National School Board Association: Okay Maybe We Shouldn't Have Called Parents Domestic Terrorists

On Thursday, the Free Beacon has reported that the NSBA colluded with the White House to produce its Parental Domestic Terrorism letter. The White House specifically asked them to include "incidents" which would justify the White House siccing the DOJ and FBI on Republicans -- again.

The White House told them what they wanted from a what was supposed to look like an outside plea for help.

It was all a fix. All a set-up. Yet another case of The Regime faking up reasons to use the immense and terrifying power of the federal investigatory agencies against domestic political enemies.

The National School Board Association now says: "Was that wrong?"

Possibly again in collusion with the White House -- which I speculate has now asked them to write a second letter, climbing down from the previous position, in hopes that this will mollify the country and end the latest of Joe Biden's many, many crises -- the National School Board Association says that maybe the language they used (suggested by the White House) might have been a scoetch too strong.

In a memo to state affiliates, the NSBA board of directors cited the Sept. 29 letter to President Biden from NSBA President Viola M. Garcia and interim executive director and CEO Chip Slaven that raised the specter of domestic terrorism and hate crimes.

"On behalf of NSBA, we regret and apologize for the letter," said the NSBA memo. "There was no justification for some of the language included in the letter. We should have had a better process in place to allow for consultation on a communication of this significance. We apologize also for the strain and stress this situation has caused you and your organizations."

Rep. Elise Stefanik, New York Republican, responded to the memo by asking Mr. Garland to "immediately reverse the FBI's targeting of parents as 'domestic terrorists,'" while Sen. Josh Hawley, Missouri Republican, called on Mr. Garland to resign.

"It was a dangerous abuse of authority that has badly compromised the Justice Dept's integrity and Garland's. He should resign," tweeted Mr. Hawley.

Via Ed Morrissey at Hot Air, Axios writes that the McAuliffe campaign is in "panic" mode.

In the closing weeks of their closely watched Virginia gubernatorial race, Terry McAuliffe is going after Glenn Youngkin on unlikely ground -- public education -- as he tries to reverse the Republican's surprisingly strong challenge.

You don't fight to take a hill your opponent has already seized and fortified unless that hill is being used to demolish you.

Between the Lines: The race in Virginia is tight, and it was clear the McAuliffe campaign has taken on an air of tension -- bordering on panic.

The Associated Press discusses the bathroom r4pe controversy that is hurting McAuliffe.

Or do they? Note how they avoid telling readers what the controversy is about.

In a speech in Northern Virginia's suburbs last week, the Republican candidate for governor highlighted the murky case of a student who allegedly committed sex crimes in two area schools. He said the incidents, which have sparked community outrage, are the result of failed Democratic leadership.

Murky? What is murky about it? The student is not yet convicted but that doesn't make it "murky," unless all crimes in which the primary suspect is not yet convicted are "murky."

The AP is trying to suggest that there's a great deal of confusion about what happened.

There isn't.

And note they absolutely refuse to state that the alleged r4pist was a "boy in a skirt" and that this girl's violation is a direct consequence of permitting boys in skirts into bathrooms, where girls are vulnerable and isolated.

The AP deliberately censors the politically-relevant details of the case to make it sound like Youngkin is just baselessly blaming the left for random sexual assaults.

"What other tragedy awaits Virginia's children?" an atypically grim-faced Youngkin asked from the podium, flanked by a collection of parents and schoolchildren.

...

Youngkin's final-days focus on sexual predators in schools, hardly a widespread issue, will test the limits of his suburban outreach and provide lessons for Republicans aiming to retake control of Congress next year.

Police shootings of black men are "hardly a widespread issue" but I don't remember the hyperprogressives of AP trying to play those Local Crime Stories down.

Meanwhile, campaigning for McAuliffe, Barack Obama claims that teaching kids anti-white racism and anti-male hatred, and allowing boys to trespass into intimate spaces in which girls are alone and vulnerable, is a "trumped up culture war."

As always, f*** this ***hole.

I've offered to homeschool kids for friends for free, since I already have curriculum from K-12. The public schools have parents of special needs children over a barrel because of the cost of private therapies. How are so many "normal" kids still stuck?

I think public education was one of the worst. Mind you - not the notion taxing to collectively educate the little minds of mush. But the idea that Government should run the schools. That was about as smart as FDRs brain-wave to just nationalize various corporations during WWII - which Morgenthau wrote about talking him out of.

We should be doing the school choice thing. And at over $10K a head now - which is the going rate at any school district - you can't convince me that better results would not be had in the private sector.

Okay, so: they over-reacted, used incendiary language in the heat of the moment because of their anger that their holier-than-though Gnosticism and arrogance were challenged, they acknowledge their poor behavior, are apologetic over it and want to make amends and pursue greater openness.

Let's assume that is true. Have they called for the FBI to end its task force against parents under its counter-terrorism banner? Have they called for more openness with parents at the district level? Have they published guidelines for member Boards on public engagement, the need for respect for parents of children in their districts? Have they acknowledged that children do not belong to them? Do they assert that they are public servants, not masters? Are they changing their stance on FOIA and fighting info requests?

With inflation eating away the core of income, the additional cost to send kids to private schools has to be intimidating. And to take on the responsibility for your child's education when so many are poorly educated probably factors in as well. 202 I wish I knew why more people aren't kicking public schools to the curb.

I think that there is a lot of social pressure at play. Public schools aren't simply a means to an end regarding education, they're an indicator of status. People buy houses in good school districts both to get their kids access to those schools, and because it signifies that they've reached a certain socio-economic status. Furthermore, home values are often tied to crime rates and school performance, so I think a lot of parents feel pressure to protect those schools (part of the reason why they're not necessarily enamored with the idea of school choice, since it would draw in kids from outside communities).

It's bananas. I can only imagine it's just another way to push abortion. How do you one-up free abortion up to 9 months? Now make it paid time off, too. Or, they think they're sticking it to pro-life people with a catch-22 -- "Oh, why can't it be breavement, you do think it's taking a life, right? Gotcha!"

241 Money, and time. It costs money and time to properly school kids. Cheaper and easier to send them to Public School CRT.

Look at how much money your typical family pays in various taxes to support public education. It hits the working poor the hardest, because they've got the least amount of disposable income.

They can't afford to write a check to private school - but they could if that tax money wasn't being held hostage. We should be doing vouchers.

Not at all. There is greater transparency in public schools than private. A private school is a corporation and parents rarely get direct input into the process. They can comply with the rules or they can leave and go to a different school. Public schools are more transparent and responsive because school boards are answerable to the electorate and can be replaced by the will of the majority. Public education is more open and more flexible than private education. The problem of aggressive violence against school officials is a serious one, and responding to this through the marginalization of some voices until the dust settles is prudent. If this ends up being unpopular, the people can depend on the ballot box to change curricula or practices.

No private school has such directly responsive and open governance, nor are they subject to government reporting and disclosure rules like FOIA and its local analogues.

Raw data from patient specimens posted in the National Institutes of Health's gene bank showed researchers at the Wuhan lab in December 2019 were manipulating genes from the highly lethal Nipah virus, Quay said. The Nipah virus, which causes severe inflammation of the brain or encephalitis, has a death rate of about 80%, Quay warned.

"If you didn't like the pandemic that was just 1% lethal, this thing they were working on in December 2019 has an 80% lethality," he told MacCallum. "It needs to be stopped."

Quay told "Fox Business Tonight" on Thursday that virus research at the Wuhan lab poses "an existential threat to life as we know it on this planet." He explained to MacCallum on Friday that Wuhan scientists were manipulating Nipah viruses, just as, he believes, they engineered SARS CoV-2. "This is their next project, if I could call it that," he said.

304 Yes. I just wonder what would happen if all kids were in private schools. Then you'd have a nation full of private schools, manned by the same crazy woke teachers, still teaching bullshit. The few 'good' non-woke private schools would be priced out of reach of 99% of parents.

I'm not saying you're wrong - it's a good point - because people of a certain ilk by and large pursue certain lines of work. And I can't say I've ever got along with most of those that pursue teaching as a line of work.

But if that's the case - then the system isn't sustainable anyway - because we can't sustain it. And if that's true ... why are we kicking the can down the road anyway ? Let's just crash this bitch and get it done with.

Either we can self rule, self educate, all that shit - or we can't as a society. And if we can't, why hang around as is ?

316 80%? I would think that would be hard to keep going. The higher the virulence the more likely something is to burn out before it spreads. Diseases do not evolutionarily choose this path because it is is not a successful path for the virus or bacteria to propagate (not saying it is conscious, diseases like that kill everyone in an area and then die as soon as they mutate to something that virulent.)

Bubonic- 30% (which seems to be the sweet spot and the high end of mortality vs transmission and survivability.)

Pneumonic 97-98%. Probably the most deadly form of plague but also had the issues described above. Also, it was still the same bacteria, just managing to get a foothold in the lungs.

The Hemorrhagic fevers all have a very high rate, but they are both dramatic and kill quickly so it is difficult for them to spread.

If you were designing something like this, it would be possible, you would just have to try to engineer something that had a long incubation phase with a still transmissible disease. It would just be absolutely insane to do.

Just the relationship of a teacher not getting a paycheck from the government would be huge.

And I'm not sure what "crisis" Joe Biden has. He or his equivalent are in power for years to come, and 95% of the damage they will do has always been in areas where "politics" are irrelevant (as well as approval ratings).

Totally different paradigm. Private schools can be selective of their clients. The school itself can define within its charter the kind of student profile that it attracts so that if it wants a homogenous group of students who share a certain educational and cultural profile, the academy can demand that too.

Since the money is attached to the student, He Who Writes The Checks, Calls The Tune, unlike the government school issue where the King takes your money whether you like it or not and does whatever the King desires irrespective of any other thoughts or concerns.

If we had a nation of private schools we would have a nation of schools competing for your money. That would be the direct input of the parents.

The wokes would not have a say because most people aren't going to pay thousands a year to let their kids be taught to hate them. If you want evidence of that, the one thing to wake up the karens of Loudon County, VA was that exact topic.

The problem isn't even really the teachers. It's a rigid, progressive oversight by the government, reinforced by the corrupt teachers' unions. Teachers teach what they're told to teach. And those who don't comply are weeded out. Which is more likely to happen under a private system than a public one as we are all very well aware.

Ironically vouchers might undermine that very point, since any system of widespread vouchers means parents are no longer paying for it, the state is. The same parents who can't be bothered to take an interest in their kid's education when he's in public school aren't going to take much of an interest when the state is paying for private school.

What America was that ? Honestly ? The America that passed Social Security ? Or the America that didn't riot when FDR banned private hoarding of gold via executive order ?

When decades, exactly, did this America dedicated to individual liberty and small government exist ? Because folks wax eloquent here all the time about it. I've just never lived in it - or read about it.

I suggest letting at least 75% of the tax money the state spends on "education" follow the kids to whatever school THE PARENTS choose. Further, I suggest a significant tax break for those parents who have already put their kids through school; the over 65 school tax break needs to be moved down to age 50 or so because by that time most kids are out of K-12 education anyway. I would even consider a tax break for people who have no children - why should they fund the education of your kids, that is your responsibility?

Except Bezos, Gates, Zuckerberg, Dorsey made many people multi-millionaires through work, invention and talent.

When you say Tax The Rich, what you are really saying is that multi-billionaires don't know how to run a business or create wealth - only politicians and government through grifters, NGOs and corrupt bureaucrats can create wealth.

I categorically reject that claim that government spends the money better than those who earned it.

429 "Totally different paradigm. Private schools can be selective of their clients."

Where would they find enough non-woke teachers and staff to serve all schoolkids in the country? That labor pool is tiny. Again I say: the price of the 'good' schools would be out of reach of most parents, driven up by competition for applications. Everybody else then would have to settle for the 'bad' schools, and like it or lump it.

Don't forget the tendency of private companies to merge and acquire. Eventually, the 'private' schools would all merge into one big corporation, indistinguishable from the mess we have now, unaccountable to everyone.

I think the only real solution is not to have kids, but I know how unpopular and untenable that is.

You assume that the ONLY way to teach is in a structured classroom setting with an arbitrary student teacher ratio.

Don't forget the tendency of private companies to merge and acquire.

Sort of hard to do that with church/denomination based academies.

And just because Exxon merged with Mobile doesn't mean I'm stuck buying their gasoline when a Shell is right across the street.

456 Obama bears much of the blame for turning the United States into a hellscape that either will be broken apart peacefully, which obviously is preferable, or otherwise. But the Republican Party failed to put a brake on him, enabled the Left's jihad against Trump, and now stands back like buzzards doing nothing but waiting for the Biden Administration to rot enough to eat. In this immediate case, there was a huge opportunity for the GOP to use this as a teachable moment about CRT, but it has tip-toed around this evil in hopes it will not be called "racist."

Kudos to Hawley, but this should have been hammered like hell.

The administrative state was somewhere between tiny and virtually nonexistent up until Wilson, it was downsized again after Wilson then came back and never went away after FDR. It's the natural course of the administrative state to grow until it collapses everything. Absolutism is what this was called when this life cycle happened with monarchies (early feudalism is pretty decentralized).
