otterbraun.jpg
from @otterbraun

Contemplative otter.

Kingfisher catching the feesh. They should call him BOSSfisher!

Cat tells a human that outweighs him by 160 pounds "Nah, you move, pallie."

Dog is an orderly pedestrian.

Capitalism vs. communism.

Awkward puppy.

Inman's slowing down to do some filming but here's an older one, puppy vs. baby goat.

Matadork.

Some days the target targets you.

What's the rule on this one?

Page 14 of the FDA briefing document on the vaxxine injection they're going to put into children.

"To provide a vaccine with an improved stability profile, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for use in children 5-11 years of age uses tromethamine (Tris) buffer instead of the phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) as used in the previous formulation and excludes sodium chloride and potassium chloride."

41 stinging bugs:

I was out with my dogs behind my house and one of them started going to town on some pile of dirt. Huh, weird. Next thing I know it feels like I'm being shot through by some silent sniper. I look down and one dog is biting at the yellow jackets she disturbed while the slow one is looking up at me with a confused look covered in yellow jackets. They were all over us drawing blood. I panicked picked up the dogs, slow dog weighed about 75lbs mind you, and ran up the deck and into the house with them. Dumb move.

Apparently, yellow jackets can sting you then fly off and sting other people. So they're stinging my wife now. I start slapping the crap out of myself. I slap my glasses off, I'm now blind. I want to slap them off the dogs and my wife too but don't want to hurt them.

So I grab a wrapped up loaf of wonder bread and start beating my wife and dogs with it but I can't see the bugs so I'm blindly wailing on anyone. The slow dog looked up at me with a "this isn't normal right?" look. I killed the last of the yellow jackets and gave everyone benadryl per Dr./vet orders. Not my best day.

Yikes! Yellow jackets suck bigtime. Yes, they'll follow you and can sting you as many times as they feel like. Pieces of shit. Shawn Wood's youtube channel recently did a few specials on how to get rid of their nests using a variety of methods.

I remember when my parents were building their home in the hills in 1968, and the day they broke ground, the poor fuck in the Caterpillar dug up an enormous nest, and was stung all to fuck as everybody scattered. Ambulance came and took him away. I was slightly traumatized since I watched it all go from party to AAAHHEEEHHH!! Not an auspicious start, and indeed, the house was jinxed from that moment.

Posted by: pep at October 27, 2021 06:47 PM (ZsR3z)

78 If you have a GE oven, the error code F2 on the oven means that the temperature sensor has detected a temperature in excess of the preset threshold. The cause could be a sensor malfunction. However, that's unlikely because there are several GE oven error codes, and a bad sensor should trigger an F3 error code, not F2. Nevertheless, you should test the sensor anyway. If it checks out, you're probably going to have to replace the control panel because it's likely fried.

There was a guy at a fair or something back when I was a kid, who had a little capuchin monkey and you could shake its hand for a quarter. But what that really meant was, he'd hold your hand and the monkey's in his hand, so you were basically shaking the dude's hand for a quarter and he was only incidentally holding the monkey's hand in the same hand as yours. I remember feeling like it was a lousy deal at the time, but now? If I had a monkey, I'd do the same thing. I wouldn't trust some kid to shake my monkey's hand; kid could just grab it and run off, or hurt it, or get hurt by it, which is a hell of a liability for a quarter a shake, and if I had a capuchin monkey, I wouldn't be risking it for quarter handshakes at the fair from some shady kid because who knows what could happen to the poor monkey.

I guess what I'm saying here is that I want a capuchin monkey, and I'm not sharing.

I've got to buy new appliances for the home soon, including double ovens, wall microwave (what a fucking ripoff) and cooktop. I'll never buy another GE product as long as I live. The current stuff hit 20 years old, and they don't make a single part for any of it. Nope, changed them just enough apparently. So the handles on the cooktop all freeze up. The lights for the oven readout apparently go bad (dark), and the board for that alone is $350. Or was. My 2 refrigerators needed to have their water lines replaced every other year, because they were designed to crack and rot from the heat. Ridiculous. Not the GE I grew up with. Wish I still had my 80's washer and dryer.

The chinese slave-laborers have No Idea what they're building when they make 99% of the items we Western Fools buy from them.

Lo and behold, they actually showed up, drank themselves silly and had a great time. One of my childhood memories that really sticks out. They were both great guys.

Coleman later went to Chicago and on to greater things, obviously.

258 To be sure if electrolytic capacitors are bulging or leaking they are undoubtedly defective, but they first or usually fail without any visual clues. Think of them sort of like a rechargeable battery. If they are more than ten years or so, it wouldn't be a bad plan to replace them.

Capacitors are inexpensive, but when the power supply fails, or is passing excessive voltage or current, this can damage not so inexpensive components, proprietary or now unobtanium parts.

Posted by: Moron Robbie

TRIS is not a new chemical. It's been used (among a lot of other similar chemicals) as a biological buffer for at least 40 years. A company I used to work for made TRIS for this application back in the 1980's.
I use it all the time for a different application. It's pretty harmless and non-toxic.
The problem is the mRNA, and it always was (and is).

If I witnessed someone performing an unkind and actually rather brutal and protracted act against a journalist in public, I wouldn't go out and get some popcorn, but if I had popcorn, I would probably continue eating it while watching. Popcorn's not free, and anyway, it's a local story. Doesn't affect me.

419 We'll find out if our efforts were successful in taking the local Board of Education seats up for election next week (3 seats out of 9). It's been a bitter campaign for the town. The whole board is left-wing democrat.

So even if our candidates win, they'll be a minority on the board. To change things, the momentum needs to be sustained and we'll need to win more seats next year.

And then the new board majority would need to oust the current superintendent (who is in contract and works to protect the current board as much as possible), and then appoint someone else who is willing to execute the new priorities of the new board.

Then you need to start booting the left-wing stormtroopers in the schools (that are protected by the unions), and hire new ones.

This is why the right ends up failing so often in these endeavors. It's a full-time job.

6/ In this case, CAPT Marc Ratkus, who is CO of Center for Information Warfare Training & CDR Schley's boss, provided a standard denial memo to CDR Schley and instructed her to use it for all requests at her command. It even had his letterhead and signature on it.
7/ In the denial endorsements all of her Sailors received, the letterhead and signature had been changed to make it appear that she was making the recommendation and he was merely concurring. But we know that she didn't concur, and Schley admits it.
8/ CDR Schley knows she is violating policy & in fact complained to colleagues about it. I've obtained copies of TWO sworn affidavits from Sailors who heard CDR Schley claim she didn't want to issue blanket denial of all religious exemption requests, but was forced by CPT Ratkus.

Based on some exchanges in the courtroom today, he suspects that the Defense attorneys have already given up on the idea of getting a fair trial at this stage, and are concentrating on preserving the record so that they have a strong case on appeal. Not really a surprise.

482 If I take a Miata and put a Fiat engine in it and add Fiat badges (and reliability), I no longer have a Miata, no matter what the car was once based on.

493 I don't know what terminology to use, but it would be very helpful if "left" and "right" and "Democrat" and " Republican" could go away. It takes a long, long time for many people to get past the names and phrases they are used to and the political actors know that. Here in AZ there are still "Dem" sheriffs in the southern border counties who are really old school conservatives in thought and behaviors. This goes all the way back to post Civil War where the Republican carpetbaggers arrived from the North and took over, where the locals were Southern and Democrats. People often vote based on positions of 100 years ago and don't assimilate the changes. Sometimes it leads to weird things like "hippies" aligning with big corporations.

per Bob Woodward, Powell was a vintage Volvo guy. Seriously. He wrote about it in "The Commanders," which is the only Woodward book I ever read.

Spoiler: the book sucked.

499 ..What's with the Navy, can any Navy types explain it? they have that Fat Arnold (Laurence? I forget) scandal where the top brass were giving away classified intel on ship movements for hookers. What's going on, for heaven's sake? Posted by: artemis at October 27, 2021 08:42 PM (AwPyG)

While everyone likes to joke about the USAF and it's mess halls n' golf courses, there is NO snobbery at the level of USN Flag Rank snobbery. I'm not going to try to explain it, but growing up a USN brat and doing one enlisted hitch in the USAF, the differences were obvious.

Navy Admirals consider themselves Next to God one and all, where the Army only occasionally produces a MacArthur or such. Such Admirals believe at their core that their rightful place is advising the President and other positions of Highest Influence. Watch media from WWII, and you'll even see that the Admirals were treated more deferentially than the land-based Generals. I'm not going to try to explain it or damn sure not justify it. But I'll report on it as I've seen it over the years.

yeah beggars day was the very first song I ever learned from them. I remember it like yesterday. We were pretty young, and a friend of mine had cousins visiting from virginia like they did every summer. We were in the mall, and the album just came out so while looking for something new my friend grabbed it. I heard beggars day and was like ooookay, we gotta play that one. Some good tunes on that album.
