Emerson Poll: Dead Heat in Race for Virginia Governor

Via RedState, which recaps the race since McAuliffe's debate declaration that the state and teachers unions, not parents, should decide what children are taught, a new poll from Emerson shows a 49-48 race.

The latest Emerson College/Nexstar Media poll of the Virginia gubernatorial election shows a tightening in the race, with Democrat Terry McAuliffe slightly leading Republican Glenn Youngkin 49% to 48%. One percent of voters plan to vote for someone else, and 2% are still undecided. In September, an Emerson/Nexstar poll showed McAuliffe with a four-point lead over Youngkin (49% to 45%).

...

Those who live in the urban areas of the state are leaning towards McAuliffe (59% to 36%), while rural areas are breaking towards Youngkin (57% to 42%). The suburbs are slightly leaning towards Youngkin (49% to 48%).

All Youngkin needs to do to become governor now is be exposed as having worn blackface multiple times in college, and/or sexually assaulted a woman.

It was named after the discoverer/founder's muse, a girl named Ginny Stater. She was a great beauty but from the lower classes. Her parents named her the diminutive form of the name, not knowing that it was a common short-form nickname. Stater fled her keep to try to make her way in the world and met the founder on her way to the coast. He was immediately smitten, and talked her into adventuring to the New World with him. When he founded the state, he named it after her. In an effort to be taken seriously in aristocratic circles back in Britain, however, he expanded her name to the classical long form of "Virginia" for the purposes of naming the territory.

Re: requiring transplant recipients to be vaccinated-

Due to the immunosuppressive anti-rejection medications required by transplant recipients, all transplant programs have protocols regarding immunization status, so that the recipient has protection against various infections once they have had the transplant. Afterwards, they are not as able to mount an immune response on their own. This directive may stem from that line of thought.

I think what is NOT known, is the converse. That is, what the effects the mRNA vaccine types may have on the body's immune system vis-a-vis the risk of rejecting a transplanted organ. That question remains to be answered, and may take years to manifest itself.

The beatitudes would indicate that a stoic realization of your state in life is understood by God and is actually a blessing. What is not escapable is the sin of denial of the redemptive saving nature of the spirit. That is mentioned as an unforgivable sin. It has been explained to me that this is because you are blocking the means to save yourself from your other transgressions.

So be stoic in the face of adversity but do not give up hope ever.

Up until the 90s, conservatives did run in MA. True, they mostly lost...but occasionally they won and usually some Rs were in the congressional tally.

178 We've seen this 1000 times before. This happened in 2014 (I think) in the CT governors race. Polls showed a Republican had a chance, the Republican was leading all night long. And then suddenly Hartford found thousands of votes. And the GOP said oh well, shucks we tried and that was that.

Furthermore, if Youngkin wins, he'll probably do a lot to tighten up the election rules, if for no other reason than to see more GOPe victories. I'll take that and build on it.

Some things are too big to not enforce (like ending vote-by-mail, for example), but most new laws or rules will be ignored just like current laws and rules are. 253 238 I don't think our problem is that they can't do anything but that they obviously don't do anything.

Kemp could throw the election officials of Fulton county in jail at this point. He doesn't.

So your solution is to not try anyone new, because they might not work out? Give Youngkin a chance.

I think you mistake me. If I lived in the Old Dominion, I'd vote for Youngkin (Go Red Team!), but if he were to end up governor it's doubtful he'd do anything of impact because WaPo would call him racist if he did. It's the reality of the GOPe. He's being differentiated from the Democrat because of McAuliffe's own mistakes more than anything else.

The second Youngkin, as governor, announced that he was going to clear the voter rolls, WaPo would call him mean names and the donors would call his office telling him to pull back, and he would. Things in VA will be less bad with Youngkin. They probably won't get good.

It's funny. In the leaked Google meeting recording after the 2016 election, one of the employees asked the executive panel about something like this. He pointed out that they have a reputation for being cloistered coastal elites who are totally disconnected from the country at large, and that their footprint seems to support those criticisms.

The HR queen said that this is definitely not true and they have major offices in the Interior, mainly in Boulder, CO and Ann Arbor, MI.

260 If they appoint the right AGs and SoSes. And if those people make it rain pink slips, and the new people go on the attack and get the job done, then yes you are absolutely right. There is a nearly uninterrupted history of none of that happening. Never say never, and this is the kind of race I could see voting in (a local or state race with actual stakes, unlike federal elections), but I would not be hopeful that it makes a lick of difference.

I'm a big believer in the "right man at the right time" school of politics. I think there are usually many people who could and would do the job properly, but never get the chance because the people fail to elect them. So what's different now? Why are the times changing? People viscerally loathe pols telling them that they don't have primary control of their children. They hate seeing millions of illegals crossing the border. They know the economy is crashing, and that their president is a vegetable. The people are moving, not necessarily the pols. I'll take it.

Full vaccination is six weeks after the first Moderna/Pfizer (assuming you get the second dose a month later)

So. First doses were released on December 14, 2020. Which means people to get vaccinated were fully vaccinated on January 25, 2021 (gee who was president then) Next batch was 65 and over in Feb/March - so that's April/May to be fully vaccinated. April/May for 45 and over - so that's June/July to be fully vaccinated. May/June for 16 and over - so July/August to be fully vaccinated.

Then do rolling four to six months for booster and someone not as lazy as I needs to do an overlay on cases with that info.

It doesn't matter to the state of VA who the GOP runs for Gov in November - that person loses. McAuliffe wins by 4 or 5.

But it does matter to the GOP and people who don't support the DNC, if only because the GOP voters in VA need to start hearing the right message from the party as a whole so they can incorporate those arguments at the local level, those involving town mayors, school board members, city council, election board candidates, etc. That is the place to start winning, not the Governor's mansion of a blue state.

But all the GOP candidates everywhere, for any office in VA, all of them need to reflect populist conservative values. Limp wristed establishment types don't help down ballot candidates and they don't inspire good local candidates to run in the next cycle.

Why should this be public knowledge? If your enemies want to know your level of armament, make them work for it to spy on you.

But besides that,t he raw number isn't all that meaningful. What are their yields? What are the form factors? Etc.? I guess I am just puzzled as to why talk about it and why now and what they hope to achieve.

But it is even more puzzling that they bothered with a warrant. Why? Google and the state are deeply in bed with each other. All they had to do was pick up the phone and ask.

Reconciliation can only be used once, and under limited circumstances. If they use it to pass the debt ceiling increase, then they can't use it to pass the $3.5 trillion "infrastructure" bill. The Dems know that there's no way they'll get 60 votes for it, which is why they need reconciliation to pass it. McConnell knows this as well, which is why he has the whole GOP holding firm.

The longer this drags out, the more Dems are likely to get antsy and want to push through some sort of compromise. But any compromise risks the wrath of the progressive wing of the party, who are already threatening to vote against the $1.5 trillion bill if the $3.5 trillion one isn't put up for a vote at the same time.

Basically, McConnell is gambling that the longer this drags out, the more likely that the whole thing collapses.

400 If Schumer accept the short term debt ceiling deal, he has to jump start reconciliation. It's really a Hobsons Choice.

=========

Just an added modicum of context: The $1.5 trillion has already passed the Senate and is languishing in the House because the far left won't pass it without the $3.5 trillion already passed.

407 Because McAuliffe isn;t a big enough scumbag already:

McAuliffe-Linked Law Firm Billed $700 An Hour Fighting Parents Of Special-Needs Children
A law firm linked to longtime Clinton moneyman Terry McAuliffe has been paid millions by a school system for work that frequently consists of fighting parents and includes an effort to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that special education children were systematically abused by educators, according to detailed billing records obtained by The Daily Wire.

The records were released to a special-ed parent under public records laws. But when the law firm, Hunton Andrews Kurth, realized their contents, one of its lawyers began frantically demanding the records back, coming to her house multiple times a day, waiting outside her home, and threatening legal action.

More than 1,300 pages of billing records show Hunton advocating for the interest of the school system as the school system was found responsible for violating environmental regulations. . .

Yeah, but one of the worst things about modern technology, is the ability to micro manage things from DC.

I'd wager that the White House was all over plan to withdraw. I would like to know how deep the National Security Advisor was involved, because we KNOW the State Department was involved, as they were the ones talking to the Taliban.

My assumption is that it would be too unconventional in the minds of many people to come out against masks, so doctors like these err on the side of caution. It might reduce the perceived expertise of your site if you were an anti-mask crank. They must figure it's a fairly harmless bow to convention.

Hence the new plan by Dems to nuke the filibuster for debt ceiling raises only, then vote it up...afterwards they use reconciliation to pass $3.5T in socialist programs...but Manchin is standing in their way right now on easing filibuster rules for debt ceiling...for now.

422 Don't focus on the $3.5 trillion or $1.5. That's a dodge. The bill has not been scored by the CBO or committee, and when it does there are all kinds of games to be played to hide costs and get numbers where people want them.

The bills contents has not materially changed. That includes a huge increase in the corporate tax, a tripling of the overseas corporate tax, a huge change to step up basis in capital gains and other schemes that will completely devastate people and the economy. The whole thing needs to be killed, and that Manchin is focusing on numbers is a diversion.

The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday, Oct. 6, passed an ordinance to require people to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination before entering indoor restaurants, bars, gyms, shopping centers, entertainment venues and personal care establishments.

The council voted 11-2 to pass the mandate, with council members John Lee and Joe Buscaino dissenting. The ordinance now goes to the mayor, who is expected to sign off on it.

Yes, I don't see how McConnell can play this any differently since he's just got the one guy, Joey Chinless Manchin, to stop this train from leaving the station on the filibuster rule. But eventually, another deadline will approach - McConnell will have to keep voting for extensions all the way through until or if he ever takes over as the majority leader.

Pretty sure this is true of any 'close' race in any state now. But I'm absolutely convinced that our State Republican Party actually wants to stay out of the Governors Mansion. Quite frankly I think that's also true of the national party in terms of the Whitehouse and congressional majorities. Life is easy street when you're the minority party, raising mad cash by convincing Sean Hannity's audience that you need $$$ to stop the "liberal agenda." You're on the talk shows, you're holding hearings, talking tough... really having a good time in the minority. All of a sudden you're in the majority and it's like "shit... now we actually have to do the things we promised but don't actually want to do."

Newt Gingrich talked about this in his 2008 book. When they took both houses in 1994, he learned that most of the GOP doesn't actually want to govern.
