an armed gunman walked into the business and shot and killed” a male barber before an off-duty police officer who was in the business at the time “shot the suspect, killing him,” according to a press statement by the Baltimore Police Department.

Brass Against Responds After Lead Singer Sophia Urista Peed On Fan's Face During Gig

68 A while back, Marvel created a black teenage girl character to take over Iron Man's role as "person flying around in gold and red power armor" in the comic books. Unlike the Kate Bishop Hawkeye situation in which Kate was adopting the identity of an already dead character (who later came back, of course, since comic books), Tony Stark was removed basically just so that this new character could be introduced. Since Iron Man has the word "man" in it, and the character in question was a girl, the name had to be changed. She was given the name "Ironheart".

Fast forward to today, and Disney has apparently announced that - since Tony Stark is dead in the movies - they'll be introducing the Ironheart character into the MCU to take his place.

And that's where the funny - and old - news comes into play.

Quite a while back, a Japanese p*rn movie studio released an Iron Man parody movie, with a female lead. The name of this movie is "Ironheart".

And the movie was released roughly two years before the new comic book character was introduced.

Oops!

83 I read one of the most frightening articles I've seen in a while in CNN, oddly enough.

One of the major reasons keeping China from invading Taiwan is that if China does so, the world fundamentally changes.

No more tens of thousands of Chinese students in American universities, no more relying on China to be the workshop of the world, and a sharp turn to anti-Chinese policies in the US and the West. (If thousands of American servicemen are killed during the Taiwan War, the reaction will be even greater, of course.) Well, Xi, partially using the Covid epidemic as an excuse, is having China preemptively withdrawing from the world. They're getting ready.

With the borders virtually sealed, even China's top leaders are bunkering down in the country. Neither Xi nor Premier Li Keqiang, or the other five members on the party's top decision-making Politburo Standing Committee, are known to have made foreign visits during the pandemic.

Xi's China is closing to the world. And it isn't just about borders

Here's a snip from a Daily Mail article today:

A footnote in the 22-page ruling included a Twitter post from September 9 retweeted by Ron Klain.

'OSHA doing this vaxx mandate as an emergency workplace safety rule is an ultimate work-around for the Federal govt to require vaccinations,' MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle posted.

One member of the bench, Judge Kurt Engelhardt, ruled that Klain's retweet was an 'endorsement' of the phrase 'work-around.'

Engelhardt wrote in the court's opinion that public interest is 'served by maintaining our constitutional structure and maintaining the liberty of individuals to make intensely personal decisions according to their own convictions.

Appearing to refer to Klain he added, 'Even, or perhaps particularly, when those decisions frustrate government officials.'

---

This, and the other items you mentioned, all bear notice. I wouldn't trust Beijing, but the CCP is not in a good position to start causing too much trouble in the world right now. Evergrande finally declared bankruptcy this week, iirc, and a lot of Chinese are about to lose a lot of money. The population is aging, and the government promises decent social benefits to the elderly (the so-called "Iron Rice Bowl"). Killing off the young in a war would be one of the most foolish moves that Beijing could make at this time.

Further, it's not clear how well the military would fight. I don't know for sure whether or not they're real. But there are videos purporting to be of PLA troops being sent to the border with India, where skirmishes have been taking place. The videos show the PLA troops - who are only sons who in many cases have spent their lives being coddled by their parents - breaking down in tears at the realization that they could be going into combat.

225 pep - but why start a war that ends up with the destruction of your military, and the end of your reign (and probably your life), when you can instead wipe out your domestic enemies and still rule, albeit over a nation not nearly as impressive as many once thought it was.

China is still a very clannish place, and the Han (I think that is Xi's clan) is taking steps to solidify their control of the country as the mercantile export everything to the USA ends, and their prosperity with it. Biden is a jerk, but there is no indication that anyone in DC is super interested in getting rid of Trump's tariffs, and economically no one likes them. Yeah, China likes to use their money to help dems.

Since when has the dem party ever shown any loyalty to anyone in their family, once their usefulness was no longer needed? China is starting to learn about that reality.

226 @208 Do the Vietnamese have a military?

----

That would be the last army that fought a major war with the Chinese...

... and beat them.

Historically, China's armies start to have trouble after they get outside their borders. Whether that's changed is anyone's guess, since the Chinese haven't fought a major war since their failed invasion of Vietnam.

Understandable about Stiller. He does tend to play Ben Stiller in almost every movie he's in. But Dodgeball works with him in it. Vince Vaughan and his crew are great in the movie. As is Jason Bateman. Highly quotable movie. But I do totally get your point about skipping movies because of an actor you hate. For me, that's Clooney. Can't stand him so I avoid his movies.

255 @241 China has almost no friends in SE Asia.

----

Historically, China has been geographically isolated. The Chinese have attempted at various times throughout their history to take control of their neighboring countries, or act in a similar fashion to the western colonial powers. And historically, those attempts have all ended miserably after the Chinese powers placed in charge managed to tick off the locals. The Vietnamese actually do have one Chinese governor (who governed the northern half of the peninsula; the southern half remained free) who they respect. He served during the Three Kingdoms era. But other than that, they have complete contempt for the Chinese.

For their part, a recent popular period piece TV series in South Korea was a loosely biographical four season series about a Korean prince who kicked out some of the local Chinese still hanging around in the Korean Peninsula at the time, and founded his own kingdom.

Lovely. It isn't enough to close down what appears to be a second gas line, it isn't enough to close ANWR, nor to renege on public land leases, nor to coerce banks into not working with oil producers, nor to levy back breaking restrictions, regulations, taxes and mandates on petroleum production - now they have to burn down the strategic petroleum reserve, so when a true emergency arises (like the next war the junta is trying to provoke), there will be no oil anywhere.

The Real Me is the Who rocking at its best. Entwistle's amazing bass work was apparently Entwistle's first recorded take and him goofing off. The rest of the band said it was amazing and that would be the first and last take of his bass on the song. That came from an Entwistle interview that you can find somewhere on the net.

If you get the latest version of quadrophenia, it includes the demos that Pete used when writing Quadrophenia including the real me. Remember the Diamond Princess cruise ship? This and similar behavior led some to speculate that there was pre-existing immune cross-reactivity to the Covid virus. Well, there's a study out (peer-reviewed, BTW) that confirms this, and the exact mechanism. The "RTC" complexes of coronaviruses are highly conserved.

Well, a large number of the population, due to exposure to previous coronaviruses (that cause common colds) had immune recognition of these RTC epitopes.

Their immune system recognized it, "Aha, I know you! Intruder alert! Hunter-killers activate! Seek and destroy!" The result was near sterilizing immunity based on this cross-recognition.

Well, guess what? Our Top Men have done something that likely destroyed that cross-immunity....

I am not sure about this. I agree serving doesn't make you a good politician or a good leader. But I do respect service. We can all give examples of people who served and also were libs. The Marines have John Glenn, Chuck Robb and many others.

But it is still noteworthy. It doesn't make your views matter more, but it is a good test of character in general. We broke the chain of electing presidents who served around Clinton. I don't think that change was very helpful.

Glad you found it useful. You can find a lot of Who interviews and such on Youtube among other bands. And a lot of rare concert footage and recordings that you used to have to pay a lot of bucks for a bootleg recording on those songs. I think you can find chunks of the Quadrophenia music on youtube as well with the music. Entwistle himself remixed the movie soundtrack so you tend to notice the bass more than in the original album's vinyl mix which was muddy in the US.

That being said, the 50th Anniversary of Quadrophenia comes in 2023. It is the 50 year anniversary of Who's Next in 2021. They might have a special release cd or even vinyl for this with extras on it.

Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski on Saturday said a rumour was being spread among the migrants that on Monday Poland would allow them through and coaches would come from Germany to pick them up.

The government has sent a text message to all foreign mobile phones along the border saying: "It's a total lie and nonsense! Poland will continue to protect its border with Belarus."

"Those who spread such rumours seek to encourage the migrants to storm the border," the text message reads.

I have enjoyed listening to various Who tracks in isolation, i.e., just the bass line from Won't Get Fooled Again, or just the drums/guitars. It's fun to listen to the mastery of the instruments on their own.

387 Not to worry. The US "government" has said it is working with "allies" to deter RUSSIA! and is prepared to impose sanctions for misbehavior.

Which will surely compensate for the massive, massive windfall for Moscow of needlessly high energy prices and the Nordstream projects being revived - the only external policy issues of any real importance to Russia.

But, as I need hardly remind everyone, the mid-terms.

394 Hi JQ, How have you been?

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at November 15, 2021 01:17 AM (a4EWo)

395 Americans always elected vets because it said something about the country, not the person. Sure some of it had to do with history. If you don't have major wars, you likely won't get a huge percentage who served.

The election of Clinton was a watershed event. That was the day America said they were done with vets, they didn't matter anymore in a national political sense. Let others judge if that was a good or bad thing. Since then we have had Bill, Obama, and Biden.

I see the problems with the military, we all see them. And for sure anyone should be able to run. But if someone thinks no longer considering military service is a good thing, I legit have a problem with that. Look at the presidents in the last century. Both sides were patriotic even if they didn't agree on the meaning. Today, what exactly do we have?

That's where the hybrid warfare comes in, unfortunately.

Yes, the Poles would be perfectly justified under international law shooting anyone entering Poland illegally, but rest assured that Western media would turn that into a war crime. That's what Lukashenko wants.

Unfortunately, they have to maintain the security of their borders using minimum force, and rely on the rest of Europe placing enough sanctions on Belarus to get them to stop. The other European countries have the sense to figure out that the "migrants" don't intend to stop in Poland.
