15 Mornin', folk. I slept solidly for a change.

"High of 60" today? You lucky people with 4 seasons. The so-called "cooler" weather has not arrived yet, and as a long time prisoner of these nasty climes, I'm cynical that it ain't gonna. Far too often "cold" fronts run aground 100 miles north of here; they get the cooler and drier air, the city here continues to swelter. The weather mavens have said it's supposed to show around 6 am. We'll see.

Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat is slated to go to the new vet this morning. He's eating, but less enthusiastically, and not spending any time sitting out with us. Maybe they can find out what's wrong with him. . . .

29 And I doubt it has anything to do with remote learning. Kids are disengaged and literally separated from each other and their teachers.

We aren't just dooming this current crop of kids (mainly blacks and hispanics, btw), but we're establishing the baseline of expectations moving forward. Because once C-level work was accepted as the new A-level work in the 90s, we never returned to the old A-level work.

We're going to be expecting F-level work and handing out A's for it in the next ten years.

This one is a sugar maple. (About 50 years old). On sunny fall days it glows!

Was up in the northwoods last weekend. Colors were lovely. One of the days it was sunny, and the reflection of the trees onto the lake was mesmerizing. That day's sunset actually brought tears to my eyes from the majestic scenery.

I keep looking at the pictures I took and smile !

67 Author Jackie Vance has not been given enough credit for inventing the social credit score.

In his novel Emphyrio he wrote about a system of social control in which each person had a welfare officer monitoring their behavior, and kept a "magnetic" rod on which the officer would increase or decrease the charge depending on offenses or positive behaviors like practicing religious rituals.

If your rod got too "charged" you were sent away for reform.

But the super credit (presuming the Personnel drones even bothered to consider the points in the statement) belongs to Miss Linda, who crafted most of it.

97 South Carolina's Covid impact on hospital occupancy rates continue to crater.
Almost thirty straight days of reduced numbers, pretty consistent with this most recent report from yesterday.

The only real leveling out seems to be actual bed occupancy is leveling out instead of dropping.

This must be explained by non-covid occupancy beginning to climb back up to the desired occupancy rate for optimal usage and billing.

Did You Know: Capts. Lewis and Clark in their famous 1803-1806 expedition to the pacific coast and back took 35,000 pounds of food and equipment, something like that. Enough to fill maybe 3 tractor trailers. Among the supplies was 50 pounds of green coffee, which loses maybe 15 to 20 percent weight in roasting. Anyhoo, they must not have shared any with the 30 to 50 other people on the expedition. They supposedly still had some in the inventory when camped on the Oregon coast.

Here is a real no-shit line of reasoning that someone presented to me.

First, use the search engine of your choice, and search for 'purple street lights'.
Two things will happen.

1. Articles from many cities around the nation will pop up, noting that they had upgraded to LED street lights several years ago, and now, due to a previously unidentified issue, some of them are failing in a manner that projects a purple light into the road and sidewalk.

2. Fringe articles will appear, warning people that the purple street lights are a secret part of the vaccine process, and that if you have received the vaccine, the injection site will glow under these lights, indicating that you have been vaccinated.

And yes, I have seen the defective lights both here in South Carolina, as well as just down the street from my MiL in Baltimore.

If for some reason she couldn't come back to work right away, I think some of her chores would devolve upon me. It would certainly keep my work from being boring.

Was reading about the MP this morning. He took his job very seriously. Put in a lot of time doing work for his constituents, and was very well regarded by them. Devout Catholic, father of 5, loved dogs (lots of photos of him show him hugging various dogs), was a big proponent of Brexit, strong abortion opponent, strong opponent of same-sex marriage.

199 Are they left wennies or normal in the NHL?

*****

A little of both. On the ice it's still pretty action packed and high energy. Only about a quarter of the players are Americans (with an upper Midwest sort of feel). The rest of the players are Canadians, Russians or Scandis. So as a whole they don't have some of the cultural issues as the NBA or NHL.

Off the ice, the commissioner is a douche. They push a lot of gurl power, LBGTLMNOP, save Gaia, hockey for the homeless muslim pre-teen girls type stuff. The players go along with the shit like using rainbow wrapped sticks during game warm-up to be auctioned off to the fans. Their response to COVID was pretty insane. It has potential to go bad, but it's the only pro sport I enjoy these days.

When we used to Civil War reenacting one woman brought "vegan" bacon with her. She wanted us to cook it up for her and we said no, cook it yourself. She set out to cook it in the big cast skillet on the fire that we had just cooked about 3 pounds of real bacon in. She said it tasted good and we pointed out that she had just cooked it in about 3 cups of bacon fat. She turned white.

We were just informed yesterday that the federal government may be implementing some kind of policy that grants increased credits for auto manufacturers for PHEV vs HEV. This affects me directly as my current job is developing the Underhood packaging for a future HEV vehicle. Which now, with this potential new policy for increased credits, could influence management to change direction on my project yet again to PHEV.

2 years ago, this project was an ICE powertrain. 5 months ago, changed direction to HEV. Now we're all bracing ourselves if they decide to change direction yet again to a PHEV. None of this is being done based on market research as to what the customer wants, but 100% based on reaction to government regulations and fines which go into effect in 2025.

When they tell you that cash is no longer accepted and the notice was prominently posted just play stupid, pocket your cash, tell them to have a nice day and walk away. Circle around and do it again to another cashier. Cheap Saturday morning entertainment.

I wonder about people like this. Clinton isn't the only one - Pelosi, Schumer, the she-Clinton, Biden - none of them seem to have any interior life and they're all older than dirt. Yet none of them seems to be concerned about the approach of the Grim Reaper. Nobody's changing their ways, trying to tidy up things for the approaching end. They continue on as if they think they'll live forever.

I remember when Lee Atwater discovered he had brain cancer at only 40 years old. He gave up politics entirely, became a Catholic, and set about reconciling with people he'd fought when he was politically active. Even Jesse Jackson came to see him when he was dying. That's what a normal person should do, but these reprobates seem completely immune to all thoughts of the next world.

Everyone should just tell the people at the border that they identify as southern border jumping illegal immigrants and, per FJB policy, they are not required to be vaxxed.

If that doesn't work, just state that they're not going to be staying in the country long anyway, so the vax requirement does not apply to them.

OSHA mandates the US Postal Service be vaccinated against COVID-19, fact-checkers report

President Biden issued far-reaching federal vaccine requirements on September 9 that cover federal employees and contractors, as well as private-sector employees and health care workers. While USPS is not one of the agencies subject to the vaccine mandate by Biden's order for federal employees, it does fall under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule as the company has more than 100 employees, Reuters says.

302 Theyre defining themselves by how socially concerned they are.
Such a joke. If they were really "socially concerned" they wouldn't be destroying the value of our currency and helping the government spend the nation into bankruptcy.
What do these idiots think the social effects of that are going to be? Sunshine and lollipops for everyone? We are going to have massive unrest and violence, and as usual the people who suffer the most are going to be the poor. All because these "socially concerned" and "woke" central bankers were so desperate to signal to their friends how very, very virtuous they are.

You must be forced to live that way, you bastard

Yes, I knew that already. My question is regarding the statement on Twitter by "fact-checkers" that this policy is now in place. Last I knew, OSHA had not implemented -- and was not going to implement -- this policy.

This seems like misinformation put out specifically to address the fact that people are noting that FJB exempted post office employees from his mandate. And that the 100+ employee mandate does not exist either.

The wording is "OSHA mandates..." I interpret that to mean that OSHA put out some mandate yesterday. Or, as I said, this is misinformation by social media and no OSHA mandate exists (yet).
