The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The epidemiological data are hopelessly confused by the huge number of CCP flu tests done for sometimes ridiculous reasons, the terrible accuracy of the tests themselves (is it CCP flu or is it Memorex?), the use of positive tests as an indicator of disease, the inaccurate reporting of deaths, and the general politicization of the entire issue.

But there is a reasonable assumption that CCP flu will behave pretty much like other viral illnesses and moderate, then disappear into the background of many other seasonal illnesses. Just look at the data from the 1968-1969 Hong Kong Flue epidemic, and farther back to 1957 and 1918-1919 for support of that theory.

Former FDA commissioner said summer spike is likely last COVID-19 wave to hit US

"I think this Delta wave is probably the last major surge of SARS-CoV-2 infection that we have in the U.S., barring something unexpected happening," said Scott Gottlieb, author of Uncontrolled Spread, in a book on the U.S. response to the pandemic.

"It's largely coursed its way through the U.S., and so maybe by Thanksgiving , on the back-end of that, we'll start to see prevalence levels nationally decline in a more uniform scale," Gottlieb said.

So...just like all of the other "pandemics of the past 100+ years. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it is a welcome note of sanity and rational analysis in a world gone mad with fearmongering and power-grabs and the use of the epidemic as a bludgeon against freedom and autonomy from government.

And look at this little tidbit! Again, nothing new, but it is gratifying to see a little data that confounds the smug and arrogant pronouncements from the mediocre thinkers of our political elite. How can high vaccination rates correspond to rising cases (if that is even true)? It must be Trump's fault!

A signal of the pandemic's direction is how it will affect the northeastern states, where cases are expected to rise despite that region being the most heavily vaccinated, Gottlieb added.

"I still think that Delta is going to sweep through the Northeast," he said.

A nice logical commentary based on solid theories. So far...so good!

But then the grift appears.

The difficulty is getting the rest of the world vaccinated , Gottlieb, a member of the Pfizer Inc. board of directors, said.
If rising cases correspond to high vaccination rates, then what exactly is the advantage of worldwide vaccination? Obviously, prioritizing high-risk people makes sense, because the data show that vaccination seems to decrease serious illness and hospitalization. But a world-wide push -- by definition -- will delay those high-risk populations from being vaccinated. And because natural immunity is robust and perhaps much longer lasting than vaccine immunity, allowing the natural progression of a self-limiting disease in low-risk populations is probably the best way to limit Wuhan Lung Rot.

There is a big difference between supporting vaccination, and pushing world-wide vaccination at the expense of exactly those groups who are at vastly elevated risk compared to most people. It is akin to mandating that every car in the world be outfitted with child seats, even though only a small percentage of those cars will ever be used to carry children. So the installation of those seats in cars that actually need them will be delayed, and maybe some children will die. But damn, that omelet was great!

Is it some insidious and 100% infectious syndrome that causes this inexorable pivot to craven grasping grifts in every single politician and government lackey? Do they all go to some secret school where they learn the magic of how to pad their pockets while injuring the institution they are sworn to protect and defend?

Or is it some sleazy self-selection process that attracts only people predisposed to crookedness and dishonor and immorality?

Maybe both?

I am not convinced there is a central plan or grand scheme that answers the "why" question. This thing - the response and the structures around the response, not the disease itself - has become a gigantic infernal machine and it may well have no driver and it's just careening around on its own accord at this point in the absence of anyone throwing the brakes onto it.

If there is a grand plan, the only answer I can come up with is, "at all costs, there mustn't be a control group."

Right. I am not anti-vax. I have many vaccinations. I like not having polio or tetanus or hepatitis or measles or rubella. I am anti-mandate in almost all cases (not just vax) and am increasingly anti-this-particular-vaccine given the evidence of its rapid wear-off, the demonstrated elevated risk of cardiac problems and the potential elevated risk of reproductive issues. I am not a Luddite, it is just that this particular shot strikes me as potentially problematic and the aggressive push around it rings a lot of alarm bells given who's doing it, their level of aggression, the troubling indicators and their generally egregious prior behavior in all venues.

It isn't "if you're opposed to this vaccine and/or the mandate to get it, you're an ignorant savage worshiping crude deities and rejecting logic and science." That's a foolish comparison.

____________

The virologists have been saying that from the start. They said it never made any sense to try and vaccinate everyone. You vaccinate only the high-risk groups, let the others get it and develop natural immunity, and the virus eventually mutates into something much less threatening.

Pushing everyone to get vaccinated actually made things worse than they otherwise would have been.

But the "science lovers" wouldn't listen to the actual scientists. Instead, they listened to bureaucratic hacks like that idiot Fauci.

For 18 months I went to the job site unvaccinated (supposedly "risking my life" for the company); for much of that time period, no vaccine was available. No one around me got sick. I didn't get sick. And now they make me choose between supporting my family and getting a medical treatment I don't want or need?? My productivity is suffering, that much I can say for certain. My big complaint is that they've broken ALL the rules for this "vaccine" to "protect" against a chest cold. It didn't go through the trials that a normal vaccine would perform. There's no control group. It's had more documented adverse affects than any previous vaccine yet not been pulled. They won't permit doctors to treat the illness in the early stages.

I don't KNOW that the vaccine is awful but I know that I won't get it of my own free will.

Actually I am kind of shocked this hasn't been done already. The pols get to posture and tell stories of this one time where someone gave a kid a ride home without a seat and there was an accident and the kid died and how they are so noble for fixing this issue, and they get campaign contributions from automakers who now get to put in a $70 seat contraption and raise the sticker $200 and have a "it's the law" excuse.

85 Anecdote - I met with my Dr. yesterday and we discussed the "vaxx". He is totally pro-vaxx. We had a very civil conversation about my reluctance where I asked a lot of questions. I came away with the following:

When asked about how there wasn't any clinical trials, he changed the subject. that basically told me it was rushed to market.

When talking about clotting issues, he said I shouldn't have to worry about it (due to BP meds). That basically told me there is an issue with clotting.

We discussed some of his other patients getting COVID and he told me a horror story about someone that was in ICU. He ended up to be way older than me.

He told me about another patient about my age in the same condition, but when I asked if that person was vaxxed, he admitted that person was.

I guess he didn't convince me to change my mind.

Exactly, and COVID is only a small feature of the problem, but it's the most visible at this moment.

The problem is epistemic collapse. The total corruption of every institution has caused a crisis in trust of anything people hear, and a consequent void in shared knowledge.

Which, of course, is the idea - if you can successfully annihilate truth as a concept (or at least it's existence in practical reality), then those with power to enforce standards of speech can much more easily replace it with their own vision.

This was always the endpoint of the "perception as reality" concept of politics.

Cunard ships were fast. You booked Cunard if you were in a hurry. White Star ships were nice. You booked White Star if you wanted a second-to-one luxury passage. The Titanic was fast, but used mostly older engine technology. It had massive reciprocating engines with a fast turbine, but the turbine turned only the center screw. That is a faster combination than just reciprocating engines, but not a speed demon configuration.

Its been shown that the Jab mucks up your immune system right after taking it. It is not known whether there are long term effects to your immune system.

It programs your immune system to really go after a disease you do not have, weakening it against all other things your immune system normally fights.

That is where those extra deaths are coming from.

That was the prog play, what for markets to panic, then force Manchin/Sinema or whatever apostate GOP willing to do it to vote to get rid of the filibuster [for just the debt limit, we promise].

Political opinion does not count as an exemption (can't just say gub'mint is evil and I don't trust em)

So I wrote a bit about objecting to using cells from aborted fetuses to test or develop the covid vaccines. Johnson and Johnson's official "oh our vaccine doesn't have any aborted cells in it" explanation made my skin crawl. I don't object to vaccines per se. I just got the Shingrix series this past year, and aside from not trusting supposed HIPPA privacy rules I had mentioned that fact to co-workers. But J and J just joined the list of companies that I'll try to avoid anything they make.

HOWEVER, that was back when we let common sense, proper treatment, and natural immunity handle this kind of thing rather than trying to "end" the virus by outrageously economy- and culture- destroying overreactions. Its not impossible that this will delay natural immunity and cause the problem to last longer.

The problem with that being that the COVID might possibly infect him, and it could even infect him and make him sick once, and it could even infect him and make him REALLY sick once. But the odds are against it.

While each time you get shot, re-shot, boosted, and re-boosted you're running that risk.

311 because the data show that vaccination seems to decrease serious illness and hospitalization

The shot only does that. It doesn't keep you from getting the Wuhan Flu, it keeps you from getting seriously ill from it. That's why its not actually a "vaccine" because an actual vaccine teaches your body to fight off an virus, protecting you from ever catching it.

The problem is, this shot only protects you from ONE variant of the virus, while making you significantly more vulnerable to any variants. Which is why you're seeing large numbers of hospitalized people who have gotten the shot.

At the time, Joffe was advising President Obama on security matters and positioning himself for a top cybersecurity post in an anticipated Clinton administration. "I was tentatively offered the top [cybersecurity] job by the Democrats when it looked like they'd win," he revealed in a November 2016 email obtained by prosecutors.

Meanwhile, the Georgia Tech researchers were vying for a $17 million Pentagon contract to research cybersecurity, which they landed in November 2016, federal documents show.

Government funding in hand, they continued mining nonpublic data on Trump after he took office in 2017 -- as Sussmann, Sullivan and other former Clinton campaign officials renewed their effort to connect Trump to Alfa Bank. This time, they enlisted former FBI analyst-turned-Democratic-operative Dan Jones to re-engage the FBI, while Sussmann attempted to get the CIA interested in the Internet data.

Except it doesn't decrease serious illness or hospitalization when you define "vaccinated" as "last shot in the series +2 weeks", and look at complete data from places that are very public with it like the UK or Israel.

It's clear as day that the shots drastically increase symptomatic cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.

Guys we are in "make these people dig the hole before they're shot and then shove them in it" territory here; the powers that be KNOW what is going on, and they're persisting anyways while censoring everything.

358 Worse. It's more like mandating an air bag that is defective and may go off at a random moment while you're driving causing you to lose control of the car.

Or, its like mandating an airbag that makes you actually more likely to crash, and needs to be replaced every six months.

360 To be perfectly accurate, yes, but to be perfectly accurate, normal vaccines aren't 100% effective and foolproof, either.

IIRC no vaccine with more then 20 deaths caused was allowed on the market, well, before now.

363 so since this a medical/ zombies thread, is there anyone here who has gotten good treatment for thyroid issues? Where they do thorough testing and dont just say "here take this levothyroxin" which from our research is not the best and may be the worst answer in many cases.

364 The problem people don't realize is that they're Dr. might belong to a group that dictates what treatments he's allowed to offer.

There are very few completely independent physicians theses days. Costs are too high to go it alone.

So they have a group protocol for this or that disease and the range of treatments that they offer. And that range is also dictated by other certifying groups that certify the health care facility and the Drs credentials/license.

They have software now that the Dr is filling out while he's supposed to be discussing your health and this software takes his input of your current health, past problems etc. and comes up with a range of things to to. And some stuff he won't even offer unless you ask. They are already rationing care because some tests and procedures just don't pay them to do them and they don't offer them unless the patient makes a point of asking for it. Sometimes you have to demand it and you have to have the symptoms for doing it too.

It's all about the money. Hospitals try to load on as many charges that they can so as to up the bill. This is why they don't list the costs of anything cause they adjust it on the fly.

365 I haven't heard of any mild cases of smallpox.

While true, irrelevant. Vaccines are designed to keep you from getting sick at all, but sometimes, rarely, they don't succeed and people get the stuff they are vaccinated against.

373 This is silliness. The fact that the vaccinated can still become sick isn't significant, and essentially a red herring. The vaccinations aren't perfect, but do make it more difficult for the pandemic to spread - and the vaccinated that do become infected have significantly less severe symptoms.

It is an interesting study..

What jumps out at me most is masks were mandatory.. they are eff'n useless!

OK. So infections.. yes.. but serious illnesses - no.

Among 172 infected persons, four (2%) were hospitalized for COVID-19, including three (8%) of 39 unvaccinated patients, and one (1%) of 129 fully vaccinated patients (p = 0.04). One (3%) of the unvaccinated hospitalized patients required endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation and died in the hospital (Table 1)

376 "Splatter" - um, probably nonsense. Show the data where the "vaccines" changed the trajectory of transmission.

(narrator: this is not a trick challenge, but the nature of the subject makes it inherently difficult to document effects, as finding a suitable "control group" is nearly impossible - you'd have to compare Israel to some otherwise comparable place, including geography and latitude and age profile, which had a drastically different approach to administering the vaccines)

If anything the Israeli and UK data to date suggest some mitigation of severity, but there's no basis to conclude that transmission is effected.

Logic, facts, reasoning. At one time it's what brought man out of the muck into prosperous modern life.

377 Oh - and recall the FDA was actually the first institution in the US (in the world? outside Sweden?) to revert to normal responsible behavior (in part). Advisory panel voted overwhelmingly against mandating "booster", 3 top officials quit over the WH/others bigfooting that reco to go ahead with booster push.

The sort of thing that should have been happening in April or May 2020, at CDC and FDA and HHS and other places, over almost the entire nature of Trump's response (there, does that make it easier for clueless Trump-allergic people to deal rationally with it?) if the people in those institutions were professionally competent and responsible.

379 I am retired from the federal government, and I can assure you there is no school to teach you how to grift. If there were I would be rich. Rather, the problem is one common to all bureaucracies: Management selects people to advance who remind them of themselves. Thus when a few "people predisposed to crookedness and dishonor and immorality" get into higher positions, they select others to work with them and perpetuate the problem.

Posted by: mongo at October 07, 2021 12:23 PM (+qx8U)

380 Is it some insidious and 100% infectious syndrome that causes this inexorable pivot to craven grasping grifts in every single politician and government lackey? Do they all go to some secret school where they learn the magic of how to pad their pockets while injuring the institution they are sworn to protect and defend?
--
human nature is fallen.

Or is it some sleazy self-selection process that attracts only people predisposed to crookedness and dishonor and immorality?
---
some humans are worse than others and are attracted to occupations that provide them with a position to maximize grift

Seriously, if it were not for the moderating effects of religion, the world would be well, an endless pagan death cult. Oops. Oopsies.

===
do make it more difficult for the pandemic to spread.

That is a statement of faith not science. Vaccinated that do become infected have significantly less severe symptoms.
How do you know? more significant than they would have had that if they did not get vaccinated? There's no test for that. You are not comparing person in state one vs same person in state two. But your rationale suggests you are. You aren't.

There's a lot of faith and not much science in there.

I would rather have questions without answers than answers than can't be questioned.

Posted by: -some guy smarter than me at October 07, 2021 12:31 PM (PQYtz)

382 Obviously, prioritizing high-risk people makes sense, because the data show that vaccination seems to decrease serious illness and hospitalization.

I disagree that "vaccinating" high-risk people makes sense, given the fact that data shows that the "vaccines" destroy people's immune systems going forward.

What makes more logical sense is to have a treatment protocol in place for the high-risk people and treat it early when they start showing signs and test positive.

If you instead give high-risk people "vaccines", they may not have a "serious illness" of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 now, but then have to worry for the rest of their lives about their immune systems. That is *not* a good trade off when we know there are plenty of successful treatments available for SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 and recovery from infection provides long-lasting natural immunity.
