The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“They all knew the dossier was a lie, and they proceeded to use it anyway to attack and spy on Trump and other innocent Americans.” Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch

Quote II

“In my mind, this should’ve been stopped immediately by anyone that was there who has any moral value at all. I’m disgusted by it. … There were a lot of people there who could’ve handled this differently,” Armstrong High School principal, Kirk Lorigan

Quote III

“No matter where they live or who they voted for, all Americans deserve to have a transportation system that works for them,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg

Quote IV

“Religion is not inside the (City Hall) building. “It’s outside in the mosque and temple and the church. Not in City Hall.” Councilman Mohammed Hassan

Piers Morgan is an interesting chap. I've translated his opinion as, "Thugs gotta thug and should pay the price."

Travis Scott wants us to know he's 'just devastated' about the horrific deaths of eight of his fans at a concert on Friday.

In a tormented Instagram post the following night, the rap superstar repeatedly stroked his hair in apparent anguish as he said: 'I could never imagine anything like this happening.'

Scott, 30, spoke out after catastrophe unfurled during his performance at the Astroworld festival in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

Will anything happen? Who knows, I'm not holding my breath.

The Federal Bureau of Incompetence (FBI) once again proves: Conservatives are guaranteed to be subjected to laws which liberals aren't.

Two tiers of justice: FBI’s investigation into Ashley Biden’s “stolen” diary reveals agency’s selectivity with raids

Being a knee jerk conservative, I thought, "you dumb fucking dumb fuck." You don't need more laws or the police. Just use a search engine and type in gun safety rules. But it's not about gun safety on the movie sets. It's about Alec Baldwin weaseling his way out of criminal and civil prosecution.

Alec Baldwin is calling for new gun safety measures in the wake of the accidental shooting on the set of the movie Rust that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza wounded.

Hutchins and Souza were shot when a gun being held by Baldwin discharged while he was rehearsing a scene inside of a church. Baldwin was told that the weapon was "cold," which meant it did not contain live ammunition, by assistant director David Halls.

The movie's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, told police that she loaded the revolver with what she believed were dummy rounds in preparation for the scene. Somehow, a live bullet ended up in the box of dummy ammunition and was loaded into the revolver.

The film's producers have been under fire for what some crew members called "lackadaisical" gun safety on set. Baldwin chimed in on the debate over gun safety, calling for production companies to hire police officers to ensure proper firearm safety is practiced on film sets.

"Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety," Baldwin wrote on his now-private Twitter account.

Alec Baldwin is a vile despicable human being.

I wonder if there are any walleyes there. My kind of town in Minnesota.

Pranksters in Brandon, Minnesota, modified their town’s welcome signs to read “let’s go Brandon.”

This phrase is an anti-Biden slogan that originated when a newscaster who was interviewing NASCAR driver Brandon Brown mistakenly reported that the crowd was chanting “let’s go Brandon.” They were in fact saying “f– Joe Biden.” Now, crowds across America have begun to actually chant “let’s go Brandon” as a less vulgar means of voicing their opposition to the president.

Whoever modified Brandon’s town signs didn’t do any permanent damage, so the city said there will be no criminal investigation. However, City Clerk Deb Grommesh said further pranks of this nature will not be tolerated.

Lighten up Francis City Clerk Deb Grommesh.

America, land of the free, home of the brave Gestapo bureaucrats.

An Arizona school board coordinated with the Chandler Police Department to gather information on concerned parent groups and arrest unmasked parents at school board meetings.

The Chandler Unified School District’s (CUSD) Director of School Safety was in communication with Sergeant Greg Howarth, a Chandler police officer, in April and May, as parents were protesting mandatory masking in schools, according to emails obtained by the blog “Not in our Schools.” Howarth was tasked with aggregating intelligence on local concerned parent groups, all of whom are adamantly opposed to Critical Race Theory-inspired curriculum being taught in the district.

I wrote last week in The ONT there is no such thing as man made climate change. Once again I stand by that statement. Why is the shadow president overseas?

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow has entered its second week.
Sputnik goes live from Glasgow, Scotland, where the former US President Barack Obama is delivering remarks at the climate summit.
According to his press secretary Hannah Hankins, the former US president will reflect "on the resilience of the Paris Accords: young activists taking up the baton; continued global commitment; state, local and private sector progress".
Earlier, he took part in the “Partnerships for Island Resilience: Sharing solutions in the Great Ocean States” panel event.

Could Christmas be canceled because of SMOD? Doubtful, but one can wish.

An asteroid the size of the Eiffel Tower, will pass Earth in the early part of next month.

The asteroid, designated as 4660 Nereus by Nasa, is set to skim the planet on December 11.

Measuring around 1,080-foot long, the hefty space rock will be travelling at around 4,000mph.

Despite the fact it’s set to pass at a safe distance (2.4 million miles away) it’s still been designated as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA) by Nasa. That’s because, were something to change its trajectory, any impact would be devastating for humankind.

I'm still surprised at some of the excuses used in rationalizing away one's behavior. 'I sold my eggs for an Ivy League education – but was it worth it?'

My eyes flutter open. I’m surrounded by four nurses holding me upside down. They shake me back and forth, urging the blood back to my head. As I regain consciousness I wonder: is this worth it? That “it” is the $10,000 question.

Seven months ago, I received my acceptance to Columbia University’s School of Journalism. I was absolutely stunned to be admitted, but even more shocked by the $116,000 price tag – and that was just for tuition. The school, whose education is widely considered the golden standard in journalism, would provide me with unparalleled access, in an industry I currently felt immobile in.

When I was young, I wanted to own my own property. I enjoyed doing yard work. I took pride in the appearance and it's not bad exercise. I guess I'm not tragically hip unlike our story's author.

I HATE MOWING the lawn. First off, a vast expanse of unproductive grass is a waste—why have grass when you could have a garden, or an orchard, or all sorts of other useful plants? That I have to push around a device just to maintain this green wasteland makes it doubly insulting.

Fortunately, this summer I unleashed the Husqvarna 435X AWD automower on my lawn. Now I never have to think about mowing it again.

..................

There are two things I don't like about the Automower 435X. The first is the price. At $5,200, this is fantastically expensive. However, if you're already paying for a lawn service, it might pay for itself before too long. You also gain something that's hard to put a price on: silence.

Snow shoveling on the other hand?

Never bring a knife to a dog fight. Genius Award Winner.

An altercation led to a stabbing Saturday afternoon in north Springfield.

According to police, a person was stabbed around 3:30 p.m. outside of Motel 6 on North Glenstone Avenue.

Authorities say two men were walking their dogs on the opposite of a privacy fence separating Motel 6 and Econo Lodge hotel properties. There was a hole in the fence and both dogs started barking at each other and started fighting.

Age is a concept. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

M.J. ‘Sunny’ Eberhart is the oldest person to finish the Appalachian Trail. At 83 years young, he completed the hike on Sunday in Dalton, Mass.

It took a while, but what do you expect? “Sunny” Eberhart is 83 years old, and the Appalachian Trail is 2,193 miles long. On top of that, he hiked it out of order and started in an unusual location — his home in Flagg Mountain, Alabama.

But a record is a record

What is it about these women, aging actresses and shit, and these face lifts? Hallmark is running the Christmas movie crap, and Miley is watching that all the time. I see Kathie Lee Gifford on one of the things, and she looks a fright.

She has done nipped and tucked her face into a caricature of her former self. She looks like a haint.

Hallmark is where old actors go to die, apparently. I've seen Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) and Tom Skerritt and they both look decrepit. Tom Skerritt especially. He's 88, now, I see. He looks it. And Bobby Ewing looks like he's got one foot in the grave.

85 Well, the San Francisco Chronicle has finally acknowledged the Gavin Newsom rumors, if only to belittle them.

Silly peasants - Gavin's press secretary claimed that Gavin was working at the state capitol last week, and will resume public appearances sometime this week.

"Last week Governor Newsom worked in the Capitol with staff on urgent issues including COVID-19 vaccines for kids, boosters, ports, the forthcoming state budget and California's continued economic recovery," Lopez said. "He will have public events this week related to the economy and vaccines."

This is currently the #1 story on the Chronicle web site, so it seems that not everyone believes the press secretary.

153 Well, we are going to have an amusing demonstration of whether the laws actually apply to Important People.

Nicholas Kristof, the New York Times columnist, grew up in a rural part of Oregon close to Portland, left Oregon to go college, and resided elsewhere for forty years.

Apparently tiring of the columnist biz, Kristof decided that he wanted to be Governor of Oregon instead, and bought land in Oregon a few years ago. The election is next year.

He has already raised more than a million dollars from his wealthy friends (Melinda Gates kicked in $50,000), far outraising the other announced candidates in the race.

He just has one teensy problem - Oregon law says that to run for Governor, you have to be a resident of Oregon for three years. Kristof voted in New York in the 2020 election.

So, a very expensive lawyer is going to wander into a courtroom in Oregon soon to explain that the residency requirement obviously wasn't meant to apply to New York Times columnists.

Metallurgist, she claims to be. That's an affirmative action, girl power degree, I'm sure. There is a reason for low temperature testing of steel (toughness vs brittle transition and all that). Steel gets stronger but more brittle at lower temperatures, and all these tests are designed to establish the steel meets standards.

Freezing point of sea water depends upon salinity, of course. I think 3 or 4 degrees F is the normal freezing point. But at depth? Not sure. The point stands. If you want to be sure your steel batch isn't subject to low-temperature embrittlement, you test it at extreme cold.

There is also a huge effect on fatigue and fracture. Fatigue tests can be run well outside the operational envelope to accelerate fatigue so the test fails after a reasonable number of cycles to get your entire run done, then you extrapolate back to your operating temperature and figure out your fracture toughnesses in various modes and design a factor of safety for the application.

Whether the end product is actually ever exposed to -100F water is completely irrelevant. Temperature is an extremely powerful variable in materials testing, and you don't just fucking YOLO it because you're arrogant and lazy.

We're in AZ cleaning out my in-laws apt. Jerry died on Halloween, I'd bet he'd have a smart thing to say about that, he was a funny guy. For the past 2 yrs his wife was in the nursing care section, he was alone in their apt, blind and mostly deaf and he lived on his own, visited when allowed (the CCP flu didn't allow visits for months, cruel in my book).

She dies in March, we visit and he falls twice. We leave and he falls again, to hospital, sent home, then falls that day and is left on the floor for 14 hours, his blood sugar got to 24 and the hospital said he would have died in a couple more hours if not found. He then went to the nursing care part where he lasted a few months.

Nice care from a retirement community you buy into for for big bucks and then pay plenty per month. I'm waiting to talk to the director, phone call today not returned.

Yup. So typical of that side of the IQ spectrum. We need comprehensive gun safety blah blah blah.
Or how about this? How about the person responsible for the gun, for that scene, clears the gun, then only loads the gun on the set, with blanks she(!) has inspected. Extra points if the gun is then only directed in a safe direction in accordance with gun safety rules.

The internet sez the freezing point of typical seawater is about 28F (it varies, but that's the average, typical value).

And the Fahrenheit scale, named after Daniel Fahrenheit, Kraut physicist and instrument maker, used the lowest temperature thing they could come up with at the time. It was a mixture of water, ice, and ammonium chloride, forming a eutectic mixture -- the phase transitions involved (we now know) will stabilize at a certain temperature, provided you have enough of each.

This is called a "frigorific mixture". That was the coldest well defined temperature that could be achieved at the time.

I'd assume so, but be hopeful a jury would acquit (though we'll see what happens to Rittenhouse for defending himself against child rapist and terrorist)

Wrong tactic. There will be cameras, but fortunately the perp will have his back to you. This allows you to simply apply a simple RNC for incapacitation in nine seconds, or apply the figure four and put the perp to sleep in a few seconds as the latter is a blood choke.

Looks better on camera because it appears that you are simply pulling the low-life of the victim. I would recommend hold a quarter minute longer that necessary so that and you and the vic can quickly get off at the next stop regardless where the next stop is.

322 The water/salt phase diagram has nothing to do with the testing temperature. To really simplify things, you don't test at just the temperature where the material will be used, you test at a bunch of other temperatures too, to more accurately determine the strength and fracture properties of the material in general. That information is then what makes determining your factors of safety and engineering envelopes (acceptable stress levels, etc.) possible. I can't believe any actual metallurgist would have the nerve to say something so catastrophically stupid. It's almost tantamount to saying "steel is steel, it's just iron and carbon, whatever".

324 If you want the proof of the divinity of Jesus, consider this logically speaking for a moment.

A homeless guy, with no wealth, no clout, no stature, hated by nearly all people of His time, publicly spoke for roughly 3.5 years and then died a criminal's death.

And of all people who ever wrote, spoke or led, the entire world built the entire timeline of history around His birth and death. His reluctant remarks shaped the entire history of human understanding and events and thousands of years later, people will offer their livelihood, give all credit for their provisions and give their very lives in profession of His name and teachings.

If He was a broke, homeless carpenter, how does that happen? It defies explanation by any rational thought. Of all the humans that have ever thought, acted or spoken, how was this insignificant person by all human standards, able to radically transform the world?

I recently listened to a lecture about the current state of the electric power industry. Apparently the Federal Government is now pressuring the various organizations in charge of electric reliability to consider wind and solar to be "firm power" if they have four hours of (enormously expensive) battery backup.

You'd think that saying that four hours of backup made solar power "reliable" would establish you as certifiable, considering that whole day/night thing, but that is now official Federal policy.

For most of my professional career, if possible I would commute by bicycle. One gig was 26 miles door to door.
In the CTX area, it is possible to ride every day of the year. When ice and snow hit, the office was closed. Average distance was around 14 miles. Nearest job was walking distance. Fortunately most class A buildings have a gym a/o showers, so that wasn't a problem. The time difference between driving and cycling was longer ride on a bicycle in the morning yet shorter in the evening because traffic is so bad.

Now, start throwing in various alloying elements in that Fe-C mix, and things start to get really complicated.

What is fascinating it the sold-state phase transitions. There are different solid phases that exist at different temperatures.

See austenite, for example, a high temperature solid phase of iron. It is not magnetic. Now, throw in some chromium and nickel, which makes what is known as stainless steel, and you make the austenite phase stable at room temperature. Austenitic stainless steels.

I've learned just a little bit of this shit from my welding adventures over the years.

And be sure to keep the distinction between "eutectic" and "eutectoid" clear when shouting.

Former has to do with sold-liquid phase transitions of mixtures, and the latter is the solid-state phase transitions.

"Pearlite" is the eutectoid mixture of iron-carbon. I think. You've got ferrite, pearlite, cementite. Then you add in ledeburite when the carbon content gets high enough. But after that, at room temperature, you've moved from "steel" into the "cast iron" phase.

You're free to wander about all areas of the TxMoMeet as you please, and partake of any, all or none of the activities which may be occurring at any given time.

Some folks never really leave the carport, with it's resplendent offerings of food and drink. And after the guns are safely cased for the day, a vast supply of every kind of drink. Others, wander between rifle and pistol ranges, and others still, drift over to the well-kept stables to enjoy the presence of some truly magnificent horses. Lots to do at the TxMoMeet, free-form, take it as you please.

What's not free to do is to set up one's own storefront, and to start to hawk one's wares, so to speak. Not without the prior permission of Rancher Bob, his bride the Cow Horse Queen, or Ben Had.

433 the Uniparty which is ramming this down our throats knows full well it can't be done and when pushed as far as it can go it will collapse the electrical grid.

Because destroying the electrical grid is fully consistent with all of their other operations towards their depopulation efforts.

There is a quiet assumption among several Pacific Northwest electric utility types that this will go on until California suffers a catastrophic blackout, due to California's reliance on local unreliable resources coupled with a dependence on importing reliable power over long transmission lines (which can fail).

442 Regarding Baldwin and his suggestion for police staffing:

The Producers Guild recently finished negotiations with the support staff union (IATSE). It was primarily focused on complaints by production support staff, writers, and other upper level gofers in Hollywood itself, but the union includes others, like armorers. And, while the negotiations were completed with respect to the Hollywood groups, they still have to vote to approve it. More importantly, negotiations are still being conducted for locals in regions in the U.S. and Canada outside of Hollywood.

Baldwin has the perfect chance to demonstrate how serious he is during those negotiations. While he may not have one of the big production companies, he is a producer, and can talk to his side. He has a perfect chance to put it in writing.

448 >> Then you hop over to your TTT diagram to get your metastable

Yep, I was just about to post that the Fe-C phase diagram is the stable phases -- what you get with slow temperature changes, where you let all the molecules fall into their lowest energy configurations -- annealing.

When you heat the Fe-C system up into the austenite temp ranges, but then you cool it rapidly, quenching, you lock things into various higher energy states they ain't got time to fall out out of. Martensite, etc.

That's how you harden carbon steel. It varies with the carbon content of course. And the, once quenched, you want to temper it, by raising the temperature, but not too much, and let things sort of smooth out. If you don't do that, you get something too brittle.

BTW, Austen, Marten, etc were Kraut metallurgists back in the day who were Big Fucking Deals who figured a lot of this shit out. They've named shit after them.

I doubt that any girl-power "metallurgists" are gonna have any phases and shit named after them.

Last happened in 1996, when the transmission lines from the Pacific Northwest failed on a hot summer's day.

I have the G29 and the G20C. I'm not really sure what the compensator really adds. My 1911s particularly the Colt Gold Cup in 10mm do much better (but no where near the same capacity)

Can you expand on "do much better"? I'm thinking about getting a 10mm and haven't decided between a Glock and a 1911. I'm interested in the opinion of someone who has experience with both.
I have Glocks in other calibers, and a 1911 in 45ACP, so I'm somewhat familiar with both.

Puget Sound Energy (if I am reading PSE correctly) has lots of excitement to deal with this time of year. I lived out East of Seattle for years. More than once I was my own PUD for days. It is amazing how many trees can come down at the same time. The real challenge was finding fuel - trips as far as Bellingham for fuel did happen when a really epic storm came through. Thankfully I had things set up so my gas furnace blower ran, the refrigerator, coffee pot, a few lights, and the TV (I used an antenna). The other helpful things was having a gas water heater and stove. It was interesting.

519 I'm heading to bed, but I want to put my two cents in to muddle the discussion as much as possible:

I shoot all .45 Glocks well. They fit me ergonomically. From the 21 down to the little 36, they are all fantastic shooters.

I shoot all 1911s okay, and some as well as the Glocks. I own a Springfield that I shoot adequately, and a buddy has a Kimber that I shoot as well as any Glock. Lots of variation in the different makes and models, though.

Short version: Buy the 1911 for passion. Buy the Glock for business.

Forget the G29, zero control. I keep it in the motorcycle because its Glock and small.

I think the G20 is the Go To War gun because it is easy to clean, disassemble and does what a pistol is supposed to do - lay down fire as you get your battle rifle.

The Kimber is a true PITA to take apart, clean and reassemble mostly because of the stiff spring and the long slide rod. It holds half as much ammunition, but is a dream on the range where you can reload and fire at your leisure. The 1911s are just heavier which means a lot in terms of control for follow up shots. You will make more ragged holes with the 1911s if that is your use case.

The Stainless Gold Cup and the dark Kimber eclipse are works of art. The Glock is a tool. I find my spouse will go to her Target Kimber far more often than the G20C.

I have the major calibers in Glock, the 10mm is the only one I would carry if I had to carry a Glock.

There are three different carry guns, one is this fantastic Taurus 9mm in Titanium that couldn't hit anyone across the room but is light, reliable and fits pretty much anywhere for 15+1. I have a Titanium revolver in 45LC which has a great psychological effect of the really large diameter barrel and the fact I have five rounds that don't need to have the brass policed if used in an emergency shoot-n-scoot scenario.

But my all time favorite is this no-name Grand Power P1 9mm pistol, holds enough rounds and has a rotating barrel when shooting so it absorbs recoil and feels like a .380. Every person who has fired it wants to keep it.

Under these circumstances, I certainly understand the difference between divorced under the laws of the secular state (read as government) and remaining married under the laws of your religion and, most importantly, your love for each other. The state doesn't create a romantic/family union between two people, it records it in a log book, and accords certain monetary benefits and liabilities to it.

Exactly. He pointed the gun at another person, and pulled the trigger. That makes it negligent homicide, at best. Now, for theatrical, or film-making purposes, that rule might get bent, but with some strong caveats, like the weapon used must be unloaded, or loaded only with non-firing dummy rounds, and that all parties to the exercise be satisfied that such is truly the case.

Sir William Chandler there was originally just "Roberts". But he inherited from some relative, of Austen surname, who demanded he hyphenate is name to Roberts-Austen in order to inherit said fortune.

So, but for that, the gamma phase of iron might be known as "robertsite".

I'd be suddenly gay

It's interesting. Look at how iron undergoes that solid-state phase transition from ferrite to austenite. The transition from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic does not occur abruptly. There used to be a supposed "beta" phase of iron above the Curie temperature. But that doesn't really exist.

This stuff is not trivial.

I watched the relevant video segment today, after listening to testimony, until I wore out the tape and I couldn't see where KR "racked" the weapon. The portion that was in question is about 2 seconds long and it shows KR on his back and the rolling up to a sitting position. It is easy to miss but his right hand goes to the right side of the receiver with index finger position straight along the receiver. at this point Gaige Grosskreutz came up out of a crouched position and lunged at him with the pistol pointed at KR. It was then and only then did KR raise his weapon at GG and the fire it. GG flat out lied on the stand today.

Very true. GG rendered everything he said moot the second he testified that he made an aggressive and offensive move with a loaded firearm towards KR. There is one and only reason to draw up a loaded pistol on a person and that is to shoot them. GG's whole testimony was a pant load. It should also be noted that he ran at break neck speed for two blocks and then injected himself into a wildly violent situation. Intent can be formed in an instant and he had two blocks to do so. GG should be counting his blessing he isn't on trial for 1st degree murder right now or dead. But he isn't, all he can do is lie. Or he could have stood down. Or ran away.

654 AOP, did you say that you have the Coof? I hope that you are doing okay. Good night, Horde, I am babbling, never a good sign, see you all tomorrow.

Pretty sure I had the Coof, back in January 2020. Got over it. So i don't want to mess up my hard-won immunity with the clot shot.

Yes, indeed. I've been remiss in the "newsletter" over the past few days. The "vaccines" are shit. They will fuck up natural immunity. If you take a ClotShot(tm), and then get the Coof (which is increasingly likely), your immune response is fucked. OAS. You don't generate the N-antibodies.

If you take the ClotShot *after* natural infection, you get messed up, but not as much. You still have some N-response, but not as much.

The ClotShots are poison, both figuratively and literally, as Brandon would say.

Latest data of out the UK shows the negative efficacy of the ClotShots continues increasing apace.

After 204 days, the ClotShot efficacy become negative -- that is, you're more likely to get infected than the unvaxxed.

662 This is proof there is God and that God has a wicked sense of humor. This kind adds to the meaning of what it means to be a butt boy. Or girl.

663 if the clot shots actually w*rked, they couldn't need mandates and threats...

that they do tells any sane person everything they need to know.

664 cycling an AR by hand: given a loaded, properly inserted mag, and unobstructed chamber and a firm grip on the pistol grip, one should be able to cycle a new round into place in mere seconds.

given sufficient practice, of course...

669 Night all. I've been up late drinking reading the OT and sorting my in-laws wheat pennies to relax. Yep, I was coin collector nerd as a kid. Funny thing is so was my BIL.

He can't make here due to Parkinson's, but I'm gonna let him know what's here. They aren't worth anything much but maybe he and I I can fill a few blank spots in our Lincoln penny albums from childhood. LOL

And the real mystery in these coins...French 25 centimes were made w/ holes in the center. But the 1918 ones have 4 holes punched around the outside also. WTF, did that have something to do w/ WW I and certain territories occupied?

670 Ahmmm no ways tahred of thinking of the Hildebeest as an anal fistula. If the fistula fits Hillary should wear it.

But when I pull out of Hillary' "Southern Shtick" I tend to think of her as pustulent pimple on the posterior of progress.
