In shocking new research spotted by Sapien Journal, scientists found that children are surprisingly terrible at identifying where certain kinds of meat come from. Alarmingly, nearly 40 percent of children interviewed for the research believed that hot dogs come from plants — and more than 46 percent thought french fries were a type of animal. A shocking 41 percent were unable to correctly pinpoint that bacon comes from an animal. The root of the issue may be what is often referred to as the “meat paradox:” the fact that children are aware producing meat products entails animal suffering, while still endorsing the empathetic treatment of animals. We have polluted our classrooms with this shit. There hasn't been much talk about a fourth stimulus check, and while the chances of a wide-spread direct payment from the government coming this year are slim, there is another check going out to millions of Americans in less than a week. On Monday, the latest monthly advance payment of the Federal Child Tax Credit will hit the bank accounts of eligible families, giving them up to $300 for every child under the age of six, and up to $250 for each kid ages six to 17. It is the fifth such check, with recipients having gotten the same amounts in July, August, September and October. They'll receive one more this year, in December, and then there could be many more to come after that if the White House gets their way - they recently stated how they want the benefit around for "years and years to come. In addition, you are carrying a can of bear spray that you hope you’ll never need to use. All in all, though you realize there is a semblance of danger undertaking a hike in this area, you feel like you’ve done your homework in preparing for any potential encounter with a grizzly bear. South Africa has its problems. But it appears one of those problems won't be the lack of coal. South Africa on Monday declined to sign a commitment to end financing for coal production within 30 years, joining a growing list of countries that are refusing some of the United Nations’ most burdensome climate change demands – a list headed by the world’s worst polluter and largest burner of coal, China. The pledge advanced at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, proposed an end to financing for coal by the 2030s for major economies and 2040s for developing nations. 40 national governments and institutions signed the pledge, but South Africa was not among them. It seems this happened recently to a Russian diplomat in Berlin who fell from the upper floors of the Russian embassy in the German city. An unexplained death occurred at the Russian embassy in Berlin. According to information from SPIEGEL, property protectors of the Berlin police discovered a lifeless body on the sidewalk in front of an embassy building in Berlin on October 19 at around 7:20 a.m. Resuscitation attempts by rescue workers who were called were unsuccessful, reported Der Spiegel. A man allegedly was so angry that his father came home with the wrong order of chicken wings that he shot at him. Alika Unaga Suliafu, 31, got into an argument with his father when he arrived at their apartment with wings that were not to his liking on October 21, an arresting police officer testified, according to court documents obtained by Fox 13. The fight in Bountiful, Davis County, Utah, last month got heated and Suliafu reportedly grabbed a gun and pointed it at his dad, who begged him not to pull the trigger. I took my mom to the cardiologist today, and we were discussing a couple of arteries with partial blockages. She said she didn't want anything done (besides being quite risky at her age), and the doc said it's a free country. We don't make people take treatments here... except apparently a vaccine. He then asked her if she had had the shots, she said no, and he said "good".

Along with AM general type stations and the type of pop music that used to be played on them. Usually John Denver, Captain and Tenilile type stuff that most younger and older people could handle at the tims. These stations were usually the biggest in the area and had some talk, some news, some music, usually the local team play by play, and were where you went in weather or news emergencies. Most changed format to some niche or another in the late 70s or early 80s. Posted by: Azjaeger at November 09, 2021 10:15 PM (3/XaG) 62

Had a thought for a change:
Namely that once upon a time (in the more recent centuries), the inquisitive creators and engineers were always looking for new and more efficient ways to do things, resulting in mere details like running water, telephones, and a gasoline distribution in the United States where you are almost always within 50 miles of a reputable gas station. This of course was all due to old school thinking and teaching the basics. Now, in this day of enlightenment the ever acquisitive politicians and their imbecilic Deep Establishment drones are always looking for, and sadly finding, ways to prevent the creation of new and efficient technologies, and hobble (or preferably destroy) the continued use of older existing technologies (see engine, gasoline or diesel) in the brave new corrupt world they rule! A good subject for First World Problems thread is: Home Title Lock.
This is a scam, here is why. In what other type of fraud is the victim of the fraud held liable? The bank accepts a fraudulent mortgage app on your property because they are too lazy or stupid or maybe even complicit, and you, the mortgage holder are expected to bail out the fraud perp AND the bank, who signed off on the fraud without any due diligence? Not even giving you a phone call? And we are expected to enroll in this title insurance company and subscribe to it in order to protect the banks from criminal prosecution. Way too many conservative broadcasts are pushing this crap, all of them, really. The salesman for the HTL is himself a convicted fraudster. Puh-leeze. The shows are hosted by former djs from the sixties and seventies. They have thousands of records including you would never hear on any other oldies station, and also local and regional stuff. I had a cousin who was in a local band in the sixties, and one afternoon they played his record. Posted by: nerdygirl at November 09, 2021 10:34 PM (+lVUW) 170

I never had the luxury of not knowing where our food came from. I grew up on a farm, I had a pet pig who wore a Robin cape while I wore my batman cape. But a few months later Robin went to market. Bertha the pet cow went to market when she stopped having calves. Even bubbles, our bottle lamb who followed my sister onto the school bus went to market.

214 hogmartin, I snagged a Remington 700 bare receiver that was sold off in bankruptcy pre Covid by Midwayusa for a song because it was long action and blued. The specs and quality on it were fine. But that wasn't true for some of the complete rifles sold before bankruptcy from what I've heard.
The 700 design itself is solid even now but we shall see about production and some of the aftermarket goodies sold by others has diminished. The shotguns will do ok if the quality is there. Which can always be a problem when you move production lines. Ironically, Ruger which bought Marlin from the bankrupt Remington got the better deal as Remington had just tooled up with new CNC production machines and tooling to replace the worn out junk from Marlin. Posted by: Common Tater at November 09, 2021 10:46 PM (1l8jw) Yes. The Saturday before Thanksgiving is about the last day one can buy a frozen turkey and have it thawed and ready for brining on Wednesday. Or for cooking on Thursday morning. Past that, it will need a cool water bath to thaw in time. Posted by: Count de Monet, Unvaccinated Kulak-American at November 09, 2021 10:51 PM (4I/2K) 261

I got my snow blower out of the shed today to prepare it for the upcoming season... Last season, I'd noted that one of the two bolts holding the silencer on was missing, but I didn't worry about it at the time... Today I attempted to rectify the situation, and the grand plan was to remove the existing bolt, measure it, and buy a matching bolt -- easy, right? Wrong! The existing bolt broke off in the matching threads on the cylinder... I should have just left well enough alone, but nooooo... (Yes, I am aware that there is technology to remove broken fasteners, but that would take......effort!) Anyway, I noted that the exhaust port is fortuitously threaded for a screw-in silencer and I've one ordered from Amazin' so all is well! Posted by: Zettai at November 09, 2021 10:52 PM (1c5s7) 263

Posted by: Not a Dime to Spare at November 09, 2021 10:49 PM (iioGr) Interesting argument. Does our support of the military in the past change now because the leaders are obviously corrupt and venal? Even if we change our minds about the current our reverence for those we have known who have served with honor and dignity does not change. Very few people break with ideas cleanly and sharply. If you had asked this same group about voting integrity 20 years ago, you might have gotten a different priority for it then as now. People change. Their viewpoints change based on circumstance and necessity. Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at November 09, 2021 10:53 PM (kBuGL) 265
214 Braenyard, nope, Remington was still hq'ed at Illion NY and still had Remington shotguns and the Remington 700 rifle produced there. Cerberus is the one that started merging other firearm companies into Remington--Marlin from New Haven CT, ParaUSA from NC and I believe that Remington had a barrel production facility there too, Bushmaster from ME, TAPCO from GA, and so on. Only Marlin production was moved to Illion and apparently it was a mess due to worn out production equipment and losing the Marlin personnel that made it work. Took years to straighten out. Then Huntsville, AL received the handgun, Tapco, and Bushmaster production along with the remaining ParaUSA 1911 production and apparently that did not go well either.

317 runner, just read NIH director report (from the now disgraced and resigned Dr. Collins) and some of the problems of the vaxx make sense now. Collins is chortling over the fact that a researcher indicated that the vaxx antibodies attached and bound up the ACE2 receptors in the body much more than antibodies from a natural infection.
So, that would tend to imply that these ACE2 receptors which are needed for natural functions like blood pressure and inflammation also are being locked up by artificial spike proteins from the vaxx. If the receptors are being blocked then you might see problems with the body's regulation of blood pressure and inflammation just as if you had Covid itself. The natural antibody system is targeting other proteins in the spike but not the receptors so much. Posted by: whig at November 09, 2021 11:26 PM (9hXN1) 365

The root of the issue may be what is often referred to as the "meat paradox" the fact that children are aware producing meat products entails animal suffering, while still endorsing the empathetic treatment of animals.
I buy a half-hog from the Future Farmers of America at the local high school every year. The kids raise a hog and then enter it in a competition. At the end of the competition, they have their hogs slaughtered and sell the meat to raise money for the club. One of the finest growth experiences for their emotional maturity. Many of the kids cry, but they understand what it is to lose something and move on in life. The kids that do it multiple years, which is the vast majority, really take the new kids under their wing. It's really a beautiful experience that prepares them for life, actually developing healthy empathy instead of irrational empathy. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at November 09, 2021 11:28 PM (5We2S) 370

Read the play "Bellamira" by Sir Charles Sedley (1687) if you seriously want some "not all that speaks with a British accent" is refined stuff. It was made into a BBC movie, circa 1974, with Helen Mirren as Bellamira, but, sadly, it appears to be out of "print".

Making his first public appearance in nearly two weeks, California Gov. Gavin Newsom finally gave a stated reason for abruptly canceling a trip to Scotland for a climate change summit. "I signed up to go to Europe and I was ready to go and I had that dinner -- a lot of you know this dinner with the family -- and the kids literally, they kind of had an intervention and said they couldn't believe I was going to miss Halloween," Newsom said at an economic summit in Monterey on Tuesday. "We've got a 5-year-old, the oldest is 12, so four young kids, and I'm defending myself, saying, 'I've got to go,' this and that, and my wife was going to go as well. "And mom and dad missing Halloween, for them it's worse than missing Christmas. And I woke up that next morning with something that's probably familiar to a lot of parents, that knot in your stomach. I had no damn choice: I had to cancel that trip." Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at November 09, 2021 11:56 PM (63Dwl) 441

As the Rittenhouse trial proves we no longer have a criminal justice system but a political injustice system...
LA County DA Gascón under fire as convicted killer set to be released 6 years into 50-year sentence As George Gascon closes in on his one year anniversary as Los Angeles County's district attorney, another controversial move by his office is raising questions about his criminal justice system reform policies. This month, his office used a legal technicality that will lead to the release of Andrew Cachu, a convicted murderer and documented gang member who was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Cachu was convicted of gunning down 41-year-old Louis Amela outside a Palmdale restaurant in 2015. At the time, Cachu was a few weeks shy of his 18th birthday, but was tried as an adult. An attorney for the Amela family says they are outraged about the release and shocked that the District Attorney's Office failed to even consult with them about the move. Well, I hooked my dead Alcatel flip phone to this Linux computer with a USB cable, and actually got into the phone's file system. I found a few trivial MMS messages that I didn't want. I found about five recognizable photos that I didn't want. But no contacts list, which I do want, or call history, which would supplant the contacts list. Many directories with zero bytes in them, and several .dat and .db files that either would not open, or open into gibberish.

At the TxMoMeet, I kinda demonstrated the shootin' of a 3" Ruger Alaskan in .44 Magnum. Pair of 1" groups fired double action at seven yards. What I ought to have done was fired a cylinder of six at the steel plate at the same distance. Six rounds of .44 mag says "NO, GRIZZLY!" in under two seconds, with far more emphasis than any pepper spray. But then, recoil scares me a LOT less than a Grizzly Bear! Point being, I've trained with the heavy recoil, not because I like it, but in order to fully master the lesser calibers, without fear. Train with a .454 Casul, or S&W .460 Mag. Everything else is cake, after those. (or .357 mag out of Scandium/Titainium anything else). Hi all, late night visit. Still in AZ cleaning out the in-laws place. This is tough for poor Jules, she has lost both her folks this year, Mom in Mar and Dad on Halloween. We have to be out of the apt by the 20th or get charged for another month.
They do seem to be a bit helpful, maybe because they failed to check on Jerry after his return from the hospital after a fall. You see he fell again the next day, they failed to check on him and he laid in the bathroom, in his own shit for 14 hours, almost died as his blood sugar got too low. He was sent to the health care section and died a few months later. That's quality "senior care" you pay good money to buy in for, then thousands a month in rent. I'm SIL, so I have to tread carefully. His 2 daughters are so tired, drained and don't want to fight, that's understandable. What to do...I'll start dealing w/ this mess again tomorrow, just wanted to vent here, TY. Posted by: Farmer at November 11, 2021 04:22 AM (PzqA/) Processing 0.1, elapsed 0.1032 seconds. |
