What qualifies as "social-emotional learning"?

Sheep-Dog-150x150.jpg

He who controls the language controls the masses.

Saul Alinsky, Rules for Radicals

I was reminded of this quote by Grace on Twitter, who provided several examples of language-warping which could lead to really serious consequences. She also said:

Refuse their vocab. It's modern day spell-casting. Make them agree with you to define terms or don't have the 'conversation.'

This advice reflects her own experience in "the fire", when "woke" employees of the non-profit she and her husband started attempted to wrest control of the nonprofit organization from them by accusing them of racist abuse of the people they were helping.

She prevailed in that situation partly by taking her own advice above.

But in politics, there is a second problem, which is getting them to a place where they reveal what they mean by their language, instead of just clamming up.

This brings us to Ace's big stories from yesterday:

Emails Reveal that National School Board Association Colluded With White House To Draft That Letter Demanding the DOJ Treat Concerned Parents as "Domestic Terrorists"

New reporting suggests that the National School Board Association colluded with the Biden White House regarding their letter demanding that the FBI treat critics of leftwing schoolboards as potential domestic terrorists.

This is key:

The left-wing education company co-founded by Merrick Garland's son-in-law used a training session for teachers focused on "systemic racism," recommending an article that referred to Trump rally-goers as "examples of white supremacy" akin to the Ku Klux Klan.

Panorama Education, co-founded by Xan Tanner, who is the group's president, claims it has made its way into thousands of schools in the U.S., selling race-focused student and teacher surveys and conducting training on systemic racism and oppression, white supremacy, unconscious or implicit bias, and intersectionality, all under the rubric of "Social-Emotional Learning." The company makes it clear that "SEL" is just a "vehicle" for achieving its goals related to "equity."

Social-emotional learning.

And there's this:

Luke Rosiak: The Loudoun County School Board Knew All About the Sexual Assault In Their Schools' Bathroom; They Were Informed Of It The Day They Happened

But they lied about when asked by the father of the girl who'd been r4ped.

Garland did not do well when questioned about this case.

Learning to deal with people like the father of a girl who has been r4ped, used as an example of a domestic terrorist in a letter you received, is not his idea of "social-emotional learning". Apparently.

Bits of positive news: 17 state AGs have condemned the DOJ targeting of school board meetings. (old news) And FINALLY, the National School Board Association has apologized for their letter. (new news).

So, what qualifies as "social-emotional learning"?

Many local and state school boards require teaching children something along these lines. But what does it mean? As Grace says,

Make them agree with you to define terms

You are in a position to force the conversation. Remember that.

What does your school board think social emotional learning is?

Getting along with the kids in your first grade class?

Maybe. If you send the details to Panorama. Along with a description of your interactions with your family.

Civics?

No. Social activism for leftist organizations? Probably.

Does child pornography qualify?

Yes! Librarians agree!

Here, a purchased, copyrighted SEL program teaches 13 year old kids how to have a variety of sexual experiences, and to become enthusiastic blabbermouths about those experiences.

Know any kids? You may wish to investigate what they are being taught. by Merrick Garland's son-in-law and others in similar businesses which contract with school districts. The schools themselves should not be free from scrutiny.

As an aside, the United States Conference of Mayors has released a detailed position piece in support of teaching critical race theory in K-12 schools.

Also,

How did we get to a place where the President, Attorney General and National School Board Association work together to label parents at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists"? Braenyard had a clue last week:

"No one worried about the weaponization of government." So, we went right from the nefarious legacy of John Brennan (who lied under oath to Congress twice),

James Clapper (who lied under oath to Congress once), James Comey (who leaked confidential presidential memos), Andrew McCabe (who gave false testimony to federal investigators),

Lisa Page (who was fired from the special counsel's legal team for various unprofessional conduct),

Peter Strzok (about whom there is not enough space to detail his transgressions), and the now convicted felon Kevin Clinesmith onto the next round of impeachments.

They feel impervious to consequences. With good reason.

12 The Loudon County School rape case is a prime example of real world consequences from language-warping regarding gender. That girl was only raped, because of our culture agreeing that the mental disorder of gender dysphoria should be normalized in society.

This language-warping regarding gender to normalize people with mental disorders is now accepted all over in society, from government to schools to colleges to businesses to corporations. And the same thing is happening to people who reject it as those who reject the SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 "vaccine": threatened with loss of job, getting kicked out of school, etc.

I agree with the sentiment that everyone needs to fight this stuff. But easier said than done. Unless people unite to fight this and reject it, people are not going to be able to fight it alone, with the threat of loss of job, loss of education or loss of their child's education as a consequence.

15 One of the central tenets of government, is to clamp down on ANY encroachment on its power, much more strenuously than it does anything anyone does to a private citizen.

Witness the dark cell holding of people who trespassed and (possibly) committed minor vandalism in the Capitol, including one person who was murdered for it, versus the "give them space to destroy" riots of Summer 2020, including the torching of millions or billions(?) of dollars worth of private buildings and property.

Of course disrupting a school board meeting is terrorism, while shitting on sidewalks and shooting up in front of private businesses, or waltzing into a Walgreens and cleaning out the shelves is merely the price to pay for being allowed to do commerce in the big city.

Posted by: BurtTC at October 23, 2021 10:46 AM

Back in college (Purdue 1994-1999), I used to go to the CoRec (Co-Recreational Facility) large gymnasium, which had a 1/8 mile track on a second level which encircled the large gym. The gym was wide enough to have, I think, about 4 full basketball courts. But they were mainly used during the evening for intramural games. During the day and afternoon, they held various classes. I discovered the time of day when they had yoga and other various classes which were frequented by mostly college girls.

Every day when those classes were held, I made sure to get my running in. When I was running the portion of the track in their view, I made sure to run as quickly and impressively as I could. When I was running on the portion of the track behind them, I made sure to jog and admire the view.

And I *hate* running. But, you sacrifice and do things you don't wanna do for a good purpose...

I think you are quoting Friedman:

"I do not believe that the solution to our problem is simply to elect the right people. The important thing is to establish a political climate of opinion which will make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. Unless it is politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either, or it they try, they will shortly be out of office."

What we have now is the opposite, and the question is how to change it

I think there is some good news. The appearance of high schoolers today is more "normal" than it was 4 years ago. Less blue hair on the girls. Less soy in the boys. A lot less gender bending it seems. The girls for sure have not abandoned "traditional Western standards of beauty" regardless of whether Western or not.

And while the kids can't soak in that woke without some of it sticking, they seem to be rejecting a lot of it, and making fun of it.

There is hope.

All spray cleaners, except Kaboom Shower cleaner

All TP, except Scott 12 or 18 pak

But it is a descriptive one: you mistake the point trying to be made- none of us are saying these guys were 'good' people. They were not noble leaders.

The fundamental difference, and this might be one that I cannot think of any historical parallel for, is that ANY leader elected or not, wants to increase the power and security of that nation. They do not actively and consciously choose policies that will harm their people and the ability of their nation to function. They may do things to increase their own personal power, but they do not try to literally destroy how their country functions.

The only parallel I can think of is Hugo Chavez. However, he at least thought he was making the country run better by destroying his political enemies and nationalizing everything in sight. Hmmm, maybe not so different after all.

Sure that would be ideal, but will never happen. Taxing billionaires on their wealth is a good option B. I want Bezos to pay through the nose as well as Cuckerberg.

Cue the argument that they will have lawyers and accountants who will make sure they pay nothing. It's hard to avoid knowing their wealth when you can do simple math of how many shares of their company do they own x the price of the share. Then take 1% of that value. Done and done.

And if welfare recipients don't pay the tax, they don't get welfare until they do. When welfare recipients have to queue up at the IRS and peel off some $100 bills (because the underclass typically does not have a checking account), their minds will be focused on fiscal probity.

Yes and no. Over the past 20 years Loudoun has swung from 60-40 Republican to 40-60. It isn't deep deep blue like, say, the District of Columbia. And, what many people miss is that it isn't so much government workers and contractors that drive this - it is a big tech corridor, and they bring tech values to the party.

They are majority Democrat, but within that majority is an EXTREMELY hard core Left. As I like to point out, that government contractor who got fired for having a picture of her flipping off Trump's motorcade was rewarded by the good people of Loudoun by electing her to the County Board of Supervisors. And she is VERY supportive of the School Board. So, yes, they are getting what they voted for, good and hard. But there is a fairly sizable minority who did not.

Pol Pot used the chaos around a succession crisis and the dethronement of the King along with the chaos caused by the Viet Cong camping in Cambodia to start and complete a takeover of the country, and put into effect all the ideas to create an ethnically pure agricultural state for Cambodia to excise all those corrupting influences of the past.

Yeah. I get the reason behind this but the switch from necessary funding to social manipulation was a very, very bad idea that has led to a host of problems and evils.

And its pushed on both sides, both have their moral code and want to use the power of government to punish/encourage behavior. That's not small government, and its always bad for liberty.

My daughter's therapists routinely refer to social/emotional development. And it's a well-defined, discrete thing having to do with the ways babies and toddlers naturally begin to socialize and connect with others around them. Luckily (thank G-d), she has no problems in this area, but many with her condition are severely retarded in this regard, taking years to catch up to "normal," or just never catching up at all.

We're talking about basic developmental stuff - crying, smiling, lifting legs during diaper changes, imitating family members, that sort of thing.

Tyrants must appease their supporters and goons, because when they fail to supply their needs and wants the supporters will overthrow the tyrant in favor of one who will. Smart tyrants bind their supporters' futures to theirs, often by antagonizing their subject population and neighbors to the point of being a personal threat to the ruling clique.

Those who are elected merely have to appease the system, and assure everyone that this system must be continued to avoid chaos and anarchy.
However when the system falls and the ruling clique are shown to be unable to keep it viable, they have to become tyrants to survive as well.

(crap, look at me, I sound like that Scots-Irish philosopher, MacOvielli)

301 If one thinks the wealthy are somehow being put upon, you're not paying attention.

Yeah the last ten years has seen the hugest shift of wealth to a smaller and smaller group of elites in American history. It is shocking.

We've had periods when there was a very small portion of the population had gargantuan percentage of the wealth in the nation (Like when JP Morgan literally had to bail out the US government with his own pocket change several times) but they built that money up with industry, genius, and ruthless business practices.

In this case, we had the wealth and its been taken away from the less wealthy and pushed into the hands of the very few insanely rich and powerful. From Ma and pa stores into the pockets of Jeff Bezos. From local banks into Chase Manhattan.

Again, you're missing the forest for the trees. Just because YOU bucked the system (yay for you), doesn't mean the system didn't SYSTEMATICALLY destroy small businesses, through forcing... yes forcing, people to change their habits away from going into businesses, and turning to online shopping.

Of course. A beer delivery in lieu of a DUI is prudent.

Small business is alive and well here. They never did shut down. They modified for awhile, but that's about it.

Again, it must really suck to live where you live

He will pay off the fall guy for a short stay in prison, and buy the judge to reduce the sentence into 'slap on the wrist, lightly' territory for the fall guy. In about six months SNL will open with everyone in the audience singing Hallelujah while Alex appears to thunderous applause.

Third world country type justice.

But they have a few cuties who run around doing shopping for others and that's nice. It's nicer if they didn't wear masks.

366 On principle, there is *nothing* wrong with getting huge and rich. Hell, I work for a Fortune 500 firm. You know who they are. The CEO worked his way up from jack shit, he's a conservative, and he keeps the company 100% apolitical. We don't donate to anything except anodyne charities and programs to educate young men to go into our industry. Proud to work there. Wouldn't do it if I weren't.

But this is the exception that proves the rule.

Most of the crew that runs in this pack is what Rand was referring to as incumbent capitalists. I've worked for others, and seen it in action, and it's not pretty. The decision makers are Party men, through and through. They leverage their size and connections for rent-seeking manipulation of state subsidies and regulatory structures.

They are, in a word, fascists. And it's not good, and I won't sit there and pretend that this is "free" trade.

367 "Social-emotional learning" was originally a therapeutic concept developed by psychologists treating emotionally stunted children that was smuggled into teaching pedagogy. Every study done about using "social-emotional learning" in schools has shown it to be B.S. (a waste of time).

Funny thing is, teachers claim to be in favor of science, but many their latest pedagogical theories (such as that other scam "differentiated learning") are shown to be ineffective when tested scientifically.

Studies persist in showing that the most traditional teaching methods work best, much to the chagrin of trend-seeking pedagogues. Too bad most parents (and it seems, teachers) are unaware of these studies, which teachers ignore in their headlong rush to follow the latest unproven fads.

Bipartisan legislators demand answers from Fauci on 'cruel' puppy experiments

"Our investigators show that Fauci's NIH division shipped part of a $375,800 grant to a lab in Tunisia to drug beagles and lock their heads in mesh cages filled with hungry sand flies so that the insects could eat them alive," White Coat Waste said.

Michael Vick went to prison for dog fighting. Someone needs to contact PETA and all the female celebrities who pose naked for PETA to get their comments on Fauci torturing beagles for "science".

What "social-emotional learning" IS. And once I saw that, the red flags went up. Given that I was watching those videos on a website established by the educational establishment, I only had one option: Assume The Worst.
