Florida's Rates of Both Covid Infection and Covid Deaths Falls to Lowest Levels In Country, Leaving Media Stumped: Have We Finally Found a Covid Story For Which DeSantis Is Not to Blame?

Before getting to that, note that Callifornia's fall in covid infection has halted. That is, the rate has stopped falling and has plateaued... and threatens to increase again.

Strange the left and NeverTrump (but I repeat myself) never blame bad covid outcomes in blue states on blue state policies.

The state seems to have reached what Ghaly called a plateau after its steady decline in cases and hospitalizations since the summer surge of the delta variant of the virus.
Models show coronavirus hospitalizations increasing slightly over the next month, from about 3,800 in hospitals now to about 4,460 by Thanksgiving.
The models forecast a gradual drop in intensive care patients but with a troubling upward curve starting in about two weeks. Deaths are expected to continue their inexorable climb, adding nearly 3,000 to reach a pandemic total of 74,000 by Thanksgiving week.
The rate at which each infected person spreads the disease, known as the R-effective, remains below 1 statewide but had been creeping up since mid-September until another recent dip. Anything below 1 means the number of infected persons will decrease.
That pattern is mirrored in most regions of the state, but the rate in the Greater Sacramento area has edged back above 1, meaning the virus will start to spread.

No articles blaming Newsom for this. The leftist/NeverTrump assumption (but I repeat myself anew) is that everything the left does is good and perfect and based on "The Science (TM)," so if covid spreads in a blue state or blue city, why, that's just the natural ebb and flow of an endemic disease that will always be with us now.

How strange that red states are never subject to the natural ebbs and flows of an endemic disease! No, for red states, every single increase in covid transmission is due to the the Death-Loving Governor, and every single fall in covid transmission is...

...well, that's just natural epidemiological oscillations at work. DeSantis won't be blamed for that.

Florida now has the lowest covid case rate and death rate in the country, and the leftwing press -- and leftwing NeverTrump covid authoritarians -- suddenly don't want to talk about Florida very much.

This sounds like a John Sexton or Karen Townsend story to me. Say, AllahPundit, will you be a pet and send it their way?

As Florida now ranks lowest in the continental U.S. in terms of COVID-19 rates per capita, we are proud to have stood firm in protecting liberty throughout the pandemic," Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez said in a statement. Governor DeSantis' approach was guided by science, data, and pragmatism, not fear and alarmist narratives."
In August, when the delta variant was spreading throughout the country, Florida had among the highest new cases in the nation, a seven-day moving average of more than 21,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That figure has steadily dropped ever since.

Blue states, like those in New England, saw covid cases "surge" due to the delta variant. Florida got a surge earlier, in August. New England got a surge later, in October.

The Florida surge was blamed on DeSantis. The New England surge was blamed on... covid.

Covid's just weird! Who can figure it out!

The media, like Salon Hot 25 "Conservative" blogger AllahPundit, didn't want to talk about the spikes in New England covid rates very much.

DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw said when COVID cases were high she was inundated with media requests. But now that case and death rates are low, coverage has conspicuously fizzled out.

"They were writing non-stop negative stories about COVID in Florida and implying that it was the governor’s fault," Pushaw told Fox News. "But now that we have the lowest infection rate in the entire country, those same media outlets are silent. So, you would think, if it was his fault at the peak, why isn’t his credit right now?
"It just hows they’re using this for their own political ends, their own ends, they’re not even being consistent with it," Pushaw said.

Fox News notes that despite Newsom taking a very draconian stance on covid, and imposing nonstop lockdowns (except for his rich Hollywood donors, I mean!), free Florida and unfree California have similar covid outcomes.

Suggesting that Covid Authoritarianism is not, in fact, supported by The Science (TM).

Nor does "social distancing." Nor do masks. Nor, after a couple of months, do vaccines.

Whatever the hypotheses and models may have said, the data are pretty clear (if quite corrupt): there is no correlation between infection rate (defined as test positivity), hospitalization or mortality and any of the non-drug interventions and the drug interventions (in terms of the vaccines) have their own data set that isn't exactly promising at +4-6 months.

Notice that the monoclonal antibody story is not being talked about anywhere either. DeSantis' Press Secretary might want to point that out. That not only are case rates low, but they also have low death rates through successful treatments with monoclonal antibodies.

I would guess the majority of the people in the country has no idea that there are numerous successful treatments for SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 available (HCQ, Ivermectin, monoclonal antibodies). And are likely equally unaware that the "vaccines" do not prevent infection or spread of the virus/disease. Not to mention that people *still* do not realize that masks are useless against virus spread, but are dangerous for everyone regarding bacteria spread.

73 There will still be lots of problems and few takers of moving stuff thru Florida.

First off, a lot of receivers aren't concerned about stuff sitting in Cali. That's because the price of their goods is going up and they can sell whatever they get when they get it. That's if they're large enough to absorb the wait.

Second is the stuff that going to the eastern seaboard is already routing to the eastern seaboard. Adding the western flow in may cause some back log plus there will be added costs for the extra distance and then longer distance to the receiving company which may be like Utah or Colorado which is closer to Cali.

This could all be fixed with a pen by newsom if a temporary suspension of the regulations was made along with guarantees to the bankers lending truckers money for trucks that they will be able to get their full amount paid off by not having a flat and final deadline so soon. Especially since there are no trucks or infrastructure to keep them juiced ready to go. They should've made the deadline more flexible and longer in the future. But that's what happens when those who believe think they can make stuff happen just because.

It is possible that a vax-resistant (really avoidant) strain would develop and become dominant naturally, absent the vaccine. It is just not hugely likely. If a vax-avoidant strain is becoming dominant (time will tell), it stands to reason that evolutionary pressure of the vaxxed contributed to its dominance. The unvaxxed would not present evolutionary pressure to select it so absent some other pressure that is universal, you can lay that one at the feet of vaccinated, not the wreckers.

I go the opposite direction of most bad traffic. But for people on the other side it's hell. Made worse because they are doing a huge amount of road work around I-16 to change up the on/off ramps. This is driving people crazier than normal. And I have gotten into a few really slow jams as I get to the connectors.

High enough ones have big orange balls on the wires. I bet they generate vortices and oscillate in high wind. Also around heli pads, they have the orange balls on overhead wires. But everywhere else I imagine it's really difficult for a pilot to see them.

Well, the reason for flu and common cold are two separate things.

-flu has a virus which dips into the animal population to constantly swap out variants. So you have like an AR-15 where you are constantly swapping out the caliber and mods and so forth. You makje a vaccine for one combination and another is the big one for the year.

-common cold I always understood to be because there are thousands of viruses all lumped in together under 'common cold'.

Eh, different viruses are different. Smallpox and polio vaccines have had higher efficacy rates than flu vaccine. I'll even stipulate that against COVID ClassicTM, the shots probably did have 95% efficacy. But COVID mutated faster than we probably thought, probably because a lot more people have had it more quickly than we thought possible (probably like 7-10X the reported case numbers). That means more chances to mutate.

Just saying. But having said that, IDGAF if it's 100% effective, adds 10 years to your life, whitens your teeth and gives you two extra inches. I don't need it so I'm not taking it.

One thing that still isn't clear - is the declining effectiveness of the clot shots just a progression of time, or is it because they virus is moving further and further away from the original formulation.

In other countries they are doubling down on "boosters" which says it is the former, but those boosters don't seem to be working which says the latter.

An excellent question - my semi-educated guess is that it's a little of both, with one or the other factor possibly contributing to declining efficacy on a patient-to-patient basis. Eg, maybe it's mostly progression of time in older patients who may have weaker immune systems, and mostly virus mutations in younger people who have stronger immune systems but are more likely to be out and about and come into contact with new variants.

It would be cool if we as a society still cared enough about science to study this before making policy. Or you know, if we just didn't force people into medical interventions.

I was vaccinated against smallpox as a child, at school. We all were.I also remember taking the oral Polio vaccine at school. They lined us all up, and we took little cups of the vaccine and drank it.
Later had the polio vaccine injection.

I think I recall reading that for every one million children vaccinated with the weakened live polio virus, 5-10 children actually came down with Polio.

Today, if you look at the VAERS data, at least 17K people have "died" from the various vaccines; Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines or the Jansen mDNA vaccine.
People that have researched this esimate that his is 1-10% of the actual numbers, and that perhaps 500k-600k have actually died from the Covid19 vaccines.
Like my nephew. 38 years old and got the first Pfizer shot last July. 5 days later he was dead of "coronary" issues. He did not make it into the VAERS database.

If the clot shots were 95% effective or whatever they claim, irrespective of what the unjabbed are doing, we'd see cases drop to almost nothing, and drop the most and fastest in places with the most clot shots given. That is not what the data says is happening.

The modern cargo ships are capable of reaching much higher speeds, but the sweet spot for long range fuel economy is 5-7 knots. Unlike the clippers, they can speed up to avoid storms or bad weather.

The VA GOP has always had a shitty organization in spite of the votes they used to turn out. The successful candidates in VA have always had their own GOTV operation and not relied on the state party. Trump, Cuccinelli, and Gillispie relied on the state party.
