Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Iran-Backed Militants Storm US Embassy in Yemen, Seize HostagesThe State Department is working to secure the release of several hostages taken by Iran-backed terrorists after they stormed the U.S. embassy facility in Sana'a, Yemen, U.S. officials told the Washington Free Beacon early Thursday. A group of Houthi rebels reportedly stormed the U.S. compound on Wednesday seeking "large quantities of equipment and materials," according to regional reports translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute. The raid comes just five days after the Houthis kidnapped Yemeni nationals who work for the U.S. embassy. The State Department confirmed to the Free Beacon that the Yemeni staffers are being held hostage and that the Iran-backed militants stole property after breaching the American facility in Sana'a, which housed U.S. embassy staff prior to the suspension of operations there in 2015. "The United States has been unceasing in its diplomatic efforts to secure their release," a State Department spokesman told the Free Beacon.Oh. Meanwhile, Biden's giving Iran billions and trying to give them their nukes back. And we have the respect of the world! America is back, baby! Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The embassy was abandoned. When they abandpned it, they should have hired a local moving company to pack anything loose in containers and ship it out of the country, Except maybe a few chairs and some cots for a local security force.
The security force should be there only to call the local cops for help, and to keep the locals from stripping the copper pipes and wires, or planting bugs or bombs. Posted by: rd at November 11, 2021 01:39 PM (Z32m1) 108

As for me, 1979 was a big-time year. I was married for the first time, quit drinking for the first time, moved back to Da Swamp from Da Small Swamp (Lafayette, which I hated -- though I'd love a town of 75K people now!), and began a novel. The city cops went on strike, which led to the Mardi Gras parades moving to the suburbs where I lived and to the phenomenon of women showing their boobs for beads. Plus I moved to a day shift at the courier company.
Like now, I paid very little attention to the "nightly news," so I barely aware of the hostage crisis in Iran. '79 was also the last truly great year for pop music. "Sultans of Swing," "Hot Stuff/Bad Girls," "Break My Stride," "Stumblin' In," "Do Ya think I'm Sexy," "When You're in Love With a Beautiful Woman," "The Logical Song," "He's the Greatest Dancer" . . . too many to list. True. If/when China retakes Taiwan, we'd sit back and do nothing. But no mean tweets, so there's that.
Posted by: Wyatt Earp == China can dream about it - our DOD can hype it in front of whatever appropriation request they have in front Congress at the moment. Japan's airforce alone would stop the transports getting to the Taiwanese shore. And our subs would clean up the rest. Until Australia builds some of ours of course. And China knows all of this. It would be a suicide mission. Posted by: Black JEM at November 11, 2021 01:51 PM (V6xwG) 209

230 In '79 I was driving my first car -- well, it really was my wife's car: a '75 Ford Maverick 4-dr. she'd bought outright, new, with a small inheritance in '76. I learned a lot about how to take care of a car on that green beast. It was reliable and pretty economical for the times (gas went to $1/gallon that year, I believe). I'd find it tinny and uninvolving now -- it delivered about 100 hp from a 250 cid six-cylinder! -- but after years of riding buses, I loved it.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at November 11, 2021 01:54 PM (txdEq) ---------------------- My high school girlfriend had a '75 Maverick. The floor on the driver's side had rusted out, so her Dad had screwed a piece of 2x4 to the inside of the driver's door and mounted the dimmer switch to it, so that she could smack it with the side of her knee. Good times. Posted by: Pennsyltucky at November 11, 2021 02:05 PM (lNHqD) 304
You'll know that the balloon is about to go up if you start reading about rioting in Narva.
Narva is the third biggest city in Estonia, is right on the Russian border, and is almost entirely Russian. Only half the inhabitants are Estonian citizens, and a third are Russian citizens (the rest are stateless). Standard NATO planning assumption is that if Putin moves against the Baltics, he'll start with encouraging civil unrest in Narva, so he can claim to be intervening to protect the inhabitants there. Funny how fat college kids were unusual back in the 70's. And the fashions were definitely not for muffin tops. I hated the skin tight pants with pockets you might be able to get a quarter into. I stuck with 501's since I liked to carry a wallet and a knife, and didn't want a purse. Which they were pushing even back then. Somebody like the typical chubby purple haired lefties just didn't exist. I'm guessing sedentary video game lifestyle, processed foods and social media did this.

Just wait until we cut off all their financing. I was thinking about that when on my morning walk. With pretty much every asset class over-bought right now, I can see where the wealthy can cut-off financing of much of the energy sector to keep for themselves. Eventually, and we are seeing it now, that the non-dispatchable energy sources are failing to deliver (as everyone with a brain predicted). The hydrocarbon industry is treated in such a manner, that when it becomes an EMERGENCY, then only the investor class will be able to finance emergency hydrocarbon production that will, due to the emergency status, be able to skip around all of the environmental roadblocks. This is yet another massive money and power grab - this time over the energy sector. Posted by: Reuben Hick at November 11, 2021 02:15 PM (+LCoQ) 357

And every apartment I lived in, and house I visited too, had shag carpeting or wall-to-wall carpeting. It was as though people were ashamed of wood floors. Nowadays real wood floors are prized, and you can have your floors converted to artificial wood paneling; it's considered a big plus. But back then, it was thought of as "old-fashioned," I guess.

340 I came of age in the 70's, and although a lot of it sucked for the adults, it was an absolutely fantastic and amazing time to be a teen. You could do anything you wanted.
This statement is true. I remember the HS rifle team members could bring their .22s on the bus and keep them in the locker once at school.
