Top Story

  • A lot is being made of the massive bandwidth available to Apple's new M1 Max CPU - 400GB per second, using 8 channels of LPDDR5 RAM.

But while that's massive for a laptop processor, it's not particularly special for a laptop. My Dell Inspiron 16 Plus has 387GB per second - it's just split across separate CPU and GPU chips. A gaming laptop with a the mobile version of the RTX 3070 has around 500GB per second.

The new chips are good, no question, but they're not as groundbreaking as the news suggests.

  • Neither is Google's new Pixel 6. (AnandTech)

Okay, it runs Google's own mobile chip with two Arm X1 cores instead of the one that Qualcomm provides. But it also downgrades the secondary cores from A78 to A76. The AnandTech article suggests that Google's explanation for this makes no sense, and I tend to agree.

Plus, being Google's own design, it lacks a microSD slot.

---
I think you're correct that the bandwidth available to the CPU is a bit overhyped which is typical for Apple. Still, the integrated SOC gets rid of a lot of the buses that you have in a traditional computer design. That efficiency seems to be a way forward to increasing battery life and certain amount of raw CPU efficiency. Apple is really on to something from my perspective. The Google tensor chip is interesting less from the technical specs of the chip itself but more that there are following Apple's lead. These companies rolling their own silicon seems to confirm that the future is highly optimized software running on a purpose made silicon. The next five or so years are going to be pretty interesting

17 Since sad Anime news, Chris Ayres, voice of Freiza and others, older brother of Greg Ayres, voice of everyone who hasn't reached puberty, died yesterday from a long term lung issue.

On to MacBooks, I looked at the new Pro models, and while expensive since they're macs, the top one isn't actually too bad based on what i expected. $3,500 base, with just 2 options, $400 to double your ram to 64GB, and up to $2,200 to go from a 1TB SSD to a 8TB SSD. Think this is on par with the MPB line, if not cheaper than past models for the same tier. I know the one i purchased as "like new" was their top spec in 2017, but with just a 500GB SSD, and it retailed for $5,400 new, and I've only got 16GB Ram. This also has a few ports, including once for new SD cards, which is nice for importing video.

I'd still wait to see if the M1 Max has major faults, and I still hate Apple's insistence that only the morons that work in the apple store can open ther computer up and fix it, but otherwise I'd probably get one of these if I won the lottery.

Apple makes nice gear but at the end of the day it still hardware that depreciates rapidly in value. If I was running a business where those optimizations, say in processing video for example , it would make sense to look at them carefully. But that's not where I'm at in computing anymore. My new surface Pro 8 is all the computer I need as a daily driver. When I want more computer I go to my well-spec desktop with a 30-inch color calibrated screen. The computer gear is so good anymore that it's pretty hard to go wrong as long as you spend a minimally sufficient amount of money without regard to who's making it though we all have our own preferences.

I'm personally not dealing with feeling that God doesn't love me right now, but I know it's a big concern for almost everyone at times, and the link is a good one.
This whole site http://bulletininserts.org has different categories on subjects that are very helpful, I think such as suffering and trust in God.

95 "What a shit show, but that is what happens when the Military becomes a petrie dish of social experaments"

The bad thing is that even single hit in that report was preventable.

Lessons had been learned many times over, and precautions were required to be in place to reduce the likelihood of this fire happening.

Hell, I have even shut down availabilities due to unsafe practices and failure to conform to standards. Been called on the carpet several times by the CO, and higher. Yet my decisions wee never over-rides, and the discrepancies were fixed prior to re-commencing work.

But....that was old school.

I'm basically a heathen by upbringing, but since getting on board with Christianity, I've found that the feeling of "why is the Lord doing this to me" is usually a sign that either I'm doing something wrong or that i just need to be patient.

Long story short:
- every act and thought is a Prayer, even trivial stuff. The Lord is always listening, so make your entire day a running conversation with the Lord.
- Make it a two way conversation. Stop demanding that everything go your way, ordering Him to fix your mess like you're some kind of emperor, and learn to shut up and listen for once.
- some things are just going to suck, so stop blaming the only guy in the universe who is definitely trying to help you.

Once i got into the habit of doing this, the tribulations of life and the feeling of unfairness gradually melted away.

BREAKING REPORT: OSHA Announces They WILL NOT ENFORCE Policy That Requires Employers Record Their Worker's ADVERSE REACTION to Covid-19 Vaccine "At Least Through May 2022"...

They actually did this a few weeks ago (AUG 3, 2021): https://bit.ly/3nf6VpT

WTF??! OSHA quietly changed rules for employers requiring the vax - appearing to now shield them from liability. They first said if an employee was required to vax - and they have an adverse reaction - it is "work related" & must be recorded.

NOW they are saying that employers DONT have to report adverse reactions to vax bc they don't want to discourage ppl from getting it. Wtf?? So it's ok to not report (aka, HIDE) any negative side effects from the vax??? SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN.
