Biden Polling Slips as America Braces for Most Expensive Thanksgiving Dinner In History

The public has lost confidence in Biden to lead the economy or to even lead his supposed "signature" issue of "ending" the pandemic.

Why it matters: It's Democrats and independents driving the declining economic confidence, from 52% of all U.S. adults at the start of his presidency to 44% now. Their softening faith could hinder Biden's ability to lead and hurt Democrats' position heading into the 2022 midterms.

...

What they're saying: Biden's messaging is "focused on the wrong problem" from a confidence-building perspective, said Cliff Young, president of Ipsos U.S. Public Affairs.

"The problem is not the unvaccinated. The problem is convincing those who are vaccinated that they have the tools to navigate a COVID world ... [and reassuring] those who’ve been vaccinated that they can live a normal life again."

"People are confused," Young said. "There's no sense of what the endgame is."

By the numbers: 71% of Democrats said they're confident that the Biden administration can ensure the economy recovers quickly after the COVID-19 pandemic -- but that's down from 86% in late January just after Biden's inauguration.

Independents' confidence on that measure has dropped to 42% from 51%.

Republican support is now at 18%, virtually unchanged from 17% in January.

Just 21% have any confidence Biden can get vaccine skeptics to take the shot -- and just 5% say they're "very confident."

Even the New York Times admits that the wave of inflation Biden has unleashed will make this the most expensive Thanksgiving in American history:

mostexpensivethanksgivinginhistory.jpg

Even homewrecking slattern Mika Brzezinski is forced to report on the grim tidings:

'

This local news report admits the historically inflated prices for food -- but then, incredibly, suggests that the "cost of gluttony " will be higher this year.

The problem is with gluttonous Americans eating too much!

Look at that guy -- another fat leftwinger.

This is the guy commenting on other people's "gluttony"?

Via John Sexton at Hot Air, the bond markets are signalling that investors expect inflation to not be as "transitory" as The Regime claims.

Today, the NY Times notes that a critical metric called the break even point, an estimate of what investors in the bond market think inflation will be going forward, jumped up to about 3 percent for the first time in more than a decade last Friday.

A key measure of the bond market's expectations for inflation over the next five years -- known as a break even -- rose to a new high Friday, briefly topping 3 percent. That meant investors expected inflation to average about 3 percent a year for the next five years, far higher than any time in the decade before the pandemic hit. Measures of inflation expectations over longer periods, such as over the next 10 years, also rose to multiyear highs…

While the Fed chair, Jerome H. Powell, and other central bank officials have spent months saying higher inflation was a "transitory" result of pandemic-driven supply chain problems, there has lately been good reason to believe that price rises could be a more lasting concern...

Goldman Sachs disagrees, claiming that as soon as Pete Bootyjudge settles in from his long secret vacation and unsnarls the shipping and transportation crisis, inflation will fall back to a more bearable 2% rate by next year.

Take that claim from the Democrat-aligned firm as you will.

It isn't because they're imbeciles, it's because they're still trying to move the ball. Telling the Dread Unvaxxed "fuck you, you retard, you stupid, good-for-nothing, gramma-killing, antisocial asshole, get the shot or die" is not a good sales strategy. Framing it as "information to reduce hesitancy among people with concerns" is much gentler. They're not to the stage of gun battles over the vaccine yet.

62 With all this measuring of prices and such - the real measure is hard to quantify. How many folks are willing to tell family and friends - "No, you're fucking stupid, that's not how it works".

That's the measure of how this social change will go. So far - one side seems willing. And there is no way to quantify "we lost, but we were polite about it".

I can barely afford hamburger and I can't remember when I bought a roast last. Or a steak. Our local grocery store had a deal on pork steaks for 1.99 a pound, normally 3.59 a pound. I bought the limit. Two. I can get 4 meals out of those 2 packages.

100 I would be very careful reading too much into the bond market. The Fed is intervening big time and has been for a decade. We don't even notice any more what we used to call "Quantitative Easing" because it was so unusual. As long as the Fed is printing money and buying bonds, which it still is, then the interest rate on government securities is artificially low because the Fed's buying is shifting market demand, boosting bond prices. If the Fed were to quit buying Treasuries today, their prices would collapse and interest rates would immediately go a lot higher. Assuming the Fed isn't buying the inflation-protected securities, then the spread would be a lot bigger than 3 percent. How much bigger is anybody's guess, but it would probably be a lot closer to the true inflation that we see every day.

I'd bet ten thousand dollars that's the main driver, too, and the entire reason for the continued plague.

People who are scared of it are testing themselves at the first sniffle. It doesn't matter if it's the equivalent of a sinus infection. They have Covid-19, and it's sort of a fulfilling thing to finally get it.

People who aren't worried about it blow their nose and keep on going, same way they did in 2019.

But really, is there any information or data showing that things are different now that we have the vaccine?

The first thing they could do is haul Fauci off in chains and behead him. Then they announce the pandemic is over, the jabs are voluntary, and all other restrictions are lifted. There will still be cases, but current treatments can handle it. A good chunk of the broken will suddenly find themselves free to live again.

168 Or, if you boil the entire package of hot dogs or more, you've got delicious hot dog soup! Just throw in some macaroni. That macaroni angel your kid made for you last Christmas will work fine, and the white glue sticking it to the craft paper will help thicken it. And if you've got some leftover packets of ketchup from McD's, it's like minestrone!

174 With the amount of money my family and I have spent on this holiday, the cost of the meal is going to be a rounding error. I don't care what it costs, it's happening. For the first time in a goodly while, it's going to be (almost) *everyone* in one place. I am more thankful for that than for the money to help pay for it all. This is rare, and it is working out this year. Thanksgiving is one of two major annual holidays in Casa de Mannix (Passover is the other) and it's a very big deal for my family.

I am still unhappy that everything is expensive and difficult for no reason other than evil stupidity, though.

Here's how that convo goes.

It starts off with a anecdotal case about somebody who wasn't vaccinated getting severely sick from the Wu Flu (or passing away), followed by "tsk, tsk, tsk", and ending up with lamentations that "people are stupid" and people "don't believe in science" anymore. I recently sat in on one of those yarns and it took all my willpower not to say anything snarky back...

I seriously don't know what to do about it. Doesn't help (or does it?) that I'm not the combative type. Maybe the effort should be spared on people on the fence about this, show them the various data and let them make up their own minds without the chiding(s).

If the prime rate goes much above 0%, the wheels start falling off the Federal government. If we get to "official" interest rates above 2-3%, let alone 13-15% like in the 70s and 80s, the government can't afford to pay the interest on the debt unless they use every single dollar coming in from taxes.

276 By the numbers: 71% of Democrats said they're confident that the Biden administration can ensure the economy recovers quickly after the COVID-19 pandemic

Reality. There is no pandemic. If what began in 2020 was a pandemic, then it has technically been over since June of 2020. Given the animal reservoirs, at best its endemic, and there are occasional spot epidemics though no one can actually say because we don't keep good records or even test all that well.

In light of the fact that the "Pandemic" (likely now a marketing brand name, like "Black Lives Matter") is being used to put conditions on an ill-defined "economic recovery", the brand name "Pandemic" will continue to flourish even while we are eating tree-bark and insects and wishing we had it as good as the Venezuelans.

If Republicans start winning elections, does the "its hopeless because of Dominion!!!" posts stop?

The whole Dominion meme was a fever dream of people like Lin Wood and Sydney Powell. Remember foreign servers and al the rest?

You'll notice not even Trump's legal team or Giuliani went forward with these claims in court regarding Dominion.

I think voter fraud is real and happened, but the Dominion excuse is just our mirror version of the Left claiming Putin "hacked" the election for Trump.

I was on the Dominion "rigged" wagon but it was a complete dead end.

Manufacturing on another continent doesn't work if wages a bit lower, they have to be rock bottom. The costs of quality control, shipping, travel back and forth, foreign exchange, etc. are decidedly non-trivial. China is increasingly too expensive, which is why the "little tigers" keep gaining market share.

The problem now isn't so much labor costs (they still have the edge, but in high-cost transportation and energy environments, it's less meaningful) but that we've hollowed out our industrial base. There's an awful lot of shit we can't build anymore. Repatriation is extremely difficult, and the government doesn't exactly go out of its way to make it easier (NLRB, EPA, et. al.)...

Hmmph, just reading something. The FBI raided a local courthouse in Tennessee. Apparently it had something to do with a "vehicle title laundering" operation. That is, how to launder stolen cars by falsifying records.

Two court clerks were charged. Now, one of those clerks, a woman has been found dead, along with he live-in boyfriend (I assume that -- clerk and man were found dead in the clerk's home).

This being the FBI, I wonder if they were doing the operation and whacked the clerk themselves.

So you think Dominion wasn't involved? You can't get that level of precision in doing fraud in a massive operation unless you have either live information and a coordinating separately or they're already set up to report altered totals that you can then backfill(which they didn't entirely). Yes the last moment adjustments were sloppy and hugely noticeable but that was a relatively small proportion of total fraud.

438 The problem now isn't so much labor costs (they still have the edge, but in high-cost transportation and energy environments, it's less meaningful) but that we've hollowed out our industrial base. There's an awful lot of shit we can't build anymore. Repatriation is extremely difficult, and the government doesn't exactly go out of its way to make it easier (NLRB, EPA, et. al.)...

Its more of a challenge to support these stupid proposals than oppose them. I'm bored:

With all of the new windmills and solar arrays, America can retake the lead in Clean Industrialized New Age. Yes, solar doesn't work at night, and winds usually calm in parts of winter and summer.

This is part of the Grand Design! Instead of exploiting workers to toil at night, the factory can't run and everyone has a more humane day shift! When the winds idle, and factories can't operate then it forces the cruel and exploitive CEOs to grant the workers weeks off from work so they can enjoy their families and their hobbies.

With taxing profits over a billion, it nudges companies into doing the right thing by shafting the pension and insurance funds and returning it to the rightful owners bonuses.

The audit here in AZ showed irregularities on things like who was sent a mail in ballot, but nothing on the level that the machines didn't accurately count ballots.

A few minutes later he arrives back in camp with the biggest damn fox squirrel I'd ever seen. Old as hell, hung like I would like to be. I asked him why he shot so much and he said it took multiple shots to bring him down. As I dressed the old stud out, I noticed he had 2 or 3 bullets still lodged in him. The old rodent was so tough he stopped high velocity 22 bullets! The only way we had to cook him was the grill. I suggested he was gonna be too damn tough but my Son insisted. I grilled him. I swear, you could not gnaw a bite of meat off that squirrel. Like trying to take a bite out of a radial. We had to toss him. He was still laying where we left him 3 days later, as the crows had given up.

529 Not only are meat prices high, but there is little selection. Also, sometimes the cut seems bizarre, maybe to justify the jacked up price. Boneless pork cutlets all of sudden are twice as thick as usual. Pkg that used to cost maybe $6.00 for 3 now costs $10. They are more difficult to cook and are still only one serving so instead of $2.00 each, now $3.33. I know, I know, no math.
