TxMoMe ONT

Howdy from the TxMoMe! Well, howdy in advance, we're not there yet. As soon a Little's football game ends (probably in about 20 minutes) we'll be heading down to Corsicana. Last week someone asked me on the ONT if I knew who would be posting tonight's ONT, because of the MoMe.

*Funny story about Leif. After he abandoned the settlement in Newfoundland, her returned to his native village, where he found that he was no longer listed as a citizen. Incensed, he went to the village clerk and demanded to know why. The clerk investigated, and then reported back “I'm sorry. I must have taken Leif off my census”.

puke.

We did not "evict", or conquer, or genocide the native americans. They were stone age and lived by stone age rules. The European system was rule of law (albeit flawed...) and that system took over as it has all over the world because the alternative is brutish and bloody.

Now, under rule of law we have EVERY right to close borders and deport illegals. There is no rule of law without,..... laws. If you toss out the laws we can only go back to rule by force. We are moving quickly in that direction. Fuck stonetoss.

When I was little, my granddad lived with us after my grandma died. They were both Depression-era packrats. My granddad, who was retired, would take odd jobs helping to tear down old buildings, sheds, etc. He and the other older guys would save every nail they pulled and put them in big old coffee cans. Then when winter came, my granddad would sit down in the basement in front of the coal furnace, with a hammer and a foot-long piece of rail, drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette, and straighten out bent nails.

That generation wasted nothing, not a damned thing, and I have always tried very hard to learn from that. I'm starting to think I'll be very glad I did.

247 I can't quite imagine that type of revolver being shot with blanks, but maybe paper wads are used. In the movie, shots at night had huge muzzle blasts.

If it was a more modern type, the cartridge loads that came after the cap and ball ones, and the 1875 New Army Colt comes to mind, one can readily do blank loads.

But why would a film shoot need live not blank ammo at all? The effects people can emulate the effect of the projectile striking anything, and a blank-fired gun will flash and kick back.

Perhaps the film was so low budget they didn't have the means of doing the effects, and thus needed live ammo on set to do real bullet hits, in fenceposts, barroom doors, whatever.

So the old gun safety rule, never aim at something you don't want to kill, does not apply here. A POV shot demands the shooter to fire at the camera.

264 253, BetaCuck4Lyfe, Umm, that particular 'history' fact is false. At the time of the framing, the Haitian revolt had not happened. Law enforcement was in the hands of a relatively few sheriffs and a few town marshals that had to round up a posse in good English common law fashion for regular law enforcement or to fight native American uprisings. At the time, before the Constitution was ratified, the standing army of the US was effectively a few units that were underfunded and undermanned. There was no US Navy. So, citizen militias were the only thing to repel invaders from Spain, England, etc. or pirates/natives.

The slave patrols came after Haiti. As a matter of fact, neither South Carolina nor Georgia had a bill of rights protecting firearm ownership and Georgia only had a right to keep and bear arms officially protected by a Georgia Supreme Court decision in 1846 that rested on incorporating the US Bill of Rights Second Amendment. A right to bear arms only came about in Georgia's Constitution after 1861 as a result of secession. The South was ambivalent about a general right to keep and bear arms because that would imply emancipated blacks would have that right.

276 The overturned Dredd-Scott decision featured an argument that the full Bill of Rights ought not be incorporated against the States, as it would infer that freed slaves would be able to freely go as they please, while armed, just as a white man.

So, the USSC in Dredd-Scott laid the foundation for all subsequent Jim Crow laws to follow, ALL of which should have been rendered null & void when Dredd-Scott was overturned.

The Heller Decision used the more accurately stated version of what I'd just typed, as heavy artillery in their arguments, which prevailed.

285 A pot of most any green vegetables is greatly enhanced by the addition of a tablespoon of bacon grease, a few good shakes of black pepper, and a shake or two of garlic powder.

Try it in a 2 qt. pot of green beans, for example. You'll eventually add a bit more of each ingredient, but build up slowly as to suit your tastes.

And you can't make a good pot of refried beans, without pure lard and a bit of bacon grease, which is even better than the flavor of a boiled-in ham hock. Unless the ham-hock was bacon cured to begin with, right?

"It's something we developed called a zero blank, it does eject a shell, but there's nothing that comes out of gun... basically it's a blank that doesn't have any charge to it, just a mechanism in it...to eject a shell casing. That way, there's no chance of an actor being hurt."

And what if you want to show, say, Bob Saget executing a cartel member at point-blank range? "We also have another type of gun where the flash goes out of the top ... so basically ... the flash is going upwards, but the barrel is totally plugged."

Mike and his team even maintain several fake guns made specifically for "suicide shots."

That's a big 10-4, there. First of all, nobody is going to point a gun at me under any circumstances. And second, even by some insanity I was taking part in filming or play-pretend where someone was going to shoot at me with blanks, you'd god-damned right I'm going to inspect it and make sure it's loaded with blanks.

But that would be just if I'd lost my damn mind, 'cause I'm not going to do that.

333 NaCly Dog, The key thing is to know the techniques to improve yourself. Now you know, and practice makes perfect (well x ring anyway). At the longer ranges, wind direction and making allowances for moving targets along with bullet drop makes shooting more challenging. I am frankly not up with that as I shoot from 100-300 yards or so and mostly with iron sights on old military rifles that often shoot 2-3 MOA or worse.

Something I found that can help make you a better shooter of longarms is to actually fire revolvers in double action. To do that well, you have to master the trigger stroke on a relatively heavy trigger and its return using a much shorter sight basis. And, it is usually easier to find a 20-25 yard handgun range than a rifle range greater than 300 yards or so.

Pretty much if you are using dead soft lead for your ball, the bore will swage your ball down just fine. Saw the figures on bullet swaging as I was going to get into that at one time. Not that much pressure is needed to do so unless grossly overlarge.

Well, allegedly, the woman killed , Halnya Hutchins, was born in Ukraine and grew up on a Russian military base.

There is also apparently a connection to her and Latham and Watkins (law firm) that could be Clintons "Consigliere" , in that they have done a lot of "work" for the Clintons.

There is more to this than meets the eye. And a good chance it gets swept under the rug.
IATSE union workers apparently walked off the set or were fired by Baldwin (the movie producer), and a lot of people who may not have been "qualified" were running the show.
And remember, Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself.

396 Day-later thanks to Morons responding to my last night's comment on unfamilial family, daughter's miscarriage, and kitty who died. We buried Miss Spirit this morning, down near a multitude of other pet graves.

Now we have only 2 cats, fewer than we've had since 1995. Ony the black is in-house for the night (although she wants out), and the other, Charlie the golden, well, he's not in yet. It's a hunter's moon out, but housecats can be hunters or hunted. He's smart; he'll probably show up, but it's already really late, and we can't really go to bed until he shows. Come home, Charlie, we've had enough loss lately.

With all that's going on, no way we could've made the TxMoMe, but we're there in spirits (mostly rum). Thinking of meeting the Woodstock-size horde in Texas is unnerving. Maybe a toe-in-the-water OkMoMe some day, to warm up.

Second, you can actually get a permit from AZ to harvest saguaro cactus (dead, I'm assuming, since they mention firewood) for $8. Might be same retail value in a dead one on your own property.

I do that, too. Great for storing/classifying small parts.

The plastic containers are like half the reason for buying their lunch meat. It's like knocking off two grocery store items from your list simultaneously.

Posted by: Robert at October 23, 2021 12:32 AM (NkVSN)

I do that too. Why throw away perfectly good food containers?
As a kid, my dad would save those thick plastic margarine/butter containers with the diamond pattern on them as cereal bowls for us kids.

427 I am going to have to take a good look at the dead cactus. Do the sticks have growth rings like other woody plants? I think this one was weakened by termites, and the windstorm finished it off.

Sugaros don't have growth rings:

Don't think fleshy plants do. Rings require times of fast growth and slow growth, so for some trees, they may generate multiple rings per year.

Well, I'd need to save up to make a trip like that. Out of vacation time at work, bills getting out of hand, gas up through the roof. So probably no long driving trips for me in the next 6mo to a year, until things settle down...if they ever do under Bidenomics.

I purposefully DON'T drink caffeinated beverages (except tea at Dim Sum) so that on long trips, if I need it, a Coke or Mountain Dew will keep me going.

482 480 Night to you both, red and jim.

Well, I said I *should* go to bed. LOL. I'll give it another 10 or 15 min.

483 479 Me and a friend drove from Tampa to Pittsburgh in 16 hours. I was younger and more fit. I never did it again. Wore me out. I love driving but I do have limits. I can probably drive 9-10 hours now, maybe. A frumpy middle aged guy doesn't quite have the stamina to do much more than that. I don't anyway.

50d = 0x32. You reach a certain age, and hexadecimal looks better...

My dad got into lots of things in the 70's and 80's. At one point, he decided to get a satellite dish (an 8-ft diameter dish, that is). We kids dug the hole, poured the concrete, leveled the post, and I set the azimuth, elevation, and true north settings. Worked pretty well; we could pick up satellites amost all the way across the sky.

Naw, just a bit worked up tonight. Hard to sleep until I settle down. One of those days. Going to the movies helped.

494 Long-time lurker, attended my first TxMoMe last night. Made two promises: to post my first comment ever, and to come back again to the next TxMoMe.

Every moron and ette we met were all welcoming and friendly. We had a great time.
