Product Review Of The Week
Click through and read the whole thing. It's hilarious. Good News? Inside TSMC, the Taiwanese chipmaking giant that's building a new plant in Phoenix How many of y'all think that the current supply chain issues are going to drive businesses back from overseas? That's not what this is, of course, but it's similar. Frankly, it makes a lot of sense. If I were a Taiwanese company, and I saw the feckless “leadership” of Brandon along with the Reds looking hungrily across the Straight of Formosa, I'd be building factories in America and the West too. Little Bitch George Takei calls William Shatner an ‘unfit’ guinea pig after spaceflight So last week William Shatner became the oldest human to go into space. Takei took the opportunity to take a shot at Shatner. This is a feud that goes back decades. I don't know any of the people involved personally, but Shatner has always seem pretty chill and Takei a grandstanding drama queen. Some say it goes back to Takei feeling that his character Sulu was being slighted on the original Star Trek. Dude, Sulu was never more than an interchangeable bit player. They replaced him with a wannabe Beetle with a bad Russian accent for heaven's sake. Others say that aggressively gay Takei wanted a taste of the captain's log, IYKWIMAIKYD, but aggressively hetero Shatner rejected him. I don't know where the real story lies, but to me the whole feud seems about like this: Original cartoon by Phillip M Jackson, edit by me ”Band Kids Have It Easy” For anyone who ever thought that the band kids didn't work as hard at their craft as the football team does at theirs, I give you the The Fightin' Texas Aggie Cadet Corps.

George Takei is such a whiny bitch, it's unreal. Arguably the ur-snowflake, everything about this guy for decades has been either crapping on other people or complaining about how he and his family are oppressed.
That being said, I've heard from people who've dealt with him that Shatner is a monumental pain in the ass when the cameras aren't rolling so the feud probably does cut both ways. Posted by: CppThis at October 21, 2021 09:11 PM (UewuT) 32

Jen Psaki, November 26, 2021:
I know that many of you were disappointed that you couldn't get turkey for Thanksgiving this year. Frankly, the Biden Economy is doing so gosh-darn well that there was far more demand for turkey than usual, so we ran out. Because of this, the available turkey supplies had to be prioritized to critical areas: Washington DC, Manhattan, San Francisco, and blue cities generally. Frankly, meat is bad for you, so you should be shifting to a plant-based diet anyway. You need to lower your expectations, and stop whining. Contrary to rumor, we expect that bread supplies will be adequate for Christmas - if Trumpist wreckers and saboteurs are kept from destroying our economy. All available FBI agents are being assigned to protect our bread supplies from these Trumpist vermin. And remember, we raised the chocolate ration from thirty grams to twenty grams last week! I think some antifa folk in Portland had that happen recently. Guy letting a, "Comrade", and his girlfriend crash. He called the cops to get them out because they were a nuisance. The Comrade told the cops that the place was his and that the actual renter was the intruder. Being Portland, the cops didn't do the right thing and shoot all three of them. Their choices are (in order of desirability) 1) USA, 2) Japan, 3) S. Korea, or 4) Europe. S. Korea has its own problems with aggressive commies, and Euros are lazy, unless you go Eastern Europe. Japan is good, but expensive, and the Japanese work ethic isn't what it once was. Thus, I'd say they made the right choice. Posted by: pep at October 21, 2021 09:22 PM (ZsR3z) 85

Had to miss the school at the school board meeting tonight but apparently some of our parents group fighting the insanity took off their masks part way through, they were warned to put them on, refused and then some other parents took their off. Chaos and heated discussion followed. Cops didn't know what to do, I think they decided dragging parents out would be a bad look. Board adjourned the meeting after only 4 or 5 speakers and walked out, brave public servants that they are.

My oldest is a freshman and marches with a sousaphone aka marching tuba. He works his tail off. Doing the foot game halftime show is the least of what they do. There are these marching band competitions and that is what they really train for. I have discovered that it is a big deal, a really big deal in Texas. Texas has most of the top HS marching bands in the country. Have I mentioned that it is extremely competitive. It is a huge production, tens of Thousands of dollars are raised by boosters and spent to have shows designed and choreographed. They hire movement teachers and choreographers to come teach the kids. Some schools will spend upwards of $60,000 or more for a show. I've even heard of much more being spent.
But, my son loves it! It's a good group of kids with involved parents. We have 2 more big shows to attend this year. Posted by: lin-duh at October 21, 2021 09:35 PM (UUBmN) 145

Would like to see the Cars. Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr are dead, so no chance there, but it is my wish. I had tickets to see them on their "Door to Door" tour, but they cancelled and then later retired so I never got to see them.
As to Shatner vs Takei, I always heard Shatner was a prim-a-dona and initially sided with Takei and the rest of the secondary characters from the original series. But as time has marched on, I seen Shatner fess up to his faults and be gracious to the others. I've seen nothing but pettiness and venom from Takei. Real life George Takei story:
I attended a college where George Takei's brother was a professor. He was a philosophy professor, a kind gentleman, and both well-respected and well-liked. His brother George came to campus to give a lecture about being an actor and being on Star Trek, etc. Word on the street the next day was that he was out trolling the college-kid bars for boys, and was, umm, kindly asked to leave. Keep in mind this was 30-some years ago, before he was an out-gay and before gayness was somehow equal to godliness, and it was at a rural college in a very conservative area. I didn't have his brother for any classes, but folks who did said that in the following days, he was apologetic, and George never did another speaking event at that school, at least not in the years I was there. There are some bands\artists that it would be interesting to have more work from their prime that was cut off (Skynrd, Hendrix, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Doors come to mind).
But most of the bands I like, if they got back together they would be 55 and up and the odds of them recording anything new good would be slim indeed. It's a young man's game and I am content if they even still play their classic stuff with any fire if I see them live in the present day. I followed some fan groups on FB cause every so often you learn some inside stuff but usually it's more like "Ray and Dave Davies went out to lunch!! Maybe we can hope for a new Kinks album!!!!!" > Is it a 'prop gun' if it fires live rounds and kills people?
The one that killed Brandon Lee had a stuck bullet in the barrel. The blank the prop guys loaded in the gun built enough pressure to fire a lethal shot. If things are running properly, the prop master has control of the guns until just before the scene is shot, then the prop master retrieves the guns as soon as the scene is done. They're supposed to check everything carefully. I suspect this wasn't the case because Alec Baldwin is a MASSIVE asshole and who's going to tell that fucking twat "no?" If I remember rightly, none of the supporting cast had any problem with Shatner, Nimoy, or Kelley during or after the show ended. There was a book released during the time between the end and before the conventions and movies started that had a section on what the actors were doing. Takei was doing political and theater work and the others seemed to be doing well too. Nothing happened until the conventions started and the crowds started showing interest in them. They started thinking they were more than occasional players. This thinking was echoed by Nimoy and Shatner in the "Mind Meld" dvd that came out a few years after the movies ended. Everything was fine until they started being courted by the conventions. Even Nimoy had bad relations with un-named co-stars.
I think that's the real reason for the Takei-Shatner feud. Walter Koenig seemed to take that position too when he appeared on Shatner's Raw Nerve program. Looks like he and Shatner made up and now get along. They thought they were more important than they were, but didn't care until the conventions and movies gave them that impression. Marched with the FTAB back in the 80s. The drum majors laid out every halftime drill. Probably use computers now but back then it was all drawn out on paper. Show up for practice Monday morning and it's "Here's your card, memorize it before afternoon drill." Do a walk through, go to class, come back around 1600 do a few walk throughs and go to dinner. Then a couple more and hit the books. IT is not the same show for the past 70 years. A lot of the same elements because you can only do so much. Then throw in the pro games (did the half time at Cowboys-Eagles game), bowl games, parades, other random events and it's a LOT of work. And a lot of fun too.

Posted by: klaftern at October 21, 2021 10:24 PM (taPSh) Tech Sergeant Chen/ Fred Kwan was intended to be a parody of Sulu, and that's one of the great stories about the making of that film. They had all the parts cast and were ready to start filming, but still didn't have anyone hired for Tech Sergeant Chen. Then they found out that Tony Shaloub was available, so they immediately went to him and got him to sign on. As soon as he got there, not being asian, they realized that none of the lines they had in the script worked anymore, so they threw that part out. Out of desperation came genius - they asked Shaloub if he could come up with a character, and if would like to write all of his own lines. He loved the idea! And that's how brilliant, goofy, laid back Tech Sergeant Chen was born. (and it's a testament to Shaloub's talent) Posted by: Tom Servo at October 21, 2021 10:39 PM (evAgx) 390

@316 If I remember rightly, none of the supporting cast had any problem with Shatner, Nimoy, or Kelley during or after the show ended.
------- I don't think this is entirely true. Tim Allen's character in Galaxy Quest - particularly the character's ego - is supposed to be based in part off of Shatner, and Shatner even joked about the character when commenting on the movie. What I've heard is that the problems were more ignorance on Shatner's part than anything else, and he didn't realize what was going on until after the show ended. In any case, based on what I've heard he supposedly made up with the rest of the case afterwards - except for apparently Doohan (Scotty), and Takei. I don't know what all happened between Shatner and Doohan. But it seems pretty clear that Takei is holding a grudge that he should have put to rest a very long time ago. They might have felt something during TOS, but they came in once, maybe twice a week, while S,N,K were there everyday. Sure, if you come in that little and have part of your scenes cut, you might get miffed. But, they weren't the reason people watched. The Kirk, Spock, McCoy triad was the reason. Shatner, Nimoy, and I guess Koenig believe the convention stuff is when the feuding started. And Takei couldn't get over it. Neither could Doohan. As soon as he got there, not being asian, they realized that none of the lines they had in the script worked anymore, so they threw that part out. Out of desperation came genius - they asked Shaloub if he could come up with a character, and if would like to write all of his own lines. He loved the idea! Posted by: Farmer at October 21, 2021 10:38 PM (55Qr6) hot as you can stand it Epsoms Salts is traditional. You might try changing the type of antibiotic, or get a sulfa based one instead. Some people have luck with drawing salve, (ichthammol & pine tar) and really scrubbing it with soap and betadine might do something as well. All sort of chain-of-custody shit, and multiple checking to make sure a weapon is safe. That is, the prop master has to sign a document saying the weapon he's releasing is safe to be used. And then, another chain of people who have to double check that before handing it off to the actor. All this is to avoid such "real bullets instead of blanks" accidents. Re: Kirk versus Sulu There's is animosity between those two going back decades. For whatever reason those two don't like each other, but to be fair Shatner has shown himself to be extremely petty as well. In blank cartridges, there is no bullet, only wadding.
Posted by: Captain Obvious at October 21, 2021 11:36 PM From wiki: (Character fires at Lee as he walks into the room) In the scene preceding the fatal scene, the gun was loaded with improperly-made dummy rounds, cartridges from which the special-effects crew had removed the powder charges, so in close-ups the revolver would show normal-looking bullets. However, the crew neglected to remove the primers from the cartridges. At some point before the fatal event, one of the rounds had been fired; although there was no powder charge, the energy from the fired primer was enough to push the bullet into the gun barrel, where it got stuck. For the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be fired at Lee from a distance of 12-15 ft, the dummy cartridges were replaced with blank rounds, which contained a powder charge and primer, but no bullet, allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. When the blank round was fired, the bullet lodged in the barrel was propelled forward with almost the same force as if the round were live, and it struck Lee in the abdomen. The base Pro Power Onboard configuration is a 2.0-kW system only available on gas-powered Ford F-150 models equipped with either a 2.7-liter V6, a 3.5-liter V6, or a 5.0-liter V8. The only engine that does not offer the Pro Power Onboard system is Ford's 3.3-liter V6.
With the 2.0-kW system, the engine sends power to a pair of 120-volt, three-prong outlets in the truck bed. This system provides up to 2,000 watts of power to anything plugged into them, which is a significant upgrade over the 400 watts of energy available from most truck bed outlets. General applications at this level of power could include light construction projects, landscaping, tailgating, and camping. $995.00 Posted by: Braenyard at October 22, 2021 12:08 AM (9K2Y6) 574

The soldier said that he'd had an issue with a hang fire, and the officer told him to deal with it. I was paying attention to the exchange, because when the soldier went to open the breech of his rifle, he pointed the muzzle right at my face. I grabbed the barrel of his rifle and pointed it in a safe direction, gave him a few, choice, brief words, looked his officer in the face and said, "See to your man". That was the way of it. We all know guns fire themselves causing millions of deaths each year. Disarm Hollywood if it just saves one life.

The Santa Fe Sheriff's office is calling this a criminal investigation. Again, we'll just have to wait and see. Criminal could mean "depraved indifference" and similar, so we'll just have to see where this goes. Mornin'
(sips coffee) I'd like to see Uncle Tupelo reunite. I think all the original members are still alive. Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy hated each other, hence the split. I'm assuming that has changed over the years. Or not. Posted by: Puddleglum at October 22, 2021 02:18 AM (QFVV9) Posted by: Emmie at October 22, 2021 02:20 AM (6RgRK) 671
Seriously how the hell is live ammunition even near a movie set? How are you handed a gun and you can't verify it is loaded with blanks or live ammunition.
Know the condition of your weapon at all times. Treat every gun as if it were loaded. Always point your gun in the direction of least danger. Never place your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire. Never fire at a target until it has been identified as well as the backstop. A baldwin violated several of the rules! Several. Posted by: Puddleglum At the end of the concert, give them prop guns loaded with blanks; that'd be one way to find out if they still hate each other. Posted by: JT at October 22, 2021 02:22 AM (arJlL) 673
One might assume that as many guns he's handled in all his movies that he'd have better sense.
However, our betters never make mistakes. Posted by: Braenyard at October 22, 2021 02:22 AM (KUXK6) 674

A baldwin has handled guns his whole career. He's a grown ass man. Prison time seems like a good outcome. He killed an innocent person and seriously injured another through neglect at the very least. He willfully fired the gun.

Start out on the assumption that, since it's a Western, the firearm would be something like a Colt Peacemaker, or possibly an earlier Colt Navy (percussion cap w/ball). Depends on the time period depicted, and also how historically accurate.
Can't imagine what went wrong. Somebody really screwed the pooch. As often happens, usually more than one error. A series of fuck ups compounding. Or, Baldwin just wanted to kill someone. That certainly can't be ruled out. Posted by: Common Tater at October 22, 2021 02:29 AM (PlGk9) 678

The chain of errors ended with the idiot a baldwin pulling the trigger at least once. He ended the chain he is ultimately responsible. Sure he had some help if it was negligent discharge. But it was his discharge. He should sit in prison to think it through.

Alec Baldwin, anti 2A bozo and gun hater and general assclown, has this year killed more people with a gun he pulled the trigger on than 99.995% of all Americans did this year.
1%er? Nah. A 0.005%er. Go scream at your daughter, fuckwad; do something you are good at. Posted by: GnuBreed at October 22, 2021 02:41 AM (F0YaR) 688
Now that I think about it, probably wrong to "assume" it was a pistol. Maybe a rifle of some kind was involved. This would explain two people wounded, and also maybe why this occured. Muzzle loaders are different, they can have a charge in them and the inexperienced might think they are safe. Just WAG here.

Apparently in a past ABC article from 2017,
Alec Baldwin opens up about past battle with alcoholism, drug addiction Iianm, that disqualifies Mr. Baldwin from ever buying a gun. Maybe someone shouldn't have supplied him with one. Anyone do a background check on this killer? Posted by: GnuBreed at October 22, 2021 03:14 AM (F0YaR) 692
