First-World Problems...

London Boycott.jpg

Imagine living in a parliamentary (sort-of) democracy that has a rich and gloried history of expanding freedom and liberty for its citizens. And in living memory those freedoms were threatened by a global axis of totalitarian regimes hellbent on controlling the world and plunging it into the darkness of tyranny.

But a few countries came to your aid and joined the fight against this evil...and you won!

Fast forward a few generations and you have swapped sides. You are now supportive of exactly the kind of vicious and terrible political philosophy that you fought valiantly for six long years. You reward genocidal dictators with commerce and political cover while attacking the lone outpost of freedom and self determination in the Middle East.

So what is the "First-World Problem?"

Apparently rich, free, entitled England has no memory...

It's not the same authoritarianism; it's worse. People have their heads in the same about the horrors that await in Western Europe in another 20 years or so.

More and more people are figuring out, belatedly, that they'd probably be better off speaking German. Half of the western nations are doomed now as a direct result of internal ideological and policy sabotage fomented by the Soviets.

17 Nuts! Late to a thread once again, I'd like to comment on the thread below. El gato malo has an interesting essay on sub stack about caveman capitalism. One theme is that the bottom up natural organization of capitalism is so seamless and works so well that it seems like magic to most people and so they'll destroy something they don't understand. Afterwards, of course, they won't understand that it's them who are destroying it and so it becomes a positive feedback loop and eventually blows up.

Most of his essays are pretty good. That's why Twitter had to ban him.

Replace "Capitalism" with Free Market, and you've got a deal. Remember Capitalism is a Marxist term to begin with, and whatever we got today, it ain't a free market nor capitalism.

You're right though. The average person in the west has had it so good for so long, they think all this is the default and have no idea how any of it came about, or is maintained. They are about to find out, good and hard. But, then it's too late to do anything about it.

Thomas Sowell said something like "Leftism is replacing what works, with what sounds good." And I think that's pretty good shorthand for the phenomenon.

34 Here's what a lot of Westerners cannot understand.

If Israel (Jews, really) are bad then boycotting them is good. Even if the belief that Israel is bad demonstrably, rationally, or objectively can be seen as false, the Left, Marxists, Islamists, and other racist fascist persons do not look at the issue in any rational way. The Nazi's antisemitism was irrational yet millions were and remain persuaded it was good.

Hundreds of woke Amazon and Google employees reportedly signed a letter opposing their respective companies' contracts to provide the Israeli military and government agencies with cloud services.

The contract between the Big Tech giants and Israel, Project Nimbus, is a lucrative one, but it appears that numerous Google and Amazon employees see Israel as anything but the Promised Land. The "internally" and anonymously signed letter from "more than" 300 Amazon and "more than" 90 Google employees was published in The Guardian. The letter pushed a leftist narrative, condemning not only Israel, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and police as well. The letter called support of all these entities "a disturbing pattern of militarization."

The problem with fighting an irrational enemy is that you can't reason with them.

You can show them facts, theories, histories, and data, and they will ignore it and follow their feelings.

No amount of reason can change their positions, because they did not reason themselves into them.

The only thing that works is an emotional appeal, and when it comes to us, the only thing in that vein we're any good at is humor. Memes. Little tiny bite-sized, acid-laced data bits that poke holes in popular narratives and shred the pretensions of the woke.

When Churchill led Britain, London didn't have a Muslim mayor. That's a clue why Britain is a lot different now.

Whole villages in Pakistan moved to England. A similar demo shift occurred on the Continent.

Whenever Christianity is the minority, it is heavily persecuted. Most other faiths view it as a mortal threat, and Secularists more so than most.

Why?

Because to a Secularist, the State is the mightiest thing in the universe, the benevolent helping hand and dispenser of cosmic justice.

To a Christian, God is above the state, and all men are bound by a higher law than its. The idea that anything is above the bureaucrats is abhorrent to them.

That isn't by accident, that was a carefully planned and executed strategy. The reason the left is so dogmatic is because they know how fickle people can be, they demand one hundred percent adherence. With that said, it is also probable there is no coming back once people have had 20 or 30 years of leftist psychobabble drilled into them. Posted by: Common Tater at October 17, 2021 02:16 PM (dTqaU)

The thing that works best goes back to what I mentioned above - humor. Mark Twain had Alinsky's 5th decades before that plagiarist hack put pen to paper. To paraphrase: Laughter is humanity's most effective weapon. Ideas are nearly immortal and can get pushed back and forth by inches over centuries, but laughter can blow them to atoms in a second.

If you can shred their narratives with humor, and get them to question the people who led them to believe such absurdities, they will deprogram themselves.

103 And maybe you know this already, but a car battery can measure 12.x volts all day long, that doesn't mean it isn't defective.

Yes, it’s not like the old days where a dying battery would mean a few more cranks to start, giving you a warning. By the time it takes a few more cranks to start, the car’s probably dead.

So checking the voltage after driving is one test, but not a sufficient test. Another test is, checking the voltage twelve or twenty-four hours later. If one of the cells is dead enough the voltage might read 10.x (there are six 2-volt cells in most car batteries, so five of them—yes, math—means 10 or so volts; they’re not exact).

Ultimately, though, if your electronics are wonky in ways that might remotely indicate they’re not getting sufficient current, you’ll want to do a full test, which a mechanic, some auto parts stores, and sometimes even a friend with the right equipment, can do. Because if the battery dies completely while you’re driving, you’re pretty much SOL. Your alternator will not be able to keep up, and will also die.

Radicalizing is the wrong word to describe it.

Christianity needs to remember itself, stop following the false lights of "changing with the times" and the gospel of prosperity, and remember that there is an eternal war on for the souls of men.

This is not radicalizing, but abandoning the failed ideas of past radicals and returning to the truth. The truth is eternal. It is not radical, it is not new (despite being the newest thing in human thought), it is timeless and resounds across the ages.

106 The people saying this sort of thing in England are the same sort of people as those saying it in the USA. After all the talk about liberty, how can representatives of the *American* people in your government support antisemitism? Free speech, right?

But you get the history wrong. At the time, Britain ran Palestine, and in an attempt to appease the Nazi-supporting Arabs led by Hajj Amin al Husseini, Britain throttled Jewish immigration and *blocked* the Jews' escape routes from Germany. That resulted in Hitler killing them instead. Britain kept Jews in concentration camps for several years after the war. (Look up the story of Exodus 1947.) Appeasing Nazis is nothing new. Some Brits supported the Jews. Some didn't. Just like in the USA.

The Left portrays itself as all-in for the people and for the rights of the people; all-in on anti-materialism and anti-capitalism. Yet most of the "rights of the people" they advocate are materiel or service rights, not rights that cost individuals and society nothing, like free speech and freedom of religion. The Left is all-in on the right to food, housing, medical care, abortions, education, clean water and air, and more. All of those rights come with costs in our current World. Weird.

115 The two world wars ruptured the gene pool. The smart, the brave, the patriots died in Europe. All that were left at home were women and those of weak body/weak mind. You could see it happening in the years after WWI. Britain almost didn't fight Germany. Almost.

Immediately after WWII Britain was infested by communists/socialists and atheists and they sustained an influx of Muslims from Pakistan which made things even worse.

Now they're unable to defend themselves all the tax money goes to welfare and free health. Industry is taxed, farms are micro controlled. With the joining of the EU Britain lost even more of her soul and sovereignty and I think some of what infected Britain was brought to the US and brought it down to where it's about to tip over. And there won't be any two country solutions for us. Pretty sure no one will allow it to happen for a number of reasons. Makes me mad it happened during my retirement and my slide into old age health problems so I'm unable to do anything to make any changes.

We have been allowing agents of the Chinese military access to the highest levels of our government, universities, and likely military research for years, if not physically present, giving them "accidental" access to top secret information. Or, just, you know, manufacturing the most sensitive components there. None of this is an accident.

Nope. The thing to remember about preference cascades is that they require people to see that they’re not alone. I think it’s entirely likely that the numbers in inner cities are being goosed to block that. Some of those percentages and even raw numbers are insane.
