Spacely Sprockets Cafe

Dog enjoying some Kaboom.

Hootenany.

Doggie dance party.

Lazy seagull.

Cat annoys toddler.

Cat annoys dog.

Cat is a pidgeon.

Otters vs. Oran-utan.

This dog wanted to sit in the comfy padded office chair, not the hard plastic chair. So he worked out how to do that.

It sure looks to me like a civilian had to step in here to stop yet another brazen daylight robber.

43 Got a question for someone who knows metals/wire. I've gotten wire for my rosaries from both Our Lady's Rosary Makers (unbranded hanks, loop bundles tied twice) and Amazon, (Benecreat, on a spool). Both are 20 gauge aluminum, but the Benecreat is much more malleable.

How come? And is the more malleable one more likely to suffer damage? (Rosaries don't get a lot of physical abuse, sure, but still ... )

Frasier had a new financial analyst working at KACL and she asks while doing an intro to her show, "... Plus, are pharmaceutical stocks still worth prescribing?" If she suggested, "Yes," then she and her listeners would be rolling in dough today!

And in Married With Children in an Atlanta Olympics themed show, Roy Jones Jr., Larry Brown, and Bo Jackson all mistake the post-Rhoades mannish Marcy for Bruce Jenner in the 1996 "Torch Song Duet".

The ensuing itching and inflammation will keep you out of the leaf litter doing...whatever, for a long time.

112 Ann Wilson,

I have broken so many cheaply manufactured rosaries that I have lost count.

I bought a "Combat Rosary." Originally commissioned by the U.S. Army for WWI, it is made out of gun metal. Pope Pius (?) issued an indulgence. If any Catholic soldier died in battle in possession of the rosary, he would be spared Hell. So, there were so many left over from WWI that they were issued to Catholic soldiers in WWII.

Clearly I don't have one of those. But the one I have is quite durable. Look it up. Gun metal. I like that.

I don't remember not liking it. When I was a kid I was Cereal Disposal Unit # 243. It was one of my favorite things. I was also a real picky eater, still am in a lot of ways, so the conventional wisdom with me was "eh, just give him cereal" whenever I got babysat by any of the aunts or grandmothers. Mom used to always bring home different cereals just to see what I liked. There were the old standbys, and then there were the ones on rotation. I remember kaboom. Didn't have it often, but I don't remember hating it. Then again, I don't remember hating any cereal, except maybe shredded wheat and puffed rice. I liked captain crunch, but it was a bitch waiting for it to soften up in the milk.

Put a 'biscuit' or two in a bowl. Fill the bowl with water and smush the biscuit with your hand. Keeping your hand on the biscuit, pour out the water.

Then pour in milk and enjoy. Trust me - it's a different experience than just pouring milk in the bowl.

My favorite was one made completely of a paracord like material from the early '50s given to my Dad in Korea. I had it after him and passed it on to my youngest when he was deployed.

The cord was thinner than the paracord used today so the 'beads' were not as big as the ones currently being made. I loved that Rosary.

The only local team I like is the Union. They're usually middle of the pack, but it's been nice to see them playing well the last few seasons.

The Fountainhead is long-winded, too, but it's much better than Atlas Shrugged.

My mom's theory is this: both books have essentially the same theme and message. But the literary critic types of the time totally missed the point on Fountainhead. I don't know; I was a long, far way from being born yet, but that's what she says.

So she thinks that everyone in her professional milieu was too fucking dull-witted to get it, and she came back with Atlas Shrugged to beat these bien-pensant Commies on the skull with the blunt end of the premise until it stuck.

Bogota's problem (as a leader of thought and as a leader of the country) is that they are afraid of global warming worse than just about anything.

It is at the altitude of Boulder Colorado, when it gets to 75 degrees F they all wilt and complain, and it has torrential rains twice a year that required building drainage canals. And their fear is that the sea level will raise two inches, and it will get warmer and less wet.

At least they have Covid

377 Even if you skip the speeches and the main characters, the studies of the evil characters and the mid level characters - Cheryl Taggert, Ed Willers, the story of the fall of the 20th Century Motors and the descriptions of the train tunnel disaster are worth reading. At least to me she had a style I can visualize just like watching a movie - often movies don't do this for me.

Posted by: Oldcat at October 26, 2021 07:14 PM (eoQWY)

She actually worked in Hollywood when she first came to the U.S., so that may be why she had a good visual flare when it came to those evil characters. I agree, their scenes are the best part of the book. Any attempt to film Atlas Shrugged should focus on that stuff - the collapsing world - and give up on the lofty philosophical speeches. It is odd to see how events today are replaying her scenario; the bottlenecks of cargo containers is like the inability to get train cars to the midwest for the big wheat harvest in the book.

431 Berserker - you build customs or mod existing scooters? I'm seriously looking at a Soft tail custom to do a retrofit with a +8 springer front end and a bigger motor. I'm always looking for people who have that kind of knowledge.

Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at October 26, 2021 07:49 PM (l1zez)

Hmmm. Well, I will tell you this right out. There are very few springer front ends I trust. Most of them scare me, because you just don't know how good they are welded. I see a lot of springer front ends out there that I just can't see what the hell is holding them together. An 8" over front end is pretty damn long, and the force on the neck is amplified. There are custom front end builders out there who are very good, but pricey, but it is your ass.

On the other hand, if you go with a frame that has an upward stretch and small rake it don't tax the neck/tree area as much. Putting an 8" over front end on a non stretched frame, like a stock softail frame starts to get a wee bit flexy. Keep in mind a stock softail wide glide is actually a 4 over front to start with. Do you want 4 inches longer than that, or 8 inches longer yet??

Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at October 26, 2021 08:16 PM (l1zez)

Ok, the Captain America bike definitely had the neck raked and a long front, but it wasn't a springer. Some of these aftermarket springers don't have the tubes that pass through the tree as 1 piece. They are welded to the bottom side of the bottom tree, and the top part is separate and welded to the top side of the bottom tree. If the weld lets go you are fucked, and it has happened. The longer you go, the more stress. You are going to want to find a company that makes a long springer made in the style of the original harley springer. They are strong. They are out there, but I don't remember seeing any that were 8 over. I think the ones I saw were 2" longer than a stock softail, which is 6" longer than the FL front end. Basically everything seems to use the stock FL length as the base, so 2 over softail is really 6 over FL. I'll do some looking. Ok, now what about this motor?

Still here. Had the realtor over, could sell well in a seller's market, but don't want to buy back into a seller's market (the inflation in Zillow is telling). Stuff's kind of on hold for a few months, but early next year, we'll re-energize our southern search. SC seems to be the prime contender; FL didn't make the cut. We don't have them here that I'm aware of but I saw some cicada killers in Pennsylvania that were similar. HUGE hornets just buzzing around all over the beach and no one was bothered in the slightest. They didn't have the slightest interest in humans and the humans weren't concerned with their presence. Apparently really docile, too. They'll sting, but you've got to REALLY irritate one to make it happen.

I've seen those, they're awesome. We have a cicada killer wasp here in E. Texas that looks like a giant hornet, almost as big as that one. It's amazing to see them flying through the air carrying a cicada to their lair, the cicada being heavier than they are. Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at October 26, 2021 08:42 PM (l1zez)

Well upsizing the jugs on stock cases is a really bad idea. The cases have to be bored for the bigger jugs, and they just aren't strong enough, not enough meat around the cylinders. You end up building a time bomb. I don't know what your budget is, but the better way to go is stroker flywheels, no more than 4 5/8. That gives you an 89" motor thats reliable. Another way to go is the S and S FLSS kit. It uses the stock jugs, but has 10.1:1 compression, has the S and S 561 cam, heads with better ports and bigger intake valves, pushrods, pistons, gaskets, and will dyno at around 87HP, and it is frigging quick and reliable. At 60 mph you'll hardly be touching the gas. What year engine are you starting with, because that will really dictate what you can do.

So long as they're not in well-traveled places where they might get bothered by people and try to defend their nests I'll usually leave them alone. They are natures vultures and clean up a lot of roadkill and rotting meat.

Also if you ever see wasps and hornets methodically bumping up against the side of your house, they're hunting for spiders.

632 Evening.

So I'm reading a Yahoo News story about the Loudon County rape case.
https://tinyurl.com/wsjvfftx
There's one detail I found sad and enlightening. It's the kind of detail that never gets argued in these debates.
So apparently the girl who was raped testified that she had had two prior consensual sexual encounters with the perpetrator in the girl's restroom. First, let me say, that's fucked up. She's fourteen. I'm guessing he probably pressured her into it. But the main point I want to bring up is that no one ever points out that these so-called "Trans-Gender Bathroom Policies" really greatly enable the opportunity for, um...shenanigans. Like part of the reason you separate boys and girls is so that they don't do shit like that. And even if they find places to get into shenanigans anyway you don't want to have a public policy fucking encouraging it. It reminds me of how the Nazis (I know, I know) intentionally built summer camps for boys *right next* to the summer camps for girls. They wanted the resulting pregnancies. More Ubermen, I guess.

So I guess when we argue against these things it's important to avoid the trannies. The trannies aren't really of great number. What is it, half a percent? They're incidental. And making it about them just gives the leftist douchebags opportunities to call us bigots and haters. The focus needs to be entirely on the safety and well-being of girls. One, these policies open the door to psychopaths and perverts who will attempt to hide behind the rhetoric and law to do fucked up things and hurt girls and women. Secondly, and it's harder to admit, but even though we can all say boys are little horn dogs even the girls can get rascally and it's in the interest of everyone if we not encourage bad behavior that leads to suboptimal or even criminal outcomes.

Also, if you don't have one, where the water enters your house there should be a drain cut-off.

In other words you can cut the water from coming in off while at the same time drain all the water pipes above the level of the cut-off.

Theoretically that would be all your pipes.
