Champagne Socialists -- Always Wrong But Always Comfortable

champagne44.jpg

I didn't know who or what "Grimes" is...I had to look her up, and I am dumber for the effort. Apparently she is a "musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer." But aren't they all? Look up the dumbest celebrity you can think of and the odds are excellent that they will be described not as a sub-literate clown who can memorize lines, but as a writer and producer and (my favorite) activist!

Anyway, this twit's claim to fame (sorry, I didn't listen to any of her music...I'm not that much of a masochist) is that she dated Elon Musk. And that she is an entitled, ignorant, foolish little girl whose powers of observation are clearly limited to an unerring sense of how big her boyfriend's wallet is.

Communism is trendier than Louis Vuitton among clueless Gen Z Americans

Grimes said on Instagram that with paparazzi following her around, “I tried 2 think what I could do that would yield the most onion-ish possible headline and it worked haha.”

That headline was: “Grimes seen reading Karl Marx following split with world’s richest man Elon Musk.”

She clarified, “I am not a communist although there are some very smart ideas in the book.”

Okay genius...tell the class about those smart ideas!

Let's start with the labor theory of value, which is pretty much the dumbest thing ever uttered by Man, and yet has stubbornly persisted in the minds of callow college students and their professors as some sort of brilliant observation of economics.

To reduce it to the point of absurdity (that's easy, since that's where it starts), I am typing this post using one finger of one hand. Obviously that takes more labor and time, so according to Marx this essay is more valuable than one produced with modern technology (voice recognition), or even the modern technique of touch typing.

Yeah...sounds stupid, yet the willing fools (guided by the real players behind the scenes) have raised Marx onto a pedestal, ignoring the spectacular failures of every single government and society that has embraced his economic and social theories. But let us recognize the foppery of these dilettantes and their support of socialism for thee, but not for me! They embrace every aspect of free markets and the amazing wealth that those markets produce. They revel in their riches, yet want poverty and slavery for others.

At least real laborers have some honest claim to their frustration with being at the bottom of the economic pyramid, and when some of them embrace socialism as an alternative it is understandable. Incorrect, and ultimately destructive, but there is an argument to be made from their perspective.

There is a small comfort in this sort of public idiocy displayed by far too many of the wealthy...when they finally get what they want and America becomes the socialist paradise that they desire, they will be among the first to be thrown into the gulags are simply put against the wall.

And that should amuse all of us, because it is exactly the pattern followed by socialism throughout its history, and yet these people have limited their observation of Marx and socialism to the Cliff Notes version spouted by soft left professors and lazy consumption of leftist propaganda.

Luckily for them, a dozen years in the gulag mining coal will disabuse them of the notion that socialism is anything other than a soul-destroying political philosophy designed for one thing...the accumulation of power over the people.

And I'm okay with that!

3 Grimes IS a talented musician and songwriter. Light years better than 99% of the popular twaddle being produced everywhere.

Yes, she was trolling. Reading Das Kapital was a joke.

What she knows about Musk and his hobnobbing with the rest of the Bazillionaires Club would be interesting to know, but she's smart enough to keep her mouth shut. She has a kid with the guy now.

If you're overreacting to Grimes' little stunt, you missed the target.

61 The more efficient use of labor should pay more. But for much of the working class, they had not see a (real money) pay raise for decades. The efficiencies were mostly stolen by those creating money out of thin air.

That is partly the government, but mostly the banks (and the even call hedge funds banks now). Increase in pay was turned into a decrease due to inflation and debt. Families have more/better stuff, but they needed both parents working to stay up with the Jones family.

Going full fiat currency under Nixon may have been the beginning of the end. Greenspan gave us easy money so everything was financed, and now we are zero bound, but still with massive debt ... but BigBank is happy, and BigCorp.

A solution ... maybe a basket of commodities to back up currencies like gold used to do. But if the IMF or BIS decides on what commodities, they'd manipulate that as well. Some sort of Reset probably will happen ... I should run it, can't trust anyone else.

92 Anyway, the most salient historical precedent to what's coming is probably the run-up to the French Revolution. When Louis XIV's infamous "hey, let's all be dandies!" started to come apart the aristocracy were falling over themselves to be socially conscious and for the little guy--or rather, to be seen by their friends as such. This hamhanded hypocrisy coupled with generally low administrative competency across the board wrecked the treasury, made a bad situation a whole lot worse, and opened the door to a rage-fueled but incompetent peasant revolt that killed the nobles, killed its neighbors, and then killed itself.

Oh, and the Marquis de Sade pulled off some truly epic trolling.

160 The appeal of socialism predates Marx--in England, during Cromwell's time, they had the Levelers, during King Louis XIV's childhood, they had the Frondist revolt, etc. More wrote his Utopia during that era. And the anabaptist predecessors of Amish and their related religious brethren like Mennonites, were the farming survivors of a nasty war. Their city anabaptist brethren professing an early form of socialism were put down harshly in the German Peasant Wars by both Catholic and Protestant nobility in Germany in the 1500's. The inspiration for those Anabaptist was a literal interpretation of the Sermon of the Mount. Socialism periodically occurred in smaller societies all throughout history.

Recently, socialism is generally most earnestly professed by those in the upper classes that want to be the new leaders in whatever society will result while the rank and file are people that want free stuff from such a government.

It's somewhat ironic that Smith embraced LTV in that six decades before Smith was born, Edward Coke's Statute of Monopolies, that codified patents as we know them, demonstrated that an idea was more valuable than the labor effecting it.

Much as I want it to be true, I'm not sure that this will happen for many of the wealthy, at least not the more famous ones, or at least not in the near future. They are already part of the aristocracy, and will likely enjoy their wealth and fame as long as they tow the line (or actively pull it as many do). As the lower/middle tiers of travelers are consumed I suppose the mob fires will eventually reach the upper echelons, but by then we may be in a stasis. The whole wokeism thing is the current weapon able to seek and destroy anybody, but maybe it will be abandoned or reduced once control is achieved and those aggrieved groups are no longer needed as cudgels. Already "public health" is being employed in its place.

Posted by: Notorious BFD at October 17, 2021 12:35 PM (Xrfse)
-------------------

We had a neighbor - an ardent, right-on lefty - who when he moved in let the front yard grass grow to about eight inches high. Then he set out - in jacket and long pants, in 80 degree weather - to mow the lawn with a reel-type mower (climate change, doncha know?).

He began RIGHT in front of God and everybody, struggled mightily, and gave up after mowing about a six foot length.

Then he hired a Mexican gardener who came in with his gasoline-power mower. Climate change be damned.

181 Commies? And here, trailing the edge of the Book Thread, the excerpt from Mickey Spillanes's 'One Lonely Night':

"I killed more people tonight than I have fingers on my hand. I shot them in cold blood and enjoyed every minute of it. I pumped slugs in the nastiest bunch of bastards you ever saw and here I am calmer than I’ve ever been, and happy too. They were Communists, Lee. They were red sons of bitches who should have died long ago…"

184 Think about it, something that "has never been tried" and so consequently *never worked*, is the *true axis* of politics that have been tried, and reformed and worked through.

Thus, it's supposed to be Hitler's opposition to textbook Marxism that puts Hitler, the leader of a group that changed Germany from top to bottom, in the "same side" as American conservatives and traditionalists.

All right and left really describe is adherence to a political philosophy that no revolutionist could implement as a "try".

192 We exhibit here at AoS a lot of males that do not understand female nature(thats why a few commenters here will NEVER get laid or find a mate). Women being the weaker sex are inherently "collectivist". When the men left the cave to go kill a wooly mammoth or whatever dangerous game they needed for food back in the day, the women congregated together for safety. Collectivism. Couple that with the fact women are interested in people, men are interested in stuff, this is why women are more "socially" in tune and calibrated than males. Women lean towards the collective where males lean more towards the individual. Its not a slight towards women its just the way the sexes are. This is why some women find socialism appealing.

195 I've no illusions about Neil Young and his political views. I like some of his tunes. My theory is whatever part of his brain allows him to write all those tunes, the musical types in general ... well ... other faculties or skillsets in the brain are atrophied, or were never there. I think his heart is in the right place on a lot of things. Can't say that about a lot of lefty types, even some of his bandmates. What was it called? Crosby, Pills, Hash, and Weed, something like that.

196 >>Much as I want it to be true, I'm not sure that this will happen for many of the wealthy, at least not the more famous ones, or at least not in the near future. They are already part of the aristocracy, and will likely enjoy their wealth and fame as long as they tow the line (or actively pull it as many do).

That sounds about right. However, as overall society degrades they'll notice so many of the tiny conveniences and niceties they've taken for granted have "unexpectedly," mysteriously vanished. Why can I no longer hop in the local Walgreens to pick up a few items? Why do my Amazon orders keep dissappearing despite showing as delivered? Where have all those cute mom n pop shops I used to love closed, been boarded up while McDonalds and Dollar stores popup in their place? Why is my avacado toast now $30? Why was my flight to Cabo cancelled three times, and my elective surgery rescheduled postponed indefinitely due to staffing issues?

207 The Nazis commented on the inherent feministic aspects in their rise to power. Women were a huge part of the propaganda, as they are in any program, it was absolutely crucial.

The fault with collectivism is the loss of the individual, in the sense that one is nothing, unless and until they become part of the collective. "Everything within the State, Nothing without the State" as Mussolini described it.

This is why the left has tribalized everyone here in this country, to factionalize everyone. You have an assigned role to play, but ONLY if you stay in your lane. It is wicked as hell.

Once they control everything, then they can discard the pretense of caring about any of the groups responsible for siezing power, I suppose.

This is why the American system was so so robust. Individual rights. Smallest minority in the world, is the individual.

221 Right after the 60s, there were a bunch of "singer songwriters" that were all the rage. James Taylor, Jim Croce, John Denver and quite a few others. Neil Young was (sorta) in that category.

Those guys sold a LOT of acoustic guitars. I sort of liked some of his tunes from that standpoint. At the time, everybody wanted to play, to score with chicks. I thought having a James Taylor album would help with that. ProTip: It Doesn't.

Women are naturally more socially-oriented because for most of human history a woman's life was dominated by procreation. Pregnancy, delivery, care and feeding of the newborn and of the new mom, all depended absolutely critically on others. And again, for most of human history, that cycle would be repeated over and over again. Social ostracism = death.

Marxist-themed revolutions are a realworld entity that can be compared.
