Two New Polls Put Joe Biden's Approval Rate at 37% As RealClearPolitics Average Drops to 42%
According to the poll, which surveyed 1,342 adults nationwide between Oct. 15 and 18, Biden’s approval has dropped to 37 percent -- despite the fact that only 23 percent of respondents were Republicans. The poll was D+4. Only 38 percent of those surveyed said they have a "favorable" impression of the president. That's less than Trump’s 39 percent "favorable" rating in the same poll, despite the sample group leaning blue. The poll indicates Biden's approval has slipped across demographic groups. Not only is he a staggering 39 points underwater with white men (26 percent approve to 65 percent disapprove), but he's also lost the support of white women and Hispanics. Approval among white women is down to 40 percent, with 53 percent disapproving, a 13-point deficit.LOL. He's losing the support of Karen.
And among Hispanics, it's a gaping 18-point difference (33 percent approve to 51 percent disapprove).And also losing support from the "Latinx" community. As far as strong support and strong disapproval: 18% "strongly" approve of Biden's job approval. But the percent of people who "strongly" disapprove: 43%. 52% of the country also says we're worse off now than we were last year under Trump, in the depths of the lockdowns, and without any vaccines. Independents say the country is worse off than it was four years ago, by a margin of 56% to 30%. And there was even more bad news for Biden in the poll. Support for a border wall is growing, and opposition is softening:
Americans are split on building a wall along the border with Mexico as 45 percent support building a wall, while 49 percent oppose it. Among registered voters, 46 percent support building a wall, while 49 percent oppose it. That is the lowest level of opposition to building a wall along the border with Mexico since November 2016 when the question was first asked by the Quinnipiac University Poll. The highest percentage of voters opposed to building a wall along the border with Mexico was 64 percent in 2017.A Grinnell poll released today confirms the 37% job support finding.
When asked whether they approve of the job President Biden is doing, only 37% approve (50% disapprove). Disapproval is highest when it comes to his handling of immigration (27% approve; 58% disapprove) and the economy (36% approve; 53% disapprove). Additionally, only 36% of Americans believe the economy will be in a stronger position 12 months from now -- an 11-point drop from March 2021. Right now, the math is simple: a majority of Americans believe the economy will be doing worse in 12 months than it is today, and that pessimism is keeping President Biden's approval ratings in the basement," said Hanson. If the 2024 presidential election were held today, the same percentage of likely voters would vote for former President Donald Trump (40%) as President Biden (40%), and 14% of voters say they would choose someone else. While Biden polls stronger among his Democratic base than Trump does among Republicans, Biden's support among independent voters has collapsed.And the word "collapsed" is justified:
"In 2020 exit polling, President Biden won independent voters by a 54% to 41% margin,” said J. Ann Selzer of Selzer & Company. "If the election were held today, our poll shows former President Trump winning that group 45% to 28%. While I have no doubt Biden stole the election, he did it by stealing a few thousand votes in a few swing states. He didn't steal millions of votes.
Bush won 51% in 2004 and his approval was at 30% in 2008. People do change their minds.

Those excerpts are from two polls, obviously, but it begs a question: if 49% of voters oppose a border wall, why do 53% of voters disapprove of Biden's immigration handling? They aren't exactly the same thing, but those questions are kissin' cousins.

That's been my operating theory for a while. They're starting to send the message that Dems can back away from Biden. We're starting to see stories that aren't completely flattering to the WH. Soon it will be how the West Wing is in turmoil, how decisions take forever to get made, how Biden struggles to follow conversations or stay awake in key meetings, etc. His SOTU will be hailed as nothing short of lincolnesque, but then commentators will add, "but doesn't he appear tired to you?" A few weeks later he'll address the country from the Oval Office and announce his resignation.

I love me some Buffalo Trace products, but I do not believe anything they say about producibility matters. They ALWAYS have a reason as to why they can't keep up with demand.
I used to buy B Trace, Eagle Rare, COL EH Taylor, Blantons, Weller, etc when they were readily available at or near MSRP. Now the only things you can easily find are 80 proof Benchmark and Ancient Age - unless you want to pay the outrageously inflated prices.
I'll buy B Trace whenever I see it if it's $25-$30. Otherwise, there are plenty of other great bourbons and ryes available.

I've only been into bourbon for a few years now, but the mash bill matters IMO.

True. Just one of the wheels within wheels that was Dune - the book. It's almost as good as Prometheus - if Prometheus was ever a book. Which would have been impossible to read.
There's a passage in Dune about how the Atreides use their propaganda to remind the Fremen how lucky they are now. The Atreides know Dune is a trap - but go anyway. And a point where just picking up, leaving that planet, and going rogue would have been the smarter option. The Emperor pulls the string - even though he always admired the Duke - and would have liked to pulled a marriage with Paul and his daughter instead.
Oh - and the can't possibly be corrupted training that produces all their best doctors ? Yeah - that's the guy that fucked 'em. But he fucked 'em under the best of intentions - just so he could make sure his wife he hadn't seen for years stopped screaming.
Great book. Too bad they kept writing sequels.

Higher proofs are generally much sweeter (Wild Turkey, Old Grand Dad 101s). Unfortunately, you need to spend money for a less sweet bourbon. I was pleasantly surprised when I found the "budget" Whistle Pig PiggyBack Rye to be a bit more singular and smoother than the big brother Rye. Basil Hayden is a good one that's easy to find, not very sweet at all, and relatively inexpensive.

Houston has never had zoning, and in fact the voters rejected it 3 times even though the city is Democrat. However, there is a sort of quasi-zoning that is done through the requirement for water and sewer connections. A neighborhood that is historically single-family cannot just have multifamily housing put on it, because the sewers and water mains will not support the increased density. So before the multifamily housing can go in, there has to be an "improvement project" (read, graft opportunity) to "upgrade" the neighborhood. These can be successfully fought, and in any event take years before they are done. There is a similar process for gas and electric connections, transformers, and substations, but the utility typically works on a lot faster timetable than city government.

Reading the reviews, it sounds like it's a pretty straightforward adaptation of the book. The major problem people seem to have is how it ends.
It introduces a bunch of new information and characters, we get a small fight, and then it ends. Anyone who knows the book should have a good idea of what I mean.

the BMR's are exempt from the HOA guidelines. Besides, our HOA is as toothless as they come. EVERYBODY ignores it, which is a bit of a pisser for some things. About all the HOA is good for is keeping the parks and greenbelts looking good, and if people followed the rules the place would be a bit cleaner. They'll come by and bitch that a tree needs trimming etc., but don't do squat.
The HOA at my townhouse however - they'd kick your ass to the curb.

putting the Champagne argument/discussion aside since it is tired. I recommend Gruet. It is from New Mexico and made by French people. If nothing else it is a conversation piece. Luckily you can easily get it and it has always been at the top of the price/value equation. Maybe you have to throw in a couple extra bucks because it is not an unknown. Once people realize there is value there, the price will go up a bit.

FEC Complaint Seeks to Force Joe Biden to Officially Confirm He Is Running in 2024
The Committee to Defeat the Presidents complaint alleges that Biden or his authorized committees received contributions above the $5,000 threshold by November 2020 and after he was sworn in as president in January 2021. Therefore, he is a candidate for the 2024 cycle and must file a Statement of Candidacy reflecting that fact. It also asserts that if Biden says he is not a candidate for 2024, he impermissibly raised approximately $2 million in contributions through his authorized committee, the Biden Victory Fund.
Yes, let us see Biden announce his candidacy with those low polling numbers. This could get interesting.

As the broke, seldom-rinker I was in college, I usually ended up with the cheap, leftover tequila no one wanted, and it's was vile. When older, I enjoyed scotch and bourbon greatly, but after trying some nice, higher quality tequila, there was no comparison. Much more flavorful and pleasant, at least to me.

I always pair Champagne with a big chicken/trukey dinner. Seems if it accompanies a rib sticker meal there are no hangover problems. It also cleanses the palate to enjoy the gravy over and over again.
